Gentlemen, ESPN just broke breaking news, which, we have been expecting for quite some time. T.O. has landed in Big D. Bring him on!!!!

by jjherm1 on Mar 17, 2006 11:08 PM CST reply actions

cool…….

now we got that OT….and the TO!!!

To the Bowl we shall go. JT the Brick on Fox Sports said Dallas is not the beast in the NFC East and is easily the best team in that division and perhaps the conference.

Draft: Bookend Ware, draft at least one more O Line man…..find a Safety who can cover………and if a certain future qb falls in your lap…….well that will be fine too……

Seriously if TO cand DB can get on track…….Dallas will have 80 more points of offense……who do the Ds double now? TG? TO? watch out for the draw play with JJ or MB3…..oh I cannot wait for football season.

by Jon B. on Mar 17, 2006 11:08 PM CST reply actions

Yup Its official, Dallas Morning News is reporting. GREAT DAY FOR COWBOYS FANS, we’ve all been waiting for some action, Hannam, Fabini, and TO all signed in one day, with Coleman and Peterson visitng next week I heard. CANT WAIT FOR FOOTBALL!!!

by lou c on Mar 17, 2006 11:11 PM CST reply actions

It’s amazing how Cowboys Universe, has gone from hating T.O., to welcoming him. If he can perform like he is capable, watch out NFL!!!

by jjherm1 on Mar 17, 2006 11:16 PM CST reply actions

Wow, this might be making sense now. Last year the Boys went out and aggressively got 3 playmakers that played well but didn’t earn their first day signing. This year it was come out, wait and see what happens, let the money swell back down and get some guys who are just as good but for a much cheaper price, and how ironic getting 3 playmakers in one day, and exactly one week after FA started.

by thejoker_16 on Mar 17, 2006 11:23 PM CST reply actions

nice one Jon.

holy cow, i guess this is the big bang.

Lessee…

2 dependable OL – upgrade (even if LA is cut)
a blocking TE to replace Campbell – even
TO to replace Keyshawn – upgrade
Ayodele to replace Fujita – upgrade
Glover cut – downgrade

So if we can sign a K and snare a OLB, NT and FS in the draft, we’re good to go.

4 players left. The rest is icing.

by Len on Mar 17, 2006 11:24 PM CST reply actions

Guess that also explains them releasing Jacob Rogers today…

by Len on Mar 17, 2006 11:26 PM CST reply actions

Len:
This could possibly just 3, and maybe even 2. Now for sure kicker, thats a must, as well as safety should be upgraded in some kinda of way, and linebacker the same with safety. But nose tackle should not be stressed upon as much as the other 3 mainly because Thomas “Pepper” Johnson has great potential, especially after seeing him rip through some of our top lineman in a scrimmage registering 3 sacks, and then don’t forget about Jay Ratliff who was put on IR, a years worth of conditioning and some well needed rehab and he should be good to go. Remember before he was put on IR he was getting some okay playing time with even Ferguson.

by thejoker_16 on Mar 17, 2006 11:30 PM CST reply actions

thejoker,

I think we will def draft a NT, probably high. Pepper Johnson lets remember did that in a scrimmage, and hes smaller than Marcus Spears. That scares me in a 3-4, when your DE is bigger than your Nose Tackle. He has some potential, but I still expect an upgrade. Ratliff is a DE, he only moves inside to T in the nickel.

by lou c on Mar 17, 2006 11:34 PM CST reply actions

was that a big bang ,I just heard ?

by bono on Mar 17, 2006 11:37 PM CST reply actions

Good point, i’m not saying they shouldn’t get a NT in the draft, and when you say high you mean like 2nd day right, cause thats where i project Dallas to get a NT from. Now about Johnson, yeah he might be smaller than Spears, but remember who your comparing him to, Spears is one big cat, who some say is really heavy tight end.

guys, sorry to say, but, this is by far better than the best sex i have ever had in my life.. seeing all this stuff. i will be so happy to see julian peterson t.o. fabini, and that other TE guy that i dont know but beat us last october. wow. better than humping naked

by casual1031 on Mar 17, 2006 11:43 PM CST reply actions

just dont tell my wife that though haha

by casual1031 on Mar 17, 2006 11:44 PM CST reply actions

lol, crazy bro, but sex might be better if the boys don’t sign peterson, thats not a done deal yet.

by thejoker_16 on Mar 17, 2006 11:44 PM CST reply actions

Yeah, probably in the 5th round it seems. Although we still could be suprised and see Watson drafted in the 2nd round if he falls (this offseason has seen plenty of suprises and controversy so another one wouldnt hurt). I still like the potential of Watson although everyone here hates the guy. Guys like LeKevin Smith and Steve Fifta look like candidates, I like Smith alot if his knees are completely healthy. I think the draft will go: OLB, FS, OG/OT, NT, and then BPA in the 6th and 7th.

by lou c on Mar 17, 2006 11:45 PM CST reply actions

haha indeed it may get better if they dont sign him, but i seriosuly think they should lok at him, he just came off a career threatening injury, it slwos a guy down, hell look what turf tow did to deion.. give him a little while and he will be back to the beast he was two years ago.

by casual1031 on Mar 17, 2006 11:46 PM CST reply actions

im gonna bake a “fun-fetti” cake, put on a party hat, and dance around naked like its my brithday.. my apologies for revealing this to you guys, but i thought you should all know how excited i am to see dallas snappin like this I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!! RAF YOU ARE GOD

by casual1031 on Mar 17, 2006 11:47 PM CST reply actions

yeah if there is a NT that falls way below his draft status they should pick him up, good draft too.

Amazing that just a few days ago most people on this board were freaking out because Dallas was sitting on their butts and not doing anything. My, how things have changed! There is excitement in the air with the best fans in the world for the best franchise in the world! Thanks Raf for all you do.

by mgg on Mar 17, 2006 11:52 PM CST reply actions

most guys thought being aggressive in FA was the way to go but it certainly is not, this has turned out so great, we got who we wanted at a cheap price while everyone got who they wanted but for a very high price such as the Redskins who signed Antwaan Randle El with 11 million up front to play 3rd receiver.

by thejoker_16 on Mar 17, 2006 11:54 PM CST reply actions

Holy Macaroni, this is huge. Huge. I’m impressed. Jones and parcells are coming through.

by joey2zs on Mar 17, 2006 11:55 PM CST reply actions

this could end up being amazing. If we grab a FA K then that means that FS is the only real position of dire need in the draft. With the ability to go best available the draft could bring more talent to an already loaded franchise. Wow.

Playoffs for sure this year. The wild thing is… who in the NFC East isn’t going to the playoffs this fall?!

by Len on Mar 17, 2006 11:57 PM CST reply actions

thejoker 16, we were and still are extremely aggresive in free agency. Nothing says being aggresive means doing everything in the first day. I have a feeling we’re not done yet! GO COWBOYS!

by mgg on Mar 17, 2006 11:58 PM CST reply actions

Yeah or making Adam Archuleta the highest paid safety every in the NFL.

by lou c on Mar 17, 2006 11:58 PM CST reply actions

lou: that was another signing that made me drop down laughing at.

Len: With all this talent we don’t need a quantity draft, but a quality, trade that 2nd round pick and 1st to get up high enough to get a top linebacker or safety, now it might be far fetched but maybe, just maybe a guy like Michael Huff will leave the top 10.

by thejoker_16 on Mar 18, 2006 12:01 AM CST reply actions

okay fellas, i’m gonna crash, have a great night which i’m sure we fellow Cowboys will, and hopefully by morning these guys will be inked in.

by thejoker_16 on Mar 18, 2006 12:05 AM CST reply actions

Joker,
Right on brother.. I totally agree with your assessment. We got players with value… not necessarily superstar (except for T.O.) but guys who can come in an upgrade our team right away. I can’t wait till I see skins fall on their @ss. They are one injury away in each position to go down for the season.

by Toast on Mar 18, 2006 12:07 AM CST reply actions

ok guys, im done with all the weird and extremely strange comments. but honestly i think parcells has more than done his job since he has been here, lets give it up for BP

by casual1031 on Mar 18, 2006 12:07 AM CST reply actions

It’s Oxnard for me this year. I’m retired now and have the time. I may even get to Dallas again for a game. This should be quite a year. JJ and BP can do no wrong in my book. Late start but a great finish.

Now the Cowboys need to focus on getting Adam Viniteri or Josh Brown…

by miles on Mar 18, 2006 12:54 AM CST reply actions

I was wondering if anyone else caught how bad Washington will be next year. I saw above someone questioned their depth, but the D will be pretty bad. Campbell is still young and 2nd year corners tend to slump a bit, but they have two safeties who CANNOT COVER! Imagine the field day the Cowboys will have with TO, TG and JW going off play action because Shawn Taylor and Adam Archuletta are both mini-LBs and can’t cover.
Also, in the past 2 years, they’ve let go their best linebackers (and best defensive players) in LaVar and Pierce.
I’m not too affraid of their receivers either. Randel El will be like Az Hakim in Detroit.

by NICKL on Mar 18, 2006 12:57 AM CST reply actions

I am extremely excited about the moves we made. Fabini is a solid player, and of course Owens will make everyone around him a bigger threat.. Even though I am excited, I feel bad for Key and Glover. They came here and busted their butts!! Wish it wasn’t such a tough business.

I still think Brandon Williams is a nice fit. He is the type of receiver that can make you miss. He would be a very nice compliment to the guys already here. .. I believe that he can be a “Dave Meggett” type, and even line up in the back field.

The Boys are now officially in a position to draft the best player available. IMO it will be hard for Parcells to take a pass on Manny Lawson if he is there, but trading up to grab Huff is now a destict possibility. The Teaxas safety is a character player, and has that speed that I believe Parcells covets for the FS position. .. I know I talked a bunch about Charles Woodson, but Huff has the same types of abilities.

by Eric R on Mar 18, 2006 12:58 AM CST reply actions

I agree miles, I just wish they’d jumped on the kicker thing early and had a shot at Joe Nedney or Ryan Longwell, Vinatieri will be too expensive, and there’s no guarantee Brown wants to leave Seatle. They did just come off of a year pretty decent year (13-3 and a SB appearance). The thing we have on our side though is that Seattle may not have any money left if they keep Hutchinson

by NICKL on Mar 18, 2006 1:00 AM CST reply actions

Eric, drafting Manny Lawson would be amazing. I think he may end up being better than Ware. But I’d certainly jump for joy (not literally) if they drafted Huff. Although I’m not sure he’s worth trading up for if you can get Ko Simpson

by NICKL on Mar 18, 2006 1:03 AM CST reply actions

Why is the “official site” of the Dallas Cowboys so far behind this one? they still have Hannam visiting as a top story

by NICKL on Mar 18, 2006 1:05 AM CST reply actions

I know our O isn’t set as yet but how can a defense stop what the Cowboys already have. Bledsoe, TO, Witten, Crayton, Glenn plus JJ and Barber. If we resign KJ we’d be even more unstopable.

by mlf on Mar 18, 2006 1:07 AM CST reply actions

I know what your saying NICKL, they need to update that quick

by acowboy4life on Mar 18, 2006 1:10 AM CST reply actions

NICKL, they’re out celebrating.

by mlf on Mar 18, 2006 1:13 AM CST reply actions

Great signings, it almost feels like Christmas. I would still like to see Coleman signed next week; he’d probably be pretty cheap and has a few good years left in him. Plus he could help mentor a rookie FS we draft. We still need to get a kicker, hopefully Brown, and I wouldn’t mind acquiring a free agent FB. But man did JJ get it done. His patience worked wonders – just compare with the free spending redskins who will be pitiful in a couple seasons because of salary cap hell. The draft is gonna be sweet with most of these holes filled. We can draft for depth and the best players available. Cant wait for draft and football season!

by RParr on Mar 18, 2006 1:13 AM CST reply actions

Like JJ said to a reporter during a break at the players negotiating meetings in Dallas, “We intend to fill our glaring holes of OT,OG,OLB,FS and kicker in FA,then take the best players available in the draft”

by sharkz on Mar 18, 2006 1:14 AM CST reply actions

Let me get this straight, the cowboys signed TO, Fabini, and Hannam all in the same day? IS this the big bang? Do you guys think well get Peterson and Brown? How about re-signing KJ?

by acowboy4life on Mar 18, 2006 1:15 AM CST reply actions

What’s the scoop on Peterson?

ER,
Who is Brandon Williams?

by Toast on Mar 18, 2006 1:16 AM CST reply actions

Well JJ also said he wanted a veteran kicker so we are going to have to sign someone other than Suisham….and we still need a FS.

by sharkz on Mar 18, 2006 1:22 AM CST reply actions

when do you think the cowboys will have a press conference announcing the signings of all these players?

by acowboy4life on Mar 18, 2006 1:26 AM CST reply actions

im really looking forward to seeing if dallas does anything with Juilian Peterson, I think he would be a perfect fit in dallas. granted Parcells likes linebackers whos physical aspects are simlar to those of the Jolly Green Giant, but peterson was a pro bowler before his injury that in some cases is career threatening, i strongly beleive this guy is a playmaker. any thoughts?

by casual1031 on Mar 18, 2006 1:27 AM CST reply actions

The more I think about it, the more I realize I’m not too concerned about the other OLB spot. Sure, I’d love to have Peterson, but do we really need him. Singleton is adequate, Burnett may finally play some football. If anything I would sign Texans’ LB Dashon Polk, but as much as I like Lawson, I’d rather see the Cowboys draft a safety in the first round (Ko Simpson?), a NT in the 2nd if the value is there and then draft for depth and the future

by NICKL on Mar 18, 2006 1:29 AM CST reply actions

has anyone give FB any thought? Polite is def. not good enough and it’s generally a cheap fix. I wouldn’t blink to spend a third rounder on Matt Bernstein; he’s the next Kleinsasser

by NICKL on Mar 18, 2006 1:32 AM CST reply actions

i will take peterson if he’s paid backup pay-not a starter with BP though, he’ll have to prove that first like Dat did.

by Toast on Mar 18, 2006 1:58 AM CST reply actions

Where are we on cap money with these signings? My gut tells me we will still have $10 million plus even after TO. Can still do a lot of damage with that much cap money. This isn’t over yet. FB, FS as well as kicker all look doable.

by Swidge on Mar 18, 2006 2:00 AM CST reply actions

gunner, i think he has proven it with three pro bowls. and while his production was slown last year Achilles injuries tend to seriously slow down even the most athletic football players, for an extended period of time. i think he will get better, as i said, when Deion had “turf Toe” it looked like he would never play again, retired came to washington a year later and looked awful, retired agaian and came back for the ravens and has been extremely dependable for them. i think it takes some time. but within this year or mayeb the next he will back to his old self. even when his production was at its low this season he still wasetn half bad. id love to bring him aboard. but i agree with you if we can get him cheap might as well i say. which i think he will be because there isnt really a whole hell of a lto of people banging down his door or blowin up his phone if you havent noticed.

by casual1031 on Mar 18, 2006 2:01 AM CST reply actions

Fellas, I haven’t really heard anything on Julian Peterson, except that he has visited the Seahawks. I’m not really concerned with our OLB, I feel that Singleton can handle that position, then we also have Burnett and Thornton. I know that one of those guy’s will step and take the spot. We need to concentrate on a FS, K, and another WR. Our receiver’s are getting older, maybe someone like Chad Jackson, or Santonio Holmes. Guy’s if everyone will remember, Charles Haley came to the Cowboys with the same baggage that T.O. has or even worse. I don’t recall T.O. pissing in teammates lockers, or on the coach’s tires. Not that he didn’t want to!!!

by jjherm1 on Mar 18, 2006 2:02 AM CST reply actions

jjherm, singleton isnt bad but he isnt the julian peterson of 2003 before his injury, and if we can get that guy at a discount price would you not much rather have him, and even if we can get him, we can still use singleton as a rotation to keep everyone fresh. and might i add our linebackers always seem to be dropping like flys for some reason, the best linebacker in the last decade was coakley, the guy was simply there no matter what injurys and all, dat wasent necessarily injur prone but he wasent coackly if i can recall

by casual1031 on Mar 18, 2006 2:09 AM CST reply actions

oh yeah and i would much rather have sinorice moss the second round then waste my number one on holmes who i dont see as having anything special. now if chad jackson is available thats a different story

by casual1031 on Mar 18, 2006 2:12 AM CST reply actions

now this of course all changes if Vernon Davis is available, although we just got a second tightend today. just imagine running 2 WR 2 TE sets with T.O. lining up left and Glenn right, then we have vernon davis and jason witten on the insides. who are you goign to attempt to cover?? because all four demand a double team(this i am anticipating for vernon davis, since i havent seen him play nfl down yet, i just think he has greatness written all over his lightning fast 40 yard dash)

by casual1031 on Mar 18, 2006 2:14 AM CST reply actions

Trade Down.

Because it looks like we wonâ€â"¢t have any glaring needs and we could probably get the playerâ€â"¢s we want in the second round, how about a trade down out of the first round similar to the bills trade two years ago. We could have two seconds this year and two first rounders next year. We could get a good safety (bullocks) and offensive lineman (Scott, Spencer)this year with our seconds. Next year, in Parcells and probably Bledsoeâ€â"¢s last year, we could then package our two firstâ€â"¢s and move up for a franchise QB (Brady Quinn) who could learn from Bill and Drew for a year before before taking over with a new coach. A new era of the Cowboys will have begun.

Also there seems to be a good chance that teams with a young QB (Sf49ers Smith, Jets Cutler, Texans Carr, Redskins Cambell, Packers Rodgers, Titans Young) will be picking top five so there should definately be teams willing to trade down for a couple of number ones and a third. By next years draft we hopefully will know what we have better in Henson and Romo and if niether of them seems likely to successfully take over for Bledsoe then trade up for the young gun QB. If they do look good keep both firstâ€â"¢s and draft a wide reciever and nose tackle.

What do ya think?

by itrustintuna on Mar 18, 2006 7:13 AM CST reply actions

I know that the need of a RT was kinda important. Fabini should do fine, but I want to put a plug in for Petitti. A rookie last year he had growing pains, but all in all did a good job. I think that he is the future at right tackle, good work ethic, hard worker and wants to be a Cowboy. In this day of FA anyone who wants to play for a team is a plus. Another year or two of grooming and he will be an anchor at RT. Remember that building a team to compete for some years is what u want not overnite sensations. ie…Baltimore Ravens…. TO is a situation that bears watching, BP will handle this as he has all his players….play smart and hard and understand that mistakes will find you looking at his tonsils. TO needs to understand u want big money and an icon rating(Madden) then play to ur potential and shut up and show character. FS and K are important, draft FS unless Carpenter is available then draft FS. Kicker I’ll see where the ball lands..I’m out….

by texrickster on Mar 18, 2006 8:11 AM CST reply actions

tex: without doubt your throw in for Petitti will get some attention, you gotta rememember Fabini is a short term deal, his contract is reported as 3 years but he’ll probably complete just 2 at best

by thejoker_16 on Mar 18, 2006 8:25 AM CST reply actions

Ayodele………was the Jags Nguyen….over 100 tackles a year….and plays every game…..

he might not be an espn sportscenter favorite…….. but he is one hech of a football player and should help shore up the middle with James!!!

BOOKEND WARE BIll and we are going to win with BLOWOUTS……cuz nobody will score on us!!!

Jon-
from what I understand, when Ayodele was on the field everyone around him played better. Now why do we think that is-because the dudes a PLAYMAKER! I’m Pumped. Just woke up (rough night) and first thing came here to see what’s up.

by gunnerklein on Mar 18, 2006 10:29 AM CST reply actions

Causual 1031, not saying I wouldn’t love to grab vernon davis, and I don’t know as much about chad jackson. But I don’t see how you can say holmes has nothing special. He ran a 4.28 40 at the OSU pro day and the kid runs routes that will break the DB’s ankles. I would be overjoyed if we picked up holmes, especially with our aging receivers.

Not saying I want them to take holmes over one of the top FS’s, and it would be touch for me to choose between holmes and carpenter, but again he would be an awesome pickup.

Although trading down would be my idea, like you said with 2 1st’s next year we would have a lot more leverage to trade up to grab a QB if needed or Ted Ginn Jr. if he comes out.
