Barber and Jones were in the backfield on 3rd down. Wonder if we’ll see that more?

by linus on Dec 24, 2005 1:50 PM CST reply actions
yes we can stay in it but we need to pull off something to take the lead
by jokerz on Dec 24, 2005 1:51 PM CST reply actions
gee, its funny I dont hear anyone craving for Barber today. Clearly Jones ankle is starting to feel alittle better, looks like a different back this week.

A tip of the hat to Sean Payton for overcoming 20 yds of assclown penalties just to get the first down and set up the run.
That was pure bush league crap by Petitti, raking his hand across the CBs eyes right in front of the ref.

Man, I have been waiting for Ware to do this. I have been cringing everytime Merriman gets his props, because I wonder if we did the right thing. Nice to see him kicking kitty tail. Who does he keep beating for those sacks?
by Bluecheese on Dec 24, 2005 2:17 PM CST reply actions
Actually, Smith not only bumped the sideline judge, but obviously said something to him to cause the flag. Smith them bumped the ref and, if my lip-reading is up to par, dropped an F-bomb on him.
That’ll do it…
by Raul on Dec 24, 2005 2:18 PM CST reply actions
yeah smith was kicked out – he picked up the carolina fumble and actually almost got the 1st down – t-new got him 1 yard short – smith got up pissed off and put his hands on the ref – got in his face and said something – ref threw the flag real quick after that – i think it had something to do with whatever came out of smith’s mouth

I’ve thrown in the towel on him. They need another RT.

Petitti needs another year in the weight room and really has to work on his foot work
by Derrick on Dec 24, 2005 2:28 PM CST reply actions
Pettiti is over matched and needs plenty of help. Peppers is a great player up against a rookie. The Cowboys need to keep running.

how nice to have this game hinge on dallas defense getting it done
by linus on Dec 24, 2005 2:29 PM CST reply actions
I wish it were, Linus.
Let’s see, he gives up two sacks today, has a horrible personal foul penalty that almost short circuits the Julius Jones’ TD run and then is offsides on a 3rd and 1 QB sneak that worked.
He might as well put on a Panthers jersey.

yeah, they lost their chance to be in the playoffs the last two weeks.
JJ looks finally healthy.. too bad he gets hurt so easy..
Tucker and Pettiti suck and are the reason why Dallas isn’t going into the playoffs.. They are backups at best, hence why they are in there in the first place.

by Emmitt>Barry on Dec 24, 2005 3:19 PM CST reply actions
BlueCheese:
They were revieweing whether Peppers tipped the ball, as he was saying. If they had seen a tip, then there is no roughing, just like a tipped pass allows a defender to level the receiver without getting a pass interference penalty. There was no conclusive evidence of a tip, so the penalty stood.

I really don’t care about the playoffs, because at this point, we aren’t a playoff team, but I really, REALLY want to win out. Would be great to end on a high note, get a mid-late teens draft pick (remember what BP says: value), come into next year with some momentum.
Give some guys a chance to get some conditioning (Pettiti), get some guys back (Flo), a full season and offseason experience with our 3-4 d, and I think we’ll be fine.
Merry Christmas!

We need Tampa to win, they have the tiebreaker for the division with Carolina. Since we beat Carolina today, we have the tiebreaker over them. Falcons lose, their out. It would be nice to see Minnesota lose this week also. So, Tampa wins the division, and we beat out Carolina for a wildcard.

Not so fast, Linus,
Does Tampa have the tie breaker over Dallas if they both go to 9-6? Dallas has an edge over the Falcons on better conference record. I’m researching it right now, but Dallas MAY and I stress may, leapfrog the Bucs with a Falcons win.

by Derrick on Dec 24, 2005 3:38 PM CST reply actions
Cundiff stunk it up on that first miss but the one with the roughing call was on th o-line. Peppers shucked the blocker and and was 3 yrds deep in the backfield when the ball was kicked.

I’m listening to the Tampa broadcast, and if they tie and Atlanta beats Carolina next week, Tampa wins the division and we beat out both Carolina and Atlanta. Tampa plays NO.

Root for Atlanta. Need them to win. They will lose to Carolina next week. And Tampa will beat NO.
We have a better chance tiebreaker wise with Tampa.

You all do not under stand the Cowboys played piss poor football all year execpt for 3 games. They do not diserve the playoffs.
They need to get their-Oline in order then we might be a contendor.
by MizzouCowboy on Dec 24, 2005 3:53 PM CST reply actions
Linus,
How did Tampa’s win help Dallas? Dallas already had a tie breaker on Atlanta because of better conference record. Tampa’s win makes it harder for Dallas to catch them. I was trying to find common opponents but now its moot. Had the Falcons won Dallas would have tied them in conference record and perhaps passed them in the tie-breaker formula.
Now Atlanta is eliminated. What’s their incentive to help us next week by beating Carolina now?
by Rafael Vela on Dec 24, 2005 3:54 PM CST reply actions

one lose by Minnesota in either of their final 2 games

Is it sacrilige to ask if we really want to make the playoffs where we won’t be able to hide our glaring holes?
Wouldn’t it be better to beat the Rams, finish 10-6 (what an improvement over last year!) and finish on a positive note going into another great draft and free agent session?
by amaglioc on Dec 24, 2005 3:56 PM CST reply actions

by Derrick on Dec 24, 2005 3:57 PM CST reply actions
alright, heres what we got right now
these are the standings from yesterday, but with the records as of right now
1. Seahawks – 12-2
2. Chicago – 10-4
3. New York Giants – 10-5
4. Panthers – 10-5
5. Bucs – 10-5
6. Redskins – 9-6
7. Vikings – 8-6
8. Cowboys – 9-6
9. Falcons – 8-7
As you can see the falcons are out but from what i’m reading, they eliminate the worst team from each conference compared to the other tied with it for the wild card spot, so idk you guys, i guess all we can say is, GO EAGLES!!!
by mrwnt10 on Dec 24, 2005 3:57 PM CST reply actions
minnesotta losing and
carolina washington or carolina losing
thats not bad odds
by linus on Dec 24, 2005 3:57 PM CST reply actions
As I see it, we’re dependent on bad teams for a chance at the playoffs. Either the Eagles have to beat the Redskins or the Falcons, probably without Michael Vick, have to beat Carolina. At least the game is in Atlanta.
10-6 and missing the playoffs won’t be the end of the world. It’s a big turnaround from last year. And judging from current standings, ekeing into the postseason would get us a return trip to either New York or Washington. I don’t think that would be a good afternoon.

Just to let you know I am HUGE Cowboys fan, but they need to be winning games in the first half not the last 30 seconds.
Someone lease explain to me why the Coboys deense is not more aggresive?
I know they have been bet a few times when they blitz, but more often than not it seems to be much more effective.

Three or More Clubs
NOTE: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.
1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
5. Strength of victory.
6. Strength of schedule.
7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9. Best net points in conference games.
10. Best net points in all games.
11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
12. Coin toss.
see, the first step eliminates us RIGHT AWAY, before we even get to compare to the other teams, REDSKINS MUST…. MUST…. MUST LOSE

Raf, and the rest, here is the tiebreaker formula for Wildcard teams.
TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM
If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.
1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker.
2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.
Two Clubs:
1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
4. Strength of victory.
5. Strength of schedule.
6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best net points in conference games.
9. Best net points in all games.
10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
11. Coin toss.
