Veterans Figure in Last Minute Draft Games
There is some late intrigue involving two veteran pass rushers.
The New Orleans Times Picayune states that several teams, including the Cowboys and Eagles, have inquired about DE Darren Howard. The Saints are listening, but it is clear this is a buyers' market. Philadelphia has apparently offered the 31st overall pick for Howard. Dallas has offered to swap the 11th and 16th picks in exchange for Howard. In points terms, Dallas is trying to acqure Howard for a high third rounder.
New Orleans is balking, but I am certain they would welcome a move up. Their top draft target is Georgia S/LB Thomas Davis but the Chiefs are also apparently enamored with Davis.
ESPN reported last night that the Cowboys are trying to horn in on a trade that would send Tampa Bay DE Simeon Rice to San Diego for the 28th pick. It is unclear what Dallas would offer Tampa Bay to trump the Chargers offer, which one source gave a 70 percent chance of success.
Stay tuned.

i know rice is good, but how old is he? injuries? inconsistencies at all? just fill me in about him.
and rafael,
one thing i’d like to see you write before the draft, is if parcells ever picked a guy, that he though was great, (while risking passing on another good player) and it turned out the guy he passed on was a stud while his pick was a bust or near bust? has there ever been any known circumstnaces like this? if not, then at least we know we’ll get some good players.

Simeon Rice is highly productive. He’s also 31 years old, with 10 years on his treads. Hard to say how much longer he’ll be a top-flight end.

Rice missed one game in 9 years. Has three years left on his contract and will make 6 mill this year. Consistant on the pass rush, requires double team too

Rice is a Sackmaster……..does not get enough attention for how good he is. Rarely hurt, probably the best over the last 9 years.

Rice is one of the guys that Brian Cox mentioned in my discussion with him about the best defensive player right now. Wonder where he came up with that idea?
Cox said it was between him and Abraham on the D side.
