Defensive Stats from 2nd through 4th game

If you take out the NG Giants game as an abberation (new system, unsure cornerbacks, etc), the defensive stats for the Cowboys are impressive. On average they would be cumulative for games 2-4:

Total yds per game (253 per game, 2nd in league)
Time of posession (25 min. for opposing team, 35 for Dal)
Points per game (12.3, 5th in league)
Yards rushing per game (66, 3rd in league)
Net yards passing per game (166, 5th in league)
"reverse" qb rating, which is a more comprehensive way to measure the passing defense (62, 2nd in league)
Avg gain per passing play (5.3 yds, 6th in league)
Passing completion percentage(50%, 1st)

Pretty impressive, but one of the main things that helps the defense is the Dallas time of posession. 10 minutes per game is huge.

These cumulative stats may improve with the Buffalo game, may go down after the NE game.

Impressive Stats

Even if the last three offenses we've faced weren't that good.

You make a good point

by showing week 2-4 separately. However the Giants have 2 of the 3 wins by our to-date opponents and thus are the best measuring stick for us. We all know the defense has gotten better each week and the points allowed attest to that. Even with the Giants game included the defense is #8 in yardage and #11 in scoring. We have the 8th best time of possession on defense and we have a 42% 3rd down % against us and a 45% offense 3rd down percentage. The Giants are likely the 2nd best offense we will face. So my point is that we are improving and we can be pleased with our record and we all hope the dominance gets even better. As Coach Parcells siad "You are what you are". Thanks for the analysis.

TD's since Giants game

Giants had 4 TD's on the first 11 drives, there has been only 4 TD's since on 38 drives.

Giants--good offense

three teams we've played since---bad offenses.

That would make any defensive stats look good.

Real test coming up---Patriots
