Carl Banks Lovin' on our D
NYG legend Carl Banks was on SIRIUS's "Moving the Chains" show today and gave surprising props to the Dallas Defense.
Banks was on SIRIUS NFL channel today. They spent quite a few minutes talking about the upcoming Dallas/Green Bay game and breaking down that matchup.
This shocked me: Banks, who knows Defense pretty well (can we agree on that?) said that he thinks the Dallas Defense is "much better" than the Packer Defense!
Now, I don't know about you, but that's not what I've heard from any other broadcaster. All you hear about GB is what a stud Favre is, and that, paired with that stifling Packer D, they'll go far.
It wasn't long after he said that, Packer fans started calling in outraged. Banks eventually backed down a little and said we were "a little bit" better, and not "much."
Banks likes the scheme we play, and how confusing it is starting to look to guys like Eli Manning, with all the movement pre-snap and how we'll line guys up in different places all the time. He likes our playmakers, especially, I gather, at linebacker.
BTW, he says the way to beat the Packers Defense is you've got to have good targets to pass to beyond your first and second receivers. The Packers' two starting corners will blanket those guys, but they are vulnerable trying to cover anyone past that point. Sounds like he smells a big day for Crayton, Fasano, Curtis, Hurd, etc.

I hope Garrett tries to get Hurd more involved
in the Green Bay game in that case.

I've heard Banks before...
And while he's still very much a New York homer, he does shoot straight on these things.
The Packers defense is very good, but is also slightly overrated. Dallas will be able to move and score on them, particularly at home.
In my opinion, the Cowboys D is just as good as they are, and has the potential to be better by the end of the year.
Banks is correct
The Cowboys obviously have a more talented defense and now that we are getting players healthy and more familiar with the Phillips 34 schemes, they will be one of the best defenses in the league by the end of the season, certainly better than GBs.
I do have one nit to pick...
with Banks' comments. I dont think either Packers corner, though they are very good, is going to have a lot of success single covering Owens for the bulk of the day. Given TO's steadily improving (approaching dominant) play as the season has progressed, I dont think any corner would be successful in single coverage on him. TO was good to very good in the first season and a third of his dallas tenure, but lately he seems to have taken his game back to the dominant level of his '04 campaign with the eagles and his 49er days.

I have to agree about that
GB's corners are excellent, some of the best in the league. I don't doubt that for a moment.
But TO and Romo are gonna get theirs eventually if you try to rely on man-to-man all day.
I can see one of them shutting Crayton down for the day, honestly. But if you're Green Bay, do you like either one of them on Witten? He's just way too big and strong, I think. And even if you're comfortable with that, then that's one of your two great corners occupied with our TE while Crayton runs free, basically.
Hard to believe
this is redskins week and we are looking ahead to Green Bay. I realize Banks wanted to talk about Green Bay but this week is 50% of a successful season to this fan (the other 50% is the final regular season game with the skins). Only after we beat them down twice can we turn our attention to the post season if any.
(And yes, I agree that our defense is better than Green Bay's).
