Better soon than later. That he isn’t already is more proof of anti-Boy bias by the MEDIOTS!

I agree. When the whole mess with Irvin and the Bong and/or crack pipe I thought that it would keep him out. At first I was a bit miffed with the Playmaker, but then I thought about Wright and how this situation created for him the kind of hole or lane (pick your metaphor) he used to create.

Hey Cowboy Fans,

I wish we had him now.

I was a cowboy fan when Rayfield Wright was playing. Just one of many cowboys overlooked from the 70`s.
The steelers got in all the time but the Dallas players were passed by.

BTW: Please stop with all the bashing of JJ & Bledsoe , for those of you people who do not really understand football the game is still won & lost on the LINE. This has not changed in the 33 years I have been watching football. If the Colts had our offensive line they would be no better than us.To blame JJ or Bledsoe @ this point is not looking at the real problem. See where LT runs with no blocking. See where Peyton throws with no time to read & only 2 receivers because his running back & TE are in to mass protect. Please aren`t you watching these games,

Say what you want, when you wash away all the glitter & fancy plays , all football is are 2 Things:
Blocking & Tackling

Without these 2 things you will lose !!!

See how simple it is !!!

Hey Cowboy Fans,

BTW: For all of you Bashing JJ & Drew who`s fault was it opening play of the 2nd half when Clancy knocked the ball down as Drew was handing it to JJ 3 yards behind the line of scrimage ???

by Jesse New York on Dec 5, 2005 3:00 PM CST reply actions

Who cares about this guy or that guy. Enough blame. Winners step up and make plays. Winners make throws under pressure. Winners are able to slow down the charging blitz. Winners are able to dictate the game. For that, I thank you Aaron Glen. Can anyone name a player wearing silver and white that did that? They were all bad.

by j on Dec 5, 2005 4:44 PM CST reply actions

I don’t think I would vote for Wright or Irvin, with these guys ahead of them on the ballot:

Reggie White
Art Monk
Troy Aikman
Ray Guy
Derrick Thomas
Warren Moon

by Lex on Dec 5, 2005 5:15 PM CST reply actions

I would like to see Troy, Michael Irvin, and Rayfield Wright all go in this year. I would also add Drew Pearson and Too Tall Jones. I wish.

Of course we all know about the HOF bias against the Cowboys, so I would be surprised if any Cowboy other than Aikman makes it in this year. After what they did to The Playmaker last time it is obvious that they don’t like Cowboys players.

by Sterling on Dec 5, 2005 5:41 PM CST reply actions

Lex, I don’t think you understand about the senior candidates. The seniors can be voted in IN ADDITION to whatever non-seniors get in. It’s a different track. So those other players you mention are not “aheada” of Wright. If Wright is a finalist from the Seniors committee, then it’s just a matter of a yes or no vote on him. Like it was last year for him and Bob Hayes.

by GG on Dec 5, 2005 6:05 PM CST reply actions

You guys have to get off this COWBOY bias crap, if you think thats their is a bias against the cowboys, how do you think the Broncos fans feel, can you tell me how many players are in the Hall of Fame from the history of the 2 time superbowl franchise,——ONE!!!!

by Derrick on Dec 5, 2005 6:08 PM CST reply actions

Whoops. Meant to say “ahead” of.

Also, interview in DMN last week with Darryl Johnston; Johnston said he used to not think there was a bias against people (read: Cowboys) for Hall entry, but after being among the media for a year, he had seen things — factions and politics — he wished he hadn’t that made him change his opinion.

by GG on Dec 5, 2005 6:10 PM CST reply actions

Derrick, most of your 2-time SB winner teams is still playing. I’m sure there will be some more from those teams that make it when they’re due, e.g. Shannon Sharpe and an O-lineman or two. Terrell Davis absolutely was on track but his career was cut short.

by GG on Dec 5, 2005 6:13 PM CST reply actions

I wasn’t speaking of the two times they won it, the total history of the framchise, you dont get into the Hall of fame just because you won a superbowl or if you were part of a superbowl team, its your career.

by Derrick on Dec 5, 2005 6:18 PM CST reply actions

NOBODY…Cowboy or not deserves to get in the Hall until Bob Hayes. The man changed the game of football. His speed forced the invention of zone defense. His career averages match Randy Moss’ so-called unheard of numbers in his first few years. And Bob did that over a career …without a solid football background in his childhood and college! It is sick that he isn’t in.

Interestingly, he was originally snubbed for similar problems that Michael is now having. Wonder if Irvin will be in the same boat 35 years from now as Bullet is now.

It is a Hall of Shame not Fame until Bullet’s bust arrives.

by Rev. Michael on Dec 5, 2005 6:36 PM CST reply actions

Derrick…if Super Bowls win don’t get you in then please explain how the entire roster from the 70’s Steelers is in the Hall.

by Rev. Michael on Dec 5, 2005 9:48 PM CST reply actions

ask Marino

by Derrick on Dec 5, 2005 10:03 PM CST reply actions

Okay for fun name all the deserving Broncos that weren’t on those Super Bowl teams.

Poke

by Poke on Dec 5, 2005 10:16 PM CST reply actions

Ask Marino?

That has nothing to do with the herd of Steelers in the Hall. Have you ever looked at Lynn Swann’s numbers? He has NOTHING but rings and a handful of highly acclaimed catches.

by Rev. Michael on Dec 5, 2005 10:18 PM CST reply actions

Shannon Sharpe is the only one close, Poke.

by Rev. Michael on Dec 5, 2005 10:19 PM CST reply actions

But he was on the Super Bowl teams. I was getting the feeling from Derrick that he felt there were deserving Broncos pre-Super Bowl wins.

Poke

by Poke on Dec 5, 2005 10:31 PM CST reply actions

Hey Poke…my buddy and I were talking the other day about the “amazing” rb history in Denver. Without looking up anyone…name as many Bronco rbs as you can that aren’t named Tony Dorsett, Terrell Davis or are still playing in the league.

by Rev. Michael on Dec 5, 2005 10:34 PM CST reply actions

Seems like there was a Humphrey in the late 80’s…early 90’s.

by Rev. Michael on Dec 5, 2005 10:39 PM CST reply actions

I assume we are excluding Portis, Bell, Anderson, and Dayne (three current plus one who went looking for Mr. Smith in Washington).

Checked out the Bronco’s site and found this – http://www.denverbroncos.com/page.php?id=154

Not a whole lot of HOF type names on that list.

Poke

by Poke on Dec 5, 2005 10:44 PM CST reply actions

But could you come up with any not still playing other than Dorsett and Davis. Not a stellar bunch huh?

by Rev. Michael on Dec 5, 2005 10:45 PM CST reply actions

This is so much fun watching the Philadelphia Uglies get manhandled.

by Rev. Michael on Dec 5, 2005 10:47 PM CST reply actions

I did a quick search of the other team record holders for other positions….still not a lot of names jumping out at me. I am not saying there aren’t any deserving Broncos, and I know that growing up and living the Heart of Cowboys Coutry makes me more likely to hear the names of great Boys more than great Broncos. But my question is an honest one – How many pre-Super Bowl Broncos are truly deserving of the HOF?

For that matter how many other teams with numerous SB appearances have as few reps in the HOF as we do?

Poke

by Poke on Dec 5, 2005 10:50 PM CST reply actions

Rev. Michael,

Let’s see:

— Floyd Little;
— Otis Armstrong;
— Rob Lytle;
— Bobby Humphrey;
— Steve Sewell;

Little was really good, but that was way back in the late ’60s, early ’70s. Humphrey had some brief moments. The rest were grinders though Armstrong was a grinder with some burst. As you said, though, no HOF material here.

by Rafael Vela on Dec 5, 2005 10:53 PM CST reply actions

Raf-Show off. Very nice. I remember Sewell…at least the name. The others mean nothing.

We are quite spoiled huh?

Perkins, Hill, Dorsett, Walker, Smith…and who could possibly forget Paul Palmer!?! :)

by Rev. Michael on Dec 5, 2005 11:01 PM CST reply actions

I guess Derrick has gone to bed. Oh well. So shall I. Just one more thing for you all to discuss while I sleep. I will read your opinions in the morning. Does Larry Allen make it in. Guard is a tough position for the Hall. I think he is deserving but I wonder if teh last couple of years has tainted his career to much right now. If his career was over today, I don’t think he has a chance. If he gives us a few more solid years and distances himself from those two injury-plagued seasons then I think he might have a chance. I never saw Hannah play…too young…is Larry as dominating or better?

by Rev. Michael on Dec 5, 2005 11:05 PM CST reply actions

hey guys

Parcells today said “But we’ve got it fixed.” in context to the Offensive line problems.

I say, wow.. that was fast. BS I also say. He feels he has to say something positive but we all have eyes. This line has been suspect ALL year. Nothing has changed in one day.

by MikeA on Dec 5, 2005 11:17 PM CST reply actions

I think LA has the best shot of the modern Cowboys linemen (better than Erik Williams, IMO). But he could help himself out some by playing better for a couple of seasons longer.

Poke

by Poke on Dec 5, 2005 11:39 PM CST reply actions

I think Larry Allen should and will get in-but what makes it a certainty is the way Madden latched onto him for all those years and built him up, often calling him ‘maybe the best ever.’ I love Allen, but I got tired of Madden’s overdone praise-he always picks one thing and then drills on it the whole game! Also, I’ve always wished Allen had a little bit of that Erik Williams mean streak-a little more emotion wouldn’t hurt.

by larry on Dec 5, 2005 11:42 PM CST reply actions

Mike A,

What was the context? I’m guessing that either they changed personnel, simplified what they were trying to do or both.

He also said they didn’t make many mental mistakes on Sunday, which means that they’re playing people who are simply in over their heads, for whatever reason, be in injury, age, inexperience or incompetence. They just got whipped. And this is twice by their biggest division rival.

It’s probably a facetious line meant to say that they’re as good as they’re going to be this year, which they probably — sadly — are.

by Rafael Vela on Dec 6, 2005 12:11 AM CST reply actions

Hi Everybody!

I wonder if McCain will vote for Warren Moon…or if he will outright lobby against him.

OT

by Oiler Troll on Dec 6, 2005 1:49 AM CST reply actions

Rafael:
Parcells was quoted as saying:
“We had two false starts, two penalties on the offensive line and four sacks. That’s enough to stop some drives right there. That’s pretty much what happened. But we’ve got it fixed. I think we can certainly do better than we did.”
But, in his Monday press conference, all I could hear him say was “…that’s pretty much what happened…so…” and then a question was asked whether much could be done in terms of personnel, and he answered that question.

by Lee on Dec 6, 2005 2:02 AM CST reply actions

Lee & Raf:

I didn’t hear anything about having it fixed, either, and if I had, I would have thought it was BS, too. Bill, like him or not, does not often BS the press—instead, he seems to barely tolerate their really foolish questions. He was clear: the mistakes weren’t primarily mental, except for Gurode’s failure to change the blocking scheme on the fumble play; instead, the line was consistently getting beaten up physically by a superior opponent. That will not change much with coaching or play calling. It requires a major personnel upgrade during the off-season.

by cowboy bert on Dec 6, 2005 8:00 AM CST reply actions

rookies play worse on the road……..Petitti’s first visit to the meadowlands. Gurode and AJ incompetent play at C. Rivera? No pro bowl performance and Allen and Tucker just showing up.

I think when AJ is healthy he is an OK center……I can see Petitti developing…….get Adams back. Allen needs to have another better year next year………Rivera if healthy maybe that helps that situation……or who knows maybe the guy is done and retires or is cut…..

I think Bill sees his recent pickups as future potential. I question coaching though. Not parcells but Sprano. He did Oline in college not the pros and he was the TE coach and did a great job with Witten or was Witten just going to be good either way?

Houck and Hoffman back on staff and lets see how the kicking and blocking improve.

by Jon on Dec 6, 2005 10:05 AM CST reply actions

On Denver’s HOF worthy candidates:
Floyd Little – Very deserving OL
Randy Gradishar – Very good LB on the Orange crush D
Who the heck was #77, forgot his name but he was very good on those same soda pop D’s
Rod Smith may go in but the other smurfs of a WR probably won’t.

Anyway, Wright cannot be compared with the current crop. There’s two senior guys automatically in the final selection, up or down. 6 of the modern-day guys will get selected. Min of 3 go in (incl. seniors).

By the way, Bullet Bob just recently had his modern chance and was admittedly voted down by a bias (see Paul Zimmer’s write-up).

Irvin gets voted down again, but two boys will go.

by Fighter15 on Dec 6, 2005 12:19 PM CST reply actions

F-15

I beleive the #77 you’re thinking of is Lyle Alzado. A memorable but tragic figure, he won’t make the HOF as the stain of steroid abuse will keep him out.

Did you mean Floyd Little was a deserving RB? Because he is that.

by StarStruck on Dec 6, 2005 2:09 PM CST reply actions

Hey guys, I liked Eric Williams too, but in my family we nick-named him Eric “offensive holding” Williams. He was called for that quite a bit if I remember correctly

by TC on Dec 6, 2005 4:59 PM CST reply actions

Jon,

Houck ain’t coming back. He was in S.D. and just fled them for a HUGE contract from the Dolphins. I guess retirement is not too far away and he gets to choose between S.D. and Miami. What a choice.

The guy Parcells has been eyeing for a long time is Larry Beightol, his OL coach for the Jets. He’s in Tampa. Took the job when he thought Parcells was going to land there. Stayed when the Tuna didn’t and won a Super Bowl ring. I don’t see him being pryed from Jon Gruden’s clutches, but every offseason since Parcells has been in Dallas, the rumors have surfaced.

by Rafael Vela on Dec 6, 2005 10:32 PM CST reply actions

Rayfield Wright should have gone into the HOF 15-20 years ago. It’s long overdue!
