Giants/Patriots open thread
I'm rooting for the Giants hardcore. For some reason, I just can't stomach the thought of the Patriots going undefeated.
For one of the few times in my life - Go Big Blue.

Good
now the whole world will see how bad Gumble is...

Choose a hated Dallas Rival
over the Pats who have no real history with us?
Interesting...

I can't stomach
listening to Bryant Gumble. I hope NFL Network realizes he sucks and fires him after the season.

it's been a Patriots lovefest all season
I'm sure tonight will be no different.

an odd season
I've rooted for the Eagles, the 'Skins and the Giants this year. go figure.
Go Giants!
Can't believe I'd ever say that. Anything to deflate the egos of all the smug jerks in Boston.
by Nelson @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 29, 2007 7:19 PM CST reply actions
hmm
this makes no sense. If the giants win, they go into the playoffs with immense confidence. They know they just beat one of the best teams, maybe ever, and that's a good thing for the Cowboys>?
Just bizarre.
by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 29, 2007 7:22 PM CST up reply actions
they can have all the confidence they want
We swept them this season. I'm confident that we can beat any NFC opponent in the playoffs. I won't say it's guaranteed, but I'm not worried about a potential third match-up.

weird feeling also
rooting for the giants? happy they got the ball to plaxico? ugh... but still, 7-0. GO giants!
I can't believe
I high fived my girlfriend when the Giants scored...that's how bad this has gotten in my hatred of the Pats.
If the Patriots lose this
game they are going to be more motivated to win the SB so I don't think I want them to lose even though i hate them more than any team
i don't think it will matter in the SB
win tonight they are going for 19-0 and will be just as motivated, i think
dropping passes
is not the way to win this one
Good to see the horse collar
only applies to Roy.

here we go with the cheating...
no call on harrison's late hit...
and randy moss just leg-whipped and held....and no call....
really
i saw contact for 10 yards...

or the illegal hit on Moss

they penalized moss for spiking the ball??

Coolaid
how about that non penalty penalty? Even now?

by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 29, 2007 8:02 PM CST up reply actions
could be wrong
but i think you're referring to the hit on moss...didn't seem illegal to me....seems like he kinda ran into it....this is football...that tends to happen....as for the excessive celebration....i admit...that was a BS call....but like i said earlier, i hate that rule anyway.....quit micromanaging the game....
I'm hoping the Pats win
because when we beat them in the SB it will that much sweeter!
My thoughts exactly, Terry...
I'll look at it that way if they do win tonight
but I'd rather they lose here AND lose the SB to the 'Boys.
if they make it
I wouldn't be surprised if they get upset by Jacksonville in Round 2

Roy
A big hitter can cover, hopefully he's watching Harrison tonite..
by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 29, 2007 8:14 PM CST reply actions
Seriously? Rpping on Harrison?
He's been consistently heralded as one of the best coverage safeties in the business. Do you not remember the job he did on Witten?
I hate Brandon Jacobs.
I wish someone would beat his punk ass.
for offensive PI

the poor patriots...
they are so persecuted....lol...the poor refs are just picking on them....we should file a petition...
All of a sudden, Eli has woken up.
yeah, a good game
The Giants' offense looked good on the first and last drive of the half, and the KO return was huge. The Pats have scored on every drive, but three times held to FG, so the Giants' defense is bending but not breaking.
for a game that everyone is watching for the history, it is good football.
Man, the G-Men's O-line is good.
I absolutely hate the Giants
no way i would ever root for those losers.
by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 29, 2007 8:44 PM CST reply actions
whoa.
by Nelson @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 29, 2007 9:02 PM CST up reply actions
and the giants have a running game
after all
holy cow
that upset smell is getting stronger...
Wow jacobs looks like a beast
and Eli playing solid. I hope we don't have to face this version of the giants. But I expect Romo and the boys to step up their play a major notch when the playoffs start.
yeah, Eli and the team have been so inconsistent
but they've been on a roll lately, and are playing like it's a playoff game tonight. If we end up facing them it will be a battle.
one thing, because they are playing hard, this will make good scouting tape.
I think da loss of 2 starting O-lineman...
... against the Giants pass rush has been key.
Brady's been hurried and hit a lot this game, and that's a good D strategy against the Pats.
Make them go a long way, but only give up 3 pts... bend but don't break.
It's working so far.
Manning's playing like a #1 draft pick
Whether the Giants win or lose remains to be seen, but so far he's doing well tonight.
by Nelson @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 29, 2007 9:11 PM CST reply actions
keep in mind that the Pats
defense isn't that great, very overrated. The team is undefeated strictly because of their offense.
Good offenses can score on them and the GMen have a good offense.
true
by Nelson @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 29, 2007 9:25 PM CST up reply actions
when they're in sync
or when Eli is.
but you're right about the Pats' D
I bet the ratings for this game...
... will be off da chain.
duh (visualize palm hitting my forehead)
worth it
as it turns out.
these are two good teams playing well.
although I'm rooting for the upset, I'm not terribly attached to the outcome, and it is just fun to watch a good competitive ball game with teams playing at this level. definitely glad they broadcast it!
regardless of the final outcome
one thing this game shows (like the Eagles and Ravens and Colts, plus the Boys game as well) is that the Patriots are far from a lock on going to the SB, much less winning it. They're a great team, but being undefeated in all previous games doesn't make you invincible in the next game.
yup
They're great, but they're still human.
by Nelson @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 29, 2007 9:36 PM CST up reply actions
absolutely
there is no doubt in my mind they have a great shot of losing after tonight.
Jags, Colts and Cowboys are all great teams, I don't think they get by all 3.
if at first you don't succeed
try try again
Take 2. TD. Two records broken. Pats ahead.
Told ya
This team does not lose.
Everyone keeps saying the Pats are a team that can beaten. The thing is, no one has been able to do it.
they could still lose tonight
but the fact is they're an all time great team, and anyone trying to take that away from them just doesn't want to give them the credit they deserve.
sorry I was replying and got excited by the play
didn't mean to to post that as a reply.
they are a great team and deserve huge credit.
But they do have weaknesses, and if anything this shows that even a really great team, maybe the best overall team ever, still has to really fight to win some games. Even with their dominance, that shows that the idea of "parity" in the league still holds true.
Philosopher da Prophet!
they called the wrong team and the wrong number
and no idea what the foul actually was
Maybe it was Rick Romo.
figures.
by Nelson @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 29, 2007 9:58 PM CST up reply actions
Kevin Faulk is so clutch, yet so underrated.
Well, the Pats are the odds on favorite
I don't think anyone can beat them
by Philosopher on Dec 29, 2007 10:05 PM CST up reply actions
LOL! Crown Their A**es!!!
Records were meant to be broken. HISTORY!
Damn
Brady is really good, so is Moss...
Giants, well, i hate them...
by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 29, 2007 10:06 PM CST reply actions
I don't want to see anyone injured
on any team, but the fact is, another factor of this game is that because the Giants are playing their starters and playing to win, they have two injuries (Ohara and Madison) that could become significant for the Boy's in 2 (or 3?) weeks.
I give the Giants alot of credit
they could of mailed this game in, they had nothing to play for, but they game to play and gave their all to try to beat the Pats. You can get guys injured in practice, so just cant protect yourself completely.
yeah
that was very stupid...

Gumble
I know he irritates everyone, but I actually find him amusing. He cracks me up, he's such a dweeb.
He's horrible
Then NFL network has to get rid of him after this year, every media outlet is killing Gumball every week.
It's really kind of embarrassing
But still funny.
Gentlemen, we just witnessed NFL History.
at least they had to earn it with this game!
outstanding game to watch
The Nfl network has had some good matchup games this year scheduled. Congrats to the patriots.
Okay Terry!
One step closer to your dream of the 'Boys ruining their undefeated season instead ;-)
of course, neither are the Pats
they'll have their hands full probably with the Jags and Colts.
But I said one step closer, yeah?
And I'm concerned because...
... the Cowboys haven't really played well in the last three games (come-from-behind win @ Detroit, home loss to Philly and win on the road against Carolina).
I'm hoping the three weeks off not only is enough time to heal and recover, but also enough time to prep and get back to the way they were playing earlier in the regular season.
Brady is pretty good
The idiot Giants, this game meant nothing to them and they still played all the starters and lost (but I do give them credit for a good game, maybe since there was no pressure on them.) Now they have an injured center, injured LB and an injured CB. Way to go Coughlin.
So, ummm....
The amazing Patriots defense just gave up 35 points to the Giants.
Let's see, that's umm..., carry the zero..., exactly 0 points better than the Cowboys defense that has been bagged on all year.
Just saying.
well since we're just saying
7 of those points were special teams, Just saying! For the most part of the year, they've beaten up teams, every team has games where they've given up points, The Giants do have a good offense.
Pats D
i don't think anyone has ever said they have an 'amazing' defense...

fourth in the league in total defense
fifth in the league against the pass, tenth against the run, not too shabby at all.
Deke, you're really a Pars fan, huh?
come out of the closet already, don't be ashamed.
lol!
I'm not a Pats fan
I just have alot of respect for the game and a team that can play 16 games and win everyone of them, something that hasn't been done in 35 yeras, whether its accomplished by the Patriots or any other team in this league. Some always try to take away from what they have accomplished by using every excuse they can think of, whether to say that they CAN be beat, well, no one has to date this year, then its their defense isn't that great but they are fourth in the league, they are tied for first in the league for least points allowed they are a great team, period.
The playoffs is like a different season, anything can happen, a break here and there can change things, but when it comes to the Patriots accomplishments Terry, It reminds of John Malkovich's charater, in a telephone scene with Clint Eastwood's Character in the movie, in the line of fire, "SHOW ME SOME GOD DAMN RESPECT!!!!" The Patriots have earned their repect over the last seven years, you always call other mediots, morons, idiots, haters because they question the cowboys game and ask them to give respect to the cowboys, but the cowboys have yet to earn their respect of others. The cowboys had a chance to beat the Patriots at home and get respect, they failed, the cowboys are still a work in progress and not on the same level as the patriots yet, but they may get another chance......
they also get my respect for going 16-0, BUT
they can't be called one of the all time greatest teams unless they run the table in the playoffs and win the SB as well.
Personally, they've showed me enough flaws in their game that I don't think thats going to happen.
You can tell as they get closer to reaching that goal, they are starting to feel the pressure. Normally, they would have destroyed the Giants, we know they aren't that good, but they struggled to beat them.
I think they're going to feel enormous pressure in the playoffs and they're going to have to play some really good teams, most likely Jags, Colts and Cowboys.
If they can beat all those teams, then they can be showered with all the praise they will receive and deserve it, but my money says they don't do it. Winning 19 games in a row will be too tough.
Giants, Eagles, Ravens, Colts came close.
The Patriots can be beaten. The key is cutting down on turnovers and controlling time of possession. The Patriots are a great team, but not nearly the best of all time, IMHO.
The team has stayed healthy (key players such as Tom Brady and Randy Moss haven't misses a beat all year). The defense can be scored upon and is very good but not great.
O.T.: I could have done without a commercial for the NFL Network once every three minutes...Did anyone say "Support Our Troops"? Do the "Patriots" have any charities? Has Tom Brady ever given back anything?
If the Pats win it all, to me...
...they'll be the greatest NFL team of all time.
And this coming from a diehard Cowboys fan like myself.
This is just my humble opinion...
Focus please!
Did anyone else notice the NFL Network camera operators were unable to focus during the closeup shots?
