ESPN Reporter Ed Werder Quote by Peter King
Hello everyone,
I have only been registered on this blog for a short time, but I just read Peter King's Monday Morning Quarterback on CNNSI. I just thought I would share this with you.
Did anybody see Ed Werder down at San Antonio Training Camp reporting on the Cowboys? I just saw this on CNNSI from Peter King:
Speaking of ESPN, a great note from Ed Werder before the Cowboys-Colts preseason opener -- the first tackle Dallas made in the game would be their first full-contact tackle of the summer, because Wade Phillips hadn't had the team in any full-contact situations yet. Amazing in this day and age that full-speed tackling is very rarely practiced in camps around the league. Even in tradition-loving places like Pittsburgh (one practice), Buffalo (two practices) and Chicago (two practices), I saw zero put-'em-on-the-ground tackling drills or full-contact tackling.
I don't believe Werder knows what he is talking about. Or Peter King is deaf and can't read lips. Talk about the bias (I already know it is)! But this is ridiculous!!
As far as I know, following this Blog, DMN Blog and Cowboys section, and Shango videos, the Cowboys have a few hard hitting practices, didn't they?

I believe all four of you were there.
Is Head Nerder and Burger King correct with this statement or is this another case of outright MSM lies?
Thanks for bringing this up, DaveTroll. I read this too, and I was set to address it here, as well...

same as last year
There was lots of hard hitting (including two concussions). But they never took anyone to the ground tackling.

Training Camp
Well, I can't say that I have ever been to a training camp, so maybe I am misinterpreting what was said. But it just seemed to be a slam against how the Cowboys were preparing for the season.

I went to camp in 2003
and I didn't see Parcells having any practices where the defense tackled players like they would in real games. I think Werder is right.

Yep he's right
I was only there for 3 practices (and 2 were without shoulderpads), but I think Ed is right.
There was definately a lot of hitting going on, but once the ball was caught or the second level was reached, defensive players backed off and the offensive players chopped to the endzone.
Luckily I don't remember a lot of bad tackling from the Cowboys last year, so I don't foresee it being a problem

Yezzir
I was there for the first 3 days, and as everyone has said before...there was indeed hitting going on, but nothing too strenuous. Just acting as another witness.
