I was just thinking about how nice it might be to give up our extra 6th round pick and one of the extra 7th round picks for say an extra 3rd rounder. And if the buzz turns into reality concerning JJ - oh, what a first day it could be having 5 picks in the first 3 rounds.
But then again - it might just be more opportunity for Mr. Jones to make a mistake.

According to the above
When reading about the draft remember that 50% of the picks made each year are busts. It does improve our chances to have more picks but getting those picks for a player we otherwise want to get rid of makes sense and giving up an good player we like to get a pick does not make sense.

well put lee
i think that chart needs to be updated for the current cap.
we have to fill a 53 man roster and a practice squad. getting special teams play and back up play from 7th rounders and other second day picks for 4 years at near league minumum salaraies is a key to success these days.
i read somewhere that there have been as many 7th round guards making it to the probowl as their have guards picked in the first round in year one. i would rather see the team stockpile 6th and 7th rounders by the handful than get another second rounder.
a lot of formerly great strategies "draft the best player available" "keep your stars under contract"" stockpile high draft picks", etc are relics of thepre cap era.
second day guys like jaques green, jay ratliff, pat watkins, etc have played a very big role in ouur success especially from a return on investment perspective. put another way, if you want to keep newman we need a lot of second day picks.
