I just finished reading a few media stories regarding Garrett staying with the Cowboys. Nearly every story included the phrase "Jerry opened his checkbook" to keep Garrett around. What they fail to point out is that Phillip's contract and Garrett's contract combined equals what Jerry would have had to shell out if Parcells would have stuck around, or if he would have courted a high profile coach like Bill Cowhler. Under this structure, Jerry has a proven defensive mind and an up and coming offensive mind to go along with a 13-3 season proving that these two can work together towards one common goal of winning football games (and hopefully playoff games going foward!).
