Sean Taylor shot

not a lot of info, but apparently he was shot last night at his home in Florida.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor was shot as his Florida home, according to a statement released Monday by the team.

The brief statement from the Redskins said Taylor was undergoing treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida and that the Miami-Dade Police Department was investigating.

Heard he was shot in leg on CNN

and word is that he's in serious condition in surgery, but the serious condition might be just rumors reported by CNN

what's Taylor's history?

didn't he get into trouble before, I'm sure he did, just can't remember what it was........and not saying this is his fault if it was a home robbery, but hanging around with the wrong crowd, he might've said too much about what he had in the house........

he has been in trouble

actually last year was facing charges for pulling a gun over in a dispute over a car in Florida when he should have been in training camp. He was doing the Miami thing where you only train at "The U" during mini camps instead of with your team. Would be interesting to learn if the two are at all related, or if this is just a random act.

First to six!!!

i'm waiting...

for some idiot (probably skip bayless) to blame him for getting shot at 2 a.m. in HIS OWN HOME.....guess that argument that players don't need to own guns seems kinda dumb now......i hope he's alright and i hope i see him on the field again....he's a helluva player and a thorn in the Boys side...but nobody deserves that....antoine walker didn't....neither does sean taylor....

with any incident involving NFL players

you have to be skeptical, The truth about what really happens usually comes out some time much after the fact. I certainly hope he's OK and can play football again, but I'll reserve judgement on the attempted robbery claim at this point. He might of been shot with his own gun for all we know, so I'll believe the robbery claim until something else proves other wise.

WOW... and your evidence is?

harsh, Deke... and where do you get such fanciful ideas of players lying about midnight attempted murder?

Keith 'bullet' Davis

I was driving all night to go to church in the morning after visiting friends and family the night before.

Real story-- I was at a street party, got into an argument with somebody that night and while driving with an unnamed women who refused to give a statement to police, someone drove along side and shot at car.

Remember that story from last year!! Thats why I reserve judgement on these incidents.

Get well, Sean

On the field, I hate this guy, and he's no stranger to a plea bargain, but this sounds very serious and I hope he pulls through.  Sports are secondary in times like these.

I do have to say though, I'm not sure how having a gun would have helped him in this case.  Guns create dangerous situations, as they have for Taylor in the past.  There have been a lot of these sorts of break-ins at athlete's homes lately (both in America - particularly Chicago - and abroad), must be very disconcerting for players.

I am skeptical like Deke, but blame is really irrelevant at this point.  I just hope he's okay.

yikes

ESPN said it was life threatening. Man, I hope he pulls through. You hate to see something like that happen to anybody, especially a young player whose career just got going.

funny...

how a player doesn't get the benefit of doubt, but almost any other american would...hmmmmm....wonder why that is?

we live in a terrible world where people are skeptical when some kid gets shot and is in critical condition. he's 24 and he's battling for his life right now. have some compassion. it's not overrated. i promise you. keith davis has nothing to do with sean taylor. two different people. two different teams. two different situations. don't let generalities cloud the severity of this situation. the only thing coming out of anybody's mouth should be. GET. WELL. SOON. SEAN.

with the kevin everett injury, ron springs, two denver broncos dying in the offseason, seems like there has been a lot of tragedy in the league this season. puts the game into perspective.

thank god nothing like this has happen to any of our players this year.

his condition is worsening

Sean Taylor "Clinging To Life"

Richard Sharpstein, who has represented Sean Taylor in legal matters in the past and is a friend of the family, said moments ago that the player's life is hanging in the balance in the hospital. Sharpstein, speaking from the hospital, said Taylor is "nonresponsive and unconscious" and the doctors are "worried about a possible brain injury or death."

Wow

That's really sad. Come on Sean, pull through buddy. Today, I'm rooting for you big time.

He's made some progress

has not woken up from the coma yet, but he's responded by squeezing a nurse's hand (one report says he opened his eyes). Just found out that he flatlined twice during the surgery, which must have been incredibly tense.

Hopefully he survives.

My prayers go out to his family

If anyone can make it through such a traumatic situation, it is an NFL athlete.  I also can't help thinking that having a child gives him something extra to pull through.

I can only wish him the best.

Pulling for Taylor

He's an incredible athlete and a worthy opponent.  In the spirit of sportsmanship we should all be praying for his recovery.  The circumstances and his past actions are not relevant when his life hangs in the balance.

agreed

anyways, he seemed to have turned a corner personally and was becoming the starter that he should have always been.

but circumstances don't matter, nobody deserves to die like this.

Looking better

Local news says he responded to touch and made a facial expression with loved ones.

Answered prayers! He's still alive after flatlining a few times due to loss of blood.

I of course love it when the Redskins lose on the field, but can only hope for the best for this great player!
