If Bill stays one more year (2007)

There could be a long line of valuable coaching prospects in the 2008 season.

Even if Bill Parcells returns for one final year, check out the possibilities for 2008-2009:

  • Bill Cowher (as we all know, currently retired and it's under the last year of his contract right now with Pittsburgh)
  • Marty Schottenheimer (remember, he only signed a one-year deal last week... and that's for 2007... if King Jerry hired Marty, the veteran coach could bring Wade Phillips with him as a defensive assistant)
  • Wade Phillips (he's currently the San Diego defensive coordinator)
  • Lovie Smith (as of today, he's in the final year of his contract, and the Bears front office have yet to offer him a new deal) (personally, with Smith's Tampa-2 D, I couldn't see him here)
  • Ron Rivera (Chicago's present defensive coordinator, who's been a candidate in a few job searches this year and some last season)
  • Dan Reeves (could he return to Big D, where he played as under the legendary Tom Landry... and remember, Reeves had Phillips with him both in Denver and in New York - with the Giants)
  • Mike Martz (i don't want "Mr Pass Happy/One Dimesional Offense," but Jerry's always intrigued with offensive-minded coaches)
  • Dennis Green (see Mike Martz)
  • Norv Turner (see Martz and Green above)
  • Charlie Weis (part of the Parcells coaching tree, and King Jerry could be willing to pay the millions to buy him out of his Notre Dame contract)
  • Bob Stoops (the OU coach is always mentioned in rumors to coach the Dallas Cowboys)
Personally, I want the Big Tuna to stay JUST ONE MORE SEASON, because I like the list of candidates for 2008.

Cowher and Phillips
would probably be the guys high on Jones' candidate list. We now have the personel to play a 3-4 so I can't see a lot of the candidates you named really being a possibility.

coaches
If Dallas decides to hire a new coach I hope they go the younger route.  And not someone who is only going to be around for a few years.  That said there are not many good assistant coaches out there like there was last year.  With Whisenhunt and Tomlin gone the barrell is about dry.

I wouldn't mind
see Bob Stoops, he seems to be a pretty good coach, but I do know that the nfl is different than college, but I think he's still good.

Wade Phillips is also a good choice, he runs the 34 defence and has been in the nfl fo awhile.

I know the is no way in heck we will be able to get Cowher. 1. we would have to give up a draft choice and 2. he said he wants one year off maybe two, but at lease 1. As for Stoops and Phillips and maybe Rivera from the bears, I don't see any other choices.
