mel kiper makes it official....
mock draft season has started.
Looks like he has the cowboys going offense, and more precisely big 10 offense. mario mannigham with the browns pick and rashard mendenhall with our own. I am all for us picking either one of these guys with one of our picks, but it just seems like if the good 'ol best available players happens to be either an interior lineman or defensive back, its gonna be hard to take two offensive players right out the chute. Like i already implied, i like both of his picks for us as we need to get younger at the WR position and need more depth at the RB position. http://sports-ak.espn.go.com/nfl/dra...
U have to be an espn insider to go to the link on ESPN's website and i am not. I actually caught the order and mel's forcast on the crawl while i was watching espen earier today. Can u sign MB3 long term and go ahead and draft another RB that early? i watched mendenhall once or twice this year and would be all for drafting him. this looks like a deep draft for good RB so i would take advantage. i think sweed would be avaialble if you longhorn fans prefer him over mario, and felix jones looks to be gone before we pick at all.

I think Manningham would be a horrible pick

I rather take my chances with
Arrington - he will have more impact on the WR postion than Manram -
Manram a bust

Love Manningham - not with first two picks though

I have a question about him...
..for all you fellow BTBer's.
Doesn't Mario Manningham remind exactly of the type of receiver who flames out after 2-3 years? Guys who are known more for their speed, maybe played at big schools, but disappeared at times in big games?
I don't know. It could just be the games I saw him in, but I really don't like the idea of that pick. I'm still holding out hope for a Felix Jones-Leodis McKelvin combo (since Talib's one pick in the BCS Bowl game seems to elevate him to a top 15 pick...dang it!).
Trade the 2nd or the 3rd and a player for Roy Williams, (the reciever) and use the other pick on a RB.

Meachem was bigger, but still a bust

too early to call Meacham a bust
he was on IR last season (his rookie campaign).
in sean payton's pass-happy system, i expect him to make an impact in about two years (if he can stay healthy and stay in shape).
by kcbrett5 on Jan 25, 2008 8:19 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
you might be right thats its too early
to really label him a bust, however, he had injury issues in college and now he's placed on IR his rookie season. Everything up to this point seems to indicate he's a china doll and won't ever see the field that much.

true. plus, he reported to camp overweight.
what i just don't get is how extremely gifted players receive these huge signing bonuses and multi-million dollar contracts, and they don't feel an obligation to show their appreciation to the owner/coaches/teammates by working hard (conditioning/nutrition/off-the-field decision making/playbook/practice/film room/treatments/etc).
that's one of the main reasons why i love DeMarcus Ware. He gets it, and he pushes himself every off season to get better than the year before.
players like Shaun Rogers and what's been seen thus far of Robert Meacham bug me, because they could be so much better if they had the same mentality, the same work ethic, and the same dedication as Ware.
i love me some D-Ware!!!

yeah, we got really lucky with Ware
one of those truly special players that come along once a generation.

Meachem wasn't ever on IR...
He just wasn't activated all year... Payton got really upset with him over showing up to camp overweight, and then really soured on him once they found out Meach hadn't said anything about a knee injury that had been lingering since well before the combine... Combine that, and his inability to figure out the playbook, and it was a very rough year for Meachem... He's got all the skills though. Maybe this year serves as a wake up call...

What is with you and busts?
A guy is not a bust before he even sets foot on an NFL field...

I wouldn't bet on Jones being gone
RB's have a way of dropping in the draft. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there is already talk of some "hidden gems" catching the eyes of scouts, and we haven't even hit the combine yet. Someone like Joseph Addai comes along and runs better than expected and the next thing you know you have an Emmit Smith falling into your lap.

we traded up
because he fell to a spot where the value to trade up was there.

We need a veteran WR
I understand the need to get younger at WR...but this roster is built to win now. The learning curve is great for a young WR. Let's add a veteran like the Pats did. Someone like Bernard Berrian or Roy Williams or Chad Johnson to really make this offense fly. And in the first round we can get a pass catching/speedy Brian Westbrook-type of RB who can make an immediate impact and really make our offense dynamic.

veteran WRs
I think we're going to land one of the following WRs in FA or via a trade.
Roy Williams
Javon Walker
Bernard Berrian
Chad Johnson is out because the Bengals have made it perfectly clear they are not trading him whether he wants out or not. Williams and Walker are on the trading block however.
by Terry on Jan 25, 2008 9:58 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
you can take Javon Walker off the list too
He's already stated that he'd like to stay in denver. Berrian or Florence, I think one of those two are on the cowboy radar.
Wait a year when Roy Williams is a free agent

Plus, I'm a lil iffy on Walker's troubling knee

Thought I read a rumor
That the Cowboys were interested in DJ Hackett from SEA, but he seems to be hurt a lot.
I'm still interested in Bryant Johnson from AZ. If we go for a mid range FA WR.

I've been thinking about it...
I wonder if Berrian isn't exactly like Stallworth (minus the health issues). Fast guy, definetly a deep field threat, but not a true playmaker in that teams don't scheme to stop him. He would fit here, I suppose, and take TG's role (but he doesn't have the hands that TG has).
But I think I remember hearing Berrian asking for No.1 receiver money. He's definetly not worth that. Go get Stallworth for less than half the cost instead if you are that concerned about speed.

Stallworth is on the Eagles radar...
as a number 1 receiver for McNabb. I think you can scratch him off the list. Berrian too much dropsies for my taste. Honestly our search for a WR is an overreaction to one bad game by Crayton imo. Our offense was just fine with him as the no. 2. The only real issue we had at times last year was the run game so we should address that first before WR.
by albyman32 on Jan 25, 2008 3:54 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
As long as TO was healthy...
Crayton was serviceable as a number 2 guy. But we need to plan for worst case scenarios and have a stronger number 2 who is capable of stepping up in case TO is injured and Crayton can't do that.
I was sick when the Dolphons traded Chris Chambers to the Chargers. We sure could have used him this year.
by BulletBob on Jan 25, 2008 4:12 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I agree BulletBob.....
It totally blew me away when I heard about that trade....I wonder if Chambers was shopped around to ALL teams......I for one, would of handed over our 2nd round pick in a heart beat for Chambers. If Jerry was offered that same deal and passed...he's an azz....

Stallworth was
already on the Eagles roster and they chose not to resign him.
As long as Reid is the HC they will never get a true #1 WR.

1st round picks
draft the best cornerback with pick 22, felix jones or rashard mendenhall with 28 and trade a 2nd or 3rd pick for a veteran wide reciever in their prime somebody tall with speed,or go the free agent route for wide reciever, we already have a young project in isiah stanback, we need to be ready to roll next year.
