At least he didn’t go to any of our division rivals. He’ll be missed.

He sure wasn’t on the market for long. It makes you wonder if they even tried to shop him for draft picks. I don’t recall seeing too many other cap casualties getting signed this quickly. It just makes me wonder, that’s all.

Yeah so much for trading him to the Rams so we could move up in the draft.
I think they should of coughed up the 1.5 roster bonus signed him and traded him I mean whats a 2nd round pick cost. Is 1.5M in JJ’s world to much?

I was a glover fan, I’m sure the locker room prescence her brought to the locker room willl be missed. But, going young was key, wish him luck, but at his age I wondered why he was so quick to sign with the rams, I thought he wanted to go to a contender, they just released Issacc Bruce, so it kind of sho0cks me to see him go so fast.

well a FA LB just got signed. The 49er’s just resigned LB Derek Smith.

Anytime a player gets a cap charge as high as Glovers was, every team knows he’s a marked man and most probably to be cut.Especially in times like these with the CBA up in the air….

huh – I’m confused. I thought the free agency period doesn’t start til Wed night. How can they sign him Monday?
by Len on Mar 6, 2006 9:19 PM CST reply actions
I mean, if the Rams can sign Glover, who was cut, then what’s stopping the another team (such as the Cowboys) from signing Sowell or Fabini, who were also cut?

Len,
Good question. I’ve wondered that myself. Can anyone enlighten us on this. Thanks!
by Blitzkreig on Mar 6, 2006 9:30 PM CST reply actions
If a player is cut, he may sign immediately.
However, most are under contract until the end of the fiscal year. Those scheduled for FA don’t officially become FAs until the new year.
This allows teams to attempt to resign their guys prior to the FA period.

Then why don’t we hear more of this? Assuming Glover wasn’t under contract until the end of the fiscal year, was this unusual?
by Len on Mar 6, 2006 9:41 PM CST reply actions
He was cut. He was under contract for a couple of more years.
Until he was cut, he was off limits. Just like most FA to be’s
by Fighter15 on Mar 6, 2006 9:45 PM CST reply actions
But that still doesn’t answer my question. Sowell was cut. He was under contract until 2009. How is that different? Trying to understand here.
by Len on Mar 6, 2006 9:57 PM CST reply actions
Len,
Maybe the Cowboys won’t pursue Sowell. That would explain it.
by Rafael Vela on Mar 6, 2006 9:59 PM CST reply actions
In Sowell’s case, maybe so. I understand that some players want to test the waters, but so many sign right after midnight, so to speak. Why wait til the deadline if you know the team you want to go to and you can sign early? I’m just surprised we’re not hearing of more signings.

3 words why…Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Most, if not all, are staying put until they can figure out what rules apply.
In Glover’s case, they had the room and it was only a 3-year deal, thus no issues.
One interesting twist is that after a player is cut, the previous team can’t resign him until 6 weeks or a new fiscal year begins, whichever comes first.
by Fighter15 on Mar 6, 2006 10:12 PM CST reply actions
Oh I get it. Traditionally, teams would cut players right before March 1 and new teams would sign them a few hours later. This is just screwy this year because of the delays. Thanks for answering my question.

Everyone who thought you could get something for Glover in trade raise your hand?
by Cash on Mar 6, 2006 10:29 PM CST reply actions
Just curious, wouldn’t Glover have had to clear waivers if he was cut before the fiscal year ended?
by Impatient on Mar 6, 2006 10:48 PM CST reply actions
Impatient,
According to Mike Florio, at ProFootballTalk.com, veteran players are not subject to waivers, except in the period from the trade deadline (sometime in October) to the Super Bowl. Consider the source, but that was what he wrote.
I’m not sure of the termination date, myself. I can’t remember if Bledsoe had to pass through waivers last year before we signed him. I do remember (and I was able to verify this with a simple internet search) that we signed him well before the start of the new fiscal year.
