Sparano to Fins?
Looks like Bill wants Tony as the next head coach of the 'Fins.
Man, it would suck to lose Sparano (Miami?) and then to lose Garrett (Atlanta?) also.
On top of that we are going to lose Ireland to the 'Fins as well.
Parcells told Huizenga he doesn't want a coach that is worried about blogs or website interviews. He wants a tough-minded, hard-driven football man who is more concerned with football than facade. That is why Parcells has told Huizenga he covets Dallas assistant head coach Tony Sparano as a replacement for Cameron.
Because the Cowboys have a bye in the first round of the NFL playoffs, Sparano must be interviewed before Sunday. If the Cowboys make it to the Super Bowl, the next window that opens for a Sparano interview is the week between the conference title game and the Super Bowl.

yeah, Sparano is as good as gone
as is Ireland. Hopefully, Garrett stays, it would be really, really bad if we lost all three.

Sparano's loss isn't big
Our O-line hasn't played great in the run game, so Sparano leaving isn't a problem.
Garrett will get some interest but I think he'll stay atleast one more year.
I dont get Jerry's comment with regards to Ireland, Jerry should everything to keep this guy in the fold, not letting advance with another team. The time has come for Jerry to give up the GM title and let someone with football knowledge to run the draft and GM duties, that should be Jeff ireland. If Ireleand Leaves, then the puppeteer will be back running the drafts, and you know where that will get us.

Deke you should know better that will
never happen, Jerry is the GM so long as he owns the Boys.

Yes Terry, I do realize that
I can only hope before I take my last breath on this earth, that someone will take over the day to day football operations and the GM duties from the puppet master himself, Jerry Jones...

well, if you can out live Jones, you just might
see that day. More than likely it will be his son Stephen.

It is unfortunate...
That Jerry's ego will allow Ireland to leave Dallas for Miami. I sure hope this doesn't mean that the old director of scouting (lucky something??) doesn't return to the role (he was re-hired by Jerry last year).
There should be room for Ireland in the "Jones Family". He has done an excellent job, and Jones should recognize and reward a great young executive.
As far as Sparano, I think that would be a very strange hire on Parcells part. I know the talk, but is Sparano really qualified? What makes Bill think that Sparano would do a better job than Cam Cameron? Both had zero HC experience. The guys never quit on Cameron and Bill has history with Cameron. While I'm certain there will be a change in the front office (Mueller is an idiot), I would question of the source of this Miami Herald report.

lucky something!!!
What!!! And here I thought it was Jerry's skill to throw a Dart at a board with all the players in the draft on it to make the choice of who we're drafting.....

Its Lacewell and if he's rehired I'm already
on record saying I'll shoot myself. If Ireland leaves, hopefully Jones promotes Ireland's assistant, I think his name his Tom Ciskowski.

exactly Terry....he is the man...
He is the guy in the shadows that does all the fact finding, rechecking, and first hand evaluating.
Keep Irelands assitant Tom Ciskowski, and hopefully most of the staff...I have a feeling they'd rather be working for Jerry and a Championship caliber team than Parcells and a completely combustable situation in Miami...

its been reported everywhere
that Bill has fired Mueller already.

Yeah, Larry Lacewell...
Not "Lucky"...sorry!! =)
Jerry and Larry (sounds like a sitcom!) go way back and Jerry re-hired Larry a year ago in a reduced role. My concern is that this limited role will come full-circle and Lacewell will once again be involved in the scouting. It simply could not get much worse than our drafts in the late 90's and early 2000's!!

70 YEARS OLD!
Just did a little more research and Lacewell is 70 years old...so he's probably not the long-term solution!! Thank God!
See below....

SAN ANTONIO - There's an air of nostalgia surrounding this 2007 training camp, with old players and coaches around just about everywhere you look.
But Larry Lacewell's presence in particular is reminiscent of good times gone by.
See Lacewell, the shiny-topped, snow white around-the-edges former Cowboys director of college and pro scouting, is about as entertaining and likeable as they come, and there's a chance head coach Wade Phillips and team owner and general manager Jerry Jones may have brought the 70-year-old back for the laughs as much as the football insight.
Or was it all business, Coach Phillips? Just why is Larry Lacewell back this week, two years after retiring? How can he be of help?
"Lace?" Phillips said. "What does he think he can do for me, or what do I think he can do for me? If you know Lace, he thinks he can run the whole thing."
That's about right. Lacewell watched practice Wednesday and was quick to point out how much he liked all the guys doing well now when they came out in the draft.
"I really liked Leonard Davis out of college. If he plays well he could be a great player," Lacewell said. "I'm thrilled to see (Andre) Gurode really come along because we used a high draft choice on him. Glad to see (Jason) Witten play well."
The scout's still there in him obviously, since so many of those guys like to oogle about prospects. At least one player new to Lacewell made the old hand take notice.
"I got my first up-close and personal look at T.O.," Lacewell said. "And that was exciting."
Last year Lacewell helped out his buddy Gary Gibbs, New Orleans' defensive coordinator not even a year removed from the Cowboys linebacker coaching job, at Saints training camp. That seems to have worked out OK.
"I went down there, I got those Saints straightened out and we went on our way - I helped them as much as I could, and now I'm back with the Cowboys" Lacewell said.
The Cowboys can only hope Lacewell's presence has a similar effect on the team this year. Lacewell said he'll only be in town a few days though, and just plans on sitting in on scouting meetings.
"I'll go to meetings just enough to whet my appetite. Just watching is all I'm doing," Lacewell said. "I'm not going to mess anything up."
Lacewell retired in Jan. 2005 after 12 years in the scouting director position, sold his Dallas home and moved to Hot Springs, Ark. Every now and then though, and evidently it's about this time every year, Lacewell gets that football itch. Lacewell's good relationship with Phillips, forged decades ago in Texas football circles, and the Joneses played a big role in his short-term comeback.
"It's just about time I came back," Lacewell said. "The team has changed dramatically and I wanted to see the new guys. I've known the head coach a long time, I'm one of the older guys and he's not a spring chick either. We've known each other a long time, and of course I wanted to see Jerry and Stephen."
Phillips says he's glad to have old guys like Lacewell around, since an extra educated voice can only help.
"He's a football guy that observes things just like my dad," said Phillips, whose father Bum has attended the first practices of camp. "People like that you run across and if they say something you listen."
Especially if they're as fun and entertaining as Larry Lacewell.

I don't think Ireland leaves
Jerry's not going to jeopardize the success of this franchise over pride. Worst comes to worst, he'll stay as figurehead GM and give Ireland decision-making power.

PFT
says Jones has given permission for the Fins to talk to Ireland.
He will be hired by the end of the week is my bet.

Our Draft?
I thought that Jerry said Ireland was with us at least through the NFL Draft?
by Fargo Cowboys on Dec 31, 2007 1:18 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
According to PFT
First this from yesterday:
Despite reports that the Cowboys might try to delay the move until after the 2008 draft, the reality is that, if Ireland is getting final say over personnel, the Dolphins can immediately hire him.
And because Bill Parcells' contract makes clear the fact that he doesn't have final say, it's highly unlikely that the Cowboys will be able to block the move. Though no one believes that Parcells won't exert authority over Ireland, how is that any different than the authority than the owner has over his staff?
Then this from today:
Though some league insiders believed that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would fight, Jones in the end opted not to.
Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that the Cowboys have given the Dolphins permission to interview V.P. of college and pro scouting Jeff Ireland.
Per Glazer, Fins football poobah Bill Parcells is expected to offer the G.M. job to Ireland, and Ireland is expected to accept it.

He can't be hired
Until May, I believe. The scouting staff's contracts run from draft to draft.
by Or Moyal on Dec 31, 2007 1:24 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
yes, you're correct
I dont think Jerry will let him out until after the draft and his contract expires. Jeff Ireland should be the GM here, not jerry.

Peter King MMQB
King's MMQB a couple of weeks ago talked about Ireland and what kind of power he would hold in Miami. Parcells continues to state he doesn't want to be the HC or GM, but King was questioning why Huyzenga would pay $3M a year for the Tuna to be a consultant for the Dolphins.
I believe Parcells when he says he doesn't want to be a HC or GM anymore and that it's a "young mans game" (which was funny considering Phillips is just 4 years younger than Parcells). It's really a great gig for him, and he's also trying to set the Dolphins up with a structure similar to the role Scott Pioli's has with the Pats.
Jerry could challenge the hiring, but he sure sounds like he's eager for Ireland to move on. No different that when Jimmy was sent packing....Jerry is quick to demonstrate that he is ultimately the genius behind the recent success.

I think Ireland
will remain with us through the 2008 draft.Jerry as much as said so last week when he was quoted as saying thats why scouting contracts run through may.To me it would give the fins an unfair advantage to have our scouting director,on their staff ,after he'd been scouting for us all year.Almost like bringing in a spy, just for the draft,he could give away our strategy and what we're looking to do in this draft!
