Second Half Thread -- Cowboys vs. Chiefs

Whew! Some quick items:

-- fifth time is the charm. It took four successful screens by the Chiefs, but Dallas was ready for the last one;

-- what a difference a lead makes. The pass rush went up one notch in intensity after the flea-flicker to Glenn and one more after the Witten TD.

And Dallas gets the second half kickoff.

I hope they can carry this momentum into the second half. The Chiefs have been able to move the ball, which worries me. Go Defense!!!

by onepaniolo on Dec 11, 2005 4:57 PM CST reply actions

well, lets hope Dallas makes the halftime adjustments to slow down the Kasas city offense. W egot the ball to start things off, lets have a long Touchdown scoring drive and make it a two score game.

by Derrick on Dec 11, 2005 4:59 PM CST reply actions

i’d love to see the Cowboys get Crayton back in the mix this half – but if they wanna keep throwin’ the ball to witten i’m all for that too : )

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 5:00 PM CST reply actions

KC is still confident
look for same plan coming out 2nd half
Green looked like he hurt his left hand falling on it on the fumble
Let’s see if we can get to his right hand

by linus on Dec 11, 2005 5:01 PM CST reply actions

onepaniolo:
Kansas OLine started looking slow footed in that last drive that went nowhere, they started the game with their motors at full, just like the Denver unit, things could be good if they get as tired considering that the Kansas Defense isn’t as good as the one of Denver.

by Chandus on Dec 11, 2005 5:03 PM CST reply actions

They need to anticipate lots of KC blitzes on first downs now. The Chiefs run blitzed pretty well that half, but now that Bledsoe is killing them, they’re going to come all the time. If Dallas is ready for them, the fun will continue. No play action early. Just max protect and attack.

by Rafael Vela on Dec 11, 2005 5:03 PM CST reply actions

pissedoffan
over here buddy
I’m not the enemy even if I live in KC

by linus on Dec 11, 2005 5:04 PM CST reply actions

Raf
you are right
but the running of barber has put a damper on that

by linus on Dec 11, 2005 5:04 PM CST reply actions

i agree with what somebody said a little earlier – think they should take chances on defense – do whatever it takes to get to Green – if they play it “safe” KC has already shown they’ll march down the field – bringing everybody on the blitz is risky yeah, but if they’re gonna put down the KC offense, they HAVE to take some risks – KC O. is just too good
i sure hope the D. doesn’t come out playing all conservative just cuz they have the lead

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 5:05 PM CST reply actions

Is Pettiti paralyzed or something….block the guy dammit

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:08 PM CST reply actions

thats not how you want to start the second half, three and out

by Derrick on Dec 11, 2005 5:09 PM CST reply actions

bledsoe held the ball everyone was covered

by linus on Dec 11, 2005 5:09 PM CST reply actions

yup – but looked like Bledsoe had at least a little time on that 3rd down – that indicates at least SOME pass protection – i think KC just had good coverage – i wanna see how the defense comes out to start the half – pumped up and aggressive i hope

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 5:10 PM CST reply actions

Good Punt. Bledsoe does make some good plays, but I think we would actually be better if he got hurt (don’t wish that on any Cowboy, BUT that is the only way we get to see what Romo can do) and we had a fast QB playing behind our O line.

Thoughts on Romo rolling out in the playoffs?

by Travlr on Dec 11, 2005 5:12 PM CST reply actions

Travlr……Romo wouldn’t last day behind this line. Bledsoe has been on e of the better players in our team this year.

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:13 PM CST reply actions

Little late to be looking at Romo.

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 5:13 PM CST reply actions

i’m not sure our O. line problems are minor enough that they can be solved by a quicker QB – they seem to be doing a little better today – i’m thankful for that – but i’m not sure a quicker quarterback would have been all that much help when the O. line performs like they did against the Giants for instance

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 5:14 PM CST reply actions

This deffense has to play better…get a stop dammit

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:15 PM CST reply actions

Green has TOO much time – could we at least try a friggin’ blitz?

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 5:16 PM CST reply actions

We have gotten to Green 1 time this whole game. He has had all day the rest of the time.

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:16 PM CST reply actions

Man, we suck today

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:17 PM CST reply actions

I know he has not thrown a pass in regular season in his career, but at least he can move.

by Travlr on Dec 11, 2005 5:17 PM CST reply actions

that was pathetic

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 5:17 PM CST reply actions

Where is the d today?

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:17 PM CST reply actions

nice stop D

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:17 PM CST reply actions

so much for us being aggressvie.

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 5:18 PM CST reply actions

this might be our first loss by over 7 points, if the d can’t figure this out. We are being exposed. They can beat us any way they want. One mistake hurt them, but we are playing pitifully on defense.

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:18 PM CST reply actions

the chiefs have been doing this to alot of teams, they’re pretty good

by Derrick on Dec 11, 2005 5:19 PM CST reply actions

The defense if playing like we have a 30 pt lead.

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 5:19 PM CST reply actions

Derrick,

I thought our d was too.

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:20 PM CST reply actions

I’m glad we are focusing on shutting down Johnson

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 5:20 PM CST reply actions

exactly – they need to bring everybody on the next defensive possession – they’ve tried playing it safe and that’s proven not to work – if they blitz every down that might get us burned too, but what they’re doing now DEFINITELY isn’t working
open up the blitz Zimmer – what have we got to lose

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 5:20 PM CST reply actions

Has Thompson ever made a move. He just runs straight ahead into the pile. Decent field position, but try to make a move.

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:21 PM CST reply actions

yeah, after 3 TD and 125 yards he might be getting tired…maybe our strategy was to wear him down before th 4th qtr

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:22 PM CST reply actions

huge third down

by ba on Dec 11, 2005 5:23 PM CST reply actions

Wow, with this offense, the Chiefs should make a lot of noise in the playoffs. They’re making Dallas’ defense look pedestrian.

Unfortunately, I don’t think our offensive line will allow us to keep up with their scoring.

It looks like the Chiefs will be the first team to score over 30 points on our defense. Unless Zimmer can figure out a way to stop these guys, it’s gonna be a long afternoon.

3 TDs for Larry Johnson. I didn’t think Grandmama could run like that. Oops, wrong Larry Johnson. LOL

Priest Holmes will be looking for a new team next year.

by onepaniolo on Dec 11, 2005 5:24 PM CST reply actions

unbelievable

by ba on Dec 11, 2005 5:24 PM CST reply actions

Hey, has any noticed that Phil Simms is kind of a Dallas homer. As much as Troy Aikman tries to pick on the Cowboys, Phil is always looking for the silver lining.

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:24 PM CST reply actions

better go for it….we aint going to stop them on D

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:24 PM CST reply actions

good job reeves

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 5:24 PM CST reply actions

I hard rumor, that Sean Payton’s name was brought up to be a head coach in the NFL….I feel sorry for that team if they take him.

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 5:25 PM CST reply actions

Chandus,

I hope you’re right bout Kansas City’s offensive line slowing down, because we have no answer for Larry Johnson at this point.

by onepaniolo on Dec 11, 2005 5:25 PM CST reply actions

Now hold em,get the ball back in good field position….

by sharkz on Dec 11, 2005 5:26 PM CST reply actions

I don’t think Payton has anything to do with this. This offensive line is just offensive.

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:26 PM CST reply actions

our d is playing like a bunch of women…luckily i got LJ on my fantasy team

by ba on Dec 11, 2005 5:26 PM CST reply actions

come on d, step it up

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:27 PM CST reply actions

I played against him…Payton sucks..

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 5:28 PM CST reply actions

How about a blitz now? Let Green have time and he’ll kill us right here.

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:28 PM CST reply actions

JEEZ – still green had all that time – had the cowboys blitzed that could have been a safety

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 5:28 PM CST reply actions

burnett!!!!

by Derrick on Dec 11, 2005 5:28 PM CST reply actions

good job deffense…..you suck!!!!!

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:29 PM CST reply actions

Who missed that tackle?

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:29 PM CST reply actions

well i guess they blitzed on 3rd that time and got burned – i guess i will shut my mouth

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 5:29 PM CST reply actions

bring me back Glenn

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:29 PM CST reply actions

when you’ve got 3rd and 12 why blitz?

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 5:29 PM CST reply actions

Henry missed it

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:29 PM CST reply actions

Loo,

If Henry makes that tackle, its a great call.

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:30 PM CST reply actions

Now its time to blitz

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 5:30 PM CST reply actions

this game reminds me of the miami game on thanksgiving a couple years bacck

by Derrick on Dec 11, 2005 5:30 PM CST reply actions

What can we do to slow this offense down?

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:31 PM CST reply actions

They just burned a time out by the cowboys showing some type of blitz scheme

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 5:31 PM CST reply actions

so now they screen it…

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:32 PM CST reply actions

chiefs have over three hundred yards of offense already.

by Derrick on Dec 11, 2005 5:32 PM CST reply actions

Bluecheese….we’ll have to shoot them

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:33 PM CST reply actions

haha or play w/ 20 on defense

by ba on Dec 11, 2005 5:34 PM CST reply actions

yay…we stop em

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:34 PM CST reply actions

Nice d that time

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:34 PM CST reply actions

pissedoff – i was saying they should have blitzed on 2ND down – the one where they actually ended up sacking Green – i was saying had that play been a blitz, they could have gotten him in the end zone for a touchback

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 5:35 PM CST reply actions

but then they turned around and blitzed on 3rd & 12 ( i agree with u – i’m not sure why) and got burned big time

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 5:35 PM CST reply actions

I feel safe with Crayton catching punts, but he is never a threat to do anything with it.

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:36 PM CST reply actions

Sean Payton just sucks as a offensive coordinator….

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 5:37 PM CST reply actions

nice pocket and throw

by ba on Dec 11, 2005 5:37 PM CST reply actions

This line is looking good……I cant believe i just wrote that

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:39 PM CST reply actions

if we could establish a run game we could score with ease against this D

by ba on Dec 11, 2005 5:39 PM CST reply actions

Jones is very quick…they guy is playing H U R T…..

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 5:40 PM CST reply actions

Forget the run, for now. Just pick your way down the field. Get Crayton involved, and keep throwing to Witten. I agree with the max protect scheme.

by Bluecheese on Dec 11, 2005 5:40 PM CST reply actions

its been so long since I’ve seen a sustained drive that I have tears

This is what an offense is supposed to look like

by linus on Dec 11, 2005 5:41 PM CST reply actions

ManTab
Then he don’t need to be on the field, he isn’ on the injury roster.

Just for all of you out there…I will not be happy untill the Cowboys are winning Superbowls by 30pts

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 5:47 PM CST reply actions

What would you have called, ba? Those 3rd and 1s have been far from automatic the last month.

by ba on Dec 11, 2005 6:02 PM CST reply actions

I think Crayton needs to work his way back into the offense. He’s a little bit rusty and has dropped some passes, or he’s not able to run and cut his routes which is more likely. He still isn’t back to full strength enough to get separation

by MikeA on Dec 11, 2005 6:02 PM CST reply actions

let’s play the bend dont break defense

Newman got burned

come on.. I thought this D was good

Their pass rush has been crap
Their run defense has been horrible
Their pass defense has been awful

The Chiefs are a great Offense..

but it really shows how far Dallas’ Defense still has to go.. quite a ways

by MikeA on Dec 11, 2005 6:09 PM CST reply actions

Well, time to see if this offense has one more drive left in ’em.

by onepaniolo on Dec 11, 2005 6:09 PM CST reply actions

we better score a TD and leave no time on the clock…this deffense will not stop KC

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 6:10 PM CST reply actions

Newman didn’t get burned. He left his man to cover Gonzalez, expecting a Safety to pick up Kennison.

by onepaniolo on Dec 11, 2005 6:11 PM CST reply actions

Who’s worse Henry or Newman?

by Cuervo68 on Dec 11, 2005 6:11 PM CST reply actions

they suck anyways…it has been the case all season with the D

We have a solid defense, BUT it’s their penchant for giving up big plays that kills us. It didn’t this time, but boy it was close. I would have hated for it to go into OT then lose the toss, because KC has a scary offense!

i wanted philly to pull that out that sucks so bad

by jokerz on Dec 11, 2005 6:45 PM CST reply actions

That’s funny. Our defense has kept us in games all year long, but likes to give up big plays and we’re all over them.

Our offensive line sucks, and they put up 31 points!

This is nuts! The Cardiac Cowboys!!! I don’t know how many more games like this I can take. Pass the Alka Seltzer, ‘cause this is how it’s gonna be until BP fixes things in the off-season.

Damn! The Giants just won!

by onepaniolo on Dec 11, 2005 6:45 PM CST reply actions

i agree bluecheese…unless you got the baltimore d of the late 90’s early 2000’s, you cant win all your games w/ defense…our d is still young and were overacheiving early in the season…next year when it’s tweeked it will be the best in the league

by ba on Dec 11, 2005 6:46 PM CST reply actions

Until the coaching staff starts call plays aggressive on both sides of the ball, this is what we should expect.

ROY W. NEEDS TO GET HIS HEAD OUT OF HIS ASS

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 6:47 PM CST reply actions

ba, you may be right…..I sure hope you’re right! because this ofseason should be fully commited to 1 linebacker or safety and the rest…pure offense, specially O lIne…..

This D will have to do for next year

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 6:49 PM CST reply actions

ManTab,

I’m not angry. Why should I be? The defense has holes. Has all year. It’s not a finished product. It just went toe-to-toe with the best offense it’s faced all year and got singed. So what?

We’ve known the safties are suspect in coverage. We’ve known that since the Redskins game in week TWO. Today, Davis got confused on the Kennison TD and Williams played way too soft on the last play. I think it’s commendable they’ve been able to hide them this long. The Giants weren’t able to expose them (oh, wait, they did at the end of game one.)

This is like complaining that the Cowboys o-tackles are bad. Tell us something we didn’t already know.

by Rafael Vela on Dec 11, 2005 6:51 PM CST reply actions

If the offence coud jump on a team and get them into throwing every down this D… could be lethal. And that is what I expect.

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 6:52 PM CST reply actions

And if your mother was the Queen of England, PissedOffFan, you would be a Prince.

They’re not going to face the K.C. secondary every week. You think they can just wave their hands and bomb away at everybody? Bledsoe got killed today. If they xerox this game plan and run it every one of the last three weeks, Bledsoe won’t be active when the season is over.

by Rafael Vela on Dec 11, 2005 6:57 PM CST reply actions

Pissedoff. Did you happen to see the few times we blitzed on third down and got burned? Its not that easy fella.

We can play with ANYBODY…

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 7:12 PM CST reply actions

There was an idiot from either ESPN / Sportsline or Foxsports who picked KC to beat Dallas 34-20 or soemthing like that and he’s explanation was: Two words why thr cowboys won’t make the playoffs…“Drew” and “Bledsoe”.

I am desperately looking for that article to find his e-mail and give him a couple of thoughts about his sisters, daughters and another few family memebers if the SOB has any…anybody saw that article?

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 7:14 PM CST reply actions

I don’t get why anyone has been down on Drew Bledsoe this season. He’s been fine.

Why can’t Roy Williams come out in obvious passing situations? That’s a serious question.
If I’m a QB, i’m just going to watch the receiver who runs through Roy’s area of responsibility and get him the ball, because I know he’ll be open.

by joey2zs on Dec 11, 2005 7:18 PM CST reply actions

for the record i’m still here – i’ve been on the phone with friends/family celebrating the big win today : ) lol

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 7:20 PM CST reply actions

I’ll give this one to the offensive line. I didn’t think the o-line could play this good. Well, they weren’t that good, but good enough to allow Bledsoe and crew to execute and put up 31 points.

Yeah, I bet against ’em for the first time all year, and they end up winning. Maybe I should bet against ’em the rest of the way. LOL

These guys are definitely the Cardiac Cowboys. Solid defense that gives up big plays, and an offense that can put up 31 points one game, and score only 10 the next.

The o-line played well enough to win. I’ve slammed them all week, and they showed that they have heart. I hope they can build on this the rest of the year and make the playoffs.

by onepaniolo on Dec 11, 2005 7:21 PM CST reply actions

People have been on Bledsoe because it is very easy to say: “he held the ball too long”. People, specially idiots on the media, don’t realize how bad this O-Line has been at times.

I strongly believe Drew Bledsoe has played a probowl caliber season considering the fact that this line is horrible. Give Bledsoe the line that San Diego has, or KC and the guy is just as good as anyone (better than Green or Brees for sure).

Roy doesn’t need replaced, he just needs to play more responsible

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 7:27 PM CST reply actions

what did we learn today?
1. Team never gives up.
2. Our offense can match a high powered offense such as KC.
3. Defense can adapt
4. Parcells can coach

just got home my cell phone is prolly gonna blow up from all the refreshes i had to do. excellent win sounded like the defense had some troubles, but hey this is a damn good offensive team we played. im happy for the win, now just win 2 of the next 3 and we should be ok.
anyone
how did henry look today?? and did the safeties screw up in coverage again????

I agreee but Sean Payton did not call that TD to Campbell in the endzone. Go Parcells!

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 7:30 PM CST reply actions

POF,

He’s needed to play more responsibly for his entire pro career. The Redskin loss fell in great part on him. He played soft and let Jeremy Shockey score the typing TD in the Giants win. His coach attacked him obliquely, but made it clear he blew the defense. He was soft again today at game’s end.

At what point do you simply say he’s not up to it? I say the minute they find somebody who can play better in those situations.

onepaniolo,

You bet against us for the rest of the year. I’ll cover half the losses buddy… ;)

I said it early in the game. Juluis does not look right. He can’t cut on that ankle and that is key to his game. He has not been able to break towards the whole. Barber has been solid.

We can’t lean on Pile and Davis on passing downs. R. Williams is just as good/or bad for pass coverage as those two.

Sorry bud but the Safety screwed up again.

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 7:31 PM CST reply actions

in the last pass play to dante hall it looked like we had linebackers out there were we in a dime package Am I wrong?

by linus on Dec 11, 2005 7:33 PM CST reply actions

Rafael

Roy is the strong safety. He has to play aggressivly but at the end of the game if you know anything about football you play deep as the deepest and as wide widest?

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 7:34 PM CST reply actions

safeties almost gave up a HUGE one at the very end – well actually they did – but KC thankfully blew the field goal – my biggest complaint with the safeties play today wasn’t so much their contribution to the overall pass coverage, but the shotty tackling after KC made a catch – i watched Gonzales on one play in particular roll right past Roy Williams in the open field…not used to seeing williams miss tackles like that – allowing catches yes, but missing those kinds of tackles no

henry was limping a bit – but hey they got a win and now henry has all this week to get revved up to help stomp a mudhole in washington’s a** – we definitely owe them some payback!

Random thoughts:

I think the draw and pass to Dan Campbell was a terrific call. I don’t think anyone saw that coming. Wow.

Disappointing to see the secondary melt down, but I think Parcells will take care of it – once again.

Fujita made the play of game. I know a lot of people in this blog have complained about him all year, but he really came through in the clutch. Tremendous play against his old teammates.

I thought it was interesting to see how Dallas could collapse the pocket on one series of downs, and be totally manhandled the next series. They are inconsistent – but a very good young group.

Parcells stubborness to open games up with deep passes all season may be toooooo conservative. I think they can win games by 10 points rather than all these nailbiters. They truely are the Cardiac Kids of the OO’s with this style of playcalling.

by psychocowboysfan on Dec 11, 2005 7:42 PM CST reply actions

lol – well i’m no football analyst by far, but i think when evaluating their play (safeties) you can’t get around taking into account who it is they’re playing against…KC has a pretty darn good Offensive line and a pretty good quarterback – not to mention receivers the caliber of TE gonzales – that O line is gonna give green more time to look for the open man – and in turn those receivers are gonna have time to make more moves to get open – that makes it kind of tough to cover – i think everybody could clearly see in the 1st half we were getting 0 pressure on green (other than the fumble return) – u give that much time to an offense that’s that good and they’re gonna find open people to throw to and make receptions – but after the catch it’s crucial that u limit that yardage with good tackling….the play at the end of the game i consider an exception, cuz you KNOW what you have to prevent – it’s not a guessing game any more – 12 seconds left – KC HAS to pass and HAS to get a certain # of yards – not much excuse in that case for blowing coverage

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 7:44 PM CST reply actions

but regardless, it’s on to Washington next week…are the boys gonna put together 4 straight wins to close out the season or what? i personally don’t think Carolina is as good as their record – if u ask me there’s no question the boys beat the toughest of their last 4 opponents today

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 7:52 PM CST reply actions

(when i say “4 straight wins” i’m including the one today of course)

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 7:54 PM CST reply actions

I agree about the tackling. KC fared very well in YAC. Why on earth do players in the NFL not wrap their damn arms around people??? My ten year old son says they want to be featured on ESPNs “Jacked Up” segment more than they want to play sound fundamental football.

I was disappointed in the play of Anthony Henry. He was playing WAY TO FAR OFF THE RECEIVER. I know he may be hurting, but that’s no excuse. I think this was Roy Williams’ worst game of the season since the Skins debacle.

Anyone see Keyshawns blocking? M. Mohammad with the Bears said last week that he had a great, I repeat great, game with zero catches. I didn’t think it was possible until I saw Keshawn and all of his monster blocking today. He had a great game too.

by psychocowboysfan on Dec 11, 2005 7:56 PM CST reply actions

I think we can pull off the run of the last games like I said ealier im sure it will be tough with carolina some weeks u see them weak an some weeks they got there stuff together i just hope we can do it.
It would be nice to see them go 11-5.

by jokerz on Dec 11, 2005 8:00 PM CST reply actions

Keyshawn is the true definition of a Champion. The guy gives 200% every week blocking, cacthing, deffending, etc..

by ManTab on Dec 11, 2005 8:01 PM CST reply actions

i agree psycho – i never thought about it that way, but think your son might have a point lol

and yeah keyshawn was a stud today on blocking – puttin that big old strong body on people helps – hell remember it was him that knocked that Philly Eagle out cold…and KJ didn’t even drop the ball : ) – that was a case where the defensive guy jacked HIMSELF up when making a hit

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 8:01 PM CST reply actions

POF,

I know Roy’s position. They won the game, and that’s all that counts, but he was much deeper than the deepest. The guy he tackled ran the deepest route.

BTW, since you’ve indirectly dinged Payton and given Parcells credit for the Campbell TD, the pass that clanged off Campbell’s hands a few plays earlier and was almost intercepted was also Parcells’ call.

PsychoCowboysFan,
Henry looks like a guy who’s not 100%.

It all worked out in the end. I’m happy.

Ok, One more reason Payton should be canned or occupy some coaching position on a High School football team. If Roy was as deep as the deepest receiver he should have made a play on the ball.

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 8:11 PM CST reply actions

I think we should have started this a long time ago. What is it I’m talking about? Treating our Offensive tackles like they can play football and quit giving them so much help. The number of sacks allowed were the same, but we were able to piece together TD drives because we had more options in the passing game, namely Jason Witten.

by Cash on Dec 11, 2005 8:12 PM CST reply actions

Rafael,

I was surprised by the idea of going with Campbell on that play because he missed the other catch. Plus, he’s known as a run blocker, not a catcher. They were clearly expecting the run. That’s why I loved the call. I hope I didn’t misundertand your comment.

I also thought it was interesting that L. Johnson was able to gain over 130 yards and they still lost. KC should have stuck with him more than the pass. Dallas’ pass D is really very good. They just seem to have mental errors at the worst possible time.

Does anyone notice how whenever Dalllas starts doing good, something wierd happens – an injury to the other team, the end of a quarter, a booth review, etc…It always seems to slow down their inertia. Just a thought. I could be a little psycho…

by psychocowboysfan on Dec 11, 2005 8:14 PM CST reply actions

Roy leaves alot to be desired in the pass coverage game. I would probably take him out in dime and prevent packages, he serves no purpose there. But hey he wasn’t too bad in coverage in the Eagles game now was he?

dang skippy P.O. and Pshcyo – i agree on both statements – i know it’s stating the obvious, but i think it’s worth repeating – bottom line is the D, although overall have been awesome this year i think, have blown some important coverages at the end of games – and the O line has caused more than one person in this blog to want to chew the barrel of a gun at times (i should know – i read the blog for a while before i signed up and started posting today – not to mention screamed myself hoarse at the TV in that debacle of a Giants game last week) – BUT – i think the offense showed today that they have heart – the D has shown all year that they’re capable, and i think that today the offense got a real shot in the arm with that performance – who knows what they’ll do in washington next week, but i think we now know for sure that this cowboys team is MORE then capable of bouncing back from not only hard-fought losses, but from losses resulting from pathetic cowboys performances…they’ve certainly shown that they’re not “scared” of anybody, and will not be intimidated…i’m really diggin that right now – i’ll see you guys next week! watch out Redskins!

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 11, 2005 8:35 PM CST reply actions

Parcells said before the game that he hoped the team would win because of “all the hard work they’ve put in this year.” I think he’s going the Dick Vermeil route – Love ‘em to death. It’s not vintage Parcells, but is shows that he can adapt to today’s players. Ya’ll have to remember all the injuries he’s had to endure: Singleton, Nguyen, Jones, Crayton, Adams, et al. These are very good players. Yet he’s kept this team in contention. In my opinion, BP is worth 3 to 5 wins a year. I know I am stating the obvious, I am feeling the love!

by psychocowboysfan on Dec 11, 2005 8:46 PM CST reply actions

hate the Vermeil way…everytime he starts crying, it makes me want to kick his a$$….sorry old SOB…

ManTab,
Sounds like a plan, betting against the Cowboys the rest of the year. I just won’t bet the house! ;)

I sure hope we Skin the Skins in their own house. That would be sweet if we end their playoff hopes!

The offense looked great. I hope they can build on this momentum, especially the o-line. I also hope that the defense doesn’t fall apart at the end of the game.

Perhaps that’s hoping too much, but I’ll sure keep the Alka Seltzer handy for these Cardiac finishes!

Go Cowboys!!!

by onepaniolo on Dec 11, 2005 8:57 PM CST reply actions

Does anyone think that DeMarcus Ware could use a few moves, rather than simply trying to overpower the offensive lineman? I am not seeing many moves on his end. I think he’d jack up his sack total if we makes some moves…Thoughts?

by psychocowboysfan on Dec 11, 2005 9:01 PM CST reply actions

Yeah Psycho,
If they keep winning, I hope old Bill just keeps riding the Love Train!

ManTab,
I hate to kick the old man, but I also wonder if I’m watching a figure skating press conference whenever Vermeil cries. The NFL should fine him for conduct unbecoming a football coach!

by onepaniolo on Dec 11, 2005 9:04 PM CST reply actions

POF,

What are you talking about? Payton is the OC. He’s not responsible for Roy’s drops. And the point I’m making is that Williams was too deep for the guy in front of him. He thinks preventing the TD is okay and gave up a 34 yard completion. He wasn’t even withing two steps of the guy when he caught the ball.

by Rafael Vela on Dec 11, 2005 9:04 PM CST reply actions

Raffy
I am tired of arguing with you.
They just need to execute on both sides of the ball with out period.

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 9:15 PM CST reply actions

Bottom line: Roy is an old fashioned smasher safety, and in that capacity the best in the league IMHO.
What he is NOT is a cover safety, neither is Davis. If we had one of those we would keep Roy near the LOS. But every team has holes and the coaches create schemes to minimize weaknesses and play to strengths.
When Ware,Canty, and Spears are no longer ROOKIES our schemes will change.
  For now I am happy!

by Travlr on Dec 11, 2005 9:17 PM CST reply actions

I am not worried about our defense. I want our offense to play more consistent EVERY week.

by PissedOffFan on Dec 11, 2005 9:24 PM CST reply actions

POF said “They just need to execute on both sides of the ball with out period” and blamming Sean Payton (the offensive coordinator)for Roy Williams mistakes??

WTF does that mean? I tell you he has been a real asset with his knowledge and positive comments today. I would rather read an opposing teams troll posting today than some of the crap he has come up with today.

by CowboyUp on Dec 11, 2005 9:40 PM CST reply actions

10 of 13 games have been won (or lost) in the last few minutes, often in dramatic fashion.

If they keep going like this the Boys are going to lose a lot of fans – from heart failure!

by Boy from Oz on Dec 11, 2005 11:58 PM CST reply actions

Roy is a far better player near the line of scrimmage than he is in coverage. Since Dat went down it seems like he is the leading tackler week in and week out. Admittedly he is not a great coverage safety (we all learned that last season when he had to drop back and try to help the CB’s more often), but he is one of the best in the league at smashing running backs and bringing down WR’s on slants and crosses. He needs to get better at defending seam and deep out routes, no question.

Like Rafael said, he should be replaced when we have someone better. Since that doesn’t appear likely anytime soon, he should stay out there.
