Bill Parcells 10 (11) Commandments
So I was watching Sportscenter and Stuart Scott with the ugliest suit I have ever seen introduced Parcells.
Parcells went on to discuss his commandments for a QB like be conditioned, avoid outside advice, etc. Hopefully someone can find the text of it somewhere online.
I wonder how similiar this list is to the list Bill left for Romo at the end of the year.

Bill
Was sooooo scripted in that speech. And he ended with "apparently Romo was listening". I hope Bill didn't read them to Tony the same way he did to ESPN.
Seriously, Romo has said he still has Parcells "commandments" taped up in his locker.
It is the same list he left Romo
or at least that is what they said on Monday Night Countdown right before the game.
Bill's 11 QB Commandments
- Press or t.v., agents or advisors, family or wives, friends or relatives, fans or hangers on, ignore them on matters of football, they don’t know what’s happening here.
- Don’t forget to have fun, but don’t be the class clown. Clowns and leaders don’t mix. Clowns can’t run a huddle.
- A quarterback throws with his legs more than his arms. Squat and run. Fat quarterbacks can’t avoid the rush.
- Know your job cold. This is not a game without errors. Keep yours to a minimum. Study.
- Know your own players. Who’s fast? Who can catch? Who needs encouragement? Be precise. Know your opponent.
- Be the same guy everyday. In condition, preparing to lead, studying your plan. A coach can’t prepare you for every eventuality. Prepare yourself and remember, impulse decisions usually equal mistakes.
- Throwing the ball away is a good play. Sacks, interceptions, and fumbles are bad plays..Protect against those.
- You must learn to manage the game. Personnel, play call, motions, ball handling, proper reads, accurate throws, play fakes. Clock, clock, clock, don’t you ever lose track of the clock.
- Passing stats and td passes are not how you’re gonna be judged. Your job is to get your team in the endzone and that’s how you’re gonna be judged.
- When all around you is in chaos, you must be the hand that steers the ship. If you have a panic button, so will everyone else. Our ship can’t have panic buttons.
- Don’t be a celebrity quarterback. We don’t need any of those. We need battlefield commanders that are willing to fight it out everyday, every week, and every season, and lead their team to win after win after win.
Gotta remember Parcells is old school...
Feel the same way about #11 but it doesn't piss me off though...Parcells is old school and he probably gave this same list to Vinny Testaverde 10 years ago.
With ESPN alone (not to mention the speed of the internet) AND the fact that it's the Dallas Cowboys, it's impossible for someone playing like Romo right now to NOT get some serious publicity.
I remember thinking during the game on Monday, "Damn, now ESPN is gonna stop showing the Romo Promo." LOL don't know why. Guess I had alot of odd thoughts running through my head as I watched 5 picks. After the game ended and we won...sure enough, in the first commercial break after the game...there's the Romo promo!
Romo's the face of the Boyz now which makes him a celebrity...like it or not.
I think you misunderstand what he means
By celebrity QB I think he's saying don't let that stuff go to your head and interfere with football. He knows guys are going to get endorsements and commercials, etc. but just make sure your job as QB comes first. Don't be a celebrity QB, be a QB who happens to have some celebrity.
