Palmer Passes, Joins Payton

Chris Palmer has moved on from Dallas, securing the OC spot with new Saints coach Sean Payton.

Payton completed the sale in record time, since Palmer was in Dallas earlier this week to interview for Payton's old job and no talks with New Orleans had been mentioned. Palmer had talked to the Jets about a job prior to visiting Valley Ranch.

I wonder if the Saints were offering him more money or play calling duties.

Saints, Texans, Browns, Early Jags, early 90’s Pats…maybe he is attracted to working with rebuilding efforts more than established ones? Perhaps he would rather work with young guys like Payton and Capers than go back to work for his old mentor? Maybe he wants to work with a young QB like Leinart or Young instead of Bledsoe?

I don’t view this as a loss or a snub at all. I’m as ambivalent about it as I am about Payton and Gibbs. This is a bit more surprising to me though because I thought he was a lock for the job.

I just think its a bettr situation for Palmer if he goes to New Orleans as if Bill leaves after this year which alot of people think, the next head coach will surely clean house, so atleast in New Orleans, Palmer will have a new system and new head coaches philosphy to work with and some job security for a few years.

I believe that ESPN chose the panel of 11 judges for this if you are looking at who to complain to. Personally I don’t let this stuff bother me anymore, I would rather see the Cowboys give all of them headaches by winning the Super Bowl next season. Let the Cowboys’ play on the field do the talking, and let these historians keep rewriting it by praising their heroes from other teams. The 5 victories and 8 appearances speak for themselves.

I doubt if Aikman or Staubach are losing any sleep over this.

I gave up long ago listening to the pundits. No pre-game, No post-game, No Inside the NFL, No ESPN. I simply don’t give a hoot about their reporting or their opinions. I just watch the games and read a bit on the net. Honestly, I’d rather read your opinions than theirs.

Sterling and others,

I have a saved newspaper article with the headline: Dallas is Done!!!! .. It was written before the 1995 season .. Hey didn’t we win the Super Bowl that year? Ah yes the sweet reward of saving some idiot’s column.

The 90’s Cowboys teams never get their due respect. They had players like Jimmy Smith, Jim Jones, Kevin Gogan, etc. that were back ups for those teams, who went onto other teams and made the Pro Bowl. Jimmy Johnson rotated the entire defensive line at times. Leon Lett, Tony Tolbert, Jim Jeffcoat, and Chad Hennings made up their 2nd unit!! In two straight playoffs, their closest game was 10 points. .. To be real about it, those Cowboys teams were the first teams to dominate on both sides of the ball. In 1991 they were the first team to sport the NFL’s top rusher and top receiver (yards) in one season. Then the very next year, Dallas led the league in defense, and again had the rushing champion!! They blew teams away, and the voters are just jealous of our rich tradition of …. WINNING SUPER BOWLS!!!!! 90’s Cowboys = The Best Team Ever .. How ’bout them Cowboys!! .. Who gives a shit what the voters have to say .. 5 Super Bowl Championships, 8 NFC Championships, 20 straight winning seasons .. enough said!

I just cant figure out why so many people simply hate the cowboys. I live in panther country and i cant even go to dinner without catching crap about the cowboys. On the local sports radio station, they spend as much time ripping the cowboys as they do talking about the panthers.I guess its just envy…..

A Parcell’s guy (Palmer), who turns down a chance to re-up with the master? Is BP losing his luster? Did we get him on the downslope of his abilities? I’d like to think not.

About all the snubs of Cowboys for all-star teams, HOF etc: STERLING SAID IT ALL!

MLF,
I meant to add in the previous post that you are right on. The average blogger here delivers far more insight than the fluff and drivel delivered by all the pundits of any media genre.

manster:

I watched the “Ultimate Super Bowl 40 Man Roster” show last night and what I saw was that Aikman made the top 3 or 4. They showed other QBs, such as Joe Namath, Phil Simms, Doug Williams, Steve Young and John Elway. They then went to on to name the two QBs with 3 Super Bowl rings – Aikman and Tom Brady. The 2 QBs were Bradshaw (backup) and Montana (starter).

Spags’ article was written before the airing so I’m not sure what he’s talking about …

Palmer went to New Orleans cuz he figured the real estate deals there were better than Dallas…….buy low and sell high. Anybody willing to go live in NO now will be financially rewarded once it is fully recovered…..just a thought.

HOW MANY COWBOYS MADE IT ON THE LIST.ALSO,WE ARE HATED THE SAME WAY THE YANKEES ARE HATED AND WHAT IT COMES DOWN TO IS ENVY AND I SAY F—K THEM.THANK GOD IM A COWBOY

It’s interesting to note that Palmer hasn’t signed anything with New Orleans and that they already signed Doug Marrone (previously with the Jets) as OCoordinator and OLine Coach. Is that an indicative that Parcells still has the reigns?

Guys, I was also upset that Roger Staubach didn’t get his due respect when they were naming the 40 man SB roster, and Michael Irvin never got on the short list. However, when Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith were not one of the top three RBs, or even on the short list, I was mad!

Emmitt finally making it on the fan ballot as the 40th man made me very happy, but how in the world didn’t they even mention ANY of the Cowboys’ monster o-line of the ’90s?

Rayfield Wright getting on the short list was consolation, but it worries me that he could also miss the cut come HOF time again. I sure hope not.

I was really upset until I realized that only Pittsburgh had more players on the roster with 8, than our Cowboys with 7.

It was awesome to see Randy White and Bob Lilly named to the team and FINALLY, Charlie Waters, one of my all-time favorite Cowboys, is getting some respect! After playing in the shadow of Cliff Harris all those years, he starts alongside Ronnie Lott.

Charles Haley as the other DE, opposite LC Greenwood was also awesome, but then again he was a terror! Besides, how can you vote against the only guy with 5 SB rings?

Larry Brown? That was the surprise Cowboy to make it on the roster! Larry did deserve it, but man, look at the HOF corners he beat out! He was in the right place when it counted most, and like he said, “I still had to catch the ball, even if they were thrown at me!” Yeah, he could have done a Jackie Smith and dropped them. Sorry Jackie, that was a bad one. Even Staubach admits he threw it a little behind.

Our Doomsday was well represented, and it’s no surprise that Pittsburgh, Dallas and Miami dominated the defensive selections.

Jay Novacek’s selection was also refreshing. Funny, though that only he and Emmitt made the list on offense, and Emmitt was through the fan voting.

So, despite all those great Cowboys who played in the SB, only Jay Novacek gets the nod from the panel. Wow! Rayfield Wright should have been there with him.

No Chuck Howley? Come on! He’s the ONLY MVP from the LOSING team, ever, and he’s not on the list?

Overall, I am pleased that 7 Cowboys made the list, so the bias isn’t as bad as on the HOF panel. They can set it straight by voting Rayfield Wright and Troy Aikman, but I won’t be holding my breath.

To truly set things straight, “Bullet Bob” Hayes should be in the HOF. He revolutionized the passing game, and should be honored for it.
