Big Bang Indeed Coming?

Promoted from the threads

Raul passes on an e-mail from a Boston-area fan who claims WEEI, the giantBoston sports radio station, is saying the Cowboys are close to a deal with K Adam Vinatieri.

This is unconfirmed. We'll try to get more information ASAP.

That would be a big bang, indeed. JJ, please, include a visit to your properties in Argentina for Mr. V!

And that loud shot you hear is the sound of the bubble bursting on Bill Belichik’s much heralded football ‘Genius’. Yeah, his game plans kept them in the games…but without Mr. Clutch they wouldn’t have all those trophies. Now that’s a guy who earns his pay in crunch time.

by Sterling on Mar 13, 2006 2:51 PM CST reply actions

What about Julian Peterson ??? Why isn’t his name coming up as a possible signing for us ?

by boysrule on Mar 13, 2006 2:54 PM CST reply actions

I used to be one of the first guys to call Peterson’s name, now, I found something that pulled me away, he has the Poston’s as agents, I didn’t knew about that and the Poston’s call Peterson the Michael Vick of OLB’s.

No team has expressed any interest after hearing that remark.

we need to sign somebody!!!! whats the latest on a FS aquisition?

by The Truth on Mar 13, 2006 2:58 PM CST reply actions

Something wild — and wildly awful — just occured to me.

Jerry is clearly obsessed with T.O. Yet he’s no fool. He knows signing him will elicit as many moans as cheers from the fans.

So what if he plans on announcing Vinateiri and Owens together? Some sugar to help the hard medicine go down? We’ll see.

by Rafael Vela on Mar 13, 2006 3:03 PM CST reply actions

Rafael:

That is an awful thought, ugh. As happy as I would be to see Adam V. on the team, it wouldn’t much matter if there was the strife and division that inevitably follows Owens. Plus, what a horrible and disrespectful way to introduce a classy guy like Vinatieri. To put him and the rest of this team under the bright lights of that media circus so soon would probably have Vinatieri wondering what kind of situation he got himself into.

I can just see him and Parcells rolling their eyes at each other in exasperation with the reporters falling all over themselves to ask them their opinions of T.O. No thanks.

can anyone refresh my memory on when Keyshawn is due his roster bonus. Thanks in advance.

by lilbeast on Mar 13, 2006 3:14 PM CST reply actions

As much as Jones fawns over TO, can you see him steamrolling BP in that way? Here might be the first big power struggle?

Notwithstanding TO’s proclivity for destroying lockerrooms and throwing every QB he’s had under the bus, do we really want 3 32+ yr old WRs? And I don’t think BP wants to part with Key — he does too much in the running game for us, and is such a dependable receiver. It also forces Copper off the game day roster — someone else whom BP feels is invaluable. Nothing good comes of TO.

What do you think?

This is great news, once we drop 2.5 mill on a kicker that will leave us 5 mill to spend on a longsnapper and another 5 mill for a holder. How could we not win a super bowl… :\

If they announce Vinatieri and TO together, I might be the happiest man alive… if BP wasn’t interested in TO, he wouldn’t have had lunch with Rosenhaus… ife we can get TO, Vinatieri, TO, and Peterson, we could concentrate on upgrading FS and RT in the draft…

YES some cowboys news…i like the adoyele signing, everyone was big on him a couple of weeks ago, I still would have liked McGinest, but I think Adoyele will shine on our D. Man are we young!!

Ranchreport.com has it, 5 years, he had 131 tackles in 2004, seems like a solid player who can play SSLB, WSLB, and maybe ILB.

Cowboys agree to 5-year deal with Jaguar LB

by Terrible Swede on Mar 13, 2006 3:37 PM CST reply actions

Man I don’t get all this hatred on TO coming to Dallas. He is exactly what we need, imagine if BP incorporates a 4 wide receiver formation with witten as the fifth and JJ in the backfield, there is absolutely nothing any defense in the league can do, we score at will. You know is coming and you still can’t stop it, just pick your poison. Please try to check TO one on one or TG or KJ, JW, PC we will run all day like there is nobody else on the field. All TO asked from the eagles was to paid and all this would have been avoided, but nope they wants to be the organization that doesn’t overpay for players and that crap, thats probably why they lost out on Bentley. The eagles take too much pride of themselves, fake a$$ Patriots. The wants to play football, please give him his one year deal, let him work his butt off to prove everybody wrong and that he can change, while helping us win the bowl. Look what the bumskins are doing, if we sign TO the Eagles are back to the bottom of the NFC east. Our biggest competition will be the Giants, and maybe the bumskins(damn I hate them). TO,TO,TO,TO,TO,TO,TO, please Bledsoe give TO the damn ball and lets see lito sheperd or shawn springs try to stop him. Man we pick up Vinatieri,TO, Ayodele, stud LB in the draft,a FS, DT and a Chris Cooley clone or twin brother and is finito my friends. We can start putting together the season highlights for the superbowl dvd, like my man flavor flav will say yeah boyeeeee!

by DemBoys on Mar 13, 2006 3:38 PM CST reply actions

lilbeast,

KJ is due his roster bonus on March 15 (Wednesday). Ironically, this is the same day that TO is due his (much larger) roster bonus from the Eagles. Therefore, things should be a little clearer in terms of BP & JJ’s plan for the wide receiver position for 2006.

I like your thinking DemBoys

by The Truth on Mar 13, 2006 3:42 PM CST reply actions

Glad to hear about Ayodele, I think he will be a great fit and bring more physical play to the LB’s.

The Truth:

For every fan like you who would be the happiest alive, there would also be at least an equal number of Cowboys fans that would feel the exact opposite. That’s not because we don’t want our team to win, or that we wouldn’t welcome a great player to the team, but because we also know what kind of drama and chaos comes with that deal.

Personally, I would feel very letdown that JJ would disregard Owens’ history of causing problems. I also don’t think Parcells needs the distraction of being peppered and hounded by media questions about that guy when he is trying to get a young team on the right track. I don’t think Bledsoe or Terry Glenn should have to put up with all that at this point in their careers either.

The only bright spot I can find about signing Owens is that it would make JJ’s signing of Joey Galloway his second biggest WR mistake of all time.

Why do you watch football sterling? to be entertained thats why… tow things make football entertaining, winning and storylines… can you imagine the emotion and hype the first time TO steps on the field against the Eagles? How fun would it be to smack that franchise in the balls with the one guy who was their undoing last year? Hollywood couldn’t write that shit! It wasn’t too long ago that a guy named Keyshawn was considered a troublemaker but look what happened… 2 years as a model citizen because of a guy named Parcells… I think the same would happen to TO… Jerry Jones has a reputation of keeping players happy and BP has a reputation of keeping them under control… it’s a match made in football heaven, and you’ll agree with me when TO is averaging 120 yards and 2 TDs a game while we are 12-4 with a first round bye…

DemBoys:

A 4 or 5 WR formation? ROFLMAO!! That’s a good one…

That might work in flag football at the park on Sunday afternoon, but in the NFL that’s not how the game is played.

Aside from the fact that those formations have been attempted numerous times and failed miserably in nearly every instance, Drew Bledsoe would end up on IR or ER within the first 2 quarters of the first game that was attempted with 5 WR’s….lol.

C’mon man, the NFL is about running the ball and stopping the run, plain and simple. If you need a refresher on that one, go back and watch the Houston Oilers of the early-90’s. In particular you might note their inability to hold a lead in the second half of games because they couldn’t control the clock.

Flav is my boy too…so I’ll give you another quote about T.O.:

“DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!!”

Sterling, please the guy is not a billionaire for nothing, he didn’t sit on his a$$ to earn all that money. You have to take risks, sometimes is good and others you regret. But in TO’s situation there is less risk, is almost a win win situation. The guy have no leaverage and this is his last shot, he knows it, his agent knows it, I know it and I am sure you know it. TO might be selfish, but I am sure he is not stupid, it is what it is, it happened so let us all move on. And I know JJ is thinking about selling tickets and #81 jerseys baby. I am telling you the guy is not stupid, he knows what he is doing. Believe me after the first game, I will you chanting TO,TO,TO, with me Sterling, so don’t worry my friend, be easy.

I am very glad we signed Akin Ayodele. I think with this signing Singleton will either be switched to ILB or released. Hopefully moved over because he is a reliable veteran and he’s good in coverage. This signing makes our draft more unpredictable which is good. Plus it gives us more to speculate about who we will draft.

The Truth and DemBoys:

If T.O. isn’t that stupid then look at all the money he cost himself by repeating the same thing with the Eagles that he did with the 49ers. Isn’t that stupid? Most any other sensible player would have handled the situation completely different and ended up getting what they wanted to be paid. He’s the very height of stupidity.

No, I won’t be chanting T.O.‘s name, ever, that I assure you. Should he even be granted the privelage of stepping on a playing field with a star on his helmet he should consider himself the luckiest man on earth, but I’m sure he views it as the other way around. If he were to ever score with that star on his helmet I would cheer Drew Bledsoe for throwing the pass and every player who blocked for him. That’s those people I’ve never heard him give one ounce of credit to when he brazenly declares himself the best WR in the NFL on video game commercials, yet those people are the reason he gets to do those commercials.

Yes, I watch football to be entertained, but what happens to entertain me is watching my favorite team win the game and not have a media sideshow centering around one player all the time above the rest. I played football most of my life and I am personally offended when I see a player throwing his coaches and QB’s under the bus out of selfishness and arrogance. That’s not what it’s about. Anyone who has ever played the game knows that it takes 11 guys on every play on each side of the ball to make things work. FG Kickers are the one exception to this.

Please don’t compare Keyshawn to T.O., there is really no comparison between the two as men. Key had his problems but he keeps his mouth shut and doesn’t put himself above his teammates. His problems with Gruden and Kotite were between them, and he never made a big spectacle out of it in the middle of a season. I don’t see him clowning around like a drunk guy in a dance club after he scores a TD. He also is a model citizen, and that is because of him, not Parcells.

I am easy, but if T.O. this team will lose all the momentum and strides they have made since Parcells took over. Other than those two Eagles games every year, there are 14 other ones that have to be won, and WR’s don’t win you Super Bowl Championships.

Demboys,

LOL. 4 WRs, Witten, and JJ huh? That formation will net -5 yards every time since it would make 12 men on the field – 5OL, 4WR, 1TE, 1RB, 1QB. I have to admit though, you’re right about that being hard to stop if the refs didn’t catch it.

N O to T.O.

Anyone think we might still sign McGinest to go with Akin, Bradie, and Ware?

by Male25Dan on Mar 13, 2006 4:23 PM CST reply actions

saying all TO did was ask the Eagles to pay him is laughable. TO made himself so odious at San Fran they had to trade him, then he didn’t like who they traded him to (Baltimore) so he threw a hissy fit and got a huge contract at Philly. at the end of one year he then wanted Philly to re-negeotiate that contract. uh, excuse me, but you SIGNED TO PLAY FOR THAT SO SHUT UP AND KEEP YOUR WORD.

when Philly refused to knuckle under he created a ruckus that ultimately undermined the entire team. nice. real nice.

there isn’t any question that TO can catch and is talented. but the risks you take with him are huge. will he behave this time? what kind of commotion will he cause on the sidelines if he run three times in a row instead of throwing it all three times to him?

he is a person without integrity and apparently not overly gifted in the brains department. that makes him utterly unpredictable. maybe he’s worth the risk. Philly almost got a ring with him. but I just don’t want to run the risk. no TO for me!

I’m sure you all like Michael Irvin… there aren’t too many Cowboys fans who don’t… The point is, Michael Irvin was a happy man, his team won, and JJ paid him what he was worth… I’m not condoning what TO did in the past, and in fact, I think he is a very selfish man who has the exact opposite attitude of any player I would ever want on my team… buttttt a man with his talent does not come around so often which brings me back to my Irvin comparison, TO has never won a Superbowl and has been on a couple shitty teams in San Fransisco… this tends to make a shallow man such as himself very unhappy (something Irvin didn’t have to deal with) I believe that Irvin had enough problems off the field that had he been unhappy on it, he would have pull some “TO stunts”… its obvious that TO’s pull financially decreased dramatically with last year’s happenings so I think JJ will be more than capable of keeping him happy in that department, and as far as the winning thing goes… well… we are getting close… trust me, he’ll be a model citizen if he’s happy

So No, TO has and never will have a place on the Cowboys.

by Cuervo5012 on Mar 13, 2006 5:00 PM CST reply actions

the truth:
That comparison between T.O. and Irvin needs to be put to rest, the comparison just doesn’t make any sense, Irvin may have been a big talker bu he never trashed talked anyone, now T.O. on the other hand stabbed McNabb in his back, when he headed to talk to the media about him being in fault of him losing his ring when he worked so hard to get back.

Let’s think for a moment that if in 1993 Aikman had done the same as McNabb (not to say that they’re similar, they really aren’t) and lost the game, Irvin wouldn’t have made his way to the media, he would have been over Aikman’s ass all of the offseason and wouldn’t come off until Aikman proved that he learned something.

Big diference between team players and Me players.

by Chandus on Mar 13, 2006 5:05 PM CST reply actions

Anyone who wishes to say Irvin is a me first guy, just listen to what Aikman and anyone else associated with the Cowboy’s at the time have to say about him. If it were up to them his nickname wouldn’t have been The Playmaker, it would have been Heart and Soul.

I remember you getting heat but you never got any from me. I all along have been for signing Ayodele. I’m really glad it happened. To me our defense will be like this for the 3-4
Canty-Ferguson-Spears
Ayodele-Singleton/Burnett-James-Ware
Newman-Roy-Coleman-Henry
And the 4-3 will be like this
Ellis-Pepper/Canty-Ferguson-Spears
Ayodele-James-Ware
Newman-Roy-Coleman-Henry
Now the Nickel can have so many different formations
Ellis-Canty/Ratliff/Pepper-Spears-Ware
Ayodele-James
Glenn-Newman-Roy-Coleman-Henry
Guys our DEF would be Top 10 possibly Top 5. Of course instead of Coleman you can substitute with Hope,Woodson,Bullocks andyone you like. I think we are already in a real good position. Plus we have great Depth all accross the board on Defense.

by lilbeast on Mar 13, 2006 5:31 PM CST reply actions

if we sign TO…Keyshawn is gone. That you can be sure of. So Crayton is still in the picture and the formation is the same. I think the only coach that could manage that shmuck is Parcells. If he can do that, and we can get some true line man to protect Bledsoe and some idiot who can kick from 40 yards…we have a super bowl caliber team.

by bigslick on Mar 13, 2006 9:31 PM CST reply actions

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned already, but Irvin and T.O. are good friends. Do you think JJ put in a call to his old receiver to get his help in landing T.O. That alone, I think, would be enough to get T.O. Trust me, he has plenty of incentive to play nice. T.O. has been tarred and feathered up here in Philly. He would love nothing more than to go back to the Linc with a star on his helmet and light it up. I guarantee that would be the most talked about game of the year.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate how he desecrated the star – that’s like peeing on the virgin mary! But like God, I do forgive. It would definitely make an interesting season.

by SFAgitator on Mar 13, 2006 9:45 PM CST reply actions

I don’t think Keyshawn will be gone, he’s to valuable. T.O., Keyshawn, Glenn, Witten = unstoppable. If Philly would have had that line-up, they would be enjoying one of them perty Lombardi trophies right about now.

by SFAgitator on Mar 13, 2006 9:48 PM CST reply actions

Keyshawn is not going anywhere, T.O. or not. Keyshawn is a bargain, at $1.5 million this year, with a $1 million bonus.

I would rather not have T.O., but if Jerry is that infatuated with him, and Irvin is one of his best buds, then it IS a done deal, and we will all have to hold our breaths and hope that he behaves himself and we win the Super Bowl!

Wow, I can’t believe I just said that! George Teague, where are you? We need you to lay another lick on T.O. if he dances on the star! LOL

DemBoys,

Interesting formation! I count 6 players there. Since NFL rules require 5 offensive linemen at all times, who is going to throw the ball to all those receivers, Julius?

by Mr. Bill on Mar 14, 2006 12:52 AM CST reply actions

bando,

Any compensation pick we might get for Fujita would not come until the 2007 draft. Don’t count on it though. We have signed two UFAs and lost only one. The NFL doesn’t hand out comp picks to teams that sign more players than they lose.

By the way, don’t look for anything from Glover either. He was not a UFA, under the terms of the CBA, since we cut him. The NFL doesn’t hand out compensation for players a team no longer wants. Glover could rack up 20 sacks and be voted NFL MVP, and we still would receive nothing.

by Mr. Bill on Mar 14, 2006 12:54 AM CST reply actions

Could TO and Key coexist? I doubt it but I certainly wouldn’t want to enter the season with only Crayton, a usually injury-prone TGlenn and TO as my only WRs.

That would be relying too much on TO and he might, just maybe, just a little bit, take advantage of the situation. Key is more dependable.

I will say this for Raf, he called it awhile back. My bet is OLB and TE are both selected day one, especially if we get an additional pick.
