F*** YOU O-LINE, we can’t go frikin 2 lays without a holding or false start penalty. we would actually have a measly 3 points if cundiff had been kicking from the 15 YARD LINE like he should have, but no, we have a penalty, on guess who? the offensive line. i say we fire them all, FIRE EM. flozell adams must’ve been the only good influence on the rookies, cause larry allen has just as many flags as rob pettiti and torrin tucker. THANKS FOR BLOWING OUR SEASON O-LINE

i dont even think i can watch any more of this. i might just go pop the whole can of aspirin and end my misery, its the only humane thing to do for a cowboys fan right now. GOD, WE’RE LOSING OUR WORST GAME OF THE YEAR TO THE REDSKINS!!!!!!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND! REDSKINS!!!!!!!!

Yes, folks, it has finally caught up with us. We were due for a blowout against us. I’m just disappointed it was against the hated skins.
Parcells says “You are what you are.” This is what we are, a mediocre team that has a lot of holes to fill. Let’s hope that the draft is as succeesful next year as it was this year, because the oline needs to be rebuilt like how the dline was rebuilt.
Unfortunately, like Raf said, our linebackers suck as well, and needs to be rebuilt. Perhaps the Ware experiment will end at OLB and he plays DE next year, and let’s trade one of our d linemen for a true OLB.
Sigh. Just the musings of a very disappointed fanatic!
by onepaniolo on Dec 18, 2005 4:50 PM CST reply actions
Well, now we know we should have taken Merriman. Ware is completely lost out there. Our O line is pathetic. The D is making Cooley look like the best player in the NFL. Forget the playoffs. What good does it do the get there and then play like this. BP- Fly home at halftime.
by mlf on Dec 18, 2005 4:54 PM CST reply actions
First chance Ive had to actually watch the cowboys since preseason. The cowboys miss FG, Bledsoe is inaccurate, receivers dropping balls, the team is riddled with penalties, the running backs look like they are stuck in glue, the line can’t block, there is no pass rush, pass defence has disappeared, tackles are being missed, and the run defense looks like swiss cheese. Besides those deficiencies, the cowboys look pretty good.

by Rev. Michael on Dec 18, 2005 4:55 PM CST reply actions
I peek in on the 2nd half from time to time but will Mute the TV. I just peeked and the Skins were recovering a Bledsoe fumble. The beat goes on.
by mlf on Dec 18, 2005 5:01 PM CST reply actions
We are totally owned and embarrassed. An emphatic end to the season.
Clean house on the oline, even if you have to trade some of our dlinemen. This is horrific! Absolutely the worst oline we’ve had in Big D in a long time. Awful!!!!!
by onepaniolo on Dec 18, 2005 5:01 PM CST reply actions
The only player that looks like he has th intensity is Tyson Thompson on returns.
by starfire on Dec 18, 2005 5:04 PM CST reply actions
Rev,
Don’t bother. It was over quick.
52-0 is not out of the question. The oline sucks, and the defense all of a sudden cannot stop anyone.
Carolina and St. Louis are salivating at the prospect of playing us in the next two weeks.

You guys are WOOLLY WOOFTERS!
You can’t give up, and you have to watch the whole game, right to the end.
It’s only 35 to 0.

Torrin Tucker doesn’t look like he has any business playing in the NFL
by starfire on Dec 18, 2005 5:12 PM CST reply actions
Hello all.
anyone want to draft a WR in the 1st round next year?
Or are we going oline for five rounds.
by alanTdot on Dec 18, 2005 5:14 PM CST reply actions
I’m with you on that Linus, but I don’t think you want to throw him into this mess.
The poor guy would get killed. We do need to see if he can play though, and with the way Bledsoe is getting pounded we may see Romo, because Bledsoe may not be able to finish this one.
This oline has no heart. Petitti and Tucker are not good enough, and Larry Allen and Marco Rivera are getting old fast, and Johnson/Gurode are not good enough either. If they were, why do they share playing time?
Clean house on the oline, and at linebacker!

Starfire, that was funny! Give them new flags!
by onepaniolo on Dec 18, 2005 5:17 PM CST reply actions
Starfire,
It’s not just Torrin Tucker. It’s the whole oline. I’m with Linus on putting in a more mobile Romo, but I think Parcells will wait until Bledsoe breaks a leg!
by onepaniolo on Dec 18, 2005 5:19 PM CST reply actions
I just peeked and found the score at 35-0. Where is Romo? BP should give the bench warmers a chance to play.
by mlf on Dec 18, 2005 5:19 PM CST reply actions
Man, 35-0, and this blog is practically abandoned. How sad. This is a character builder game for the boys. Let’s see who continues to play hard, and who gives up.
This is where BP can see who to keep next year, and who to dump!

BP had better borrow a disguise from Portis for the arrival back in big D. Otherwise the airport porters may not carry his bags. Hey, Witten just scored so the shutout has been averted. 35-7
by mlf on Dec 18, 2005 5:40 PM CST reply actions
The shutout is over.
I can’t believe how many so-called fans have deserted this blog. We’re losing the biggest game of the season, but it ain’t over. You never know what will happen the rest of the season.
I am starting to jump on the M. Barber bandwagon. JJ isn’t cutting at all. One long run. That’s it. ‘Course, we had absolutely no offensive line. Let’s put Columbo in and see what he’s about. I think Romo should go in too. Bledsoe looks like a statue. If we had a guy like Drew Brees, he’d be running away and making the passes. Did you see Howie Long say we should boot Bledsoe and go after a guy like Brian Greise?

by psychocowboysfan on Dec 18, 2005 5:53 PM CST reply actions
I hate say this but I wish somebody would break Bledsoe’s leg.. to get him outy… as long as he is our QB.. we will be a mediocre team at best.
I can’t stand BP’s fascination not playing younger QB’s I we would have played Hansen or Romo last year we would have known were we stand. Kind of like giants, when they played little manning and lost 7 in a row but you see the result now.

by starfire on Dec 18, 2005 6:00 PM CST reply actions
psycho –
well to me everything is about trade offs – drew is a HELL of a QB – when he has time that is – obviously he can’t and won’t scramble – so to me it comes down to 2 choices – 1 get the O. line to where Drew can have all day, or 2 make REASONABLE improvements to the O. line and get a QB in there that is more mobile – my personal feeling on it is that they’re not gonna be able to get a “Drew” O. line in place in time to put it all together – ever since Troy i’ve felt they need to draft a franchise QB whenever they get the rest of the team built to where they’re ready for one – i think they’re close now…gotta fix up that O. line…but personally i’d love to see them move on a franchise QB soon…i could be wrong but i just don’t feel like Romo’s the guy for the long haul

by onepaniolo on Dec 18, 2005 6:07 PM CST reply actions
alanTdot – just to clarify my latest post – i don’t mean to bad-mouth bledsoe – in today’s game he hasn’t had very good protection (again)…so it’s not quite fair to judge him by that..i’m saying that as far as the future – i’m just not sure the boys can build the kind of O. line that Bledsoe needs in time to get a super bowl…if they had the #1 o. line in the league right now i’d be all about bledsoe – and i think they’d be tearing the entire league a new one…bledsoe’s still got some years in him i think, but he’s no spring chicken…as far as replacing him i guess my opinion is it depends on how quickly they can generate a better O. line for him to play behind
by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 18, 2005 6:09 PM CST reply actions
Marco Rivera is out. Can it get any worse? As bad as this oline has played, it will get worse without Rivera, if that’s possible!

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 18, 2005 6:14 PM CST reply actions

Bledsoe is not the problem. It’s the oline, and our run defense, plus the propensity to give up the big play.
by onepaniolo on Dec 18, 2005 6:15 PM CST reply actions
To me, Marion Barber is a third down back, in the mold of Richie Anderson, and JJ is just not Emmitt Smith. In the back of all Cowboy fan’s minds are Emmitt, Tony, D. Thomas and maybe C. Hill and W. Garrison. That said, both JJ and MB are pretty good and will be better next year.

Can somebody tell me why Ol Clubfoot is still in this game? Is there no sense of the future and letting Romo get some garbage time snaps? The reason FrankenDrew has been with three teams is that teams get there hopes up with his good arm, then get torn apart with his mistakes and lack of mobility.
Try a change of pace Bill! Damn this sticking with someone we know about, use this as a learning point for Romo.

by onepaniolo on Dec 18, 2005 6:31 PM CST reply actions
The Cowboys lost twice to the Skins one year and then won the Superbowl. According to that stat, we’re on our way.
by mlf on Dec 18, 2005 6:31 PM CST reply actions
onepaniolo,
Bledsoe will not help us to go far. I realize we have sucky oline.. However, I am not sure any oline can maintain the blocks for eternity so Bledsoe can throw a good pass. If that is the case every QB can do the same given allot of time. A QB needs to make other plays by moving around and stop being a statue. Throw the dam ball instead of getting sacked way behind the scrimmage line.. I am just sick of it.
by Toast on Dec 18, 2005 6:31 PM CST reply actions
And to all of you saying its not Bledsoe, well when this game was still in reach he missed 4 straight passes that should have garnered 3 first downs. He has at least 2 terrible (NOT hurried) passes in every game this year.
If he was consistent I could live with his club feet, but he is not.
Time for a look at a mobile QB.
AND one for the future, Bledsoe has no more than 2 more years as a sterter in this league.
by Travlr on Dec 18, 2005 6:31 PM CST reply actions
Psycho,
You’re right. We’re not that good. We’ve been fooled all season by our defense coming up with big plays and stopping the run the first half of the season. This is who we truly are. Not good enough!
The NFL wanted parity, and they got it.

The best contribution Bledsoe bring to a team is when he gets hurt and is replaced with a QB which comes up with victories.
by Toast on Dec 18, 2005 6:43 PM CST reply actions
We can’t forget the fact that we lost two very good linebackers in Dat Nguyen and Al Singleton. They are ALOT better than Fujita and Scott Shanle. Like many have pointed out, we also lost Adams. JJ was hurt – I am not even sure if he’s healthy. We’ve had one disaster after the other.
by psychocowboysfan on Dec 18, 2005 6:44 PM CST reply actions
I’m glad I had my mute on the TV so I didn’t hear the ’don’t let our babies grow up to be etc’. Don’t blame the Redskins team for that. Those low life tricks are pulled off by little willy people controlling the stadium sound system. All the same, it should be a motivator when we meet them again, I hope in the playoffs this year. Is that posible? I’d better look up all the what-ifs involved for that to happen.
by mlf on Dec 18, 2005 6:44 PM CST reply actions
this is who the 2005 cowboys are. a slightly above avg squad.

With the number of quality d linemen we have, why don’t we try to trade for a quality QB? Who’s out there, though? Is it even worth it?
Do we trade a few players and picks for Leinart? Do we trade with San Diego for Brees or Rivers? Is Rivers even any good? How can we forget the last Chargers QB we picked up? Ryan Leaf…..ouch!
On top of that, we need to rebuild the o-line and our linebacking corp.
Is Julius in a sophomore slump, is he still hurting, or is he not as good as we saw last year?
Is the Demarcus Ware experiment at OLB working, or do we move him back to DE and get someone else for OLB?
Lots of questions, lots of holes. This sucks!

This was without a doubt the worst game I have seen the Cowboys play since 1985 when they got blown out at home by the Chicago Bears. It was embarrassing to watch. After our first offensive possession I felt like I was slowing down to watch a car wreck just to see the blood and gore.
Pathetic is the only way to describe this game. I can’t even point to a single player or play that made me feel confident about any aspect of this team. That is sad…that never happens. There is always at least one good thing to take away from each game. That isn’t the case today. This was a nightmare…plain and simple.
We are at least 3 offensive lineman, 2-3 linebackers, and a decent QB away from getting to where we need to be. I have stuck up for Bledsoe all year, but after 7 sacks today it is not just the O-Line…it is him too. He looks like a girl when the pass rush comes at him. He stands there waiting to get sacked. He needs to retire, because it’s over. Great final run, but nowhere near enough. Forget it. Bring in a young guy with some poise and a little tiny bit of mobility. This is a joke.
We need a lot more work than I realized. The Redskins are not a bad team, but they aren’t anywhere close to as good as they were made to look today. We have been hiding our weaknesses all year, but today exposed mostly all of them. BP and JJ have a lot of work to do this offseason.
by Sterling on Dec 18, 2005 6:51 PM CST reply actions
This loss has to be devastating for BP. The bottom line for any football team with aspirations for success is running the ball and stopping the run. Getting your butt physically kicked like this has got to be demoralizing after 3 years of working with this team. It must be pretty obvious to BP that he has to rebuild the o line, maybe from scratch. Does he have the patience and stomach for that?
by andyhoe on Dec 18, 2005 6:53 PM CST reply actions
Linus,
That’s the least I can do after a loss like this. Glad I was able to make you laugh. Then again, our offense made us laugh all game long…

Aikman, Marino, Elway, it wouldn’t matter with the protection Drew got today. The absence of Adams on the O line has made a huge difference.
I would not have said this a couple weeks ago, but Barber is the best back on the team. Let’s run him 30+ times next week.
We need to get in to the playoffs even if it’s one and out.
With some O line improvement this team is contending for the NFC championship next year.

onepaniolo:
At this point I would say trade whoever and whatever to get a good QB. Both SF and Houston have young QB’s that they seem to be sticking with, and both desperately need defensive players, etc. One of them will undoubtedly take Reggie Bush, but the other probably won’t want to take Matt Leinart because of cap problems and already being committed to a young QB. Leinart could get us to a Championship. I say deal the farm if necessary. The Giants got Eli and are winning the division. We have to get a top notch QB in there or forget about it.
The line is another story. At this point I don’t think the NFC Pro Bowl lineman would be able to buy Bledsoe enough time to win. The Cowboys should just run the ball 60 times next week. Thirty carries for MBIII and 30 for JJ.
Get Leinart, or at least that guy from Vanderbilt. Something’s gotta give.

Thanks for bringing back those painful memories. I hated the Super Bowl Shuffle. I was rooting for the Patriots to beat the Bears in that Super Bowl, but they got their butts whooped!
I agree with you about Bledsoe. I’ve stuck up for him all year too, but he hangs on to the ball too long. It all goes hand in hand to football mediocrity.
Bad oline play, a QB hanging on to the ball too long, Running game inconsistent, Defense giving up big plays, and can’t stop the run lately, Bad play-calling….. It all adds up to an 8-8 team.
Time to rebuild. Again!

If he continues to coach and be conserative, he needs to go.
I do not understand, that last week he knew his team needed to score points but this week he felt like they could play conserative and win.
When you coach like that and you prepare your team to play close games and they learn to lose.
Besides today, I have not seen the Colts play close games, they go in with the attitude to blow teams out.

I don’t think the Boys can realistically get Leinart while beefing up the line and getting linebackers. Like BP said, “You can’t dial 1-800 GET A QB and one will magically appear.” It isn’t that easy. If it were that easy, the Bears would have someone other than Kyle Orton.

I was pulling for the Pats that year too. I was so sick of hearing about the Bears, I just wanted to see them get beat.
Anyone can go back and read for themselves all the praise and defense I have made for Bledsoe. Today just showed me something else…that when it comes down to the biggest game of the year, in the crunch, you can’t rely on him. He is not a playmaker or a game breaker. Keyshawn is more of a leader than him. He doesn’t have what it takes to get this team to a Championship. Maybe not even what it takes to get them to the playoffs.
The Boys played like the Girls today. It’s one thing to get your a$$ whipped, but another to get served up like that by the Redskins. Inexcusable. I would be shocked if we make the playoffs now, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see us finish 8-8.
The O-Line was bad enough…but where was our Defense? Pathetic.

I agree that if we had a quality o-line, it would make a difference, but Bledsoe hangs on to the ball too long. If we don’t go for a franchise QB, then we need to let Romo and /or Henson play to see what they have.
If they’re not ready, and we don’t go after a franchise qb, then we definitely will be rebuilding for the next two or so years when one of them steps up. Bledsoe isn’t getting any younger, and with our o-line, how long will his career last?
What if Henson or Romo never step up?
What a dillema.

i was gonna mention the “L” word earlier (Leinart) – but didn’t wanna freak anybody out – lol
for the record – i think drew is a great quarterback – but he needs to be lining up behind the absolute #1 O. Line in the league to really take advantage of his talents – unfortunately we’re at the OTHER end of that O. line scale right now…i just don’t think drew has enough time left in his career for us to get the O. line where he needs it to be for his non scrambling style of play
the prob. is next week the O. line might step up and have a great game, and drew could rip Carolina for 300+ yards again…when you get those little “bones” thrown to you during the course of a season, it makes it really hard to “erase the chalkboard” and start over at QB position….

I know what you’re saying, but c’mon Bledsoe just doesn’t have it. He has shown flashes, but he can’t perform in the clutch. I know getting a top flight QB is hard, but it has to be done or this team is going to stagnate and be a one and out or “almost” playoff team and nothing more.
I think if the price were right JJ could trade up to get Leinart or at least that guy from Vanderbilt. I hope he is on the phone tonight trying to make a deal.
For once I agree with AW on this. Get a 1st round stud QB and then build around him. It worked for the Colts and is working for other playoff teams.

Well it looks like Dan and Joanne don’t won’t to play tonight.
Does anyone on this forum think that Julius Jones could not have done what Tiki Barber did yesterday (running for the Giants) or could have gone 83 yards against the Colts today?
Julius runs behind $9 million man Marco Rivera. The Giants completely shuffled their offensive line yesterday and don’t tell me about the Chargers’ O-line.

Loozeeana,
That’s what drives me nuts about our o-line. Way too inconsistent! Drew is good when he’s given time to throw.
Leinart may or may not be the franchise qb we’re looking for, but if we’re to contend in the future, we will need one.
Regardless, as bad as the o-line is, it doesn’t matter who’s the QB. We won’t get anywhere.

I agree that Drew hangs on to the ball waaaaaaaaay toooo lonnnng. It’s ridiclous. I just think we’re asking for too much to think we can significantly beef up about 3 or 4 area. I am trying to be a realist. My ten-year-old son said, without my prompt, BP should put Romo in. I think BP should have started pulling lineman in order to humiliate them. Who knows, maybe that will inspire someone, anyone, to start blocking. Those 5 penalties at the beginning of the game were ridiclous.
Oh yea, is anyone noticing Bledsoe, a 6 ft. 5 inch dude, is always throwing the ball so that the defensive lineman are blocking it? I’ve never seen anything like it.
by psychocowboysfan on Dec 18, 2005 7:22 PM CST reply actions
If Drew needs so much time, then why the hell don’t we run out of a shotgun once in a while. Especially in the 4th quarter when they already know we are going to be passing anyway.
I don’t get it.

In the second half, my thoughts were that the Redskins were working on their defensive stats. The game was irrevocably lost in the final 2:30 of the first half. I screamed at my set the entire time and the Cowboys called the exact plays I screamed they should not run in their situation. Result 28-0, halftime. Game over. Yeah, right, blame it on Bledsoe.

The more I think about it, I am amazed that it took us until the 14th game to realize some of these things.
This team was really exposed today. I used to think all those close games were just flukes and that other teams were getting lucky. Now I realize it may very well have been the other way around in a lot of them.
I have been a Cowboys fan since I was 5 years old, and I always will be no matter what. That’s why I am so down on them today. I have seen Cowboys teams with far less talent put up more of a fight against way better teams. The fact that this was a must win against the Redskins of all teams makes this even worse.

Bledsoe is just as inconsistent as our o-line. From NFC and FedEx Player of the week, to 1TD and 3INTs. This team is very inconsistent.
If we can get a good o-line together, Bledsoe is good enough for another year or two. After that who knows? He hangs on to the ball too long and is a statue back there. If he had our 1992 o-line, then he’ll succeed. He doesn’t, so he’s inconsistent.
As our o-line goes, so does Bledsoe. Add that to our MIA running game, and it spells disaster.

Bledsoe getting sacked 7 times and hurried/batted 11 times tells the story. Yes, it is very much our OT’s, but if he knows it is coming he has to be able to move at least enough to make a play. There was a lot of plays that lasted about 4-5 seconds because the pass rush had already collapsed the pocket and Bledsoe was on his way down because he looks like he is in quicksand. It’s unbelieveable!!
They used to call Danny White the “Glass Quarterback” because he got shattered so much under pressure. Bledsoe is called the statue, but statues are built of rock so that name doesn’t even fit. Bledsoe should be called “Mr. Quicksand” because when the pocket starts to collapse he sinks into it and falls to the ground. No athleticism. He’s got a gun for an arm, but no legs at all.
There was actually one Redskins DL who had only 2 sacks coming into the game and then got 4 in this game. He tripled his sack total in one game. This isn’t a blitzing LB, this is a regular interior DL who I hadn’t even heard of before today.
The playcalling was brutal, no question. If JJ can lure Norv Turner back and get rid of Payton I say do it. At least a few people (Torrin Tucker, and our “long snapper” from that missed field goal comes to mind) should be fired immediately after this game.
This was our worst game in 20 years. I think it was around the 13th or 14th game of 1985 that we got smacked down similar to this by the Bears. The difference is they were a Super Bowl Champion and considered the best defensive team of all time. Not the 2005 Redskins!!

Why are we complaining about Aikman and Jerry Jones? They are the reasons we had 3 Super Bowls victories in the 90’s. Neither of them were the reason for this loss today. The team played like girls and got their a$$es kicked.
It wasn’t just the sacks, or the false starts, or the turnovers, or the dropped passes, or the lack of a running game. It was bad all around at every position we were outplayed. There wasn’t even enough heart in these guys today to keep us in the game. If it weren’t for the facemasking foul at the end of JJ’s big run we may not have put any points on the board at all.
There was no fire today. No grit. No fight. They just layed down and took it. It’s embarrassing.

I am not sure who to blame. I have all the respect in the world for BP. I think the playcalling is poor. I think the QB played poorly. I think the Defensive line and linebackers played poorly. I think the running game stunk. This puzzle is tooooo big to try to figure out.
One thing I have to say, I really like Aaron Glenn. He’s been a great pickup. He covers very well. Moss had a great game, period.
I just don’t know who to point my finger at. I think it’s a combination of a lot of things, including injuries that the team has faced.
Would I like to see the fire in Bill? Hell yes. He seems to darn nice. He needs to get on DeMarcus Ware way more. The guy was a first round pick and he’s getting manhandled. Meanwhile, Merriman could make the pro bowl. I agree that Tucker should be working at Burger King and not on the o-line of the Cowboys. Heartbreaking! Easily the worst game of the year just as we were anticipating playoffs.
No fire in anybody’s belly today-lots of ammo from Sept game-what gives? Has BP run out of motivational speeches?
Judging by the playcalling in the second half the coaches took a cue from the players and gave up. No adjustments made. What about some no huddles or shotgun formations to make a game of it? Are rollouts out of the playbook completely?

I can’t figure out why they don’t do the shotgun formation…Is our center really that bad??? Is Parcells that conservative? I’ve seen Drew roll out…They could have called more rollouts and certainly could have tried the no huddle. It’s little things like that that may throw off the other team. It’s like they are expecting miracles to happen, rather than create them. You can’t rely on the other team to ‘lose’ the game. It rarely ever happens that way – except for the night in Philly when we were handed the game. It’s insane. You create your own luck, you don’t wait for it to miraculously happen.
by psychocowboysfan on Dec 18, 2005 8:48 PM CST reply actions
Certain games really make you realize what you’ve got from a personnel stand point.
After the loss to Carolina in the playoffs two years ago it was apparent we needed a new running back and that Quincy Carter was not going to be able to manage a game and was not the field general to get any NFL team beyond the first round of the playoffs.
Today we learned that our O-Line is pathetic, possible the worst in the NFC. We learned that our defense just cannot stop a power running game. We need better linebackers if this 3-4 thing is going to be effective against a running team. Lastly, we learned that there in no way Bledsoe can cut it in a big must-win situation when we need him to throw the ball. This is the last straw for me with Bledsoe. He doesn’t have what it takes. A 6’5" QB should not be getting his passes tipped and batted by lineman, and he falls down in the pocket the second the pass rush starts to collapse the pocket even a little bit.
Everyone on the team deserves the blame for this loss. Some areas were just way more glaring and obvious than others.

Where the hell is the pass rush. No pressure at all on them. We might as well have played prevent defense the whole game!!

Great analysis Sterling. I agree with you. I made the point about the tipped passes earlier. It’s odd that a big man like Bledsoe can’t pass the ball more effectively.
A friend of mine once told me that Drew Bledsoe is a lot like weather in the midwestern states. You never know what your gonna get from week to week. He’s way to inconsistent. Standing and waiting to be sacked is pathethic. My grandmother would try to move out of the pocket before he does. I can’t figure it out. It’s like his processing ability is slow.

I don’t believe Bledsoe is the problem. Here are my pressing issues.
1. Our O-line is maybe the worst in the NFL, save the Texans (maybe?). OLine is horrible.
2. Was Singleton really that good? Our run defense has suddenly become horrible. Yes, maybe our linebackers are small or inexperienced or whatever, but our Dline was also getting blown off the ball today. That was maybe the most disappointing part of the game for me
3. Ware is not yet worth the 12th pick. Maybe he will be. Let’s hope so. Merriman looks a lot better right now.
4. Why didn’t BP put in Romo? Is he ever going to get an NFL snap? If not today, then when? And if not today, then why do we keep him?

MizzouCowboy,
The coaches don’t play the game either, for that matter. I don’t blame the commentators for this game. I could care less what they say, really. Just getting into some conversation about them. Chalk it up to frustration.
Bottom line is this team is not very good and has a long way to go. I see a lot of personnel moves in the off-season. A few coaches may go as well. We lost, they suck. Good Night.
by onepaniolo on Dec 18, 2005 9:09 PM CST reply actions
madcowboy..I agree with all your points, except for 4. If you play Romo or Henson with this line, they could get hurt badly, both mentally and phisically.
I dont know how we will replace Tucker and Pettiti at tackle and Johnson and Rivera next year. We will get Adams back next year and hopefully Larry…the rest of this line has to go, these guys just suck. They are bad, they have no heart and have absolutely no talent….
by ManTab on Dec 18, 2005 9:10 PM CST reply actions
Keep in mind, Nguyen is also out. That’s two experienced linebackers that we don’t have. We’ve been getting crushed on runs because our d-line is getting blown off the line and our two outside linebackers have no clue what’s going on.
Ware is getting manhandled. He is using zero moves to get past his man. It’s disappointing at best.
Don’t count on Romo unless Bledsoe gets hurt. With this offensive line, you never know.
Don’t forget the Barber debate. I think he’s running better than Jones at this point. Jones isn’t cutting at all. I watch Thomas Jones and Warrick Dunn tonight and it’s clear to me that JJ isn’t the JJ of last year. BP needs to go with the players who give him the best chance of winning. I don’t think it’s JJ right now.

2. It isn’t Singleton, it’s not having Dat in there. Dat was great against the run and he was like the QB of our defense. Since his injury every team that has any running attack has destroyed us on the ground. We need another guy like Dat.
3. Ware is obviously sliding from being a player with a lot of potential to the category of wondering if he can make it in the future.
4. I agree about putting in Romo, but that kind of contradicts your point that Bledsoe is not the problem. Either way, who even knows if Romo can play any better.
by Sterling on Dec 18, 2005 9:12 PM CST reply actions
and yes, Barber is playing better than Jones (because of injury) and Merriman looks like a better pick than Ware at this point. Even Derrick Johnson looks better now. I don’t know how good Spears has been either. I think we missed on these two picks. They will be good players, but I dont know if they will be ever 1st round talent.
This team was just unprepared today…I really hope Payton and Zimmer are history…

Toast, I was being “politically correct” with my comments. I agree with you.
I think Sterling’s comments about Nguyen are very true. That guy was all heart. He could play. His impact was huge. I always thought he never got enough credit. It was always about Brian Urlacher in the media, but Dat was the unsung hero.

I don’t know about you fellows, But I really would like Hansen get a shot at QB.. He was pretty good at MI. He was suppose to be top 2-3 player picked when he came out of college. He is the man… Just my take.
P.S. He is not a STATUE.. He can run pretty good and has very strong arms.

we miss Dat…..and believe it or not Singleton too…….Fujita is a special teamer and part time reliever and he is all we got to start at OLB? We need help…..
Offensive line was atrocius. They all played like rookies……hech Petitti might have played as good as any of the rest of em. There ain’t a qb in the league……including Mike Vick……that could do anything when a 4 man front line gets that many sacks on your qb……awful.
Worse performance on both sides of the ball all year. It aint Jones or Barber it is the men in the trenches that were beaten and bloodied today.
Well we mailed this one in, maybe next week we show up……well I will be there to cheer em on. Best play better than this week or it will result in the same!

Hey Rafael,
How come you don’t ever see Drew Bledsoe in a shotgun formation. Is that a snap Bill does not use? Peyton uses it……..Staubach and White used it……..I know it went away with Aikman but in the 2nd half of this game in an obvious passing situation why not use the shotgun???
by Jon Bartlett on Dec 18, 2005 9:49 PM CST reply actions
Toast,
My son finished the game. I am teaching him to stick with his team thru thick and thin. No offense.
My son watches a DVD of the Cowboys that shows the beginning of the team up until Parcells was hired. He’s watched it a hundred times. He knows all the old time players and really loves the team of the 90s. Six months ago, he bought a Emmitt Smith signed football card for $40. I thought the store ripped him off, but he loves it. It’s fun having your kids love football.
by psychocowboysfan on Dec 18, 2005 9:51 PM CST reply actions
Carl Banks responded to a question about whether he thinks the Cowboys will draft a QB in this year’s draft:
“They have to. They absolutely have to. I don’t think they can go into another season with just Drew Bledsoe. He’s not mobile enough and it restricts what you can do when he’s not mobile. They’ve done a good job limiting their downsides with Drew, but it is apparent now that they have to draft a quarterback. I think you have to keep him in the system, but it is becoming apparent that without mobility, he’s almost a liability.”
Just one former Parcells guy’s opinion, but I agree with him at this point.
by Sterling on Dec 18, 2005 9:53 PM CST reply actions
Troy Aikman was as mobile as my grandfather is nowadays and won 3 superbowls.
This team’s problem is the O Line…not the mobility of Drew Bledsoe…
by ManTab on Dec 18, 2005 9:58 PM CST reply actions
I think Parcells has done all he can for Bledsoe. He knows Drew doesn’t run, but can’t do anything about it w/o Flozell and a better line. There weren’t a ton of QBs available at the time, so he had to sign him. I don’t know why they gave him a three year deal, but they did. I also don’t know why we gave Rivera such a big, long term deal. Anyone over the age of 33, shouldn’t get more than a one or two year deal, in my opinion.

Nguyen’s injury is not the reason this team suddenly can’t stop the run. Nguyen was a nickel player for us this year. He played on 3rd down.
We were a good defense against the run until the Giants game. Now we can’t stop anyone so long as they run outside.
That hurts the most because before tonight, I really thought we were only a LB away from having the best defense in the NFL. Geez.

Hey Toast , you’re in Hawaii huh? 80 degrees, nice. I’m up here in Alaska, same as you-too early to go to bed.
One thing I’ve always said about a blowout, no team is really as good or bad for that matter as the score indicates. Yes, the oline was horrible, and the linebackers played terribly also. But 4 of Washington’s 5 touchdown drives started in Cowboys territory! Kinda hard to beat anybody when you allow that to happen.
I have faith that we’ll come out with a good performance next week. Hell, they can’t play any worse!

We have two games left and people keep saying if we fix this or that. Our problems can’t be fix this year. Before the KC game I thought we would be 8-8 then after the KC game I thought maybe 10-6. This team shouldn’t go to the playoffs. NY and Washington are on a another level. Our D has been playing bad and our Offense can only put up points with teams with a bad D. We are 3-5 against teams with winning records. 0-5 when we score 13 points or less. I’m not going to say we can’t go 10-6 but I would be more surprise if we end up 10-6 than 8-8. But its looking like a 9-7 team.

Back to talking about football…
I am sure BP will start Bledsoe against the Panthers on Saturday, but should he? With their D-Line against our O-Line he may not make it through a whole game unless we run the ball a whole lot.
Speaking of running the ball…after the way our line got used yesterday and considering the Panthers’ D-Line is waaaaay better than the Redskins, does anyone else agree with me that we should run the ball about 50-60 times splitting carries between MBIII and JJ and even TT?
I don’t see how our O-Line stops the Panthers D. Somebody’s liable to get seriously injured if we put those guys up against Rucker, Peppers, and company. To make matters worse we may not have Rivera too.

I would like to say a few things. I am a Redskins fan. I have been for a long time. That guy above who is chanting the Hail to Victory song is not what true skins fans are about. That guy is a jerk.
The fact of the matter is this. I personally am happy with the way we beat you guys. The reason is we did not deserve the first game on Monday night, we stole that one, in this one we redeamed ourselves.
We now have a slight chance of making the playoffs. We need to play just like we did yesterday to have a chance of beating the Giants, then we get the Eagles. So yeah, if we win out we will make the playoffs.
You guys have a good team, you just were outplayed, hands down. I am happy that we are fighting the way we are down the strech to make a run. Last night was Gibbs football, and it felt great.
I wish you guys the best, and I hope your player is OK.
Sincerely,

After sticking up for Bledsoe all year I am finally admitting that I agree with you now. He’s never going to get us to a Championship. We need to trade and do whatever it takes to get a good QB in the first round of the draft this year. We have to start thinking about the future, because this team is obviously going nowhere with the QB and O-Line we have now.

You don’t have the line or rbs to run the ball 60 times a game. I would like to see MB get the 20 times but that’s not going to happen unless JJ gets hurt. I would like to see Romo in if we get beat like this again because Bledsoe was getting beat up.

Yep Bledsoe didn’t look good yesterday. The line looked real bad as well.
Are we looking at Spears and Ware and wishing we had Castillo and Merriman?
We got more needs than draft picks and/or Cap space.

We also don’t have the line to pass the ball either. I feel pretty confident that if we try to pass too much against the Panthers we will end up seeing Romo because I don’t see how Bledsoe can take the kind of beating the Panther’s D-Line will dish out.
The Houston Texan’s GM is on ESPN right now basically saying flat out that if they have the second pick in the draft they will trade down and not pick Matt Leinart. He stated unequivocally that David Carr will be the QB next year and not Matt Leinart. I wonder what the chances of Dallas trading up with Houston to get Leinart would be? I say trade away future draft picks and do whatever it takes to get him.

Leinart is too much like Bledsoe, but without the arm. They are both big and Leinart is relatively immobile. My guess is he will never be a Cowboy, he is not athletic enough and has a relatively weak arm.

Troubling Thoughts on the Game:
- Our O-Line is atrocious. Need 2 new guys there next season at a minimum. Must be able to open running lanes—or no SB, ever.
- We need a mobile QB for games like that.
- In the 4th, needed to put in the backup QBs for experience and to save Drew further pounding. BP really blew that.
- Fujita’s a backup so I cut him some slack, but Ware is not supposed to give up outside runs like that. Period. Merriman looks better to me.
- This 3-4 is not stopping the run consistently enough. DL too small. Some LBs incapable of making plays. DBs forced to tackle too many RBs (then getting injured). And no pressure on the QB. Is it injuries or scheme? Who cares with just 2 games left. Let’s go back to the 4-3 (Ware at OLB, not DE). Now.
- The ’Skins game plan will now be replicated by the Rams and Carolina, so buckle your seat belts for a tough end to this tense season.

I ask that question a couple weeks ago about Merriman. Merriman was/is just ready right now to play. I see Ware like a basketball player, we drafted him based on his upside. It was said Ware is stronger than Merriman but if you saw what Merriman did yesterday you might not think that. We wont know if we made the right choice until two more years. But right now it looks like we made the wrong pick. Right now the only rookie looking like he is going to a probowl in the future is Canty.

We need a lot of help but it can be fix just not this year. We don’t have any player that can make a play on offense. TG said something last week that I agreed with he said that the trick play is a cheap TD but he will take it. So to me that is a good play call not a playmaker…..Every team in the east has playmakers but us.

I agree, we need a playmaker. It has become increasingly evident with each game. Nobody seems to be able to step up and make it happen. Trick plays are cute and exciting, but that is not the same as giving the ball to someone and that player creating something out of nothing. I think it starts with the QB. We have to draft a good one this year. This back-up QB merry-go-round can’t go on if we expect to win a Super Bowl this decade.

Leinart would have went #1 this year. Leinart is more mobile than Bledsoe, I don’t know anyone that Bledsoe is more mobile than. What makes it worst is he does hold on to the ball too long. What is funny is the knock on Bledsoe were not lies he holds on to the ball and can’t move around. People thought just because he came here it would change with BP. I’m not going to blame Bledsoe for anything. I expected this and that why I didn’t want him. Bledsoe has played well at times. I blame BP and JJ for this. They should have make sure the line was going to be able to protect him. The D has fallen apart, the three turnover didn’t help.

I agree 3 OL, at least 2 LB’s, but NO T.O.‘s. Yesterday we could have had 3 T.O.’s and it wouldn’t have changed one thing when Bledsoe is tripping over his own feet, fumbling, and tossing up INT’s. I think we need a good young QB more than another over 30 year old receiver.
I don’t think I can remember the last time I saw a defensive line completely tee off on a QB. They got 7 sacks and 11 hurries/knockdowns in one game. That is staggering. Bledsoe lost a fumble and got picked 3 times. Even if you don’t count that last one in the final few seconds down in the red zone he still turned the ball over 3 times. Absolutely brutal and totally unacceptable, especially in a must win game.

BP makes me mad sometimes because Romo is not going to play this year unless Bledsoe gets hurt. Last year Henson should have played more. That is the reason I think a lot of vets like to play for BP because he will play the person he trust or thinks give us the best chance to win. We need a spark I think MB needs to start. JJ looks sad in there I know he had a 50 yard run but he doesn’t look anything like he did last year. I don’t think he looked that great last year. I want to see what MB has this year to see if he can be the man.

I am not blaming Bledsoe either, obviously this O-line plays like a bunch of whimps. Every play the DE’s beat our tackles to the outside and then collapsed the pocket from the backside while the DT’s pushed our interior linemen back into Bledsoe’s grill.
I don’t blame Bledsoe, but it is OBVIOUS to anyone who knows football that Bledsoe does not have what it takes to get any NFL team to a Championship. He gets rattled too easily and he panics and sinks into the pocket like his feet are in quicksand. I swear yesterday when I saw #11 going down I thought I was watching a replay of Danny White in the 80’s. Bledsoe could have the NFC Pro Bowl offensive line guarding him and he still couldn’t get a team to the Super Bowl. He seriously needs to think about retirement.
That said, the Cowboys have to stop this revolving door at QB and settle on a good one once and for all. I say trade up for Leinart or the guy from Vanderbilt. I don’t care what the cost is, we have to get a good QB in there or we are not going anywhere.

The offense had a similar game like this against NY the first time. The offense had four turnovers but the D stop them. Once any team get a lead on us it going to be over for Bledsoe. We beat KC but there D sucks. When is the last time we beat a team with a good D??? A lot of people say we should have a better record and a few plays here and there. We should have a worst record. When things keep happening its a trend not a mistake. Who have we beat this year? SD( they would kill us now) NY( they beat us the second time) and KC. Who has beat us Washington (they beat us twice we scored 20 in two games.) Seattle, Denver and NY. We didn’t give any games away this year we got beat, and only in one of those games we put up more than 13 points.

The first two INTs weren’t Bledsoe’s fault. They were flukes. The fumble was his fault.
Leinart isn’t the real deal. His arm is weak. And if he is the answer for a pro team, that answer won’t come for the next 4 years or so.
All effort and attention must be spent on getting top quality O linemen and linebackers.
Ware is terrible. He shouldn’t be starting. That shows how lacking the linebacker corps is.

I’m with you I don’t blame Bledsoe for his play because its not new, he is what he is. People were getting on me for saying he was playing poorly and saying its just the line. Playing bad is playing bad weather the line is blocking or not. A lot of his mistakes are not because of the line. In the fist Washington game he wasn’t sacked once but only put up 13 points. When is the last time Bledsoe came up big against a good D? Bledsoe needs some playmakers because he is not one himself period. Like I said before why do you think two other team dumped him before for nothing.
by aw on Dec 19, 2005 10:52 AM CST reply actions
To all the people braying for Leinart.
1. You’ve got an 8-6 team in front of you. This is not 1989. It’s got a lot of real holes, but it’s got talent too.
2. You’ll have to get into the top two to select him. Dallas, at worst, probably picks between 16 or 18 if they go 8-8. I think they’ll beat the Rams at minimum, so 9-7 moves them to the 18-20 range.
3. Moving from 20 to 1 will cost you the rough equivalent of THREE first rounders. Be honest, do you really want to spend that many number ones for him? Then what? How do you build around him the next couple of years? You install him, with no learning curve and Dallas is back in the 4-12, 5-11 territory and those high picks you earn go to somebody else.
Do that and Parcells leaves tomorrow. You trust Jerry to make two good coaching hires in a row? Don’t forget his prior three were Barry Switzer, Chan Gailey and Dave Campo.
You really have the guts to go through with that plan? I sure don’t .

Something needs to happen here but its just not the QB we have a few holes. I rather suck for a year or two to get better than to be ok for 3-4 years and do nowhere. Gailey wasn’t a bad hire he restored Smith career. Now Campo was a real bad move. We don’t have the talent on offense to do anything. The D can be fix this off season but I don’t think the offense can be fixed. It can get a lot better but not fixed. I don’t know if getting Leinart would be the answer but we do need a QB to build around or some big time play makers to build around. We don’t have an identity on offense. What hurts us now is sucking for three years in a row and not having much to show for it. We should have at least one play maker.

unfortunately……..injuries hurt……the rookie wall is setting us back…….and the offensive line is nonexistent.
Who knew Anthony Henry was as important in run support as was in pass support. But that is exactly what he was, and without him we are missing an almost Roy Williams like assitance at the line of scrimmage against the run. He was huge the first half when we stopped it, and MIA due to injury and the yards are piling up. Add in NO DAT or Singleton and a very young linebacking corp deciphering the defense and getting exposed and some rookies who have peaked and looked tired and wore out.
Meanwhile San Diego has experience in their D and can let Merriman just line up wherever and rush the passer and play the line of scrimmage while we are having Ware drop back in coverage.
I know we will be better next year and in my estimation great the year after that when this stellar rookie class hits year three. Still it was sad to watch yesterday. We had our own destiny in our hands with a couple of tough road games in NY and Washington and we flopped.
Well I hope we can bounce back and make a recovery for Carolina and finish strong against the Rams…….oh yeah and now our destiny also is in the hands of other teams…….neve a good place to be.
Oh well…..so much for my optimistic 11-5……those early losses that we could have won are really haunting us now. Hope we can finish with a flourish!

Brooks backs up Bledsoe and gives us a mobile option……..remember when we won 10 with Quincy Carter? Well a little mobility back there and an arm…..Brooks could benefit from Payton and Parcells and a running game……if we can find one. We keep Bledsoe and we play the best one!!!
Add an FA MLB that parcells likes to this defense who has actually played in the NFL in a 3-4…..i am sure there will be one or two out there. Go get another OLB for the other end to Ware and for crying out loud let the kid tee off and rush the passer…….we did not drop Charles Haley into coverage……i did see him break on the ball and almost get a pick and a i saw him get burned for a td……but we spent 11th overall to bring heat on the QB………so get on with it……..let the kid line up and bring the heat!!!

I admit it is a real long shot to get Leinart, but with Bledsoe we have 2 years maximum before we are going to need another QB. Yesterday finally opened my eyes that while the O-Line is a complete disaster Bledsoe doesn’t have what it takes to any NFL team to the Super Bowl. You know I have been carrying water for him all year and making excuses and blaming the line, so this is a new thing for me. I made excuses when he threw the INT at the end that cost the Cowboys the Seattle game, I said it was the line’s fault in the Giants game, and I said all year that his mobility wasn’t going to cost us.
After yesterday I reaslize I was wrong. He can’t cut it in a big game. In just 3 weeks we have gone from a game against the Giants that could have won us the division to the game yesterday that could have put us in control of our own destiny, to next week having to win or most likely being knocked out of the wild card. Yeah, the defense was horrible, but when turnovers by Bledsoe give the other team a short field to score with it’s on the QB. That first play of the game was so bad I can’t even remember a Cowboys QB making a play that bad on the first play of a huge must win game.
I agree it would be difficult to trade up to get Leinart. That’s why I am hoping if JJ can’t cut a deal with the Texans that he drafts that Cutler guy from Vanderbilt. This team has to get a new QB next year or we will be 5-11, 4-12…with Bledsoe. I can’t see Bledsoe getting any better with age. He started the year good and has shown flashes, but in the big games that we have to win he plays horrible and can’t get teh job done.
by Sterling on Dec 19, 2005 11:49 AM CST reply actions
Guys:
- I guess you weren’t saying the same from Bledsoe after the Kansas game, when he was making throws half a second, or less, before getting hit. Yeah, at times, he should throw the ball out of bounds, but he makes plays at the last second, I guess he’s kind of looking to do something out of nothing too much. And you know, that’s a good thing, at least he didn’t gave up in this game, some players looked that way on Sunday, at least in the first half, which is the one I saw…
- The guy from Vanderbilt is Jay Cutler, as far as I’m reading he isn’t that good with the long ball, but he’s a leader with mobility and accuracy. But I don’t know if I can ignore the other needs in the depth chart, because Cutler is going to get picked in the 1st Round…
- AW: You’re still talking about Barber starting, was he a difference in Washington? Was the OLine blocking better when he was in the field? Reality is he rushed for 30 yards in 10 carries, you can’t run for much when there’s no room, I along with some other guys in this site have been saying that same thing, now there’s evidence that shows that the OLine once in a while can make room for a big run and as we all saw JJ was the back on the field this time.

Sterling,
Bledsoe’s already taken an NFL team to the Super Bowl. I don’t discount drafting a QB at some point, but that’s far down my list of priorities. Tony Romo has a much stronger arm than he had two years ago. And remember, Romo has received something almost no NFL QB gets these days, which is three years to learn the ropes on the sidelines.
It used to be gospel in the ‘50s and ’60s that you served a three to four year apprenticeship before you were ready. Craig Morton and Roger Staubach were broken in just this way. Almost no young QB gets that anymore. Romo has. Parcells talks glowingly of him. He may be blowing smoke, but I’d give him a real chance before I blew a wad of money and/or picks on a rookie.
As for the big games, I doubt Troy Aikman would have done any better yesterday or in the Giants game with that protection. Troy might have completed a few more throws in each game because he was more accurate, but there’s the greater chance he would have been knocked cold in both games because he’s not the oak tree Bledsoe is.
Jon,
There’s no way Aaron Brooks comes to town. He’s gotten into trouble by freelancing and making horrible mental mistakes. Plus, his salary this year was about 25% greater than Bledsoe’s. He won’t backup anybody, not when he’ll get some starting offers and some big money offers.

What not the great Bledsoe with time he can pick any D apart. Last year Bledsoe fell apart in the big games to get his team in the playoffs. I told everybody that the Bills had a better team last year then we do this year. They had a running game and better WRs and Bledsoe couldn’t get it done at the end. The afc was better last year than the nfc this year. The bills dump him because they thought he couldn’t get them to the next level. I think Bledsoe would be a great back up or a ok qb in a great offense. We have a lot of problem on offense that start with the line but doesn’t stop there.

I don’t know why we’re even talking about a new QB. Sure, Romo and Henson should be dumped and the 2nd and 3rd spots should be staffed by a draft pick and a FA.
QB is about the 20th position that needs to be addressed in order of immediate necessity.
Bledsoe is nearly a Pro Bowl QB, and has 2 more years left.
His problem is that when he starts getting pounded on, he gets skittish.
Solution, hire professionally skilled O Linemen.
Did you see, and you must’ve if you watched the game, THREE MAN FRONTS putting severe pressure on Bledsoe? I’ve never seen anything like that.
I think what needs to be discussed is how Zimmer got SCHOOLED by Williams. Where is the pressure on the QB? Where are the blitzes? Where is Roy Williams? Why is no one tackling? Why does Ware let himself get blocked out of EVERY SINGLE PLAY?
The skins ran at Ware, or threw the ball towards him in the flat, all f*&$ing game long. They ran right maybe three or four times, and i don’t recall how frequently they ran up the middle. But they sure as s(*% ran right over top of Ware for every single one of their big plays. That sissified nancy boy needs to toughen way, way up. He bears more resemblance to a Lauren Taylor than a Lawrence Taylor. He makes NO plays. I suppose there’s a reason kids from mid-major schools don’t go high in the draft.

I understand what you mean about the 3-4 year apprentice thing. Craig Morton became a very good QB and then when Staubach was back from his military commitments and ready to become the man in Dallas Craig Morton went on to take the Broncos to the Super Bowl and play against Staubach. A similar situation happened with Joe Montana and Steve Young. Same thing with Aikman’s early years when Jimmy Johnson brought in Steve Beurlein. The bottom line is in each of those situations there was a first round draft pick or a sure-fire stud QB waiting in the wings and a head coach who was building for the future and had a time horizon beyond 1-2 years.
That is not the case with Romo/Henson and with Parcells. Nobody knows what Romo or Henson can do because they have barely ever taken any snaps in a regular season NFL game. It doesn’t look to me like Parcells is grooming one of them for Bledsoe’s job. Nobody knows how long Parcells is going to want to spend building this team before he retires. My guess, and I admit it is pure speculation, is that if this team is not a legitimate playoff team with the potential to go to a Super Bowl within a year or two max by the end of next season BP will say adios and hit the trail. Then who are we stuck with? Bledsoe with one year left on his contract and two guys who no one knows anything about. My guess is Bledsoe will retire when BP does anyway. That doesn’t give many potential head coaches or the fans much to get excited about.
Staubach was a Heismann trophy winner and if not for his military commitments would have almost certainly been a higher draft pick. Aikman was the #1 pick and we had to go through a 1-15 season to get him. It did take him about 3 years to turn into the QB we were hoping he would be, but at least we could tell he had the talent to get us there.
Bledsoe’s best years are behind him and we are not going anywhere with him. If Romo or Henson could play better I would hope that BP would put them in the game. I think BP has cast his lot with Bledsoe and intends to finish his coaching career with Drew as his QB. Maybe it’s the favoritism thing, I don’t know. All I know is I am disappointed about this game and after watching Bledsoe the future doesn’t seem as optimistic as I had hoped.

AW:
Against Denver, Bledsoe completed 65% of his passes for 232 yards, since that game he has been sacked 15 times, 9 of those sacks were the Tackles fault. The amount of pressures he has taken tends to be larger than the number of sacks, how much times has Bledsoe been sacked in this last 3 games? 30? 40? How much times he’s been hitted? 20? 30? If you think that the performance of a QB can’t be shaked by that type of pressure look at Manning, again I’m making a reference out of Peyton, how did he fared against San Diego? Not much else to say.
by Chandus on Dec 19, 2005 12:36 PM CST reply actions
And about Aikman getting crushed in the game yesterday with this O-Line guarding him you might be right. I recall that Aikman spent the better part of his first 3 years in the league on his backside because our line was so awful then. The difference then was that at least we knew we had a potentially great young QB and once we got an O-Line built we would have a very potent offense.
Now we have to almost entirely rebuild an O-Line to protect an aging veteran who is almost certainly playing his last two seasons as a starter in this league. Big difference. I don’t see how we rebuild this line enough in one offseason to protect Bledsoe enough to get this team to a Super Bowl.
Let’s face it, last year BP rebuilt the defense. This year he is going to have to rebuild the offense in a big way.

Here you go somebody else is saying Bledsoe is the problem so go talk to them ok…. I don’t blame Bledsoe for his play.

Chandus:
I understand your point about the sacks/hurries on Bledsoe, but I seriously hope you aren’t trying to compare Peyton Manning to Drew Bledsoe.
Bledsoe would be a great QB if you are playing a game of 500 and just bombing the ball down the field with no one coming at him. The problem is that in the NFL what makes the difference between QB’s who lead their team to victory and QB’s who lose games for their team is POISE. It’s not Bledsoe’s lack of mobility alone that makes me think he can’t take this team to a Championship, it is his lack of poise and the way he gets so rattled under a pass rush.
Every QB in this league has to deal with a pass rush, that’s the nature of being the man with the ball. It’s the way Bledsoe looks so shaky and flustered that makes me think he doesn’t have it anymore. You look at other pocket passers (not scramblers) and guys like Brady, Rothlisberger, and even Brad Johnson don’t seem to get so freaked out and fall down in the pocket so easily. The O-Line is brutal, but Bledsoe doesn’t have the poise to handle this job.

sterling. i think it’s more bledsoe than anything else.i’ve seen quaterbacks stay in the pocket knowing they are going to get hammered and look down the field ti’llthe last split second.bledsoe on the other hand once he feels the pressure just curls up and almost just runs rifgt into d lineman.

boys all done
Washington had a short field to work with and converted three turn over to 21 points. It doesn’t matter because the offense didn’t come to play at all. For the first time they played bad together.

aw yeah but you talk about how good our defense is.and i don’t see this defense ever really pressuring the opponents quaterback.plus the fact our linebackers stink.i think our defense is overrated.
by BOYS ALL DONE on Dec 19, 2005 3:24 PM CST reply actions
guys if you’ve been watching yhe cowboys for the last 15 years.does anyone remember the 94 n.f.c. championship game.where larry allen was hurt and still managed to play the whole game.well troy aikman was heavily pressured by rickey jackson almost the entire game.but troy kept his composure and poise and never lost focus.we almost pulled it out considering we spotted them 21 points.my point is bledsoe just does not have what it takes other than having a great arm.being a quaterback just isn’t having a great arm.it’ more the mental aspect of the position and toughness.

First of all, I’m tired of everyone trashing Bledsoe. He’s the best Qb we’ve had here in five or six years. Im not saying he’s perfect, but if it weren’t for him, we’d have less wins than we do! Peyton Manning would have played poorly with that protection. As far as the playoffs go,If we get in,the NFC is wide open, I think you all would agree that we outplayed Seattle when we played them!

bigboysfan even if we win out we need help from other teams.as far as bledsoe goes yeah the offensive line sucked.but if you watch him carefully he hides like a hermit crab when pressure is coming. so yes part of it is him.he’s got no balls.

I tired of everyone giving Bledsoe excuses when he plays bad and I’m real tired of people bringing up Peyton when they talking about Bledsoe, there shouldn’t be no comparison. Peyton is a two time MVP its not as simple as his line is better, he is just better than Bledsoe and we would have more wins if he was our qb.

After watching more footage of the game today I will admit that Bledsoe barely had his back foot planted on a 5-step drop before the pass rush was all over him. There is no doubt that the protection was horrible, no one who watched the game will dispute that. Saying that Peyton Manning would have the same outcome is beside the point because Peyton Manning is also one of the best QB’s ever at reading a defense at the line of scrimmage and audibling to a different play when he sees a blitz coming. Besides, Gregg Williams would not have been so inclined to tee off on Peyton Manning because with the possible exception of Michael Vick no other QB in the league commands so much respect from a defensive coordinator. I would bet anything that almost every DC in the league licks his chops at the prospect of game planning against Bledsoe because they know he is so stiff and unathletic.
The point is that at this point I don’t care what Bledsoe has done the rest of his career or if he is better than Vinny or Quincy…we all know this. The question is can he take this team to a Super Bowl in the next two years (which is all he is going to be playing here for, I guarantee that). If he can’t then he is just filling in for the next guy, kind of like Vinny did last year. If he can get it done then I will be the happiest man on earth…and also the most shocked.
I think it’s about time to start thinking about the future. Yesterday just showed me that Bledsoe is barely the present, let alone the future.

All this dialogue demonstrates why winning makes for a better week and a short memory
Just think if you were a player and tried to put this behind you and prepare for next week
Just think gentlemen, 2 more weeks and that might be it

I want to agree 100% with what RedskinRan4Life said about the other guy Bryan. I’m sorry he came on your site and gloated like that.
I’m also glad the rivalry is back and glad that we won in the manner we did. Yes we “stole” the first game this year but I remember alot of games during the “Norv Turner curse” in the 90’s and early 00’s (yes it lingered after he was gone) where we outplayed the Cowboys and they “stole” a few so we’re getting even on that score. I’m happy with the way we played on Sunday and while I think you guys have a better football team than that, I feel that the better team did win this past Sunday.
Not that you’ll pay much attention to a skins’ fan assessment of your team but I agree with many of your assessments in that 1.) your O-line needs to be revamped. 2.) Marion Barber should be your starting RB. The guy can flat out play. 3.) And yes, if you give Bledsoe protection he can beat anyone. However if he’s hurried or “punched in the mouth” he gets rattled, so you’ll need to get another QB. You guys have a good team and its teams like the ones we have that is slowly making the NFC East back into the toughest division in football again. And I also hope that Rivera is ok (But its kind of sad to see that cowboys fan root for Randy Thomas getting injured though – its just a guy with a family and kids ya know?? ).
BTW – Looozeana – something you may have forgotten. The Redskins have just as many NFL Championships (they weren’t called “Superbowls” back then) as Dallas does. Redskins’ Championships in 1937, 1942, 1983, 1987, 1991. So 5 each. We’re tied.
The Cowboys have had 10 Conference Championships/ the Redskins have had 11. Basically even there too. And yes the Cowboys have won more division titles, but thats whats gonna happen when you have consecutive winning seasons like you did (congrats btw)
About the “America’s Team” thing. contrary to some people’s urban myths, it actually resulted from the title of your own team’s highlight film from 1979. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highlight_film.
I’m not stating this to flame you guys, just want you to realize that before you start comparing how many NFL Championship games you’ve won please remember that the NFL did not come into existence when the Cowboys started their franchise. Both franchises have a great history and both have achieved excellence many times in their time in the NFL.
Finally, I know you won’t agree with much I’ve said here so hopefully you can agree on this … Here’s hoping we continue to see the NFC East become the power in the NFL again where it was pretty much the Division winner playing in the Championship.
And again, I’m glad the rivalry is back !!
Anyway, have fun guys, just not when my team is playing yours :)

good points thalphoon – had the other skins guy acted more like you, i probably wouldn’t have unloaded on him in the first place – you’re absolutely right on the championships/superbowls point
one little problem i had with your point about the “America’s Team” comment. You saying that it results from the title of “your own team’s” highlight film..etc..kind of implies that it was someone representing the boys that decided to give them the name…it WAS derived from the name of our highlight film, but as far as my research showed, the guy that produced that film was completely independent of the Cowboys organization (at least from the info i dug up…it was a guy named Bob Ryan who was the editor in chief of NFL films at the time).
What you’re saying was correct, but I just didn’t want people getting the idea that it was some Cowboys employee that came up with the name
here’s that quote from that article:
“Bob Ryan the Vice President and editor-in-chief of NFL Films coined the title "Americaâ€â"¢s Team” in 1979. After preparing and editing the teamâ€â"¢s 1978 season highlight film he had to come up with a title for the film. He was quoted as saying, “After the ’78 season, the Cowboys had just lost a crushing Super Bowl to the Steelers. I wanted to come up with a different twist on their team highlight film. I noticed then, and had noticed earlier, that wherever the Cowboys played, you saw people in the stands with Cowboys jerseys and hats and pennants. Plus, they were always the national game on television.†Drawing upon this inspiration and that of other nationally followed sports teams, such as the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in college football and the Boston Celtics in pro basketball, which Ryan said â€Å"are all Americaâ€â"¢s teams,†he decided to use â€Å"Americaâ€â"¢s Team†as the name of the highlight film.”

anyway it may be trivial, but i think it’s worth mentioning – good luck to your team this year
