Around SBN: Yu Darvish Diagnosed With Mariners Fever

All Hands On Deck

Stephen Jones solved one of Bill Parcells early problems by reaching agreements with first round picks Demarcus Ware and Marcus Spears early Saturday evening. Both will be available for practice tomorrow. The Cowboys have now signed all the team's picks.

GOOD, they got them signed! Also, La being on PUP is not only a message from Tuna to the rest of the team, but also a chance to quickly evaluate Peterman. I hate BP’s mind games but I do understand them.

i know its only 1 day but ive read alot about reggie love looking real good, anyone thats there what is your thought on him, after 2 practices?

by mike on Jul 31, 2005 11:03 AM CDT reply actions

reggie love, maybe practice squad, will not make the team..

by Derrick on Jul 31, 2005 11:25 AM CDT reply actions

I don’t see Love making it THIS YEAR. Not enough bulk on his frame. Maybe they send him to Europe next spring and then he makes the team. A longshot but a good project nonetheless.

i figured hes not gonna make it but ive heard alot of good stuff about him, i just wanted an unbias opinion about him from someone that might have been there.

what is wrong with LA. is he hurt, or something that bp is doing to put a message across to everyone. PLEASE INPUT!!!

by Darrell M on Jul 31, 2005 1:05 PM CDT reply actions

Darrell M,
It’s a message from BP to the rest of the team (i.e. get serious about your job or you won’t have one, it won’t matter to me who you are; pro-bowler or street player) and to comply with league rules to prevent heat injuries. He’ll be back soon.

another tightend goes down during practice last yesterday, Sean Ryan broke his foot and is on his way back to Dallas for surgery to have a pin put in it. We are down to three tightends already, with campbell also sidelined.

Gentlemen, this is only day two of many days. Each and every team will have injuries. Having said that, keep the faith. BP and JJ are two determine dudes. Campbell will be back in 5-15 days and Ryan may or may not have made the team. LA simply sat out as reasons stated by Spag: Early message to team and extra look at LOL. Look around the league and you will see each and very team having the some problems as the Cowboys. I am convinced BP will pull things together. Oh yeah, Spears better get his but down to the required weight suggested by BP.

One more point:

I tip my hat to Stepen Jones. Got things done and we still have a little more to play with when other teams begin to release other players. Keep your eyes open and you will be impressed the magic BP can work between now and then.

Are yall ready for some football????

dallas is going to sign gomaz. another tight end that is also a deep snapper. if he is a good deep snapper; i bet jeff will be out of a job in dallas, because of his salary in ’05 and ’06. they are trying to unload him to save money. plus they get another T.E.

LA looked fat even by LA standards. They assinged a coach to run with him and do situps with a medicine ball. He ran slow and walked back to the starting place even slower. He is in horrible shape. I do not know what he has been doing since May, but it must invloved more eating then it did moving.

The first few days of practice the starting offense ran the ball right down the throats of the starting 3-4 defense. They averaged 10+ yards a carry. I know its early, but and two of the rookies were not even there, but the defense is going to have to be a lot more physical if they are going to play 3-4 verse power running teams.

One of the fun drills to watch is the one on one pass rush drills. A couple of O-line men line up and the center shotguns the ball to a coach playing QB. Once the “QB” gets the ball he does not move. One defensive lineman rushes the passer and the O-linemen assigned to him blocks him. They keep at it until the defender gets to the QB or one of them on on the ground.

Groude did real well in these drills. He put most of linemen facing him on the ground. Ferguson might not get many sacks this year, but he is really strong. He pushed back the O-lineman matched up with him. Many teams will need two guys to keep him from pushing in the pocket. The rookies Thomas Johnson, Chris Van Hoy and Jay Ratliff spent a good amount of time on the ground.

Another drill is the 7 on 7, but the offense is scouted by defensive players on a rotational basis. Some defenders put on a orange cap over thier helmet identifying that they are playing wide out on this play. Again a coach plays QB. One thing that was clear was that most of Dallas’ defneders are not likely to push for double duty as a wideout. They drop a lot of passes. Henery, Justin Beriault and Keith Davis stood out in the drill I watched. Roy was hamming it up and having fun.

Another drill I watched the defensive backs back peddled as if covering wide out runing a specific pattern such as a curl and then the coach playing QB would thow the ball in a place that they had a chance at a ‘pick’ and they would try to catch it. The ‘QB’ would throw a bullet, often low or in some position that would require an adjustment and good hands. Most of the passes were batted down, but a few were caught. Roy Williams has good hands and caught two or three of them.

HOW IS JJ COMMING ALONG

by KJB1 on Aug 2, 2005 1:28 PM CDT reply actions

JJ has such quick feet. He busted a number of long runs in scrimage, but then so did the walk on rookie. They ran the full scrimage on the far field so you could not see the interior line blocking very well. Its hard to tell how much of it is because the running game is great and how much is because the defense is making mistakes as they are learning the 3-4.
