Parcells going after Flozell and Hamlin next?
DMN Blog is reporting now that Parcells has raided our scouting department and coaching staff, he will move next to our players and Adams and Hamlin might targets.
Miami is in the market for a free safety. Ken Hamlin wants a big contract after playing for the relative bargain price of $2 million and change last season. Hamlin also has a ton of respect for Bowles.
LT Flozell Adams is a Sparano guy, so it wouldn't be stunning if he decided to rejoin his O-line coach inMiami.
This scenario does makes sense so it wouldn't surprise me at all if Parcells offers them big contracts if we can't re-sign them before the start of free agency in March.
I think it would be devasting to lose both players because I really doubt we can effectively replace both players by other free agents, rookies or even current backups on our roster. McQuistan, Free or Watkins might be players someday, but they are no where the caliber of these 2 guys.
Hopefully Jerry will start negotiating hard with both of their agents after the combine to get deals done before Parcells comes after these guys really hard.

Loose speculation
without facts, or even a hint of a rumor, to back it up. Blah. You might as well throw darts at a dartboard and write it up as an article.
true but...
seeing how Tuna has raided our coaching offices, i think it's legitimate to wonder out loud would he try and raid our players. he's done it everywhere else he's been. although it's different now because he's not a coach or a GM....
I see the silly season is in full gear
consider yourself SUCKED!!!!
Just ignore all these speculations, rumors, feelings, wishes, its all a bunch of garbage....
Anything that's going to happen in the offseason, someone is going to try to make it about Bill in Miami and Jerry in Dallas....
Lets at least wait until after the Super Bowl
to start speculating on trade possibilities. I read this article, it's nothing more than some writer seeing one team's needs, another's Free Agents, and building an imaginary bridge between the two.
He knows anything with Jerry Jones, Bill Parcells, trade, Free Agent, and Cowboys will cause all sorts of hoopla to follow.
I meant to say
Free Agency, not trades.

Football News Gets Slower This Time of Year
Tuna wouldn't want Flo....
Tuna harps on mental toughness....Flo used to give Tuna heatburn with all his mental errors(false starts, etc), plus I'm sure he's looking to get younger and cheaper....He will totally overhaul the Dolphins with low cost free agents and draft picks...
Hamlin isn't a FOB Tuna helper.I'd like to retain Hamlin, but I'm not going to give him a Roy type contract. Patrick Watkins have shown me enough to let Hamlin leave if he's expecting out of this world dollars..and I still think Courtney Brown is going to evolve into a real player, at least by his measuables,a highly gifted athlete. And we could always draft DRCromartie, or a Reggie Smith and have him man the free safety position until they're ready to take over at CB...
I would not want Jerry to get in a bidding war to save a really good, yet nearing the end of his career LT like Flo..If Flo doesn't want to retire as a Cowboy, and accept a fair market valued contract, then screw 'em..We go with the youngsters and save boat loads of money.....

maybe...maybe not....but...
We certainly would be stronger at another position that needs more strength...Say we pass signing Flo, and let him go....We go ahead and trade a high 28th or 62nd pick in the draft and obtain Roy Williams-WR Detroit who I can only assume will cost us the same annual salary , about 7 million per season...
Question is , Would we be a stronger Offense with TO and Willims as our starting Wideouts....and Free/McQuistan/ or Bigg Davis at LT ?
I'd have to say yes....in a big way...If Free or McQuistan can come in and play decently, say as good as that Uggha guy in Indy...with maybe a little help from a TE or FB once in awhile...I'd take my chances of becoming that much younger and possibly better overall on offense....all why not elavating out salary cap figure.

Dont use these words in the same sentence
Leonard Davis and Left Tackle---NEVER!!!!
Guard is his natural position, I dont want him anywhere near left tackle.
I agree Deke...
That was just to cover the few who feel Davis could always shift over if in fact Flo leaves...I am dead set against moving Davis....
In fact, if we lose Flo...It would also open up an opportunity to aquire Alan Faneca to play LG, which would boost the effectiveness of either McQ or Free.
by BoyzRback07 on Feb 1, 2008 4:22 PM CST up reply actions
I strongly disagree boyzrback
I don't care how awesome your wideouts are, if Romo is getting blindsided on a consistent basis, then it won't matter.
LT a position that is just as important as any other on offense except for the QB. You just can't put just any guy there and expect production. Flozell is a proven pro bowl player capable of shutting down the league's best pass rushers. I seriously doubt that either McQuistan or Free could do that and Davis certainly can't. He's a pro bowl guard, but very average tackle. He got spun around like a top in Arizona at LT and he would with us as well.
wow...I like your faith..terry
In our O line depth...Say Flo tears a knee ligiment in preseason, and we have to count on Free or McQ to step up and start for us next year...You have no faith in our backups, the same guys that were specifically drafted to take over Flo when this very moment arrived??? geeez...From what I saw last preseason, and from what reports I heard from Grizz during training camp....I sure think Free played sufficient, and I could only imagine he's improved over the last 6 months....add into account we have Hudson Houck ( The same guy that you said made Flozell the player he is today )

I really liked what I saw from Free in TC
I think the guy will progress nicely and could end up being very valuable to the franchise.
I don't have any faith in our O line if it means
they would have to start the entire year. A few games here or there yes, but not the entire season. I think Free will probably end up being a great LT in this league someday, I just don't think he's quite ready yet to take on the league's best pass rushers every week.
i'll go a step further
more teams can win with their backup qb than their back up left tackle.
So what are suppose to do ??
sign FLO to a ten year offer an keep him around
I say if dosen't come cheap then let him go
Free an Mcq will just have to learn on the fly -
and your precious TR won't get hurt that badly - then you be wishing we had Dmac
A RB like McFadden keeps the opp. defense honest. He can take it to the house at any time.
He would take pressure off of Romo, Witten, and the receivers and teams would have to gameplan for both our running/passing game as both could beat teams.
Free looked real good in the preseason games I saw
or we could draft this guy with our 2 pick
OT Chris Williams 6-6 #315
Co-captain of Vanderbilt's football team, Chris Williams simply doesn't allow sacks. His 40 at his size is remarkable
he just plain mean

We are not trading up for Mcfadden
so let me get this straight
Ark,
You think the Cowboys would benefit from having Macfadden? It seemed like a while ago you were luke warm on him and preferred Jones...
D-Mac can cure cancer,
bring peace to the middle east, make Britney sane again, and get the Cowboys to the Super Bowl.
yes they would benefit from having Dmac
A RB like McFadden keeps the opp. defense honest. He can take it to the house at any time.

that means taking pressure off our O line

I don't agree
with overpaying for an aging LT with bad knees a big contract. Free or Mcquistan should be more than capable at starting. I think the money would be better spent in free agency or retaining Hamlin and giving Canty a new contract.

I don't see it happenig with either
Particularly Ham. I think Jerry will keep him at any cost; he's been bitten by poor safeties too often.
If Flo gets a huge offer from someone, however (4 years, 28 mil?) I don't see Jerry ponying up. He knows the value of staying below the salary cap.
i think 4x7
is the best possible price for Flo
i would be shocked to see him sign for less
but wouldn't want to pay much more...
Nothing we can do....
If the Dolphins want to get into a bidding war for Hamlin and/or Flozell there is nothing that we can do. The Dolphins have sufficient cap space to aggressively pursue FA's. If the players want to stay in Dallas for reasonable contracts, they both should know by now that Jerry will offer them a reasonable contract.
The 13-3 Cowboys or the 1-15 Dolphins? I guess we'll find out if these guys like winning football games or stuffing their pockets with greenbacks.
I'm much more worried about Flozell because I think he could command a fairly significant contract on the open market. Using comparables of Willie Anderson and Jonas Jennings, we are probably going to have to offer Flozell at least a 4 year deal in the neighborhood of $25M with about $8-$12 of that guaranteed. Year number four is going to be the key because other teams will be able to structure the deal to be cap friendly if they were part ways with Flo in year #4, but our cap situation might not give us the flexibility to offer a large portion of the signing bonus as a roster bonus.

IMO, there's
going to be a very good market for Flo. I don't think there's ever been a LT of his ability, playing like he played last year, who has hit the FA market. Teams just don't let them get away that easy.
If I were Bill, I'd offer him a big contract that paid him his guaranteed money up front so that after 2 or 3 years he could be cut with minimal cap impact. This is the one position a team should overpay for and the Dolphins have the cap room to do it. Especially since they're probably going to have a young QB behind center. A big name signing would give Bill some cushion with the fans and the mediots down there while he started overhauling the rest of the roster. Then, after a couple of years, after he's brought in a bunch of young guys ready to compete for starting jobs, he can think about letting Flo go.
I also think the Chiefs would be FOOLS if they didn't go after Flo. They saw what happened to their line after Willie Roaf retired. A guy like Flo and maybe a blue chip OG in the draft might just make Larry Johnson look like a good RB again. Instead of looking like Troy Hambrick.

Flo Was Drafted with HH here
I think he made Flo what he is today - why would he go to Maimi when in Dallas at least there's a chance of a SB
by Arkcowboys on Feb 1, 2008 12:18 AM CST reply actions
there is no way ...
flo would leave dallas for miami no shot...and if bill offered him a hugh contract jerry could slap the old franchise tag on him and flo would sign for sure, and hamlin wants to win so he's staying putt...besides i think most of these players have had enough of bill.
