Breaking: Ken Hamlin visiting the Cowboys
Adam Schefter just reported that Seahawks safety Ken Hamlin will be visiting the Cowboys on Wednesday morning. He says it's a very logical match with Ken Hamlin and Roy Williams in the Cowboys secondary at safety.

Good news
Would be an excellent sign if we could pull it off and would give Watkins more time to learn the position.

Hamlin/Watkins would be a great safety pairing
Hamlin = great man-on-man cover safety that struggles playing in space
i ddon't think that matters

I agree

well
I really believe he has a good shot of being there at 22. Plus, if he's there at 18 or 19, JJ could easily trade one of our extra picks in the latter rds to get him.
True
It's still too far from the draft to get a really good read on how things will shake out.

I think Hamlins a better cover guy than Roy
IMO, because of Roy's inadequecies in coverage, we need an Excellent cover safety.
Is Hamlin excellent? No.
Would he be better than Pat Watkins? IMO, Absolutely.
That equals "sign Ken Hamlin" on my calc, but there I go spendin' JJ's money again. But ya can't take whatever money your under the cap with ya to next season, so I say "Spend it if ya got it!!!"
True, but
Geeeesh, just move the kid to OLB already and be done with it. If Roy is a square peg, then safety is a round hole.

Great comment
LOL... ROTFL!!!
Sign Hamlin with a 1 year out.
I expect the deal would essentially be a 3 year deal with an "out" after the first year in case a safety like Landry falls in our lap in the draft or the game slows down for Watkins and he ends up being a quality cover safety.
I'd prefer to draft a quality CB in the first round over a WR. There are so many quality WR in this draft that you could still end up with a nice player later in the draft. Besides, just ask Detroit how easy it is to bust on a first round wr.
If I was a betting man, and I am, I would bet that the Cowboys first two picks are on the defensive side of the ball and their third rounder will be OL. A WR will be a late round flyer. I'd expect CB,DE,OL.
With Roy playing Strong Safety you are gonna need a CB playing free safety (i.e. move Henry)

Agree with TBone and others
And who knows, maybe bringing in competition like Hamlin might bring the best out of Watkins.
By waiting so long to have Ken Hamlin in for a visit may have been a negotiating ploy since barely any teams really inquired about him. This could give King Jerry a chance to sign "the Hammer" to a more "economical" deal -- compared to the previous FA signings thus far.

IF Hamlin is signed
Not really
You have to ask yourself one question before you sign Hamlin. Will he stunt the progress of Watkins by signing him? Hamlin is good, but not great.
Owens 33 yrs. old
Glenn 32 yrs. old
Crayton, is nothing more than a good 3rd WR. He may also not be here next season because he will become a UFA next year.
Sam Hurd COULD become a good #2.
Austin is a project and may not be ready for a couple years.
The organization has to address WR this year. Meachem,Bowe,Jarrett should all be there when we pick at 22.
It has to be a consideration, if not we are almost certain to spend a high draft pick next year.

There's only one first round talent
Last year everyone was enamored with Chad Jackson, he couldn't crack the starting lineup on the patriots, who were in need of wide receievers, they think so much of Chad Jackson today, that they went out and signed three wide receivers in the offseason.
definitely not true
Jackson will be very good, he was hampered by a hamstring injury last season, thats why he wasn't as effective, plus he's a rookie. He'll be good in time. Thats why the Pats signed some vets, you have to give rookie receivers some time to develop.
I know the 'mocks' are saying Jarrett...
I also don't get how guys like Troy Williamson and Roddy White go Top 10, but then the same guys say Jarrett isn't worthy of such a high selection this year.
To that, I give a big "WHAT??!!"
Does he have the tools: good hands, size, speed and athleticism? Check.
Did he play against top-level comp at a big school? Big Check.
Did he play in a pro-style system? Another Big Check, as USC is damn-near NFL Triple A.
What's not to like about this kid??? To me, Jarrett would be an absolute STEAL for us at 22!!!

Disagree

Agree with Cowboy81
if you draft on a players forty times
if they're meaningless
Now it shouldn't be the decisive factor, production should be, but if two players are equally productive, playing at the same level, then I'm picking the faster guy.
Rememebr what Al Davis says, speed kills!
I prefer this line...

Cant teach Quickness!!!
Forty times are so over inflated, the ten and twenty yard time splits in the forty are the key as is the short shuttle times to determine a receievers quickness, quickness is the key to a receiver, not top end speed as the forty times measures. No receiever in a game runs forty yards flatout in a straight line down the field in a game.
If Player X runs a 4.59 forty and 4.15 short shuttle and player B runs a 4.39 forty and a short shuttle 4.25, who is the quicker receiver??
The key to determining the quickness of a receiver is the difference between the forty time and the short shuttle time, if the difference between the two times is more than four tenths, thats a measure of a receivers quickness, if its less than four tenths, its a measure of top speed, so player X (4.59-4.15=.44)is the quicker receiver and a more viable NFL player as thats a player that will be able to get open in the first ten to twenty yards from the snap than a player who has top speed like player B (4.39-4.25=.14) Short shuttle times is more important than forty times when judging a player, any player, although the media wants to make a big deal about forty times.
The other drill thats more important than the forty times is the receiever drills where you watch the receiver, turn catch a ball, turn, catch another ball and then runs along the twenty yard marker and catches balls while running full speed along the marker. Alot of the receivers either cant catch a ball at full speed, or cant run a straight line, and if they drop a ball, they end up dropping another, losing concentration.
Nah, I still like you can't teach speed
