Cowboys vs. Lions gameday open thread 12/9/07

Gameday Box and TV/Radio Notes

Dallas Cowboys @ Detroit Lions
Sunday, Dec. 9th, 2007
1:00 PM EST, TV: FOX
Ford Field – Detroit, MI

FOX is broadcasting the game to 40% of the country. You can see the local stations that will broadcast the game, here and see a map, here.  On DirecTV Sunday Ticket, the game is on channel 706.

Internet radio, here.

This is an open thread for real-time game chat.

My prediction: Dallas 48 – Detroit 13. Dallas seeks big-time revenge against a team that beat them then disrespected them last year.

Sorry Dunk

You got screwed this week, why the heck is anyone one going to watch OAK vs. any team?

by APerfectStar on Dec 9, 2007 10:45 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

it's a huge marketing error. Cowboys are leading all teams in viewer ratings this season. Go figure.

by dunkman on Dec 9, 2007 11:00 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I like the way this team

comes off extended time off, in this case ten days. Unlike some teams, they seem to play extremely well. Let's hope that trend continues.

I'm kocking on solid oak as I cautiously predict 38-24.

What's up with the purple shirt Romo?

Did anybody catch that on ESPN? They're also going to talk to our favorite pod-person about his future. Get your popcorn ready.

I thought the same thing Grizz

My theory is that it's because the last time the Lions faced an opponent in purple, they got hammered. A little psychological warefare.

Gotta be impressed with someone secure enough to wear a purple silk shirt...

by dunkman on Dec 9, 2007 11:01 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Hmm let's see..

Witten 2 TD's
T.O. 1 TD
Crayton 1 TD
Barber 1 TD
Toss in a TD for either Hurd, or TD Tony. If no TD here then replace with 2 FG's

Dallas 41
Lions 13

Lions lone TD goes to Calvin Johnson who will have a 105 yard game

I'm in jacksonville

so I'm off to a sports bar.  The only games I missed this season were the dolphins and Rams but now I don't want to miss anymore.  Blog on fellas!  Go Cowboys!!

by Billito on Dec 9, 2007 10:37 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

I won't go out on a limb like Grizz

But Kitna will be destroyed on offense. Throw in some fumbles and picks and the Boys should easily hang over 30 pts on the Lions.

I don't see the Lions scoring more than FG's in this one.

Cowboys 38
Lions 12

We get Oakland vs. Greenbay

here in Baltimore too....they couldn't find a better game?  It's not like either team has any impact on what the local teams are doing.

Stuck with Giants/Eagles

Gonna try to get some kind of internet viewing going at work.  Hopefully this works out better than the last time I watched a game at the office (I won't say when, let's just leave it at that).

Because I don't have the stones to be cocky against the lions, I'll say we win 34-28.  A W's a W.

Kenny Mayne is the weirdest person on ESPN
he just did a profile on Tony Sparano....with the cast of the Soporanos....with Tony Romo, Jason Witten and Mark Cuban recreating the famous last scene from the show.....kinda funny...

but definitely weird....

man, the 'boys are getting a lot of pub from ESPN....

there was the profile on Romo, then they sat down with T.O. this week, there's the Kitna-Newman-James fiasco....

by Tuna Helper on Dec 9, 2007 11:21 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Is anybody else worried in the least

about this game? I think we should win easily, but I'm still a little nervous about this one. We really need to get a lot of pressure on Kitna. I don't like our secondary against 4 and 5 wide sets.

by groves on Dec 9, 2007 11:23 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

I'm slightly worried

But this team isn't looking past the Lions AT ALL (and especially not after all the trash talk that has taken place this week). But We're flat-out better than the Lions, and should take care of business.

If we win the Super Bowl, then we owe Parcells a Gatorade shower.

by Nelson on Dec 9, 2007 11:28 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm worried for two reasons
  1.  I always worry.  Even against the Jets.
  1.  Weird things happen when we play Detroit.

Same feeling here. Here's to proving me wrong!

by dunkman on Dec 9, 2007 11:55 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I Can Give You a Third Reason

This is Dallas' Temple of Doom.  We've lost more bizarre, crazy games here (Kingdome and Ford Field) than any other place.  Ever.

We're 3-7 there since the Lions moved into the Kingdome.

1981 Lions kick a winning field goal on the last play of the game to win with 12 men on the field; Cowboys protest on the spot, but league cheerfully awards the win to Detroit.

1985 Dallas falls to pieces against mediocre Lions team, committing a slew of turnovers--this is usually how we lose to them.  Fumbles and picks galore.

1991 Dallas leads 10-3 and tries a long field goal on the last play of the first half.  Lions block it and run it back for a TD, and go on to win 34-10

1991 NFC Div Playoffs:  Only Lions playoff victory in the last 50 years, comes against...the Dallas Cowboys,  38-6.

2001, 2002  Detroit wins too weird, low scoring games by 15-10 and 9-7.

The good news is we smashed the Lions the last time we were there, in 2003, and one would think our offense would light up their woeful secondary like a Christmas tree.  Their offensive line also does not match up well against our pass rush.

But still, crazy things happen to us when we visit Detroit...

off-topic, but

The Steelers are going to get BEAT tonight. I hate to say it but that's going to happen. Mr. Smith pretty much sealed the deal with that 'guarantee' of his. The last time a defensive player shot his mouth off before his team met the Patriots? The Redskins got 52 points hung on them.

Detroit Has Always Been

one of those teams where if you jump on them early and get a lead, they seem to quit.  On the other hand, if they can be competitive early, crowd noise starts to be an issue, and false starts, sacks and turnovers result.

We need to score here, to get us back in the game.

Thank you for the jump start, Miles.

That may have been the most blatant pass interference penalty in the history of football.

by Mike05 on Dec 9, 2007 1:36 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

If they bump with both going to the ball
its fine.  You could just as very well have said the receiver was interefering with the defender, but the receiver was playing the ball as well.

In the case of Roy Williams he was playing the ball as well.  When the defender is playing the ball its almost like he is a receiver.

Burt-D

by Burt D on Dec 9, 2007 1:39 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Burt, just because he's palying the ball

you can't run through a receiver to do it. Watkins was coming forward while CJ was crossing the field and hit him, you can't do that.

but in the Watkins situation they both bumped into each other going for the ball, watch it again.

I did

CJ is going parallel to the line and has the angle for the ball, Watkins comes forward and bumps him. That's PI.

It looked to me like Watkins was in a better
position to make a play on the ball.  But whatever the refs agree with me and that is what counts.
Burt-D

by Burt D on Dec 9, 2007 3:59 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Also Watkins reaches out his hands for the ball
and the ball is closer to his hands than CJ's, if anything its offensive pass interefence on your boy.  Hopefully Pierra will explain that call on NFL.com then I can prove all you doubters right once again.  I SHALL BE VINDICATED!
