Ranking the Boys
This isn’t college football so the polls don’t mean anything. Besides, in the NFL, they aren’t called polls, they’re called Power Rankings. But for fun, here’s what three big media sites say about the Cowboys in this week's Power Rankings.
#5 Let's get this straight: Wade Phillips is a defensive-minded coach. That means the Cowboys defense should be salty, right? Oops, 35 points allowed to the Giants. Luckily for the Cowboys, Tony Romo and the offense was more productive.
#4 Tony Romo lit up the Giants, which is a good sign. Eli Manning lit up the Cowboys, which isn't. The Terence Newman injury could be a lingering problem. That would hurt.
#11 Though the Dallas defense didn't remind anyone of the Steel Curtain or the '85 Bears, the Cowboys offense was working on all cylinders against the Giants. Tony Romo threw four touchdown passes and rushed in another as the Cowboys showed they were the class of the NFC East. If there's any reason for concern, it's the Cowboys' defensive backfield. Eli Manning torched Dallas for 312 yards and four touchdowns.

With the way our defense has been playing
11 is about right.

Sagarin Ratings
If anybody's curious, the Sagarin computer rankings have Dallas as number 11 as well.

Football Outsiders Rankings
5th unadjusted, and 19th including their preseason projections.
Offense is ranked 1st... I won't mention the defense's spot.

11th?
Right now, I would put the Colts, Chargers, and Patriots ahead of the Cowboys. The Bengals and Bears are also in the mix, so I think Dallas is around 4-7 after this weekend. The Saints, Eagles ,Broncos and Ravens are behind us, imo.

I can't put the Saints officially behind us
until we avenge that loss from last year. The Broncos might be above us as well. What about the Bears - I guess we will find out soon......

I agree with the 11th spot more than the 4th...
But the high votes are for a very real reason: our offense is for real. For all the concern I have about our defense, this offense is nothing short of amazing.
Cowboys' defense will get better, but until it does, we are not deserving of a top-5 spot.
These rankings take the steam out of anyone that likes to rip the national media for their lack of love for the Boys. I like the optimism, but we have yet to prove it on the field. We could have lost that game to a Giants team that is headed south.

Just a thought!!
Didn't last years SB champs have some questions in the def area last year? Yes I do recall it was largely due to a few key players being hurt...That being said I would say it would be hard judge our D until we see them play with all our guys in there.

Boys-Yankees
The Cowboys are like the Yankees in this way. The national media in general overrates them -- when either team succeeds, it's big news. So top-five ratings don't surprise me. It's in the hearts and minds of most individual writers and announcers where they're disliked. If you read the implications of announcers during most any Dallas game you'll come to this conclusion. Like how the crew Sunday was loving how much heart the Giants showed hanging in there, and had a total boner about Eli's performance after Jacobs went down.

Wonder if the Pats
108 yd kickoff return prompted that?
Good for Elam, I liked him, wished he could have made our roster.

Yeah i like him too
I'll be rooting for him when we take on the Jets... as long as we still win.
