Greg Ellis given his restructured contract
I wonder if the fact he had his contract in hand was a motivation in him playing today.

"If things didn't go well today," Ellis said, "what Jerry did was show me that they just weren't going to throw me away like trash."
Earlier this week, Ellis told coach Wade Phillips and Jones that he wasn't healthy enough to start the four-game process. On Saturday morning, Jones arrived at Ellis' home and hammered out a deal, which had to be finalized by 3 p.m. to go into effect for Sunday's game.
Cowboys/NFL"He had some insurance issues about this injury that were compromising him, and it took us to about 2:59 to take care of those issues so he could go out there and compete without worrying about it," Jones said. "He had been wanting to get out there; our agreement let him do it."

Very nice
One of the few times when I think a holdout is reasonable. I assume from the story that Jerry Jones guaranteed him as much money as he would have received from the insurance if he does not get it. Thanks Jerry.

holdout
without guaranteed contracts, I think a holdout is very reasonable in a lot more instances. Look at what happened to Javon Walker a couple of years ago.

Class act
You know, it's times like these (and when looking at the Romo contract stories) that I'm reminded of how truly decent Jerry Jones is as a football owner. Guys like Snyder or Lurie would have made Ellis play and throw him out like garbage if something did happen to him; they routinely cut the guys who have paid their dues without so much as a goodbye. It's nice to know that Jerry can give the players the security and money they deserve without totally losing that compass (and still keeping us in good cap shape). It's probably a big reason why former players stay in the "Cowboys family," even those that came in as free agents.

I'm with you
I think he's as loyal as an owner can be and still run a successful franchise.
