the ugliest screen ever.

Hey Grizz
Can you give us an update on how Carp looks at OLB and Ratliff looks at NT? Those seem to be the back up battles / potential question marks that havent been discussed much today.

dont do that to yourself.
sending 4 hours to determine that the highlight of the game is that McBriar is squaring up to the runner better than he was last year is no way to spend a sunday.

Zero DB Depth
Our defense is in trouble.
With an injury to Newman or Henry this year and our secondary is swiss.
Did anyone watch the Lions game last year when Henry was out. There was a play when Aaron Glenn was covering Roy Williams. Jon Kitna, called an audible and everyone in the stadium knew where he was going cause he was pointing. I think maybe there was not a formal audible, he just shouted.."throwing to Roy..throwing to Roy". Lil Aaron Glenn was no match for Roy Williams (like Andre Johnson last night) and it was the easiest 6 points the Lions scored all year. The whole Lions sidelines was laughing after the play. I forget how many points they put up on us that game..but it was sad.
Also for the MB III lovers..Julius Jones looks more motivated to me this year. He's hitting the holes and getting some tough yards. I also noticed he's getting more dump off passes..
Romo was off lastnight. I still haven't bought off on the Romo-mania. I like the kid and he's exciting to watch..but so was M Vick. I am still steaming that we didn't go after Brees. Oh well..at least Jerry Jones isn't drinking the Koolade either. He can get whoever he wants next year.

maybe
if the DL gets after the QB the 2nday will look better. my fear is that the defense has shown almost no ability to get after the QB. i love ratliff but am despondent that he may be our 2nd best pass rusher. think abou tthe implications of that for a second -- or second best pass rusher may be a 7th round draft pick and former TE who cant manage to get on the field.
as for Romo, I am not as dark as you are, but I am concerned about his total inability to hold onto the football. he does lots of things well and has moments of absolute brilliance, but he makes the football look like a greased pig. i have a feeling that Garo Yepremian buys cowboys season pass just to watch romo and say to whoever is watching: "see its harder than it looks"

I think he wasn't ready for the snap
It appeared to me that he was still looking over the D when the snap came. There was a lot of that going on.

if romo
did drop balls more often than TO I would look the other way.
individual cases are always ok, its just in sum total the number of drops is too much. he must improve.

Of course
But think about it. Every dropped ball by either of them gets the instant commentary because of last season. Romo was the best player on offense last night. He needs some help from guys being paid considerably more than he's earning at this point. I think Romo is going to be great this season, but some of the other guys? Not convinced yet...

TO was the best player on offense last night
Great TD and he got behind the defense 2 other times and was underthrown.
If Romo was on his game TO would have had 3 TD's, the team woudl have won, and Romo would have been the best player on offense.

Blah
I should not be so inordinately bummed out by a preseason game. But it bothers me that we seem to be back--although to be fair I only have 3 preseason games to judge by--to the old inconsistent play. You never know which Cowboys team you are going see week to week.
Some thoughts:
- Romo needs to be more consistent.
- We desperately need help at CB. I have no doubt, barring any unforeseen catastrophic injuries this year at another position, that we will use one of those first round draft picks next year on a CB if one is available in the first round.
- I think I have given up on Spears.
- Folk will get the kicker job. Hope he can handle high pressure kicks.
- Mat McBriar is a stud.

I thinkwe have all given up on spears
I think Spears wife has given up on him.
My only regret is that we will ut him (or not re-up him) in 2-3 years and he will end up playing for someone else and being effective (or even good).
It's a shame teams arent allowed to banish a high draft pick from football permanently once a decade.

I feel like Ratliff could be an excellent
starting DE if given the chance. And he may get his chance soon if Spears doesn't pick it up.
Man what was Parcells thinking wanting to draft him over Ware.

Grizz I am really worried about our starting DE's
please give us something to be optimistic about in that regard in your film review.
Oh yeah and expect to have your behind handed to you on a silver platter in fantasy football!!!

Roller Coaster
2 plays framed the first half for the Cowboys (punt return, Ahman Green run). Other than that they played decent in the first half. Roy Williams non tackle on Ahman Green was disgraceful.
2nd half they had some spark. Texans last touchdown does not count in the 4th quarter in my back.
Some on this forum either are giddy or suicidal. If we looked like Denver last week then I would have worries. This was the Texans superbowl, Cowboys were some what flat and flatter after the punt return.
If they show up against the Giants like this then I will be suicidal.

there are far worse things
than an uninspired preseason performance.
i think if the front 7 puts pressure on the QB then the 2ndary looks better. add newman to the equation and the secondary could actually be pretty good. i was listening to the game but from the sound of it the CB's were getting torched b/c the qb had too much time. it sounds like FS play was better and CB improves dramatically once Tnew is back.
my concern was the front 7's inability to play against what has been a very weak front 5 in houston. if its the heat and motivation we are ok. my only concern is that the front 7 has 1 no show, 1 ok showing and 1 good performance. unfortunately the good performance was against a VERY depleted denver squad.
coverage units have been awful, but i would think they can fix that. or hope. please...

Ha!
I was able to listen to the game on the internet, and still get my "boogie" on.
Best night ever, if the Cowboys hadnt played like the 1993 Saints.
