He limped off the field…doesn’t look real serious
by sharkz on Aug 27, 2005 7:30 PM CDT reply actions

by EricR on Aug 27, 2005 7:32 PM CDT reply actions

by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 7:34 PM CDT reply actions

by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 7:35 PM CDT reply actions

by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 7:42 PM CDT reply actions
We had to punt, they run kick 20 yards, but get caught holding again…..
by sharkz on Aug 27, 2005 7:43 PM CDT reply actions

by mike on Aug 27, 2005 7:47 PM CDT reply actions

by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 7:49 PM CDT reply actions

NEWMAN’s confidence better be soaring!! Great PIC on ANDRE JOHNSON, no less!!
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 7:55 PM CDT reply actions
i hate to say this folks, but we look terrible tonight. recievers are still running wide open! and we cant stop the run. on offense, we look terrible everywhere. and F. adams looks terrible.
by don on Aug 27, 2005 7:56 PM CDT reply actions
its ok, get it out of your system now ill leave it alone till we play s.d. if we suck then im gonna be pissed
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 7:56 PM CDT reply actions
the broadcast goes in and out a lil bit but its streaning so…
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 7:58 PM CDT reply actions
“Get it out of out of our system??!!” we can’t just turn it on and off; if we suck tonight and next week, it’s gonna be a long year….
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 7:59 PM CDT reply actions
you know what i mean, by getting it out of your system, the false starts the holdings
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:00 PM CDT reply actions
have we thrown a damn ball more then 20 yd this preseason???
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:01 PM CDT reply actions
i get the feeling that LA and flo couldn’t care less about preseason
by theogt on Aug 27, 2005 8:01 PM CDT reply actions
I’ve actually seen Bledsoe look around at 2nd options… Payton making lousy play calls….
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:02 PM CDT reply actions
i’m giving the offense a pass, they just don’t seem to be trying to stretch the defense like they would in the regular season, but our base D look bad right now .. i don’t mind blitzing, but living with it, we will have to die with it too
by EricR on Aug 27, 2005 8:02 PM CDT reply actions
why play sooooooo conservative in pre-season? esp. when you don’t know how your passing game is?
by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 8:02 PM CDT reply actions
agreed cosby at least take a couple shots downfield
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:03 PM CDT reply actions
Newman breaks it up, but a penalty, offsides on dallas…. ahhhh!!
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:05 PM CDT reply actions
Houston has it right, throws it DEEP, incomplete, but they’re trying….
hope we spread it around when we get it… unless bill’s trying to not “show much”. but i don’t agree with that if he is. we gotta see what we can do on offense. so far, looks like not much…
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:08 PM CDT reply actions
Only prob is listening to the homers on the streaming radio.
by AlanTdot on Aug 27, 2005 8:09 PM CDT reply actions
WARE on a power move!! Glover in on it, too!!
Think we’ll have another year like when our defense was awesome, but our offense sputtered all year?? Focus will be offense next year in the draft- stud WR and maybe a QB?? LIneman of course, maybe steal another Allen…
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:10 PM CDT reply actions
mike, no gain…but nfl.com is recording it as a sack
by theogt on Aug 27, 2005 8:11 PM CDT reply actions
It took us this long to get it going in Seatle. Let’s put a drive together and get a TD!
by Big Jim on Aug 27, 2005 8:11 PM CDT reply actions
defense not impressive, but not blitzing like last week either
by EricR on Aug 27, 2005 8:11 PM CDT reply actions
Eric ofcourse….Romo is a stud…….85 TD in college(albiet smaller school) but he is a winner…..
by sharkz on Aug 27, 2005 8:11 PM CDT reply actions
Bledsoe to glenn!!! That’s more like it, kinda high though…
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:12 PM CDT reply actions
I’m praying we go get Reggie Bush and make him a WR next draft.
by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 8:12 PM CDT reply actions
Julius- nice run. we’ve established the pass, we can run now… time out, dallas.
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:14 PM CDT reply actions
Cowboys moving ball now,JJ nice run…on their 24 and timeout
by sharkz on Aug 27, 2005 8:15 PM CDT reply actions
nice to hear some cheers for the cowboys. go juice!
by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 8:15 PM CDT reply actions
anyone know how long we’re keeping starters in tonight?
by theogt on Aug 27, 2005 8:15 PM CDT reply actions
??? they just said rivera is out and noll is in, i think
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:16 PM CDT reply actions
JUKIUS JONES!!! (Get it?) okay, sounds stupid when you actually say it- never mind….
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:16 PM CDT reply actions
and of course they showed 5 plays of the drive and went back to damn chiefs game….i swear im gonna move to dallas
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:19 PM CDT reply actions
Witten rocks. Wonder if we’re gonna take this long to “warm up” during the regualar season?
Bledsoe, 5 or 6 straight completions this drive….
JULIUS JONES!!!!!!!
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:19 PM CDT reply actions
theyll replay the dallas game tomorrow at 6 pm if anyone is interested
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:20 PM CDT reply actions
i tell you what…that julius jones might just be something.. ;)
by theogt on Aug 27, 2005 8:20 PM CDT reply actions
Jones was a track star in school?? makes sense, he’s sure got the speed, out ran eveybody….
THINK we got a kicker, too…
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:22 PM CDT reply actions
i heard the crowd start yelling when he took the handoff i knew he was going in…lol

what? horse collar? more like bs. excuses…
by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 8:22 PM CDT reply actions
nice they just showed it, and of course switched the game away from the cowboys
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:23 PM CDT reply actions
HOuston just killing themselves with penalties… GO DEFENSE!!!! WANNA see another BIG HIT!!!
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:23 PM CDT reply actions
naw he did actually i just saw it, but yah i heard that lame excuse
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:24 PM CDT reply actions
NICE call by houston- wasn;t expecting a run here…
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:24 PM CDT reply actions
yah he kinda grabbed the collar and let go, he was reaching big time and jj was running away from him so he either let go because of the rule or he slipped out of his hand
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:25 PM CDT reply actions
AG and secondary looking great…shuting them down
by sharkz on Aug 27, 2005 8:26 PM CDT reply actions
between TD and 15 yard penalty…take the penalty.
by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 8:26 PM CDT reply actions
wish ferguson was playing wanna see what its like to have him and spears in the mix as well. did anyone answer if spears is playing tonight???
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:26 PM CDT reply actions
that arron glen sure knows what he’s doin’.
Would Mcquarters have been a better fit though? Didn’t he kill on punt returns
DAT with the INT!!!!! WOW!!!!!
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:27 PM CDT reply actions
I think that’s a pretty lame rule though.
by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 8:28 PM CDT reply actions
this defense creates turnovers like last years def never did, that outta make parcells happy
by nate on Aug 27, 2005 8:28 PM CDT reply actions
rw mcquarters is a good return guy but has nothing on ag as far as coverage goes. he takes ALOT of chances
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:29 PM CDT reply actions
DALLAS D!!! Hit by Williams, ball caught by DAT!!!!
Bledsoe to Crtayton!!!
FANs there are feel’n it!!! 36 yard pick up!!
time out!! SHOWING SOME AGGRESIVE PLAY!!!!
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:29 PM CDT reply actions
these texans homers are giving bledsoe alot of props on here
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:29 PM CDT reply actions
Looks like Crayton is the third reciever. Maybe a second in a year or two.
by Paul Young on Aug 27, 2005 8:31 PM CDT reply actions
exactly this defense is gonna be fine maybe after week 3 if the offense can score 20maybe 24 a game or so we will be fine i thinking, or hoping
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:32 PM CDT reply actions
cortez missed badly from prtty damn close, why didnt we spike it and let cortez set up????
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:33 PM CDT reply actions
DAMN CORTEZ MISS!!! too bad for him….
did n’t like that screen call at all!!!!
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:33 PM CDT reply actions
I don’t know by week three but the D’s future does look bright. Plus Spears and Furgeson will be back.
by Paul Young on Aug 27, 2005 8:33 PM CDT reply actions
well at least it showed we can deff move the ball. piss break
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:33 PM CDT reply actions
They were expecting a pass in the endzone!!! but with a screwn, no way you’re gonna punch it in, they drop on ya!! PLUS, you don’t stop the clock that way!!! hit a guy in the endzone or THROW IT AWAY!!!
Pretty basic stuff there!!!!
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:35 PM CDT reply actions
The Cowboys have been practicing getting the field goal unit on quickly in case of 4th down w/ no time outs in the final seconds of a game.
Maybe that’s what they were doing.
by Big Jim on Aug 27, 2005 8:35 PM CDT reply actions
Are they resting keyshawn? He’s been lost the whole preseason
by Paul Young on Aug 27, 2005 8:36 PM CDT reply actions
Never mind didn’t know it was 4th down.
If you’re getting the Broncos/Colts on CBS, they’re about to have their halftime report – i.e. Cowboy’s highlights.
by Big Jim on Aug 27, 2005 8:37 PM CDT reply actions
Hope cortez makes up for that- I’m pulling for him, but he’s gotta make those…
again, HORRIBLE CALL!!! screen wasn’t gonna stop the clock…
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:37 PM CDT reply actions
o ok my bad then i saw bledsoe trying to get everyone ready, im only seeing it for a few seconds at a time.
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:38 PM CDT reply actions
golf highlights on cbs…I’ve been watching espn news and haven’t seen anything yet.
by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 8:41 PM CDT reply actions
Cowboys winning the yardage battle by 26 yards at halftime……
by sharkz on Aug 27, 2005 8:44 PM CDT reply actions
Bledsoe 11/15 for 113
Jones 10 for 50 and a TD
not bad
by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 8:46 PM CDT reply actions
if bledsoe can sustain this kinda play, and the defense doesn’t crumble we could easily go 10-6.
by theogt on Aug 27, 2005 8:47 PM CDT reply actions
damn bledsoe needs to look for more than one freakn WR!!!! Throws itr away after lookn at just ONE GUY!!!!
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:50 PM CDT reply actions
run play on 3rd and 20???? yeah, that’s gonna work….
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:52 PM CDT reply actions
Anyone else tired of the Dolphis and bucs? they need to show more of the boys game
by Lou on Aug 27, 2005 8:53 PM CDT reply actions
i wish i could be tired of dolphins bucs…i don’t have nfl network
by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 8:53 PM CDT reply actions
It seems they’ve been running on 3rd and long all preseason. What’s up with that? Field position Bill?
by Don S. on Aug 27, 2005 8:54 PM CDT reply actions
yeah, in the pre-season you really want to play not-to-lose. gotta get those wins. also, what does that say to the team? we don’t trust you to get a first down so much, that we won’t even risk it in the preseason.
by Cosby Sweater on Aug 27, 2005 8:56 PM CDT reply actions
petitte looked pretty good….definitely starter material.
by theogt on Aug 27, 2005 8:56 PM CDT reply actions
I hope we get to see Quincy Morgan the rest of the half. He says hes gunna show up, lets see it
by Lou on Aug 27, 2005 8:56 PM CDT reply actions
did anybody else see the houston LB grab J. Jones’ collar when he ran in for the TD??? Thought that was illegal.
GO GLOVER!!!
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:57 PM CDT reply actions
theogt
ty good to hear, sounds like texans are driving good now :(
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:57 PM CDT reply actions
rich
he let go right away, dont know if thats why they didnt call it
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:58 PM CDT reply actions
nfl network showing no love for the cowboys almost at all.
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 8:59 PM CDT reply actions
Glover and Ware and Williams, Henry and Newman playing well- damn D looks good. and we ain’t even seen CANTY OR SPEARS… BIG SMILE…
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 8:59 PM CDT reply actions
ware might get .5 sack… I’m glad he’s had some plays tonight. I didn’t want to have to right last week off as a fluke.
by theogt on Aug 27, 2005 9:00 PM CDT reply actions
Roy Williams destroys reciiever over the middle…..BAM!!!!!
by sharkz on Aug 27, 2005 9:00 PM CDT reply actions
hopefully when the chiefs go to halftime we will see the cowboys for more then 20 seconds
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 9:01 PM CDT reply actions
ware chased him to glover, no?
ROY!!! Nice hit.
OUR D is gonna make a lot of plays this year- I"M TALKING BIG HITS AND TAKEAWAYS!!! (if this game is any indication.)
more houston penalties… man, thought Capers had them more disciplined than this…
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 9:03 PM CDT reply actions
Yeah ill be watching that, anyone know how Rivera looked tonight?
by Lou on Aug 27, 2005 9:03 PM CDT reply actions
Ware had his Jersey,Singleton hit him from behind while Glover twisted his legs…..you make the call…..
by sharkz on Aug 27, 2005 9:03 PM CDT reply actions
Didn’t think Rivera played this evening. Wasn’t he held out again?
by Don S. on Aug 27, 2005 9:04 PM CDT reply actions
it might be smarter for nfl network to show all the games in smaller boxes at the same time so we can watch our team
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 9:05 PM CDT reply actions
naw i thought they said rivera played a lil in the first quarter
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 9:06 PM CDT reply actions
and we still have the first team offense in except jj
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 9:06 PM CDT reply actions
if the D can hold ‘em here, i’ll be impressed. but they can’t do it all, offense has to do it’s part. they disappeared again…
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 9:09 PM CDT reply actions
nice calls by houston. i likew the endzone passes back to back… wonder if they run on 3rd and long….
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 9:10 PM CDT reply actions
oh, that was 3rd down. guess they don’t…
7-3 dallas.
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 9:11 PM CDT reply actions
Rich, this has frustrated me about parcells for the past couple years…but I’m pretty sure he’s not gonna change anytime soon.
by theogt on Aug 27, 2005 9:11 PM CDT reply actions
ehhh thats ok 3 pts for the texans thus far, i can deal with that
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 9:11 PM CDT reply actions
Newman broke up and pass in the endzone on that drive. having a GREAT game!! Think Henry has made him better?
Can’t wait to see these guys up against TO and the eagles!!!
wonder if TO has done his last Dallas-Dis in Texas stadium?
YEAH, ROMO!!!
by rich on Aug 27, 2005 9:13 PM CDT reply actions
mike, i haven’t heard anything about ware…did see him limp a little though. But he continued playing.
by theogt on Aug 27, 2005 9:14 PM CDT reply actions
on punt coverage i think it was he hurt his leg but he was back in, i thought it was live coverage when i saw it
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 9:15 PM CDT reply actions
Crayton is working himself into a starting position in a couple years.
by theogt on Aug 27, 2005 9:17 PM CDT reply actions
this damn ridiculous of the nfl network, they show us very very little. and show us planty of miami
by mike on Aug 27, 2005 9:17 PM CDT reply actions
A lot of balls to Crayton. where is Morgan? Are they throwing to him? Is he getting open?

by nate on Aug 27, 2005 9:23 PM CDT reply actions
we need a big play guy on offense. plain and simple. Defense can’t do it every time… but THAT SACK WAS DAMN NICE- SCOTT!!!
D LOOK’N GREAT!!!

SLOAN THOMAS!!! A STEAL A WR FOR HOUSTON. Hook ’em!!

Big pluses of the night:
- Pettiti’s play has been absolutely solid
- Secondary has been pretty darn good.
- Ware continues to look like a star
- JJ looking good.
- Bledsoe isn’t making mistakes..but he isn’t taking any risks…
by theogt on Aug 27, 2005 9:25 PM CDT reply actions

Parcells is grateful for the botched special teams plays—it will give him something to obsess about and yell at people about. The next draft pick is definitely an OLB to bookend Ware. Romo and Crayton look good, and have the potential to get better. Morgan was open at times, but rarely thrown to. Even the Houston TV announcers liked Romo’s play and Morgan’s catch. Roy Williams showed up. The O line blocked well. Bickerstaff played himself off the team by missing blocks. The team played tough, Parcells-style football. They are rounding into form.

if all we need next year is another OLB and a QB……..we could trade picks and go after Leinhart……..or one of the kids from Texas A&M or Texas………or maybe get Phillip Rivers from SD or Matt Schuab from Atlanta……….those two kids are NFL QBs.
What is up with Henson. Did not even play. Is he in Parcells Doghouse? I wonder if Bill will let Drew rest in the next game and split time with Henson and Romo. It is disappointing that he is looking worse this year than last. Is it the reworking of his throwing motion? The kid was awesome and Michigan? Did a few years in pinstripes for Steinbrenner ruin him? Boys of summer……….I mean the Boys of Steriods………..baseball is for guys that can’t play football anyway!

535 Responses, this has to be a record… I missed the whole thing, just in the moment I arrived, the game was over… Good game, as I’ve been reading for our OLine (they just gave 1 sack), for our QB’s (no mistakes), for Crayton, for our RB’s and for the whole Defense, especially that secondary. I haven’t read much from Polite, looked good? Good enough to keep a FB? Or 4 TE’s is the answer?

You mean the Reggie McNeal who had a lower completion percentage than Vince Young and had only 2 more passing touchdowns with 100 more pass attempts? The Reggie McNeal who was sacked almost three times for every time Young was sacked? Vince Young is handicapped by the fact that his offfensive coordinator has sa kindergartener’s grasp of football strategy.

by Cash on Aug 28, 2005 5:40 AM CDT reply actions
Cash,
Rivera didn’t play. Walter started at RG. But you are right that Noll had a much better game this time.
As for Vince Young, he’s still got the mechanics of a high school player. His delivery makes Drew Henson’s look good and his accuracy, especially on short passees, is nothing to shout about. He’s indecisive and his delivery is very slow. He’ll be a star in the NFL, but it won’t be at QB, unless a team has A LOT of patience. He should kick his OC because that guy will cost him a ton of money in the long run because he didn’t develop the kid. Come to think of it, Young could file a class action suit with Chris Simms, who’s failing his audition in Tampa.
by Rafael Vela on Aug 28, 2005 9:44 AM CDT reply actions
Cash & Rafael,
Yes, that was Walter who was replaced by Noll.
It might also be noteworthy that Gurode was in at center (replacing Johnson) when our offense picked up.
It looked to me like Petitti had an outstanding game. Haven’t reviewed the tape yet, though. What was impressive to me was that Petitti was playing through injuries. Tucker also seemed to handle himself well, in the second half.

I hear you, Mr. Bill.
Still have to watch the second half tape myself. I can say this:
— Dallas was pretty basic on both offense and defense;
— The Texans threw a lot of funky blitzes at them and the
offense DID improve on picking them up as the game
went on, first half at least;
for a team with a battered QB, the Texans do a lot of stupid
things, like running David Carr on numerous naked bootlegs.
That organization seems to have a deathwish. Carr right now
is following the same career path as Manning — Archie Manning.

Arcie Manning could have been a great QB if he had gone to any other place except at NO. I saw him play late in his career at Minn and he was still pretty good- imagine if he had gone to a good franchise. Carr- what is it with Houston? Sooner or later he is going to get badly injured- and at the least all these hits he is taking now will shorten his career.

mike,
Henson’s base salaries, from 2005 through 2011, are guaranteed to the tune of $3.27 million. If he gets traded, that all accelerates immediately against this year’s cap. So, if we traded him to Chicago, we would be paying his salary to play for them for the next 7 years. If he gets cut, I believe (although I am not certain), only $305,000 of that would count this year, with the remainder hitting us next year.
The salaries are minimums, for the years of service, but there are seven years of them. All but a portion of the 2011 season are guaranteed.
Henson can void his contract after the 2007 season. If he does, though, the guaranteed salaries for those last 4 years disappear.
It would appear that Henson’s contract was set up so that no rash decisions would be made, before he had a chance to prove himself. A fortunate choice for Henson, and probably for the Cowboys.
I got this information from ‘AdamJT13’, a poster on several Cowboys forums. Anyone who knows Adam treats his comments as Gospel, when they concern contracts, the salary cap, and the CBA.
Some of this was confirmed by Mickey Spagnola in a recent article.

The guy just changed mechanics, a QB project usually takes time, and now he has to work with new mechanics, we do know that the guy has a good arm, he just needs to work on his recon skills and mechanics. I’d at least give him another year, if he’s just like this year, well, I’ll take the point that he won’t be capable of playing QB in the NFL.

by Lou on Aug 28, 2005 7:08 PM CDT reply actions
This was a decent test. The Texans expect to be a borderline playoff team this year, and spent a busy offseason themselves, upgrading speed and replacing older veterans with younger players. Johnson is widely viewed as a stud receiver, Davis is a two-time 1000 yard running back, and Carr is expected to become a great one, as he enters his 4th year. Buchanon and Robinson should be one of the better sets of corners in the league. The O line his been upgraded after all of the sacks it has allowed in past years. The defense is a 3-4 that has been a staple there since the team started. Dom Capers is a disciplined coach who fields disciplined teams.
So, what happened? Bledsoe outplayed Carr. The Dallas CBs outplayed the Houston CBs. Johnson was not a big factor. Dallas had the better running attack, with the Dallas starter and FA RB outplaying the Texanâ€â"¢s starter and 3rd round pick. The Dallas 3-4 looked more intimidating than Houstonâ€â"¢s. Dallasâ€â"¢s O line outplayed Houstonâ€â"¢s. Houston, with a QB completing 70% and no team turnovers in the preseason before the game, turned the ball over 3 times, all forced by the Dallas D, including two ints.
First, the positive. The refs signaled early that they would call a tight gameâ€â€Dallas adjusted before Houston did. Crowder made a nice catch. Romo looked like a solid #2â€â€far better than Banks, who is about league average as a #2, and who was once Dallasâ€â"¢s #2. Thompson solidified a roster spot. Petitti looked good enough, and the O line played well, even missing Rivera. Even without Ferguson, the Dallas D line was too much for Houston to handle very consistently, especially Gloverâ€â"¢s quickness, which disrupted much of what they were trying to do. I donâ€â"¢t know how many times Houston had 3rd and over 10 last night, but it seemed like a lot.
Now, the negative. Bickerstaff whiffed on blocks that killed 3rd down opportunities. James still did not seem to impact the game. Morgan was inconsistent again. The special teams sucked, although I suspect people Parcells judges to be borderline at making the team, at best, were largely manning them, trying to impress and given an opportunity to do so. They did not.
Over all, this was impressive. Wins and losses in preseason mean very little, but progress means a lot. This looks like a completely different team from the one seen against AZ two weeks ago.

Rafael,
I was sure I saw Rivera in the game to start. Anyway, as far as Vince Young goes, I certainly know he can’t pass worth a lick, but I’m not so sure he has to.

cowboy burt,
Good stuff!
While I am worried about the special-teams performance, the worst breakdowns came in the second half, when, I am sure, there were people out there who won’t be on this team when the regular season starts.

Cash,
What you saw was Al Johnson starting the game at center. He wears #52 and when tugged closely to the body can be mistaken for #62. A couple of times, I thought it looked like #68.

Cash,
Name one predominantly running QB who has won consistently in the NFL?
Vince Young has mega-talent, but unless aliens invade his body and turn
him into Johnny Unitas Jr. this year, his future will probably be as a WR.
Just like Matt Jones.

Raf,
I thought we were talking about Vine Young as college QB. Nowhere have I stated Vince Young will be a successful starting QB in the NFL. I was only refering to this college season. And the list of successful running QBs in college is a lengthy one.
But to name a couple of running QB’s that have had success in the NFL look no further than Randal Cunningham and Mike Vick. The both win/have won due in large part to their running skills.

Cash:
A big part of Vick winning some last year has more to do with the lack of competition in the NFC, when they played the AFC we saw some reality and expect some more reality doses this year with a healthier Carolina and a better rounded Minnesota (as in better Defensively and without Moss).

Chandus, with Vick Atlanta makes the playoffs, without him they don’t. Last year wasn’t his first trip to the playoffs.

Of course, Doug Johnson isn’t another RB, they just had 2 RB’s that year.

Cash,
Pardon me, but I thought you were referring to Young’s pro prospects. My bad.
As for Cunningham and Vick, yes, they did some winning. But Cunningham never took his team deep in the playoffs. Vick wreaks havoc with his legs, but you notice that when he’s faced really good defenses (and the NFC has been woefully short on them of late) he gets stuffed. Tampa Bay owns him. And so did the Eagles last year. One of the amazing parts of the KC Joyner book is that he mentions Vick as one of the most overrated players in the game. Because his runs skills are so good he hasn’t put the work in on his passing game. And his passing skills are medioce. He’s not accurate and he throws everything 200 miles an hour, no matter what the route.
It’s up to him whether he becomes the next Steve Young. He’s got the skills, but until he become a passer who can run, he’s not a top tier QB.

Raf,
Cunningham took the Vikings to the NFC champinoship game, but I know you are refering to his Eagles days when he didn’t have moss to heave the ball to.
KC Joyner criticisez Vick because he wrote a book on the passing game. Whatever Vicks skill set is, it gets results. I don’t care what it takes to get the ball into the endzone as long as it gets there. If the defense is right and you get more turnovers than you give up the QB only needs to make 2-3 good plays a game to win. Are there 3 better runners on a team than Vick, Dunn, and Duckett?
