Tuna Talks

So it seems our beloved former coach Bill Parcells is talking to someone from the national media:

Basically the q and a that garners the most attention is the first question.

Q. Are you definitely done with coaching, and would you consider coming back as a general manager?

A. No and no. I've been doing this since 1964. Do the math. There are guys — and I pay tribute to them, Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno — who keep going forward. I think college football is a little different than professional. It's more games and a longer season in the pros. I'm 65 years old. I've been doing it a long time.

I honestly think

that the Tuna is one of the most dubious coaches around.  He says one thing and does another constantly.  He seems to make a lot of his decisions based upon emotions, only to change his mind later on.

I dont think even God knows what this guy will do next.

I wouldnt be surprised if he coaches again.

Bill Parcells tells USA Today he would
Bill Parcells tells USA Today that he would consider coaching again

Q. At some press conferences last season, when your New York Giants teams were mentioned, you cut your answers short, saying, "Don't get me started about that." Why is that topic such an emotional tug?

A. It was the team I got started with. If it wasn't for a lot of those players, I wouldn't have been able to go forward in my career. I may have never been able to go as far as I have. I'm really grateful to them. I stay in touch with an awful lot of them. They were very special to me.

told you once a Gaint always a Gaint

he will be head coach in 08

Actually read his answers

No and no means he is not done as a coach and he is not interested in being a GM. That seems backwards to me but assuming he is successful in the booth I think he can be happy going to baseball spring training and doing the broadcasts.

As far as his decision to quit the Cowboys, that seemed to be a reasoned one based upon his energy level. He took enough time to be pretty sure he does not have it anymore.

heres what he said about Romo

Bill Parcells kinda, sorta gave Tony Romo a vote of confidence in a Q&A that ran in USA Today. The Romo-related excerpt:

Q. Tony Romo slumped a little at the end of the season. Are you still convinced he's going to be Dallas' long-term quarterback?

A. I think he has a chance to be. But I think there are things he has to do. I told Tony this before I left Dallas. I talked to him three or four times. There are certain things he has to do to improve. He knows what they are, and I won't make them public. I relayed my same sentiments to the quarterbacks coach, Wade Wilson

Screw Parcells and his bloated opinion of himself. At this point, who in Dallas really gives a flying rip what he thinks or says? He has proven himself to be a self-promoting, self-absorbed, pompous conman of the lowest order. Let him waddle off to New York where they still think he matters

Can somebody PLEASE tell me when Bill Paecells became a specialist at developing QBs ? If I remember, he drafted Phill Simms (average at best), drafted Drew Bledsoe (average at best), and brought Vinny Testaverde to the Jets (below average at best). Along with some others who were second stringers, what great QB did he develop? Not one. So why then does he think his opinion about Tony should even matter? That's what I thought. You watch and see. Jason Garrett will develop Tony into the QB that Bill Parcells was totally incapable of! !

Simms was a great qb

You don't know much about playing qb if you think Simms was average at best.

In Romo we Trust

I have to agree

neither Bledoe nor Simms was average. Back in the day, whenever the Cowboys were out of the hunt I would follow the Giants and I watched a lot of Simms. Despite not having the strongst arm in the game, he was excellent - accurate, smart, clutch. If anything, Parcells held him back a bit by dilling him for every mistake.

So, yes, Parcells could probably have done a beter job bringing Simm along, but there was nothing wrong with the product.

I dig the loyalty, but...

Of course there are things Romo can do to improve.  Each of us probably has some thoughts on the matter, in fact.  Why rip Parcells for giving some constructive advice, especially since Romo came up under him and respects him immensely?

My gripes with Parcells are on defense; I think he did a good job handling Romo and developing our offensive players overall.  Romo was still having success at the end of the year, even as defenses had adjusted to him.  Given the time defenses will have had to adjust to him, he will have to improve some things just to stay as productive as he was.  But I will confident he will do that and more.

I think

both cases - offense and defense - reflected Parcells' coaching style. He relied heavily on statistics and probabilities to make decisions. And of course my pet theory on defense... none of his coaches understood HIS system, and it's too much for a HC to try to run the team and coach the coaches and players at the same time.
