NFL Draft Prospect Profiles
Been watching all the Senior Bowl coverage on the NFL Network and I had an idea. Based on everything I saw during the season, there are a lot of college football fans around here. Given that, why don't we all give out something along the lines of a prospect profile for the players on our college football teams?
I know that there are probably very few of us that are profesional talent evaluators. But I also think that somebody that is totally commited to one team is probably more knowledgeable about that one team than those "draft experts" that have to cover all 32 teams.
For instance, I am a Horn fan so I could do a profile on Jamaal Charles. It would look something like this:
Jamaal Charles- 6'1", 205
Age 21 (underclassman)
40-4.2 (unofficially)
Projection- mid 1st-early 3rd
2007 stats-
Attempts Yards AVG. LG. TDS.
258 1619 6.3 86 18
Pros-Very fast back with breakaway potential the Cowboys aren't used to. Personally, I see him going near the end of the 1st round after the Combine. Charles was actually at his best running up the middle and breaking through into the secondary as opposed to taking it to the outside every snap as somepeople suggest. He has even been considered a power back.
Cons-While he was very good in a limited role as a freshman, he had a mediocre sophmore campaign and has had only one true season as a starter.
Its meant to give us all more information on kids entering the draft that somepeople know more about than others.

4.2?
The guys fast, but he isn't 4.2....that's nearing the Urban Legend of Deion's 4.19 sec 40. At the very best, I would guess 4.35-4.40 speed.

Has a RB over 200# ever...
...ran a sub 4.30 at the NFL Combine?
We hear about all these crazy 40 times at the Pro Day Workouts. I believe Trung Candidate ran a 4.17 on grass and Michael Bennett ran a 4.13 on the Badger turf, but does anyone have any memory of a RB over 200 lbs. running sub-4.30 at the NFL Scouting Combine? (understanding that most top rated players do not participate in the NFL Combine)
I will say this...if Charles does run under 4.30 next month in Indianapolis, he will be drafted in the first round (possibly top 20) come April. I for one do not expect him to run under 4.35. In fact Charles will not even be the fasted RB in the draft (Chris Johnson, ECU).

Good point
This reminds me of the year U of Washington claimed to have 4 guys in the secondary running a sub 4.2 or something.
SI did a feature where they showed the 100m dash championships that year and took a picture at 4.2 and drew a line at the 40 yard mark.
According to UW's claim they had 3 guys who would have been in the top 6 at the 100m dash.
A lot of these time are inflated? Deflated? Let's say exagerated.

TOO. MUCH. MONEY.
Especially if Barber gets the big contract he deserves. We're talking 35-45 Million in gauranteed money in our backfield.
No thanks.

going after DMac makes no sense at all if
we sign MB3 to a long term deal and even if we don't, I actually would rather draft Stewart as a feature back than DMac. He's just a taller version of Reggie Bush.

You took the words right out of my mouth...
Remember two years ago, Bush was the hottest thing since sliced bread (I wonder what was great before sliced bread?), and now he may just be nothing better than gimmick RB.
DMac's skinny little legs and his straight up style scare me.

I'm a Pitt season ticket holder so I'll do
Jeff Otah from Pitt. He's just a mammoth tackle at 6-6 340, built a lot like Flozell. I view him as a boom or bust type prospect who either is going to make your draft or break your heart.
Physically, this kid has everything you want in a LT prospect, size, strength, quickness, athletic, however, he's a JUCO transfer and only has played 2 years against D-1 competition. Also, he gets real lazy at times and word is he doesn't have a great wotk ethic. I noticed when watching him this season, he seems to be a real road grader at run blocking, but tends to get lazy and get beat by quick pass rushers sometimes.
I wouldn't draft him in the first round, but if slips into the second, I'd jump all over him. Could be another Flozell.
