I can't stand John Clayton

Sorry, but I gotta vent about this douchebag.

What the hell did TO do to this guy?  Clayton cannot write a single "1st and 10" column without pointing some sort of metaphorical finger at TO.  If Clayton's writing about the Cowboys, he's writing about TO too, and can't seem to help from demonizing the guy time and time again.  It's as if TO dissed Clayton's wife or something (although I can't imagine that pencilneck with a woman).

This week the choice quote is "Owens sabotaged Bledsoe with dropped passes and snide comments, leading to the rise of Tony Romo as a quarterback." I'm sorry, but did TO also force Bledsoe to make horrific decisions in the red zone? Did TO force Bledsoe to make slow decisions and take unnecessary sacks?

Clayton's hard-on for TO manages to ruin every Cowboys story he writes.  I used to enjoy reading his material but nowdays he's ESPN's version of Bill O'Reilly - pretending to be a serious, balanced sports journalist, but instead operating on his own personal agenda.  Of all the media hype TO generates, Clayton does a big part himself in making sure the hype stays high and in our faces.

Spot on
You described a very specific incident that describes in a nut shell my problem with ESPN.  They are completely full of BS.  Please see my "Death to ESPN" post.

What kills me is that ESPN analysts constantly pummel you with these inaccurate judgments on situations they know very little about.  In fact, thats all they do.  They bring on journalists who were formally writers of a local team, and these guys spew uneducated assumptions on every team in the NFL.  Clayton probably has watched 10 minutes of Cowboys games this year, and has zero knowledge about the culture and character of the Cowboys.

Hopefully you caught the very beginning of the Parcell's press conference when he asked Ed Werder, what the "weasels" had him out at Valley Ranch for.

ESPN is turned from a Sports Network into US Magazine.

I am just waiting for ESPN to tell us how Owens is responsible for the war in Iraq.

Its not the Media
If the big idiot, T.O would just keep his big damn mouth shut, there would be no story. Its not the media who spit in the face of another player, it wasn't the media who took took too many pills, it wasn't the media who showed up at camp wearing a Discovery jersey and helmet, it wasn't the media who feel asleep in team meetings, it wasn't the media who missed meetings, it wasn't the media who leads the league with dropped passes, it wasn't the media who said I didn't listen to the coach when he was talkng, it wasn't the media who said he wasn't into playing at times on the field, it wasn't the media who said he doesn't trust people in the organization, etc, etc,etc,etc.... JUST KEEP YOUR BIG STUPID MOUTH SHUT T.O. AND THERE WOULDN'T BE A STORY!!!!! STOP BLAMING THE MEDIA BECAUSE AN IDIOT CANT KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT..

Personally, I could care less about the media
What's the fascination with the media coverage? We know what ESPN is, why re-hash it all the time? They are going to report everything with as much drama as possible, so just ignore it. Let's talk about football, not ESPN or the other media.

Well Grizz
ignoring it isn't so easy when you constantly have Eagle fans throwing articles like this in your face.

I spent a good portion of today criticizing this very article to clueless Eagle fans who just love to read this kind of crap.

Oh and trust me, they believe every word of it to be true too.

It's easy for me...I'm just saying
I don't need to justify to Eagle fans, who cares about them. Let the game do the talking.

ESPN
I enjoy reading about football.  I read about it rabidly.  I thus read ESPN.  I would rather ESPN have better quality writing than poorer quality of writing.  Hence my rant.

No doubt, I read them too
I guess what I meant by ignore is don't let them get under your skin. They're not worth it when they write stupid stuff like the Clayton article.

It is not TO
ESPN bobble-heads make up stuff about many different sports and people. ALl day today was ESPN saying the Duke rape case was off because the victim could not say she was penetrated. That is false as she was reported per the court document filing only to say she did not know with what organ she was penetrated.

ESPN and other national and local media are in the business of selling ads. The more people tune in the more the ad revenue. Thus sensationalism and yellow journalism abound. John Clayton is just another one. This year I have curtailed much of my reading (especially ESPN.com) and come here to read the accurate portrayals. Grizz is a treasure and all of you make it possible (yes - click on Grizz's ads too so he can afford us).
