http://www.beloblog.com/sports/2007/02/aaron_glenn_return_to_texans.html
This article might just be gossip but it claims that Glenn is interested in heading back to Houston...I dont know how this could happen becuase I believe that Glenn is still under contract but its interesting..............................................

we're not drafting a corner

I suppose you know this
Don't give me this baloney about investing too much money in one position because I don't buy that for a second. The Cowboys have invested heavily in their LB corps, drafting OLB in back to back years.
If a corner is the best player on the board at 22, and Glenn is gone, you bet we're drafting a corner.

best player available!!!!
O-line or defensive end/outside linebacker will be our first pick. WE NEED A PASS CONSISTANT RUSH, thats our biggest problem, followed by a free safety, WHO CAN COVER UP FOR OUR PATHETIC STRONG SAFETY, then nose tackle on defense. On Offense, we need a right guard, a left tackle, since this will probably be Flozells last season, a backup center, a wide receiver and a fullback.

Dwayne Goodrich!!!!
Everyone blames Campo, it wasn't Campos fault at all, he was the pupper in the Jerry Jones puppet show, the team was in salary cap hell, poor drafts, poor free agent signings, poor trades( remember Joey Galloway)that where the blame falls on this organization, Jerry Jones was and is the problem with this organization as a GM.

Those days are long gone so give it up
And Wade Phillips is here to coach, he has too high of a pedigree and too much self respect to have Jerry tell him how to coach.

Oh I didn't blame Campo
The Post-Jimmy years were King Jerry's chance to prove that he was a "football guy," and boy did he fail miserably.
I'm glad he finally somewhat learned and forked out some cash to sign Bill Parcells, who has basically rebuilt this team.
My point is that I don't want us to REACH for a player just to fill a need.

For the most part, I agree with you Terry...
As others have mentioned, that changed when The King finally hired a previously successful HC in Bill Parcells AND they hired Jeff Ireland to help in the front office.

best player available is a myth
say what you want about "successful teams drafting this way" but if the pats had the number 4 pick in the draft and jamarcus russell were the best player on their board and still available would they pick him?
absolutely not.
if the best players on the board for us were: rd1 a qb, rd2 a te, rd3 a ss (who is great against the run but weak in coverage), rd4 a rb, rd5 a wr, rd 6 a punter and we got "real value" by picking those guys would it be a good draft? we would add the 6 best players available and leave our weaknesses unchanged.
there is a reason we usually end up going after OL's and CB's in the late rounds. parcells would take flyers on areas of need (and when parcells was reshaping the defense to a 3-4 was it coincidental he picked a bunch of fronnt 7 guys?) were they really the best available at the time?
in the age of free agency and salary cap, the teams that win allocate $ very carefully.
IN FACT, the teams that go after the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE these days tend to be the WORST TEAMS. Do you remember the Packers scooping up Aaron Rodgers (who was close to going number one overall) with the 24th pick? And who is that GM who isn't afraid to spend draft picks on his deepest position if a quality player slides... Oh yeah... Matt Millen.

fairy tale
The cowboys still have a few holes to fill, a pass rushing Defensive end/olb,Nose tackle, safety Guard,Backup center, left tackle, wide receiver, fullback, cb and another QB. The most pressing are Guard, Free safety, nose Tackle and Tackle

what I mean by best player available
The BPA theory says you don't reach for a guy based on need, you draft the a better player even if you are stocked at that position.
For instance, FS and OG are our biggest needs unless filled in FA. Lets say we don't and they remain our needs heading into the draft.
If the only FS or G remaining on the board at pick 22 are really 2nd or 3rd rd players, you don't pick them in the first rd because you need them. If the best player at that point is a DE, LB, WR, you pick one of them or trade down.
Picking for need causes teams to reach for players which end up being busts which is exactly what Jones did before Parcells.

After Scanning Your List
Could you imagine if Jimmy Johnson was still the HC at the beginning of your list up to now?
How many more playmakers would we have... not to mention how many more SBs would we have won!!!
That's astounding how much Jerry sucks as a talent evaluator.

BPA
I don't see what's wrong with taking a CB if thats the best talent at #22. Even if A.Glenn stays, he's still coming to the end of his career.

No one knows but me......
Look at J. Jones draft class, wee trade down for more picks and I thinks he's the only one left, and I've heard rumors of trade. Thats what we have to look forward to.

You have to take into effect that we also got a first round pick for 2005 which turned out to be Spears, plus because we traded our first round pick to buffalo, for which they picked Losman, we got bledsoe because buffalo cut him.So we have six players still on the roster, although Bledsoe will more than likely will be cut tonight.
As far as the draft goes, depending on what we do in free agency, I also can see us moving down, that wouldn't be a surprise.
