Skip Bayless is Just Ridiculous

Just watched ESPN2's First Take and Skip Bayless is absolutely ridiculous!

Star-divide

In a segment discussing whether the Cowboys won the game or the Lions lost it (which by itself is purely ridiculous because both the Cowboys won the game and the Lions lost the game) Skip Bayless talked about how Romo is the luckiest QB in the league and that his luck is the only reason the Cowboys have been this sucessful.  He says that every "bounce" has gone Romo's way this season and that is the only reason we are winning games.
Well first of all, we all know how "objective" Skip Bayless is as a "reporter."  Check out the titles of some of the books he has authored.  But seriously, just because he is a Cowboys hater does he have to be blind to the fact that something special is truly happening in the Big-D!  In any case, T.O. (who Skip has nicknamed "Team Obliterator) is slated to make an appearance tomorrow on the show which should be quite an interesting watch.  Can't wait to see how T.O. hands it to Skip!

heh

The same could be said about Tom Brady, whose team remains undefeated only because of last-minute meltdowns by the Ravens, Eagles, and Colts.

But whether it's by luck, good fortune, the Football Gods smiling upon us, or simply the clutch abilities of Romo, we won the game. And that's all I care about.

I think its hilarious...

that tom brady was talking about aaron smith (?) saying he only got his job because of injuries....

hey buddy....guess how you got yours?

by Tuna Helper on Dec 10, 2007 3:16 PM CST up reply actions

um

i think he meant he can only hold his job because of injuries.  tom brady has his job because he's pretty good.

I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure Tom Brady can talk trash to just about anybody in the world.

id kick him in the nads

and then make out with one of his supermodel baby mamas. And then high five Tony Romo after the Cowboys beat them in February.

ROTFL! That's freakin' hilarious, groves!!!

Personally

this is exactly why I cannot get into Tom Brady. You really think Tony Romo would say that about someone else? I don't see it. I am a fan of what Tom Brady is doing on the field, but I am right on that line where Tom Brady is getting just a little bit full of himself.

Dude - you have 3 Super Bowl rings, an MVP and an undefeated season on the way. You date and have babies with supermodels.

You can let the words of a 2nd year backup defensive back go now, Tom. Jeez.......talk about being blown out of friggin proportion.

what's funny

is how earlier in the week the Pats all said they weren't concerned with anything Anthony Smith said. Yesterday they revealed that he and his words were on their mind the whole time.

Smith was pretty stupid for making his 'guarantee', but the Pats made it obvious that they didn't just blow him off and ignore him like most other teams would.

I wouldn't be suprised in the least if skip

didn't make it to work tomorrow. Iverson made him look like an ass. It could be pretty entertaining if they get to talk to each other.

Skip "BRAINLESS" Bayless

is by far the biggest Cowboy and Romo hater their is. He is about as bright as your typical iggle fan. He prob. wont show up just like after we whooped the Giants, which he was proclaiming the best in the NFC. If he is there I hope T.O. puts him in his place.

skip brainless...

the same skip who said we'd get blown out by the giants, moss would be cut by the patriots, T.O. isn't the best receiver on the team, harrington was a better QB than Vick, troy aikman was gay, Lebron James is the weakest link on the Cavs and the team would be better without him, iverson is old and can't play...

on and on and on.....he's been wrong...but ESPN keeps giving him a platform because people hate him and watch the show to root against him....

the only guy that seemed to put him in his place was stephan a. smith when he said his anger towards T.O. and the Cowboys borders on irrational...

TO

is going to be on First and Ten tomorrow. This should be good.

by Cowboys81 on Dec 10, 2007 3:45 PM CST reply actions

everyone knows Bayless is a moron

Someone should explain to that idiot that only really good players are lucky and there is a reason for that.

I say Bayless is lucky to have the job he has considering he's so full of s#$%.

In Romo we Trust

What i find funny

is that when Brady and the Pats catch all the breaks, (SEE RAVENS GAME) and somehow wins, its because their that great. But when Romo and the Boys do it, their the luckist team in the NFL. I think i've posted how much I hate Skip Brainless, but you have to remember, he bases everything he says on opinion, I've never heard him give facts or stats, unless there negitive. To be honest I think he is jealous of Romo and ladies he's been getting.
Anyway we all know the truth about the boys and how good they really are, I hope T.O. rips him up.HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!!!!!

in defense of Bayless

I don't think Skip is literally stupid. He's moved consistently up the sportswriting ladder for too long to have that be the case.

His ESPN gig is just a Persona, akin to "Pro Wrestling Villain." He comes out and makes wild and "anti-CW" overstatements about popular players that are designed to get a response. I used to email him back and forth a lot when he was with the Merc-News and he was always really polite and nuanced, even when I was critiquing his columns.

Hmm...The Joe Bob Briggs

of sports journalism?  Joe Bob was actually a pretty mild mannered and enlightened guy, but acted out the role of the Neandertal drive-in film critic.

Interesting perspective, thanks for pointing that out.  Bayless is so irrationally critical towards Romo, when it's obvious he's a great QB, that he's way beyond the most militant Eagles fan.

joe bob was...

way funnier...and way more rational....

he appealed to the good things in life: boobs, beer and fightin'....skip appeals to the bad things in life. namely, him and his ego.....

by Tuna Helper on Dec 11, 2007 2:21 PM CST up reply actions

Well, Yeah...

I agree with all that, but I was mainly pointing out the notion that Skip could be acting out a calculated obnoxious persona, like JBB.  Joe Bob had no ego, Skip is all ego, but both could well be acts.

by kindablue on Dec 11, 2007 5:52 PM CST up reply actions

Absolutely

That's what all of these blowhards are.  Guys like Jay Marriotti and Bayless have made their living doing this stuff.  ESPN has become a forum for having uninformed "experts" scream at each other about their unfounded opinions.  To make that interesting, you have to say things that make no sense.

Of course, there are also some guys who want to be real sports reporters (like Michael Smith...I like that guy), but ESPN has found a wealth of cheap programming with these guys.  It's like the reality TV of sports media (I'm going to ignore the actual, truly horrible reality TV shows that ESPN has drudged up).

I blame Jim Rome for this.  Hopefully TO will beat up Bayless like...

by grapejoos on Dec 11, 2007 11:59 AM CST up reply actions

I would agree with you...except

when it comes to the Cowboys he has a long history of Cowboy hating including numerous books.  His irrational comments as to other popular sports personas, (Lebron, Koby, etc...) are clearly part of his TV persona.  However, his hatred of the Cowboys goes well beyond that.

by WittenRocks on Dec 10, 2007 7:11 PM CST reply actions

well, yes...

Bayless takes people whom he already has reason not to like (Kobe, Bonds, Cowboys) and amplifies them. But seriously: he used to write these crazy Bonds columns and then respond in emails with humility and nuance. It's a schtick that is based upon Skip's pre-existing biases. So there's a grain of Skip's actual opinion there. But the militant hyperbole is an act.
