Giants/Patriots open thread

I'm rooting for the Giants hardcore. For some reason, I just can't stomach the thought of the Patriots going undefeated.

For one of the few times in my life - Go Big Blue.

hmm

this makes no sense. If the giants win, they go into the playoffs with immense confidence. They know they just beat one of the best teams, maybe ever, and that's a good thing for the Cowboys>?

Just bizarre.

they can have all the confidence they want

We swept them this season. I'm confident that we can beat any NFC opponent in the playoffs. I won't say it's guaranteed, but I'm not worried about a potential third match-up.

yeah, a good game

The Giants' offense looked good on the first and last drive of the half, and the KO return was huge. The Pats have scored on every drive, but three times held to FG, so the Giants' defense is bending but not breaking.

for a game that everyone is watching for the history, it is good football.

I think da loss of 2 starting O-lineman...

... against the Giants pass rush has been key.

Brady's been hurried and hit a lot this game, and that's a good D strategy against the Pats.

regardless of the final outcome

one thing this game shows (like the Eagles and Ravens and Colts, plus the Boys game as well) is that the Patriots are far from a lock on going to the SB, much less winning it. They're a great team, but being undefeated in all previous games doesn't make you invincible in the next game.

The idiot Giants, this game meant nothing to them and they still played all the starters and lost (but I do give them credit for a good game, maybe since there was no pressure on them.) Now they have an injured center, injured LB and an injured CB. Way to go Coughlin.

by Terry on Dec 30, 2007 9:51 AM CST up reply actions

I'm not a Pats fan

I just have alot of respect for the game and a team that can play 16 games and win everyone of them, something that hasn't been done in 35 yeras, whether its accomplished by the Patriots or any other team in this league. Some always try to take away from what they have accomplished by using every excuse they can think of, whether to say that they CAN be beat, well, no one has to date this year, then its their defense isn't that great but they are fourth in the league, they are tied for first in the league for least points allowed they are a great team, period.

The playoffs is like a different season, anything can happen, a break here and there can change things, but when it comes to the Patriots accomplishments Terry, It reminds of John Malkovich's charater, in a telephone scene with Clint Eastwood's Character in the movie, in the line of fire, "SHOW ME SOME GOD DAMN RESPECT!!!!" The Patriots have earned their repect over the last seven years, you always call other mediots, morons, idiots, haters because they question the cowboys game and ask them to give respect to the cowboys, but the cowboys have yet to earn their respect of others. The cowboys had a chance to beat the Patriots at home and get respect, they failed, the cowboys are still a work in progress and not on the same level as the patriots yet, but they may get another chance......

by Deke on Dec 30, 2007 10:27 AM CST up reply actions

they also get my respect for going 16-0, BUT

they can't be called one of the all time greatest teams unless they run the table in the playoffs and win the SB as well.

Personally, they've showed me enough flaws in their game that I don't think thats going to happen.

You can tell as they get closer to reaching that goal, they are starting to feel the pressure. Normally, they would have destroyed the Giants, we know they aren't that good, but they struggled to beat them.

I think they're going to feel enormous pressure in the playoffs and they're going to have to play some really good teams, most likely Jags, Colts and Cowboys.

If they can beat all those teams, then they can be showered with all the praise they will receive and deserve it, but my money says they don't do it. Winning 19 games in a row will be too tough.

by Tuna Helper on Dec 29, 2007 11:54 PM CST reply actions

Giants, Eagles, Ravens, Colts came close.

The Patriots can be beaten. The key is cutting down on turnovers and controlling time of possession. The Patriots are a great team, but not nearly the best of all time, IMHO.

The team has stayed healthy (key players such as Tom Brady and Randy Moss haven't misses a beat all year). The defense can be scored upon and is very good but not great.

O.T.: I could have done without a commercial for the NFL Network once every three minutes...Did anyone say "Support Our Troops"? Do the "Patriots" have any charities? Has Tom Brady ever given back anything?
