How far can the Cowboys go?

Thanks to Mark for getting us looking deep into the 2nd half of the season ...

Clearly the best teams in the NFC are the Seahawks, the Falcons, the Panthers (the players, not their cheerleaders) and yes, even sometimes the Cowboys. Who will make a late charge? What other NFC teams can get into the hunt? Is it possible for the Cowboys to get a home playoff game?

Good luck with it.

Look at the #2 teams by NFC division:

North: Detroit/Minnesota. Neither is good. No playoffs here.
South: Atlanta/TB. Strong, but very tough schedules left and they play each other twice! so 10-6 for one at best. 1 Wildcard.
West: St. Louis. Incomplete team at best. Not a contender.

That leaves the East, with the Cowboys, Giants and Redskins all looking strong. One will win the division, another will get a wildcard.

The lack of depth in the NFC nearly precludes any miraculous turnabouts, so we’re left wondering which of the South and East teams will make the playoffs. My bets? Give me balanced Tampa Bay with their #2 defense (yards), #20 running (yards per carry) and #10 passing (comp). Atlanta is terribly inefficient passing (7th worst comp) and one injury from offensive incompetence.

And give me the Giants and the Cowboys. Giants have an easier schedule, and the Cowboys are the deepest balanced team with the best D.

But remember that someone playoff-caliber team’s QB is going down between now and January. Who will lose that lottery? Let’s hope not us, because Romo may be nice but we’d be lost without Drew.

Defense wins Super Bowls!!!

Of those teams with the injuries piling up I say our Defense is probably as good as any. Seahawks probably have the best Offense but if they don’t have home field they are done.

I say Cowboys meet the Panthers in the NFC Championship game. Can we win it………absolutely! Anything is possible in the NFL Today. Bill Parcells knows this!

by Jon on Nov 17, 2005 2:11 PM CST reply actions

Rem,

I think the Redskins have the easiest sched by FAR!!
Oakland @ DC West Coast tyeam playing in the cold at 10am PT

SD@DC Same as above

St louis?

Arizona?

and then two of the three division games at home.

I think that Match up with the Redskins will be for the East div when we play the Skins.

The Giants are too up and down. And once again I don’t see them with the talent on Defence.

If Bledsoe stays healthy, then we finish the season
11-5 and are in the playoffs.

I think Seattle and Panthers get the top seeds. I think Seattle is a shoe in for a first round bye. Our offence needs to play better if we are going to do anything.

by aw on Nov 17, 2005 2:30 PM CST reply actions

Here is what I see happening.

1. We will beat the LIONS, and the RAMS.
2. We will beat either the Giants, or the Deadskins.
3. We will take 2 out of the 3 following games. Cheifs, Broncos, Panthers.

by lcraft on Nov 17, 2005 2:45 PM CST reply actions

If we do that, we can feasibly take a first round bye

by lcraft on Nov 17, 2005 2:46 PM CST reply actions

aw:

Look at San Diego’s remaining schedule:

  • @ 49ers
  • Giants
  • @ Eagles
  • 49ers
  • @ Titans
  • Colts
  • @ Packers
  • They could easily come out of that 3-4, giving them a 10-6 record. Dallas has:

  • Lions
  • Broncos
  • @ Giants
  • Chiefs
  • @ Skins
  • @ Panthers
  • Rams
  • The only teams here that scare me are the Chiefs, Panthers and Broncos. If Dallas comes out 4-3 they end with 10-6.

My point is that it is too close to give anybody the top seeds and the first-round bye. After all, Dallas is only one game behind these two teams.

I don’t buy into all of the crap that people are saying about how tough the Cowboy’s second half schedule is. #1 we beat the supposed best team in the NFC for 58 1/2 minutes. Had we not been so coservative on offense or our piece o crap kicker hit what was a chip shot Seattle would have the same record we do.

They base the difficulty of the rest of our schedule on who those teams have played thus far. Well outside our divisional rivals, who I do not fear, they haven’t played us yet.

I picked the Cowboys to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl earlier this year. I will continue to stand by that pick.

    You meant Seattle?
I see two hard games for them NY and Colts. NY is not the same team on the road so maybe just one hard game left. maybe GB but that’s a big maybe. I wouldnt be surprise is they go 13-3 but I can see them at 12-4. That is a easy schedule. there is no reason for them to drop more than two games with that schedule.

by aw on Nov 17, 2005 3:01 PM CST reply actions

Seattle seems to have the easiest schedule, and even the Colts may be starting Jim Sorgi against the Seahawks, if the Colts have secured home field advantage throughout. The Seahawks just didn’t look like a Super Bowl team, and I hope they don’t represent the NFC. No one has mentioned the Bears(I refuse to say “Da Bears”), but they’re one of those teams looking capable of causing chaos(and shock). I picked the Cowboys on this board, preseason, to go to Detroit, and I’ll stay with my choice. First, I want to see Detroit beaten convincingly by the Cowboys on Sunday.

At this point…I think Seattle and Carolina are locks. Dallas will get to the playoffs but the question should be if they will make it as a wildcard or a division winner…to me that’s still up in the air. so it goes like this
    North-Bears
    South-Panthers
    West-Seahawks
    East-Dallas Wildcards-Giants,Falcons
Now, to answer the question how far will the cowboys go, I’m sorry, I’m a believer in a sense. I’ve said this alot this season, Dallas can beat anybody and lose to anybody, and when I say anybody I mean anybody. Dallas has the talent to go to and win the superbowl this year, I think it’s all about how they mature and exicute

by emrdog on Nov 17, 2005 3:21 PM CST reply actions

i really believe the boys can easily win the division. the skins have a hard time winning on the road period! and they have survived by the big play. the giants have a tough schedule ahead of them. only teams that we will have a tough time with the rest of the season are panthers and seahawks. the chiefs will be easy hell they dont have their td machine anymore and im sure we are gonna get revenge on the skins. i see the boys 11-5. and any team that is losing by 2 scores with 4 minutes left and are tired on the road comin off of a bye weeek and wins has a real good shot at the superbowl. not many teams can win a game off of 3 plays. most teams that come off of a bye and play on the road lose.
so i predict the boys in the nfc championship game!!! and maybe the superbowl depending on who they play.

by Jarhead on Nov 17, 2005 4:14 PM CST reply actions

The Cowboys had better win their division, because it could well be Seattle, Chicago, 3 teams from the South (Carolina, Tampa Bay, and Atlanta), and the East winner.

I think the Giants will collapse, and Dallas will get in, where they stand a good chance to advance to the Super Bowl. The AFC is superior this year, but anything can happen in one game.

Carolina to me looks like the best team in the NFC. Dallas would be next — the Boys have already beaten the Giants once, and were clearly the better team when they gave away the game in Seattle.

13,13,10,16,14 points we are lucky to win two of those games when our offence didn’t do much. That is not going to get it done. Its one thing for the offence not to score its another when the offence helps the other team to score like they did for philly and seattle. The offence tried its best to give the NY game away. Turnovers are going to happen but when they happen is a killer.

Denver relies on Plummer not to make mistakes- I am thinking that Plummer is like O’Donnel was during Pitts big year in 95- he will go along untill the big game and then serve them up.
But right now he isn’t, so that will be our second toughest game next to Carolina, who right now IS the best team in the NFC. We CAN be if we continue to get better on D and find the running game again. Realistically, I can see us going 5-2 the rest of the way. 11-5 wins the division in my view. We get either the second seed or the third seed depending on how Seattle finishes the season.

    aw,
agree you gotta score points, but defense will keep us alive. with JJ coming back to 100% and crayton coming back, maybe the O will pick it up some.

by Jarhead on Nov 17, 2005 7:51 PM CST reply actions

I wouldn’t put too much expectation on Crayton just yet. After all, it may take a couple of games for him to get the rust knocked off his game. Same could be said for JJ. Remember, he’s that back that needs to get 20+ touches a game to be effective. If TT at RB steps up a notch or two, we could see some real fireworks out of the Trio.

Still, not to sound like a homer, I think the ‘Boys could go to the Big Show if they just gut up and do it. There’s no reason why they can’t as they have shown no quit in their play as evidenced by Monday’s game.

At the very least, they should win the Division with wins over NYG and WAS. As Cash stated, the teams that haven’t played the ’Boys may be in for a surprise if they think they can beat us outright. No team has yet and I doubt there will be one this year. I give the Broncos the best chance to have a winning game against the ’Boys. Other than them, the ’Boys should “run the table” on the rest to finish at 12-4.

hmmm…well…we already played four of our six dvision games (3-1), while the rest of the NFC have faced eachother once at best…a large part of their 2nd half schedule is the east tearing eachother apart…Cowboys and Giants are gonna be real close (oh I hate to say that)…well win in DC…broncos and carolina scare me, (I think well beat the broncos on thanksgiving though), so the Giants and the broncos are the 2 biggest games coming up, theyre HUGE, we win, we win the division, we lose, were probably only a wild card, cuz you have to know the Giants are gonna get upset again, you know they will, but hey, lets make it…thats all we need…we can beat ANY team on any given day…been along time since Ive been this exited…

by NflCowboys on Nov 17, 2005 8:25 PM CST reply actions

my prediction on the broncos game, take it for what you will…
Plummer is finally a “good” quarterback, but hes also finally being saved by his running game, without Bell and Anderson, Plummer is still the same, same old story in Denver, now, the Cowboys run D is damn good, we contain the run like weve done all year, put the game BACK on Plummers shoulders, which is where he loses it, watch those mistakes come back, force a bad game (this is after all, thanksgiving, at home, someone please tell me the last time we lost on thanksgiving at home)…and walk out with a victory, now Im not predicting a blowout at all, but if we shut down the run game, the game is back in Jakes hands, which we know, he chokes and makes bad decisions…which he will…but well see…

If the dallas offense can jell
    including bledsoe making good reads
and holes for the running backs, and
defensive front seven play as consistent as d- backs(i can’t believe i just said that after last season)
then this team has an excellent
shot at going far into the playoffs.

by becker on Nov 17, 2005 9:34 PM CST reply actions

Just for kicks I averaged the three power rankings out there that I know of that try to use mathematical models for rankings, as opposed to just pulling preferences out of their sphincters. (Aikmans, Football Outsiders, and Sagarin ratings.) By averaging the 3 together, this is what comes out for NFC teams:

    Seattle 1.33
    NYG 2.67
    Dallas 3
    Carolina 3.33
    Wash 5.33
    Atl 6.67
    Chi 7.33
    Phila 7.33
    TB 7.67

Interesting, huh. Notice the drop off after #4. If this were true, Atlanta would be the big loser, as they’d miss the playoffs in spite of being better than Chicago, who would win the North. Dallas and Wash both get in as WC. Being the top WC team, Dallas would draw the worst division winner, so they’re likely to win that. But Seattle, with home field advantage, would be hard to beat.

Of course, past performance is no indicator of future returns, so things will change dramatically before we’re through.

by Len on Nov 17, 2005 10:14 PM CST reply actions

We should all feel lucky for the offense we have. It has it’s problems, but not even when the triplets were around did we have the ability to come back late in games. Did the triplets do it? Sure but rarely. At thier best they were never behind and by halftime it was grind it out on the ground to run out the clock. But aside from the 1999 game against Washinton I don’t vividly remember many games where we had a QB that could chuck the ball down field and score as quickly as we can now.

A Parcells offense is only supposed to be servicable. An offense that doesn’t make stupid mistakes and takes advantage of short fields created by the defense. The defense is a work in progress and supposed to be the engine that drives this machine so lets not put too much of the onus on the offense. This team did what it was designed to do Monday night. Who cares if it came late? The thing that matters is that it came and we conquerd. We can beat any team in the league.

Think about the fact that for 3 weeks in a row, Eagles, Giants, and Seattle we shut down the current NFL #1 offense. As long as Henry gets healthy and we keep Drew on his feet for most of the game the sky is the limit.

We’ve been talking about this in the theboys.com forums

    http://forums.theboys.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=230

Like the button in “The Truman Show” – How Will It End?

I think we loose to the Broncos and the Panthers, but get solid wins against the Giants and Skins. I predict we end up at 11-5.

I think the Giants will come one short at 10-6 but have a good chance of being a Wild Card Team.

The Skins will show their true colors for the remainder of the season and end up 8-8 after losing to the McNabbless Eagles to end the season.

The Eagles will go through a rough patch and McNabb will opt for surgery before the season ends. 7-9

So I think we will win the division, and end up in Seattle for the third time this year to face the Seahawks…but I won’t tell you who wins.

Just read every post and here’s my 2 cents on some of the questions:

Bledsoe should have taken the sack (easy one)

Our offense will be our undoing. Just too inconsistent and the defense can’t be expected to hold everyone under 20

We’ll go as far as our Oline will take us. If they suddenly grow a pair, the sky’s the limit.

I still want to know what Carolina has proven yet. They’ve played the easiest schedule in football.

If Bledsoe goes down, all bets are off

I’m wondering why there hasn’t been more talk of Parcells intentionally playing conservatively for a very good reason.

During the regular season, it will win most games. There is no reason to “open it up” and risk big negative plays against an opponent whom you have a distinct advantage over.

However, in big games (and a foreshadowing of the playoffs), isn’t it amazing how the team seems to open it up?

    Coincidence? I think not.

We would grip if we were hung with a new rope. I remember when Aikman was criticized roundly for not being able to throw the deep ball. As a matter of fact JJohnson wanted another QB at one time.

Every quarterback makes mistakes, Bledsoe made 2 in 9 games along with numerous big plays. So hang him with that new rope.

by Jesse on Nov 18, 2005 8:53 AM CST reply actions

I think we will see how good the Colts really are down the back half of their season. Let’s face it beating the Pats in Foxboro ain’t the hardest thing to do just ask SD. They got a good Cincy team this weekend and some tough teams down the stretch.

I agree with an earlier comment that whoever is playing the best and the healthiest come Dec will take the whole show. I also don’t see the AFC as head and shoulders above everybody else. Steelers? Chargers? are they really better than the Cowboys, Panthers and Seahawks.

I think we can beat Seattle and Carolina on the road in the playoffs if we play our best game. One thing about those two teams they are both well coached and well prepared, no walk in the park…….Colts could get to the game and choke……so let’s benefit from that and go ahead and hoist another Lombardi this year!!!

Why not the Cowboys…….the mediots will jump on the Cowboys and Parcells bandwagon this weekend. Giants face a wounded Eagles team with no McNabb………wonder if they can pull one out of a hat!

When I look around the league and say who is going to be good this year, next year and the year after…….you gotta say that is defense and I put the Cowboys at the top of that list. We also have a veteran QB, WRs that been there done that…….and some rookies that won National Championships and played in some pretty big bowl games.

I don’t think this team will be nervous about the playoffs or the Super Bowl despite their youth.

Here is a reason for optimism! We got Julius Jones, MBIII, Tyson Thompson…….none have played their best games yet. We got an O LIne that is cut down on penalties as has the team and we are playing with discipline! If we can improve our run blocking and find a JJ or MB or TT on screens I think this team can score a lot of points. We were in shootouts last year with less, now we got a Defense.

Winning close games and losing close games builds character. No matter how it happened it happened. So we learn from it move on and play better football. Hopefully Drew and company are tired of comebacks and want to get a lead so we can really turn the blitz loose and the rushing attack. Bill Parcells loved to kill teams with a little lead and open up not only the offense but gave the green light to a guy named Lawrence Taylor…….love to see the green light on Ware for the 2nd Half of a playoff game!

    Hey Cowboy Fans,
The question is how far will the Cowboys Go !

Dallas defense has been consistant all year long.Never have they been blown out point wise & only against the Eagles were they pushed around.

The Key to how far they go is again the O-Line play. All our backs are good ! All our receivers & TE are Good ! Our QB is Good ! So all we need is Good, consistant play from our O-Line. If we get this We can definately play with Carolina & we already showed we can play with Seattle ( we gave that one away )

My point , with good solid O-line play we can get to the BOWL. I know this team is really a year away from everyone knowing they are a super bowl contending team, But with the level of competition in the NFC they are in the thick of it NOW !!!

by Jesse New York on Nov 18, 2005 9:47 AM CST reply actions

Where will the Cowboys finish? Somewhere between 6-10 and 13-3. (Insightful, I know) But seriously, Dallas has shown the capacity to play with anyone and the capacity to play down to anyone (San Fran anyone?). Because of this, they are capable of winning out or losing out.

But baring major injuries, at this point, I expect them to be 11-5 by year end. That puts them in position for the #2 playoff seed. Whether they get that depends on the Carolina game. Win it and we are #2, lose it and we are #3.

The Seattle loss will come back to haunt this team for tie-breakers. With the seahawk easy schedule, they should be the #1 seed in the NFC.

Coming into the season, I think most of us would have been pretty happy to be the #2 or #3 seed in the NFC.

by RobH in Upstate NY on Nov 18, 2005 10:03 AM CST reply actions

If the Hawks don’t fade, that loss will cost us. BUT that is if they don’t fade- as they have usually done. Carolina is probably the most complete NFC team as regards to how they are playing this year. Losing Jenkins has hurt their D somewhat, but they still are very good.

by Burmafrd on Nov 18, 2005 10:53 AM CST reply actions

Defense wins championships. The running game gets your there. If Dallas gets there running game going ( which they really haven’t all year ) then they have a real good chance. As it now stands… they can get to the playoffs but will lose early unless they got lucky like last week.

by MikeA on Nov 18, 2005 10:56 AM CST reply actions

    MikeA:

Totally agree Defense wins championships! Next ingredient is a strong running game. I just feel our defense (with the exception of mondays meltdown) has played very well & will continue to improve each week.

As far as our running game is concerned, I go back to the O-Line.

I feel they have not played very good or consistant. If they get better quickly, these backs we have can compete! Also if they can give Drew time to throw, there are plenty of offensive weapons on this team.

That’s what I’m talkin’ about. Let’s talk turkey. Let’s talk about this year.

Rafael, RobH, Jesse, and many others have started to get that itch. It’s ’91 all over again.

Take a stroll back…Aikman, Emmitt, Irvin and that young OL that was HUGE, but unproven. Little Step getting the Al Johnson treatment. Aikman not being mobile. Emmitt a ?. Irvin nothing but a posession receiver. A defense that was FAST! But too many question marks as well.

jesse, how far they go in the playoffs will be determined by their seeding. I don’t think they could beat Atlanta in Atlanta. Atlanta is too much like the Eagles of the past few years. Balanced offense, stout defense.
I don’t think they can go to Carolina and win either.
Teams they will have no trouble beating home or on the road are Seattle, NY, Minnesota and/or Chicago.

By the way, Dallas’ Defense scares me. There was no push up front vs McNabb on Monday. He had plenty of time. Ware was basically ineffective and manhandled most of the game. Fujita should be fined. Burnett is a kid, Bradie played ok, and Nguyen is the guy with his fingers in the dyke plugging all the leaks… he’s just got too much to think about with his motley crew making mistakes. Henry’s groin is a concern. Singleton’s injury shows him to have been a fairly reliable LB. Easily superior to Fujita and Burnett.
Ware was beaten like a dog on Westbrook’s 15 yard scamper into the endzone. That was his play to seal, and he just danced out of the way as easy as you please with his dance partner the RT. Hey, he’s the OLB – last line of defense. A pulling guard or FB sealed the ILB and the path to the endzone was huge.
Atlanta and Carolina run the ball really well.

    PLEASE READ AND COMMENT!!!!

OVER THE PAST 5 DAYS OR SO I HAVE FOUND ENOUGH ARTICLES OVER THE INTERNET THAT T.O.’S NEXT STOP MAY BE IN DALLAS. I SAW IT ONCE AND LET IT GO, I SAW IT AGAIN AND LET IT GO, NOW I SEE IT THIS MORNING ON NFL.COM. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT REALLY HAS A HIGH CHANCE OF HAPPENING??? JERRY JONES HAS ALSO BEEN ASKED THIS MONDAY AND ACTED LIKE IT WOULD BE SOMETHING HE WOULD GO FOR. T.O. IS A GREAT PLAYER BUT ISNT HIM COMIN TO DALLAS A VERY BIG RISK FOR THE TEAM? OR CAN PARCELLS KEEP HIM IN PLACE AS HE HAS KEYSH AND GLENN? IF THIS DOES HAPPEN IF T.O. IS CONTROLLED HE COULD PROVIDE AN EXTRA BOOST FOR A SUPERBOWL RUN, THIS YEAR IF POSSIBLE OR NEXT YEAR. BUT IF NOT HE COULD DAMAGE THE COWBOYS AS HE HAS S.F. AND PHILLY. WHAT DO YALL THINK THE POSSIBILITIES OF THIS HAPPENIN?

I think the Cowboys can go all the way, I hope they look no farther than Detroit. I don’t look any farther than Detroit.

Lee (RE: post 13) At first, I thought Polite or Barber had missed a blitz assignment but they didn’t. According to Bledsoe and other sources, Trotter’s blitz was the hot read, which Bledsoe failed to make and Witten was the hot outlet making him the first option. Taking the sack would have been better than what he did (panic), but only when you know the actual result. If sacked, the question would have been: Why didn’t he hit Witten or dump it off—anything but take the sack? The only good that could have come from that play would have been a completion to Witten.

Figher15—I like your point on post 35.

golden (Richards?)—RE: 50, Because I am completely opposed to it, it will probably happen. Unless there is a complete personality makeover, I can see no good in him becoming a Cowboy. He’s a cancer. Of course, I had similar reservations about Keyshawn but he’s turned out to be perhaps my favorite player. He turned out to be just the Flu.

The d scares you. they give up 20 points, 7 points you can thank the offence for turning it over where they did. If anything should scare you it should be the lack of points the offence puts up. The D is going to be fine its the offence that needs to step up.

Nice pick, the Bears. Urlacher, Briggs—that entire defense is still under the radar. The offense could ultimately be their Achilles heel but you never know…I was an early advocate for them on this blog to do well in or even win the NFC North.

Did anyone else hear Brad Sham and Babe Laufenberg give up on the Cowboys early to midway into the 4th quarter of the Monday night game. Brad Sham, “the Voice of the Dallas Cowboys” for a 27th year. What a sham and what a shame.

He and the Babe should be looking for work!!

Possibly Rafael has a radio voice. I know that would provide better color than the Babe

The re-plays showed Witten open on Bledsoe’s INT, Drew’s just holding on to the ball too long. He also coulda thrown it out of bounds. We have a legitimate chance to win every remaining game. Sunday’s score: Dallas 35, Detroit 10.

As far as To goes…….I didn’t think Bill would go for it, but Jerry did have the “He can live on the Star if he was a Cowboy.” Jerry has had the likes of Irvin, Galloway, and KJ. Joey sat a whole season if I remember correctly from Seattle and they all said he had issues. However, he never really panned out for us. He is rejuvenated under Gruden……and we got old faithful……KJ.

TO is a cancer. But is Parcells, Bledsoe, JJ, LA and others the cure? I hope Jerry gives Bill the last call……..we got a lot of good youth on this team and WRs like Crayton and Copper and Price……that could be the youth movement……not sure we need another 30+ WR from the 96 draft of WRs.

You don’t hear Dan Snyder and the Redskins cuz of Gibbs…….Parcells and Gibbs are really very similar but Bill has taken more risks on a guy. One had riggins and Manley the other Lawrence Taylor.

KJ is in a contract year. If Jerry dissed KJ and paid TO big bucks…..it could hurt the whole team chemistry……including the head coach.

I don’t know about TO. I hope Bill Parcells has the final call. I don’t question TOs ability or his athletic work ethic. However, he is a head case of the highest order. Maybe this is the final straw…….but if it were why wouldnt the iggles just take him back.

You discipline a child to teach him a lesson. You don’t discipline him and then give him up for adoption……I think TO might well play for the Eagles again!

Personally I would rather have another OLB with the potential of Demarcus Ware……..over a loudmouth Wideout! You bookend Ware and we can win a couple Super Bowls with Trent Dilfer and no TO! Henry and Newman are for my money the best duo in football right now and the tackle. We got 3 young backs, and a vet QB along with a probowl TE and others.

On the flip side Burress had issues and Coughlin has settled him into an all pro wideout. He is younger than TO but also less talented.

Not sure but it should be interesting……..I think there will be more than one Suitor for TOs services.

For those that don’t won’t TO……well let’s win a bowl this year then we got no pressure to bring him on anyway!!! Plus do we really want him to be the over the hump guy……can you imagine him and Rosenhaus after a Super Bowl victory…..so far all the guy has is stats and TDs.

I don’t have a problem with T.O. coming over. He’s an a-hole, but a playmaker. I don’t really think he’ll be here long-term, depending on his behavior. I like Keyshawn though and wouldn’t wanna see him leave. If anyone goes when/if T.O. comes, it’ll be TG.

Brad Sham is the worst play-by-play guy I have ever heard. I am stuck out in Central Cali and Internet radio is all I have for the Cowboys, unless its nationally televised. I have had to put up with a couple of games this season in which I could not figure out what was going on the entire game. He is too busy with side conversations and what not and he just flat out stinks. Anybody with me….FIRE BRAD SHAM next.

Personaly I’d rather lose than have TO on the team. He’s nothing to be proud of. To see him act like an ass in a Cowboy’s uniform every time he scored a TD would be heart wrenching. I know Irvin had his karate poses, but acting like a waiter or imitating other people dances that’s just foolish.

    Star, Lee,

Upon replay I am sure it does look like Bledsoe could have made the hot read.

At full speed it looks like a Jailbreak.

Cmon, his mistake was in not taking the sack, not missing the hot read. How many steps was that drop?
What is one of Bledsoe’s glaring weaknesses? pressure up the middle.

9 times out of 8 he doesn’t get that ball to Witten. If he even stretches out and starts the pass, Trotter spreads him from the the LOS to the goal line like an ant and we are watching Tony Romo in his first
    NFL start.

by AlanTdot on Nov 18, 2005 6:23 PM CST reply actions

DanG: I thought Brad Sham and Babe Laufenberg were just being facetious in their comments about phoning Meredith in Hawaii, in the 4th quarter. After listening to announcers on other teams, the Eagles’ guy(Merrill Reese) may be the best I’ve heard so far.
Regarding Bledsoe, coudn’t Payton just yell “mayday” or similar codeword into Bledsoe’s helmet on a jailbreak rush?
(with the understanding that Bledoe would just aim a throw deep into the stands?)
For example, when Trent Cole beat Tucker to the inside, Bledsoe might have been able to unload and prevent that embarrassing ankle tackle.
What was interesting to me was that Bledsoe seemed to be having fun(seemed to be joking with Romo), even though trailing in the 2nd half.

by Lee on Nov 18, 2005 7:06 PM CST reply actions

    Well, folks…

We’re a day and a half away from finding out whether the ‘Boys have recouped their intensity. I’m optimistic that they have. They wouldn’t want to suffer a major embarassment at the hands of the Lions.

Lee, your comment about Bledsoe “having fun” with Romo is indicative of what I’ve seen for most of the year. Bledsoe doesn’t let get stressed over the game. Instead, he just goes out on the field and makes critical plays, although sometimes they are bad. However, you have to admit, for a “washed up, has been”, he’s been the infusion that the ’Boys needed to establish winning ways.

NYG Hater, your point about Carolina is very valid. In fact, it would appear that every team in the NFC ranked higher than the ‘Boys could also be afflicted with the same disease … easy schedule. The ’Boys, without a doubt have had probably the toughest schedule of any team in the league. They’ve done well with it overall and are in a position to go all the way as a result of mental and physical toughness. Our rooks have gotten 2 years of experience in just half a season (perhaps this may be a little over the top, but you have to admit that it certainly contributed to their progress). Just imagine what they are going to be like next season. Wow…

I don’t object to players making truck loads of money, but he’s not a good person. He is a play maker but i think KJ and TG are also play makers. I haven’t seen TO bending akwardly to cath a pass or run over a defender. And we still have Patrick Crayton. For the amount of money TO would demand we could have a kick ass lineman. THINK!

If TO came to the Cowboys, I would have a hard time. I loath the guy. He’s a punk, head case, selfish and rude. I would actually be rooting for him to get slammed and hurt on every play even though he was a Cowboy. That’s how much I dispise the likes of him. It would be JJ’s worst decision may be EVER if he brought him in and he’s made a lot of major errors in our recent past!

by MikeA on Nov 18, 2005 10:06 PM CST reply actions

Everyone can say now that you would hate TO coming to Dallas for everything he represents. But 10-16 touchdowns later TO will be one of your favorite Cowboys. This whole TO has been blown out of porportion. The Eagles as an organization were cocky and did not handle the TO situation correctly. TO merely asked for guaranteed money because his contract was backloaded. The Eagles maintained there cocky stance and look were it got them. I understand that one man is not bigger than the team but TO was the MVP of that team he totally changed the offense and defensive game planning. Not only that but he came back for the Superbowl. TO is also one of the hardest working players in the league when it comes to working on his body and film. Two things Parcells absolutely loves. I would give anything to see TO come to Dallas I think it would be a great fit and sick offense. Just think if you were a defensive coordinator and had to gameplan against Witten, Julius Jones, Terry Glenn, Keyshawn, and TO and play against an already tough Dallas defense. That would be a hard team to beat.

by Jason on Nov 18, 2005 11:28 PM CST reply actions

T.O. will not play for the Cowboys. Parcells will be the first to tell you that he’s too old to be playing games with players. The only games he wants his players playing, is on the field on Sundays.

Losing Al Singleton really showed against Philly. Our run defense was porous. Losing Jay Ratliff is also hurting our D-Line rotation, which explains the lack of pressure on opposing QBs.

We need to blitz Roy Williams a little more. Not too much to get us in trouble, but enough to keep opponents off balance.

The Cowboys will finish 11-5, win the NFC East and will host a play-off game. After that, who knows? However, with this defense, I really like our chances to get to the NFC Championship Game, provided that injuries don’t hurt us anymore. We may not win it, but it will be exciting, like 7 of the last 9 games we’ve played. Down to the wire!

    Go Cowboys!!!

Cundiff will be back kicking for the ‘Boys come Thanksgiving. He’s looked good from what I hear, and he’s a whole lot better than anyone we’ve had here since Scott Boniol……? Well, since training camp anyway, when he got injured.

Where’s Efren Herrerra? We need a kicker who can throw the ball on fake field goals! LOL! Those were fun to watch, and I held my breath everytime! I think Seattle used his passing talents more when he joined them in 1978. Regardless, he was fun to watch.

Speaking of past Cowboys kickers, Toni Fritsch recently passed away in his native Austria a few months ago. He last kicked for the Cowboys in 1973, I believe, and he was replaced by Herrera, who in turn was replaced by Rafael Septien. I think Herrerra and Fritsch actually replaced each other a couple of times. Wow, time flies…..

Bring on Gary Danielson and the Lions! Boy, they sure could use him now! LOL!

by onepaniolo on Nov 19, 2005 2:59 AM CST reply actions

Toni Fritsch last kicked for the Cowboys in 1975. Here’s how he and Efren Herrera took turns. Kinda weird, actually, and probably will never happen again!

    1971-1973 Toni Fritsch
    1974 Efren Herrera
    1975 Toni Fritsch
    1976 – 1977 Efren Herrera

Rafael Septien I believe kicked for the Cowboys the longest. He was with the ’Boys from 1978 to 1986. How many kickers stay with the same team for 9 years anymore?

for you to be on JJ’s case and stick up for TO is just more proof you have no idea about what a real TEAM is.
JJ is a team player as he has shown- TO is all about ME. TOTALLY DESTRUCTIVE of team chemistry. Why has NE been doing so well- CHEMISTRY is part of the reason. As far as I am concerned, what little credibility you had is NOW gone. Just plain dumb is what you are.

Everything starts in the trenches. If the O-line doesn’t get it together, we are doomed. Parcells has been protecting the Tackles with TEs and backs. That’s really why we’re so conservative on O. IMHO, if our O-line dominated Bill would allow the O to open up, despite his conservative approach. Until then, our D will have to keep us in the game and hope we can be close in the 4th.

Superbowl… Well, I’m hopeful…

I agree with you. We also don’t have a young Aikman, but we do have a promising young RB, three in fact, and a young WR (Crayton) who looks like he can be the number one guy someday. The defense is really the group that looks so much like that early ’90s D.

Dallas will run the table and loose to St. Louis because we will rest our starter sicne its the late game we wil kow our fate by then. Dallas 12-4 second seed to Seattle.
    Seattle:12-4
    Dallas:12-4
    Carolina:12-4
    Chicago: 10-6
    Atlanta:11-5
    Wash: 10-6

I expect teh giants to calapse and for mannign to make some mistakes in key close game situations as he did last week. I see the skins improving under Brunnel and Gibbs.

We played the best team in the NFL (Denver) and should have beat them (after a 3 games in 11 days stretch). Indianapolis may go 16 – 0 but will lose to Denver in the playoffs. IF Denver makes it and IF Dallas makes it, WE CAN BEAT DENVER. Ask yourself, if the “A” team shows up for Dallas in each game from here on out, is there anyone who can beat Dallas? NO. COWBOYS GO ALL THE WAY. The only team standing in front of Dallas’ SB bid is…..DALLAS.

They even have the Giants ranked ahead of the Boys. I’m not sure what they are smoking over at CBS but they need to de-tox. Sunday should silence some of the critics when Dallas man-handles New York.
