Meaningless Stat Lines of the Day
This has been a recurring subject in the threads, so I'd like to put it in new perspective. We've seen the Antonio Bryant vs. Quincy Morgan debate argued to death, but when he was traded, Antonio was the third receiver on the team. Could he even beat out the third guy on the Cowboys today? A comparison after one week:
I'll keep an eye on this one as the year progresses. I'm hopeful Crayton's play will put this argument to bed.

They could’ve had both Antonio Bryant and Patrick Crayton!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He cut off routes when he felt like it. He refused to go into games. He ran sloppy routes. Those more than negate his flashes of high-end ability. I don’t understand the fuss – never have.
Bryant would be behind Peerless Price on this squad. He was just destined not to be a Cowboy – he was a bad draft pick.

If a player has a bad attitude (and you can not get him to see the light) show his a** to the curb and move on!
Did the Vikes miss Moss yesterday against TB, or was it there former Off. Coordinator that went to Miami and helped the Fins hang 34 pts on the ponies?
NYG had to returns for TD’s yesterday against the cards. The Boys are having a difficult time stopping the returns. Is it special teams coach Bruce Dehaven thats the problem or are the players not playing (I don’t think its the players)? We’ll see if now that the roster is stabilized if the special teams coverage units start to come together.

You forgot one item behind Crayton’s name: “Does not throw jersey in head coach’s face.” Getting the guy off the team was the right thing to do.

If the Cowboys win the Super Bowl while Bryant makes the Pro Bowl, who got the better end of the deal?
Bryant can help himself to all the stats and awards he wants. Parcells judged him to not be helpful to the cause, thus shipping him out. Morgan was simply wishful thinking, hoping to salvage a poor draft choice. We’ve cut our loss and moved on.
If Crayton’s game yesterday forecasts the kind of year he’s going to put up, we’ve got something good goin’ on. Hats off to the receiver coach (who is he, anyway?) for developing Crayton, plus getting excellent play from Johnson and Glenn. Position coaching is vital, especially with so much young talent on this team.
Now if our linebacker coaching can straighten out their recognition and assignments – more than once they looking rushed, confused and out of position at the snap of the ball. Plenty of grist for Parcells to grind their butts with this week in practice.

This is a bad comparison. The fact is Bryant is starting, Morgan got cut period. If Bryant was still here he wouldnt have been cut. Crayton will start next year or get more plays if he keeps this up.

who cares about Quincy or Antonio………fact is they both suck. AB is in a contract year and has decided to show up for week 1.
Which he also did when we had him…….it will only be a matter of time til he quits on the Browns the way he quit on the Cowboys………
All you Antonio fans……why don’t you just go get a Browns jersey and stop rooting for the Boys already. This a team effort, and he was not part of the team or as Bill Parcells said this training camp get on board the TRAIN…….he wants winners not whiners.
I’ll take Crayton, Copper, and Morgan for every Antonio Bryant out there. TO produces so you can decide if you want him or not, Michael Ivrin produced and never had on the field issues………just some off the field stuff………..even Joe Horn with his antics produces………look at the class guys in the league………Jerry Porter, Torry Holt, Marvin Harrison………those guys produce without the antics………Antonio Bryant is ain’t in their league!

Don’t forget we lured Henry away from Cleveland as a free agent. They got nothing in return this year. Would you take Henry for Bryant? Any day. So maybe Cleveland got the better end of the Morgan for Bryant trade, but we scored big time when we got Henry.

Still doesn’t change the fact that we got squat in return for Bryant. Also had we not traded Bryant we would’ve saved the 2mil we spent on Price.

I am wondering why people are so caught up with Antonio Bryant. I think I have the reason.
First, people have been comparing AB to Michael Irvin the moment he became a cowboy. Physically, this is a good comparison. Personally, there may be some other reasons for it being a good comparison. But, the problem is the AB isn’t and will never be Michael Irvin. So what is happening to these DC fans that keep obsessing over this is that they really don’t miss AB, they miss Michael Irvin.
So for all you fans who miss AB it is time to heal the wound of Michael Irvin’s premature retirement. Repeat after me, “Michael, you were the best. I really miss your playmaking ability. I wish you could have played many more years. I am sorry that I tried to replace you with a lesser person named Antonio Bryant. He was and never will be you. I miss you Michael. God bless you and now I let you go for good. I will begin to enjoy the talent that God has so bountifully blessed the Cowboys with now and stop obsessing over Mr. Bryant.”
Alright, very well. You are on the path to healing. Good job. Now go home and speak kind words to your wife and kids. All is well.

Just the guy I wanted to see posting… What do you think of Keyshawn? He’s a pretty good TE, right? The TE would still start over Bryant. Glenn made some though catches too. And Crayton was the team leader on yards and receptions. Bryant would be 4th team here.
And he starts in Cleveland because Northcut hasn’t delivered what his contract’s worth (2 years ago he signed a contract extension worth like 10 mill) and Braylon Edwards is a rookie. We’re much better at receiver than Cleveland, among many other things.
And BTW, what about Bledsoe? I heard that someone predicted 2 picks in the game…
I told you so…

I’m not sure Bryant will have such a great year, not with Trent Dilfer at QB. And even if he does, he will be a free agent next year and any team can overpay him if they want. So for all the AB fans, there is always the chance Jerry Jones will go off half cocked and sign him.

First of all I’m the main person on here that has been saying Crayton needs to play. KJ looked good, because I said and still say he is a tightend doesn’t mean I don’t think he is good. Bledsoe by the numbers looked good I didn’t see the game. I didn’t say he was going to have two picks. If Bledsoe can keep playing like this we will have a chance at winning every week but SD has a poor passing D. A win is a win and I will take it.

How about that grab off the turf, then just accepts the officials call and goes back to the huddle………thank goodness for the review.
It is about time one of our young guys developed. Jimmy Smith was still eating it up yesterday. If you want to complain about a WR that we LET GO…….the complain about JIMMY SMITH not ANTONIO BRYANT……..Bryant doesn’t even deserve to carry Jimmy Smith’s jock strap!
Jimmy Smith had yet another 2 TD day and 130 yards………go compare that to Antonio Bryant!

What is the difference between KJ ok a young KJ, Moss and TO? KJ use to blow up just like them. There was a thing on espn talking about divas at WR and there was KJ saying how he Moss and TO are the same. I would take Moss over any WR in the game today and if he was a cowboy would and others would say he was the best. The difference is someone doesn’t have to be a cowboy for me to recognize that someone is good or recognize someone is sucks if they are a cowboy.

How come Davis got burned for two TD’S? Didn’t Julius look great juking Foley to pick up the first down, and let’s give DBledsoe his due. He had lots of chargers around him and he didn’t panic, he even ran for some……

AlanTdot:
I’m also happy… It’s only a good discussion, anger usually comes along with insults, and I haven’t read one from my fingers or from AW’s. Cash really suffers of some anger cases…
Moss would be the best receiver in the game if he starts playing every play to his potential, even those were his name isn’t called, saw the OAK-NE game and the only thing that changed with Moss is his uniform, every day I would take a Marvin Harrison or a Hines Ward over that thug.
AW:
I understand your point, perhaps if Moss had landed in the lap of a coach like Parcells early in his career he could have mold him into a perfect teammate under his watch (which is what Key is under Parcells watch), but he didn’t had the luck or lack off, Parcells is not a candy… But T.O. fell on Reid lap, and he’s a well respected coach and he didn’t changed his antics, he can make all the stats in the world this season, but he will be a pain in the ass for his teammates and it will cost to them, just wait for a game in which things don’t fall his way and he’ll bitch, just like he did while in SF and things will start to crumble, and you know what, last year I predicted that things could be heaven for the 1st year, but for the second his colors could start to surface, I was right, and I might be right again.
Again, there’s people that prefer guys that make good stats, I’d take every time a guy that’s a rounded player, because those are the players in which you can rely for every play. That’s why I realized that Bledsoe could do a pretty good job while in here, people looked at the stats and figured that he was an inmobile and unprecise QB, but with a friendly scheme he can function 3 TD’s and a 150 QB rating speak for themselves, and really 3 of those sacks weren’t his fault, one was a corner blitz and Polite responded awfully to it, another was Flozell fault and the other was Petitti’s.
by Chandus on Sep 12, 2005 4:36 PM CDT reply actions
And you know what? Just one sack on Bledsoe’s shoulders is a pretty good number. But he do needs to get himself rid of the ball faster for next game, Washington’s going to blitz 6 and 7 for half the game (or more…). Defensively, Ware is going to eat Brunnel steaks, Ramsey might be out for the game and Campbell is too raw.

My rose colored glasses are becoming more fashionable by the week. I believe that Crayton will be challenging for the starter position with a few more games like yesterday. Given time I think that Bledsoe will make us very happy that Buffalo decided he was expendable. The offensive line will improve and he will get that time. The defense even though less effective than I believed was quite good considering that most people see LT as the best running back in the league. Our pass defense had some mistakes, but the two FA’s earned their money yesterday. Ware will get better in his run defense. All in all a pretty good day for a team in the lower middle of the pack last year. I had a great football weekend. My beloved Cowboys won a great game. The LSU Tigers beat a very good Arizona team. My nephew got his first varsity start as a freshman in high school. He beat the dog out of his opponent on the first two series and then they double teamed him the rest of the game. He plays defensive tackle, but projects to play Linebacker in College. His greatest desire is to play for the Dallas Cowboys. His bloodlines will provide him with a 6’5" body at around 245 lbs. If he can avoid injury and keep his head on straight he should be ready 2012. lol

Guys, guys, guys….
I was HUGE into the Bryant trade debate. Really. I believed in this kid (in spite of the attitude), I was outraged that we hastily GAVE him away, and I never thought Morgan was gonna add up to much.
BUT IT ALL BALANCED OUT- IT ALWAYS DOES FOR GOD’S TEAM!!
Last years draft we traded down and got JULIUS. CRAYTON fell in our laps. This year’s draft went our way with a bunch of good players- we got Ware, Spears, Burnett, AND Canty. BARIAULT might be BATES II. THOMPSON came outta nowhere. Petteti might be a steal. Henry was the BEST corner we coulda gotten. And Bledsoe is evidently the real thing. And on and on….
So we gave Bryant away- given how things worked out- I AIN’T EVER GONNA DISCUSS ANTONIO BRYANT AGAIN, unless we’re playing agianst him. I hope he grows up. I hope he stays healthy. I wish him well. BUT I’M NOVING ON….
We ALL should. The future’s too damn bright in Cowboy Country!

Time for a Special Teams thread? We’ve got serious coverage issues that may make Bill do something big. Like ask Keith Davis to take on his old special teams role again (in addition to FS), or move another starting LB into ST. Unfortunately, that wouldn’t be enough, though. Not only are the gunners not getting there quickly enough, but there are too many gaps and assignment losses in general. Not sure what more they can do. Any thoughts? Pathetic for a head coach who has always said he wants his backups to play ST.
And if Cortez can’t kick into the end zone more consistently, then why is he still here?
Never saw it this bad when Avezzano was around….
Note: If ST is our biggest problem, then we will be playoffs bound! Go Cowboys!
by Remnant on Sep 13, 2005 10:48 AM CDT reply actions
I agree that there are coverage issues. Yet, I was really suprised at how well Dallas covered deep for a few exceptions. I really feel like if Newman plays off and doesn’t get beat long then the Cowboys can contain most recievers, T.O. included. I am not as concerned with the defense as I am the offensive line and special teams. The D gave up 24 to a really good offence and less than a hundred yards to the best RB in the league. Offensively, the penelties need to be curtailed and a better protection for Drew. Special teams…well, somebody has got to start tackling besides the kicker…other than that we are sitting pretty.

Field position nearly killed this team. It was that “Smack in the mouth” that Parcells preached about early in camp that he didn’t know how his team would react. The young, inexperienced, new starters, new system that would take years to learn got it handed to ’em right in the kisser.
Here, we’ll give one of the best offenses last year a short field for half the game…
It was a magnificent performance. Stuff that legends begin with…like “The Catch” in ‘81 foretelling a dominant 15 year run for the 9ers, or “How ’bout them Cowboys” whoopin’ the end of that dynasty in ’92.
This team has a five to ten year run to history. They got some work to do yet, no doubt. And we’ll have to have another QB to take the batton after Bledsoe in a few. But this team has the looks of something really special. Need a few more playmakers and a future at QB.

ESPN is always the first bandwagoners…in fact, I think they make the bandwagons.
OK by me…more coverage.

Speaking of Future QBs … although I am a LOYAL fan, I’m only a CASUAL observer of fine details(although becoming more and more addicted now that I’ve discovered blogs like this) … what is sooooo wrong with Tony Romo?Since last year’s pre season I’ve liked his field ‘presence’. He doesn’t seem to be as nervous as Henson, and … well … I just like him more … any chance we can thread some about his posible prospects if only for the sake of educacting my ignorant self???

Idaho,
You ignorant? For someone “near Coeur D’Alene”, you sure don’t act like an inbreeder. Way to touchy-feely you are, based on your previous post that blasted me unjustly. Are you not from there? Since you do wood floors, did you perhaps follow the building boom to “Hayden Lake Heaven?” Now allow me to educate you.
First: You know nothing about me, so be careful what comes out of your mouth!
Second: Know the rules on this Blog. NO RELIGION, NO POLITICS! Psychology qualifies as both. Granted, I should have asked Freud if he was joking. Looked at in that light, his post was good stuff.
HAVE A NICE DAY!
