Hutchinson signs Vikes offer sheet 49 MILLION 7 years… No way Seattle can match that so I say done deal

by Impatient on Mar 12, 2006 3:17 PM CST reply actions

Can we fire a salvo towards Valley Ranch, because they seem to be discussing terms of surrender.

by Derrick on Mar 12, 2006 3:18 PM CST reply actions

why are sitting on stand by lets get someone signed

by Kerrycowboy on Mar 12, 2006 3:23 PM CST reply actions

Maybe JJ and BP have decided they do not want to compete with teams willing to bust the cap like with Hutchinson and Bentley. If they let these teams exhaust their cap funds on admittedly elite players, then they will be able to come in and feast on middle tier players that will give us depth. Could also be that they want to use some of that cap money to strike long term deals with Roy, Newman and Witten.

by Swidge on Mar 12, 2006 3:29 PM CST reply actions

Are the Cowboys going to make a move or not. They said they were ready for FA. I wonder. TO is still out there. Maybe that’s the big bang.

by mlf on Mar 12, 2006 3:29 PM CST reply actions

if to is the big bang that will suck s bad as we need oline man and a kicker and safety

by Kerrycowboy on Mar 12, 2006 3:32 PM CST reply actions

Swidge, if that’s the strategy I’m for it to a point. I’d still like to see a LT and/or RT in the mix.

by mlf on Mar 12, 2006 3:32 PM CST reply actions

C’mon guys, did you really think the Boys would be going after James, Witherspoon, Randle El or Hutchinson?

There is plenty of action going on at Valley Ranch, with bringing in players like Adoyele, and there are talks with agents that we won’t find out about. BP likes to keep all his business under wraps, so we probably won’t hear about anything that isn’t a done deal (I think Adoyele is going to be a Cowboy).

Even though I know the Boys are working on it, I agree: I would love to see more signings and big names headed our way, but look at last year. The one guy that was the best for us was Henry before his injury, and he was the unexpected one. BP is such a great evaluator of talent, so I trust he is going to go out there and get the best people for the job.

And frankly, I’d rather we didn’t go out there and spend tons and tons of money on guys who might end up busts (verdict is still out on Rivera)

by David-CT on Mar 12, 2006 3:33 PM CST reply actions

Vinatieri will be the big bang…. not T.O.

by Cuervo5012 on Mar 12, 2006 3:33 PM CST reply actions

Kerrycowboy, Agreed!

by mlf on Mar 12, 2006 3:33 PM CST reply actions

Hehe, oh man. That was a really really drawn out way of saying:

If the right guy is out there, BP will find him and he will be in a Cowboys uniform next year.

by David-CT on Mar 12, 2006 3:35 PM CST reply actions

T.O would be a suicide bomber

by Derrick on Mar 12, 2006 3:38 PM CST reply actions

David-CT, Witherspoon? Maybe, but not the other two. Moote now anyway. I am expecting too much too soon I guess. It’s just that everytime I log on I expect to see some big news from Valley Ranch. I should be more patient and trust in BP and Jerry.

by mlf on Mar 12, 2006 3:39 PM CST reply actions

I agree about wishing to hear some news, but i don’t think the lack of news means a lack of action.

mlf:

Witherspoon isn’t the type of guy to fit in our offense, and its not because he’s only about 235. He’s all about speed and having room to flow to the ball. He’s a much better fit for the 4-3. I’m not saying he’s not good or that he couldn’t have some success in Dallas, but I think there are better and more economical options.

A guy like Adoyele, who is more of a take-on-and-shed-the-blocker type of guy who played DE in college would fit better, and will be a lot cheaper.

That said, I really like Witherspoon and think he’s very good. If we were running a 4-3 defense I would want him.

by David-CT on Mar 12, 2006 3:43 PM CST reply actions

i not one to judge bp but his record at draft oline help since he has been a cowboys sucks

by Kerrycowboy on Mar 12, 2006 3:45 PM CST reply actions

If we could get HOPE, Adeoyele, Ashworth and Vinateri, I’d be happy.

by Derrick on Mar 12, 2006 3:47 PM CST reply actions

derrick you said it that would work forme

by Kerrycowboy on Mar 12, 2006 3:51 PM CST reply actions

The Bonehead Signing of the Offseason Award goes to…..

The Washington Redkins!!

Randle-El?? Are you kidding me?? Larry Brown in a WR uniform??

Are they going to go to a run n shoot offense now?

They just paid top dollar for a WR with middle of the pack ability. I think Brandon Lloyd is a better WR than Randle-El.

Now…let’s hope the Cowboys don’t steal the award back by signing the T.eam O.bliterator, when they don’t even need a new aging WR, especially one a year older than TG, and only 16 months younger than Keyshawn.

by Sterling on Mar 12, 2006 3:56 PM CST reply actions

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the New York Giants have signed free agent LB LaVar Arrington(Redskins). Terms of the deal were not disclosed

by cleverusername on Mar 12, 2006 3:57 PM CST reply actions

I think we will get Hope, Vineteri, Ashworth, and McGinest. Thats a good offseason along with a good draft points to a great future.

HOW THE HELL DO THE REDSKINS DO THIS?? I thought they were going to be playing 20 rookies, how the hell do they afford the best WR and another big name WR? The NFL needs to look into this, something sounds fishy as hell or the Wide Recievers are stupid enough to put all the money later in the contract so the Deadskins can just release them.

by lou c on Mar 12, 2006 3:59 PM CST reply actions

no to please just a kicker saftey one oline please

by Kerrycowboy on Mar 12, 2006 4:00 PM CST reply actions

It’s going to be funny to see the differences in the mock drafts in the next week or so.

lou c:

They can sign these guys, but they might have to make more cuts before they send the new signings contracts to the league office to be ratified. Plus, the league can reject any contract that puts them over the cap.

Rafael:

While we wait on the Cowboys to make a few moves, I’m happy to see Edgerrin James going to the Cardinals. He is 21st in rushing yards in NFL history with 9226 and would be the most likely of anyone in sight to surpass Emmitt’s 18335. It does not look like that will happen now with him going to the Cards. I don’t think Tomlinson can hold up in the NFL for the 13+ years needed to pass Emmitt. My hope has been, as just the 7th all-time NFL rushing leader, Emmitt could wear that crown for at least 15 years and surely for at least a few years after being inducted into the PFHOF four years from now.

by Scooter on Mar 12, 2006 4:03 PM CST reply actions

I know the Giants were getting Arrington, when he goes down the Giants will be in the same position as last year lol. I still like what their doing over the Eagles and Deadskins tho.

by lou c on Mar 12, 2006 4:03 PM CST reply actions

I hope we at least bring in McGinest and find out how much he will cost before we think about signing Adoyele. Whoever said youth is overrated would be right here, you dont take a guy over another guy with better stats all way round just because of age. I dont see much of a difference between him and Fujita, hopefully Im wrong but i still want McGinest.

by lou c on Mar 12, 2006 4:07 PM CST reply actions

LOL Randel-El turns down a 6 year, 18 million dollar contract with the Bears, and then the Redskins offer him a 6 year, 31 million contract with 10 mil signing bonus? Has Dan Synder lost it?

by lou c on Mar 12, 2006 4:09 PM CST reply actions

raf Or anyone Is ayodele If misspelled sorry any better then fujita?

by mike on Mar 12, 2006 4:11 PM CST reply actions

The Ravens resigned Bart Scott and signed DT Justin Bannon.

The Eagles look like they will sign Darren Howard.

by lou c on Mar 12, 2006 4:15 PM CST reply actions

Lou C:

I don’t understand the salary cap at all, even before the new CBA. I live in the D.C. area and today’s Washington Post is praising little Danny Boy Snyder for his smarts in dealing with the salary cap by promising huge signing bonuses to players and then reneging (and apparently getting away with it) with Lavar Arrington. Somehow or another the Redskins got rid of $4 million of signing bonus in a negotiation. I don’t understand that. Why are we always talking about pro-rated signing bonuses and how much the cap hit will be when we release a player like Glover and (heaven forbid) Larry Allen? The NFL needs to investigate this, though I know they won’t.

by Scooter on Mar 12, 2006 4:17 PM CST reply actions

Man the Rams are rebuilding their D in one off-season. They’ve picked up Glover, Witherspoon and Chavous. That will be interesting to watch.

by Len on Mar 12, 2006 4:18 PM CST reply actions

I am on the getting TO side… As much as it pains me with his Star dance, But… I think he wants to be here, I think being benched last year has really woke that kid up. Notice how he has been on his best behavior since the Rosenhaus fiasco. He didnt even feel the need to address Donavan when he went off with no one leading him in questions that will get him in a heap of trouble.

AND his pal Michael Irvin is here, whom I like as well, and think would be a good football influence for TO. (I know I’m gonna get murdered in here for saying that). No way Michael allows TO to come into what is still his house and make a fool of his team. He would have been much more assertive with TO in his advice to him while he was with the iggles, except I think Mike might have inflamed that situation subconsciously out of spite. His career did end in Philly and was spit upon when no one knew if he was paralyzed.

Bring him in and give the kid his LAST chance in the league. He knows it and so does everyone else. I’ll take the guy who is fighting for his life on my team any day, and TO has been beaten to within an inch of his life.

I appreciate the other side; this is only my opinion…

by Impatient on Mar 12, 2006 4:19 PM CST reply actions

If Chris Hope signs elsewhere we may need TO, our D cant stop the big pass and thats all Washington is going to do now along with dumping it to Cooley.

What a crazy day of signings:

Good for E.J., he deserved to get some love somewhere.

Minnesota is going nuts…can anyone explain to me why the Seahawks only tagged Hutchinson with a transition marker and not the franchise tag?

I don’t know what to say about the Skins. On one side, I say they are up to their usual bad strategy of giving away draft picks and overpaying for talent. At the same time, their offense is looking pretty solid with Moss, Patten, Randal El, Lloyd, Cooley, and Portis. Makes me almost want the Cowboys to go out and sign T.O.

Another note on the Skins…someone has to look into their books. They spend this kind of money every year and it’s like they never run into cap trouble. I live in DC and feel that I know their business pretty well and even I’m surprised.

Good for Arrington; he got his wish to stay in the NFC East. I hope he comes back to bite the Skins.

I guess the good thing about all those signings is that the Cowboys were never really linked to any of them except maybe Randal El.

by Sam on Mar 12, 2006 4:25 PM CST reply actions

and a bad one i think to will never change

by Kerrycowboy on Mar 12, 2006 4:28 PM CST reply actions

I also agree on signing TO. I don’t think he will cause any distractions. I believe he would be on his best behavior. TO realizes that acting the way he did last season caused him to lose a lot of money so he will stay quiet and just play hard. He’s never had a problem with playing hard. If we sign him, an OT & FS, plus the draft, we can contend for the Super Bowl.

by dt72 on Mar 12, 2006 4:28 PM CST reply actions

My first post on the board but I read this board everyday. Been a Cowboy fan for 35 years and this was one year I thought Dallas would make the big push for a 9th SB but it looks like Dallas will hope to go .500 again. I live in Virginia so all I hear is how Washington is on their way to the big game. I don’t see it with Brunnel as QB but he sure knows how to smack us around. I thought sure we would go after Lt and FS in FA. But to grab a guy who can play end, guard and tackle(Sit on the end of the bench guard the water bucket and tackle anyone who goes near it.) is not my idea of being ready for free agency as JJ kept saying. If we were anymore ready we would be looking over the AFL cuts. We let Longwell get away and theres no way we get A.V. Mr. Clutch. And I can’t see T.O. wanting to play for Parcells. Plus this guy crapped on our STAR. He will not get us to the big game without a line to protect Bledsoe or a running game that only get big gains on draws. Another year of saying if we had made a couple field goals we would be in or if Randal el hadn’t beat our FS we would of beat washington. Oh I believe we will sign those old jets and patriots. And watch them breakdown about game 7 or 8. And watch our season slip away again. We need good not old players. One more point on Kosier if he is so good why didn’t the Lions try to re-sign him with their horrible o-line. I hope I’m wrong but we’ll wait and see.

by seabourne on Mar 12, 2006 4:30 PM CST reply actions

seabourne,
As many as eight teams were looking at Kosier, just because he’s not a well known name, that doesn’t make him a bench warmer. Remember last year, everyone wanted fred smoot, and when we sign Henry, everyone was saying, who the hell is that guy, he’s a second rate corner, well, after we watched him shut down recievers and being physical with them, I think we all agree, Bill knew what he was getting in Henry. If Bill likes Kosier and made him a priority on day one of free agency, I think he’s on to someone, we’ll have to all wait and see.

by Derrick on Mar 12, 2006 4:36 PM CST reply actions

seabourne;

hold your horses there in redskinland…

i have the feeling we still might see ayodele/mcginnest, hope/coleman, vinaterri and another ol…and maybe…(gulp)t.o.

it is now a ridicously over-inflated seller’s market. come mon., tues., weds. morn, there will be plenty of quality players signing reasonable (relatively speaking) contracts.

contrary to seeming popular opinion, no one is sleeping at valley ranch…

by b_drum_3 on Mar 12, 2006 4:40 PM CST reply actions

Derrick,

The Ranch Report is again teasing that Dallas may have signed a TE. It has to be Ryan Hannam, since he’s the only guy they interviewed.

It send me back to the ratings and made me laugh, since I wrote that Dallas would get a TE early with Campbell leaving.

They are, but a guy from the bottom quartile of Scouts Inc.’s list, not the three guys I profiled at the top.

Which tells me a very important lesson, that we probably all should heed:

Don’t trust Scouts Inc.s’ ratings.

They had Anthony Henry rated much lower last year too, which is why I talked about sleeper people who are not on the lists.

It seems Dallas is going ALL sleeper this year. I can handle that, so long as they don’t go too long shot on a kicker.

Blitzkreig and Mike
As i posted on the last article here goes again.
Honestly there really isnâ€â"¢t much of a difference in players. The one thing that stands out from each other is their playmaking ability. Although we saw Fujita force a fumble on Trent Green this past year he is not known for making lots of plays. He is a very solid player who still has alot of upside. Now Ayodele on the other hand makes plenty of plays. He forces more fumbles and has more INTâ€â"¢s than Fujita. Alot of scouts say that Ayodele has such a big POP in his hits that he causes alot of fumbles. He has 8 FF compared to Fujitaâ€â"¢s 3. 3 INTâ€â"¢s to Fujitaâ€â"¢s 1. Yes Fujita has more sacks but that is also because when he was with the Chiefs they blitz him a whole lot. Ayodele hasnâ€â"¢t been utilized like he should. Coming out of college scouts had him better suited to play OLB in the 3-4 than OLB in the 4-3 since he was a DE in college. All in all you are probably getting the same player with a change of scenery. Sometimes that is good. I just know that Fujita used to be the starting OLB for the worst Defense in the league for 2 straight years and Ayodele has started for a top 10 top 5 and i believe top 1 or 2 defense since heâ€â"¢s been in the league. I think there is a reason why his defense was ranked so high and he has to be part of the reason. Personally I would love to keep both of them but i just like Ayodele better. I have also been one of the few supporters of Fujita in the past and i would be happy if he stayed in Big D because i think he has the potential to be very solid as our starting OLB. Hope this answers your question.

big bang is from the ranch report

by mike on Mar 12, 2006 5:15 PM CST reply actions

Any TE we sign is going to be a stop gap…I see the Cowboys using the draft as a way to fill that need. I wouldn’t be surprised if they used the #1 pick on a TE.

by Sam on Mar 12, 2006 5:15 PM CST reply actions

It seems like I’m in the minority on this website with this opinion, but I’ll say it again: Mr. Owens should never be a Cowboy.

  1. He disrespected our star and I can never root for him and I (respectfully) don’t understand how any Cowboys fan could.
  1. He has proven to be a locker room cancer in SF and Philly. Anyone suggesting he will magically change once he puts on a Cowboys uniform is most likely looking at his talent (which is unquestionable) and imagining him scoring all those touchdowns for the Cowboys while overlooking his shortcomings as a member of the team.

I love the Cowboys and I know that we can win without him.

by drjeff on Mar 12, 2006 5:18 PM CST reply actions

If we sign T.O. I really think we should go after Ryan Leaf!! They are both ready for A BIG BREAKOUT YEAR!!
While we’re at it might as well pickup Marcus Vick. He’ll be the steal of the draft and everyone knows with a fatherly coach like BP he’ll be fine!
LOL

by gunnerklein on Mar 12, 2006 5:25 PM CST reply actions

lol nice gunnerklein… Good point, but Marcus Vick, could we use him??? hmm j/k But I wonder how many people would be crying about us not having a mobile quarterback.

Oh yeah.. To quote Jerry “If TO wants to come here we’ll build him a hotel on that star…”

Besisdes George Teague Knocked Terrell’s ass off that star so we’re even. That and Roy breakin his leg.

by Impatient on Mar 12, 2006 5:37 PM CST reply actions

There should be a statue or some sort of tribute to George Teague for protecting that star. I love players with that kind of heart.

by Scooter on Mar 12, 2006 5:49 PM CST reply actions

I do have to admit, The more people bring up the T.O. Idea, the more I get used to it. I didn’t say I’m for it, but I won’t break down in tears thanks to his propaganda machine working this BLOG.
I mean a month ago only a few people were into TO now it’s over 75% maybe.

by gunnerklein on Mar 12, 2006 5:50 PM CST reply actions

It seemed as if he retired a little premature. I thought he was a pretty good safety and man could he hit. I guess once the team signed Roy, he was expendable. The least the team could do would be to honor his name by not signing T.O.

by Sam on Mar 12, 2006 5:52 PM CST reply actions

sorry guys, this is a little off any subject, but my 3 year old wants to type something so I’m going to ask him a question and have him type the answer…

Who’s the best?

My son’s response –
Cowboys

by Blitzkreig on Mar 12, 2006 5:52 PM CST reply actions

He’s only 3 and a half, but can already read and he wanted to type the Cowboys and click “Spike it”. Gotta love smart kids!!!

With all the CBs available, maybe sign a good back-up? Remember the last few years when our starting CB went down, other teams went after our rookies and suceeded on big plays.

Maybe we should get Ike Taylor, he’s an agressive corner and somewhat shut down if you saw him agianst chad johnson.
