Marcus Coleman to start at free safety

Per Matt Mosley's Blog.

Marcus Coleman will start at free safety for the Cowboys on Sunday at Carolina.
Strong safety Roy Williams made the announcement on his weekly radio show on K104 this morning with host Chris Arnold.

Coleman replaces Patrick Watkins, who gets benched after numerous mistakes in the deep passing game.

Coach Bill Parcells wouldn't say who would start at his news conference this morning, so we'll find Coleman and possibly Watkins to find out the deal when the locker room opens up in a few moments.

I love Watkins, think he'll be a great player someday, but obviously he's not ready yet. I look for our coverage to be much better Sunday as a result of Coleman starting.

yeah man...
i hope they don't give up on watkins. he's got a chance to be a good player.

at this point, i'm glad they went to coleman though. hopefully his experience will help us.

doesn't mean watkins is off the hook though. we can't hide him. whenever he's in the game, teams are going to go after him. he's got to be ready.

I'm thinking
the reason why Parcells wanted Watkins to start and play well was because he's a great special teams player and he can save a roster spot on gameday. Now, with Coleman starting, he has to sit Watkins as  an inactive because he needs Elam and Davis on speical teams and can only dress 3 safeties.

Look for Watkins
to be back when we are playing day games. He seems to have much more trouble picking up the ball at night.

i remember...
i posted a diary about coleman a few weeks ago, and the consensus was to cut him....whew!....glad we didn't do that!
