Falcons hire Mike Zimmer

It's a done deal according to ESPN:

Mike Zimmer, the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator for the past six seasons, has agreed to become the Falcons defensive coordinator under new coach Bobby Petrino, ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting.

I can't say I'm sad to see this development, Zimmer needs to return to a 4-3 defense and Dallas needs a dynamic, experienced 3-4 coordinator.

Petrino
Man, Petrino's not wasting any time.

He just hired Cincy's WR coach Hue Jackson to run their O...

And now he landed Zim from us.

That adds one more question to "As Valley Ranch Turns"

Goodbye Zim...
played the hand that was dealt him. Did a decent job. A couple of years there we had top-rated defenses. Was loyal. But like Grizz said, the last month probably sealed his fate.

Wish you much success.

I think it's exciting.
Hopefully, we get someone who will bring fresh ideas and energy to this defense, and use people such as Roy properly.

Don't Hold Your Breath
If The Big Tuna returns, it'll be some no-name pawn that Parcells can control.  Someone who won't be allowed to be creative in scheming the defensive system.

you don't know what you're talkin' bout
the niners haven't had a good defense SINCE MORA JR was their defensive coordinator (under the Mariucci regime).

and your logic -- or lack thereof -- is very stupid, because Mora Jr ran a 4-3 defense and in case you haven't noticed, Dallas runs a 3-4.

get some knowledge...

After his year of vacation
Cowher will replace the retired BP. Aw yeah... the Big Chin will meet Big D.
At least I don't live in Philadelphia.

Cowher and TO in a spittin' contest?
I don't think so. Cowher will wait for Fox to get the axe in Carolina before he makes his family pick up and move again.

Bowles
Mosley thinks that secondary coach Todd Bowles is likely to replace Zimmer as def. coordinator if Parcells stays.

Color me unimpressed if that ends up being the case....

by Philosopher on Jan 9, 2007 4:47 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

If BP stays, he's probably deeded over the
keys to Valley Ranch back to Jerry after this season. No more lost control for JJ.

Zimmer is a good coach
he'll do a great job in Atlanta. He'll be missed here, I'd rather the 4-3 than the 3-4 defense.

I would like to see the cowboys bring Norv Turner in as our offensive coordinator, probably wont happen, but I remember troy Aikman say glowing things about him and what he did for his career, so much so, that Norv was Troy's presenter to the Hall. I think Turner would do wonders with Romo.

Toolbag
Why is some 69ers tool bag fan--who spells worse than a 3rd grader--always talkin' crap on a Cowboys forum?

by Cowboys Dominance on Jan 9, 2007 5:39 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Good question
I was hoping everybody would have the good sense to ignore him instead of answering his comments. Usually if you do that, they get bored and go away.

Grizz
I think I figured it out: his sig is "tofan"; he prob. follows TO around to whatever team he is on (can't believe didn't notice that earlier).  I wouldn't have been so aggressive if this were an isolated incident, but I noticed his comments on MANY posts (like, e.g., the one right before this one about Zimmer), and they just seem to be antagonistic--trying to bait us.

As a Cowboys fan, I hate the 69ers and always will.  I imagine 69ers fans feel the same way about us.  All the same, this is a Cowboys BLOG, not some "rivals forum" where smack talk is the norm.

I read this blog for detailed analysis of the Boys, and, sometimes, and to a lesser extent, for the comments of other readers.  Reading some trash talking post by a 9ers fan is just a waste of time.  Things must be REALLY boring in 69ers land!!

The Falcons 4-3 D just got good
Zimmer inherits some playmakers (when healthy) and gets a fresh start. With a coaching change that'll probably let Vick be Vick, they just moved up to the top team in the NFC South.

by Doomsday on Jan 9, 2007 7:13 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

not unless they trade Vick
and start Schuab.

by Terry on Jan 9, 2007 7:30 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Forgot about da Saints
But ATL with Vick is still better than Tampa and Carolina. A better D make them competitive with Nawlins.

by Doomsday on Jan 9, 2007 7:40 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Zimmer is a great DC
If he wasn't, than Parcells would have dropped him last season and brought in a 3-4 guy. He's a good coach and ATL should be really happy with him. I wish him good luck, except when they play us.

by APerfectStar on Jan 9, 2007 8:28 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

With Cowher leaving...
Is it possible we could get Dick LeBeau for the new DC?

Or With Saban gone from Miami, I think Dom Capers would be available also.

And lets get Hudson Houck back to coach the O-line.

by APerfectStar on Jan 9, 2007 8:34 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

LeBeau was the reason that the Steeler's
defense was so great(in 2005).
I love to see him as Dallas' DC.....even if he was from Deeetroit!
