Campo camping out in Dallas

PrintThe Cowboys had Dave Campo in for an interview today and they were nice enough to take the guy out to lunch.
Around 1 p.m., head coach Wade Phillips, offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, defensive coordinator Brian Stewart and Houck took Campo to the Mi Cocina in Los Colinas for lunch. After returning to Valley Ranch with the group, Campo left the complex to see his daughters and grandchildren, who live in the area.
Campo is camping out in Dallas in case he gets the call.
Campo will spend the rest of the week in the Dallas area with his family. Multiple sources have maintained that Campo and his wife want to return to North Texas, where they raised their children.
Here’s what he had to say about things.
"I have a great feeling for the Cowboys in general. Once you're a Cowboy, always a Cowboy," Campo said as he left the complex. "Nothing has been done. But I feel very comfortable with Wade. And I'd like to leave it at that."
According to this Philly paper, T.O. owes the Eagles $769,000. It all has to do with the signing bonus he got when he went there and then he was suspended, the Eagles kept his paychecks, the player’s union objected and T.O. lost. It’s all very complicated but just read the article if you want the details. Plus, you get another dose of bitterness from the Philly sportswriter.
Former Cowboy Jim Jeffcoat is back in coaching.
Former Dallas Cowboys assistant coach and player Jim Jeffcoat has been hired to coach the Houston Cougars' defensive line.

am i wrong to feel leery about Campo coming back?
Just seems like the hands of Jerry Jones is again meddling. I hate that term. And I know JJ gets accused of it a lot. But just seems like no one was talking about Campo until the big Tuna left the building.
yes, I think Campo is a great DBs coach
he also was a very good DC when he was here as well. JMO, but I think a very big reason he didn't succeed as a HC was lack of offensive talent. He had an aging Emmitt Smith and thats it, our offense had no talent to speak of in 2001 and 2002. His defenses always played scrapy though.

It's amazing how talented players can make a coach look good... and vice versa. Unfortunately for Campo, he was in the midst of the King's bad drafts and the organization trying to get out of salary cap hell -- again thanks to the King signing ridiculously expensive contracts to aging vets who wasn't with the team anymore... not to mention the stoooopid Joey Galloway trade, giving up two first round draft picks for the underachieving WR.
you're right silverblue, players do make coaches
look better or worse than what they really are. Isn't it funny how Belichick all of a sudden became a great coach when he coaches one of the greatest QBs of all time, not to mention many other talented players Scott Pioli acquired for him.
I can remember how awful his teams in Cleveland were and thats because his players sucked. Belichick is a great coach, but he wins because of his players and he'd be the first to tell you that.
its all about the players
Campo was underated as a coach.
He had a thin roster.
No one could have done much better with the talent Campo had.
Except maybe Bill Parcells who won 10 games with the same team.
King my butt Jerry is the Jester and he is welcoming back his court.
if you look at the rosters
they weren't the same team. Parcells added some key players during that 2003 season that Campo never had such as Newman, Singleton, Witten, Campbell and Ryan Young, all significant upgrades at those positions.
Plus, during the 2003 season, Carter rededicated himself and played very well that year, while 2001-2002 saw a revolving door at the QB position with the likes of Ryan Leaf and Clint Stroener.

adjusted for all that campo did a great job. probably better than parcells did with his vastly different roster.
in fact all parcells really did was teach jerry how to be a top GM, luckily we get to realize the fruits of that for decades to come.
I think Parcells has proven over the years
he's a much better GM than a coach and you're right, he taught Jerry very well.
Regarding Campo and Parcells as coaches, I can tell you that there is no way Parcells would have done any better than Campo with 2001-2002 rosters. Campo might have been Jerry's puppet and didn't have Parcells' wisdom in the aquistion of talent, however, he coached every bit as well as Parcells ever did.

Sometimes I like to see how far Terry go.
So far I havent found a positive staement about the Cowboys he won't agree and take a step further.
