All Hands on Deck

The Cowboys churned their roster to insure the freshest, deepest, most able squad for the Rams Sunday night. Highlighting the moves was Billy Cundiff's release. Dallas re-signed Shawn Suisham, who kicked for them in mid-season after Jose Cortez was released.

The Cowboys also brought strong safety Tony Dixon back, as insurance for Roy Williams' sprained ankle. Williams insists he will be able to play against the Rams.

The Metroplex scribes seem to have closen ranks behind Parcells, now claiming that nobody has claimed Parcells will retire.

Dallas holds the 19th draft slot today. The Cowboys would pick no higher than 21st if they made the playoffs this weekend and could pick as low as 32nd if they somehow won the Super Bowl.

thats horrible how cundiff used to be so acurate and has turned for the worse. i hope the boys make the playoffs. hell they got a very good chance. and if they play consistently to their potential like they did against the panthers i wouldnt doubt them goin far if they make it.

I was happy when Cundiff returned. Now I’m happy he’s gone. It’s funny how a couple of misses can ruin a kickers popularity. I’m willing to settle for that 32nd pick in the 2006 draft. Good to see Dixon back. I always liked his play.

Hey Cowboy Fans,

Well I have no doubt that you can chalk up the Rams as a win.(49ers swept em). But I hate to rely on others.
The way I see it ( beleive it or not)
Philly has a descent chance at home against the skins. Reid will have his team ready, but the question is are they good enough. One thing we all know is that divisional games are the toughest. I heard Vick is out against Carolina. Is this true ?

Well this week we will all root for the birds to fly high ( not impossible)

GO EAGLES
GO FALCONS

by Jesse NY on Dec 27, 2005 1:12 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Man,
It hurts to root for eagles.. I have to pinch my nose when I do that.. Bujt you gotta do what you gotta do. Go E*^A$#G#L$S.. Now that was’nt that bad..

mrwnt10,
Wasn’t this info posted 15 or so posts ago? LOL

Our kicking game has not been consistent all year. I was hoping Cundiff would provide some consistency, but unfortunately, it was not to be. I just hope Suisham can come through, along with Ladoceour and the oline.

Does anyone know what draft picks we have. I know we have a first, second, third(?), I don’t think we have a fourth, we have a fifth, sixth, and 2 sevenths, right?

by Matt on Dec 27, 2005 2:54 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

well im gonna root for the eagles, i know why, its for a purpose, and im gonna root for the falcons too. that may be our best chance, carolina is inconsistent, and they are playin away

Here is the playoff scenarios for the Cowboys
Dallas can clinch playoff berth with:
1) DAL win + WAS loss or tie, OR
2) DAL win + CAR loss, OR
3) DAL win + TB loss + NYG loss + NYG and DAL clinch strength of victory tiebreaker over TB, OR
4) DAL tie + WAS loss

QUESTION?//
WHAT THE HELL IS A TIE?
THERE ARE NO TIES RIGHT?

by tipp007 on Dec 27, 2005 3:46 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

i think if no one has scored at the end of the first 15 minute overtime period then it goes in the books as a tie

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 27, 2005 3:50 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

What is a tie? NFL Digest of Rules:

Sudden Death
“In … regular season games there shall be a maximum of 15 minutes of sudden death…. If there is no score in the 15 minutes, the game shall end in a tie.”

Loozeeana Cowboy is correct. No score in 15 min = a tie.

You want to hear something encoureging… Here is what Jim Mora, Atlanta Coach said:

“It’s more about winning a game, having a winning season, giving our fans two back-to-back winning seasons, something they haven’t had in 40 years,” said Falcons head coach Jim Mora, whose team has never put together consecutive winning seasons since its inception in 1966. “That motivates us more than the spitefulness or vengefulness of knocking Carolina out of the playoffs. That’s on the second layer. The first layer is to win a game. That’s our main motivation.”

i like the sound of that – i got a kick out of the way he phrased that – when speaking of the spitefulness / vengefulness angle…he says that’s on the “second” layer – so beating carolina just to be mean IS valid…it’s just not their #1 reason : ) lol good stuff

these espn/nfl network guys cannot seem to shut up about the cowboys/panthers game and how the panthers got jilted on the smith ejection / peppers supposed kick block….it’s all i can do not to sling a brick thru my TV – i’m seriously thinking about getting some of these guys emails and telling them to shut the hell up already

by Loozeeana_Cowboy on Dec 27, 2005 10:12 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Loozeeana Cowboy, as I don’t watch the pre and post game ‘analysis’ could you tell me if the network guys have a view of the supposed ball touching that is indisputable. I’ve rerun all the game videos and cannot tell if the ball was touched. Therefor it wasn’t. Are the network guys in possession of proof or are they just BSing as usual.

Thanks for the great blog.
Too complicated and costly to get on the official Cowboys blog. Thanks for your passion for the game.
Solutions to win on the OFF line:
1. Punch def lineman. We are catching. Work on hands inside. Whomever gets hands indside wins (especially on bull rushes. Punch bisceps to stop uppercut and swim move. Reggie would have been stopped more often if an O-lineman would have punched his biscep and stopped the greatest move ever. Important to remember to change the timeing of your punch. I have seen someone simply knock hands down and rush by. Keep head up and arms extended and slide always.
2. Get a split at off. tackle. Make him run upfield, but know the 5 step and 7 step dropbacks (where your QB likes to set up). Again, attack anthing inside with your elbow out to catch any corresponding moves.
3. No false steps i.e. no steps up field with the inside foot which creates a lane to the QB. Keep shoulders parallel as long as possible. Even if they run a game you can go man even though it seems the cowboys go zone and handle the you/me game well with zone. If I am the opposing team, I am going with my speed rushers i.e. Haley. Get splits——go man and do not get picked off by the def. tackle. Even if you run a draw you can cut off the DE and the DT circles himself out of the play. Go from the up postion and watch for take-its even though the Ends should also have containment but Bledsoe’s scrambling ability does not necesarily keep anyone honest. If anyone goes inside drive him hard to prevent penetration and screw up the games—the Def linemen will pick themselves.
4. Work on pulling guards -too many false steps although it is coaching technique. Pull with inside foot in place. Gives seconds—work on rip with outside arm.
5. Cut more. Prevent batted balls and slow the defender’s speed rush more especially on 79s/80s quick pass. Cut at the end of plays more and cut and roll at screens more. The defenders do not pay your rent. Let them think. You are the attacker. Be a mean _. No one thanks you as an offensive linemen. Controlled fury at it’s best.

The way I see it the Panther players were not using their heads on that FG attempt. All Dallas was trying to do was tie. As Cundiff was a maybe at best, the Panthers were nuts to play for a block and risk a roughing or running into kicker penalty. They would have had little choice if the kick were for a win but it wasn’t. It’s another instance of players (maybe the coaches called for the block attempt) not using good judgement when the game is on the line. They play football two or three years in Pop Warner, three years of highschool, four years of college and then go on to play professional football. After all that many of them still do not know how to play the game. Their athletic ability trumps the brain at all the wrong times. Having smart players is really as important as having the best athletes. The Panthers found that out against Dallas.

mlf -
as for the sports announcers having proof of the ‘touch’ – i can say this much – they have no proof in addition to that same old clip that’s being shown everywhere – the shot from behind cundiff and a little to the right of him….if anything, it looks to me like there’s more chance that the ball grazed the OTHER panthers player – not Peppers – but honestly i don’t believe there’s anything that clearly shows it touched either one of them….so as far as their hard core proof –
they show the actual kick clip for like 2 seconds, followed by like 15-20 seconds of julius peppers touching his fingers (“i hit the ball! i hit the ball!”) and the carolina coach touching HIS fingers (“he hit the ball! he hit the ball!”) and whining and crying about it – they all make me friggin’ sick and i hope somehow they get wind of this blog so they’ll KNOW they make me sick : )

i take the hype stuff too serious i know

Well, I’m going into hibernation until game time, Cowboys/Rams, on Sunday night. I won’t watch the other pivotal games so I won’t know if the Cowboys game will be played for a playoff birth or not until I tune in. If the Cowboys are eliminated then I’ll watch my team go for their tenth win and be satisfied if they get it. If they are still in the hunt I will be more than satisfied. Go Cowboys!!!!!

mlf – sounds like a pretty good plan – but speaking for myself i’m gonna’ paint a big friggin’ black Falcon on my face if i have to…gonna pull out every bit of Anti-Carolina voo-doo i can think of and just hope i can jinx ’em to lose : )

i won’t be able to resist watching those games – GO BOYZ! (and while i’m at it go Eagles, Falcons, Raiders, Saints)

Atlanta’s best CB, Hall will nt be playing.. Ouch.. I hope his replacement plays game of his life.
Since Atlanta has beaten the pANTERS 9-1 AT HOME… SO YOU FIGURE THEY KNOW HOW TO PLAY THEM.. VIC NOT PLAYING CONCERNS ME..However, Vic has been less than steller recently and his reploacement is one heck of QB.. Hope he playes game of his life too.

man i’m going on vacation to the dominican republic, but i’ll take that complicated scenarios thing you guys got, idk if its any better than the regular ones but whatever

by mrwnt10 on Dec 28, 2005 12:42 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

The most important thing is to beat the Rams. The other dominos will fall on their own. Since the Cowboys play after those games are decided, their main focus has to be on winning and finishing 10-6.

As to those who say they would rather not make the playoffs because they are so certain the Cowboys will be bounced out early, I strongly disagree. First, you never know what will happen in the playoffs. Secondly, a lot of these players haven’t played a playoff game yet in their career, and the experience will be good for them and something to build off of.

I still remember the (then) young Cowboys team going to the playoffs the year before they won their first Super Bowl of the 90’s. They lost to Detroit, but I really believe the experience helped them grow as a team and as individual players. In many ways that next season’s playoffs would have been a lot tougher if they hadn’t experienced what they did a year earlier.
