A few questions...
Okay so obviously all these injuries to this football team are highly disappointing, but I have some questions that need answering.
Firstly, what are we doing about a punter? I have heard some people say that Nick Folk can also punt. Does anyone know anything about this? Is he any good as a punter or would we be better off signing a new one?
Secondly, is Tashard Choice going to have a legitimate role in our offense now? Or will we just rely more heavily on Marion Barber to support our run game AND a large amount of check down passes from Brad Johnson? Can Barber handle an even bigger role than he has now?
Thirdly, is Tony Romo's pinky really going to keep him out for over four weeks? I feel like if Brett Favre broke his pinky he would be playing the next week. Are there any chances that he could only miss two games and be back in time for the big crucial division game at the Giants?
And finally, can the coaching staff recover from this three week funk they are in? Will this situation we are in finally get our players motivated?
I would love to hear all your opinions on these issues.

Here are my thoughts
Per the DMN, we are looking at Ottovegio, our camp leg from this year, or Paulescu, our camp leg from last year.
As for Choice, I see him having an increased role, but I expect Marion’s role to increase.
I’m not sure what to think about Tony’s pinky. I heard Mooch on NFLN saying that he can’t believe that Romo will be out the full 4 weeks as he is a player and can’t be kept out of the game that long. While I agree with that, I don’t see him coming back in anything less than 2 weeks. I guess it will just depend on how it affects his ability to grip the ball.
I don’t see anything changing with the coaching staff. I think if Bruce Read was made a sacrificial lamb, maybe that would light a fire under the coaching staff, but I don’t see that happening. I think the players will have to provide most, if not all, of the motivation to get through this slump.

Good points
I keep going back to last year when the cowboys were 5-1 and the giants were 3-2 and fighting injuries and it just seemed like they were done. That team found a way to rally and pull off some wins and I wonder if the coaches will be able to get this team going.
Romo’s injury sucks, but 4 weeks is not a season. McBriar hurts but let’s face it, he’s a punter – we’re going to throw the season away for a kicker? Hurd sucks too but with Austin’s rise and Stanback in the wings, that could be worse.
This team has the talent and needs to pull its collective head out of it arse and get things together. There is no reason we can’t go into the bye week at 6-3 and don’t tell me that 10-6 won’t make the playoffs this year. Who is the dominant team? The skins who just lost to the rams or the giants who are losing to the browns.
This year is wide open and I can only hope and pray that the entire cowboys organization realizes the chance they have to get their shat together.

+1
I said before the season that no one in the NFC East would win more than 11 games, being that we all have to play the AFC North as well as beat up on eachother.
I still believe that.
Now that the real Eli has showed up again, it’s getting really wide open.

I think Tony will really try and make it back for the Giants game.
I guess depending on how we do with Brad the next 2 games will determine if he trys to play in the Giants game.

thats what I was thinking...
Tony Romo is no wimp. He is a playmaker, and after two weeks he will be itching to get back on the field and get this team back on track.
I will be surprised if Romo misses a key game against the Giants.
Maybe its just wishful thinking, with me being a Dallas fan living in New Jersey with tickets to the Cowboys @ Giants game and I was actually hoping for a win.

about a broken pinky...
I am somewhat of an authority on broken fingers, I’ve broken six of mine(both thumbs[within minutes], both pinky’s[at different times], left index, and right ring). Not even Brett Favre could play with a broken pinky, it is too key to grip, and accuracy. My estimation is this, 2 weeks to use without shocking pain, and another week to ten days to get full grip back. If it is in the base joint it could take considerable longer.
It is unreasonable to expect the team to function at 100, heck we have seen better than 70 since the opening day. I’m not making any estimates to the teams chances with Brad until I see what we can do against the Rams. The poet Tom Petty said it best, “The waiting is the hardest part…”
I think Johnson can manage the team, but anything like big comebacks are out of his repertoire. You can bet the house the Rams will play a lot (and I mean LOT) of 8 and even 9 man fronts with a single safety high and dare Brad to go deep. It won’t be pretty, and it will be hard, but it can be done.
Three keys to victory…
1. Kick Bruce Read in the nuts, every morning until the Special Teams is straightened out(either that or fire him out of a cannon).
2. O-Line has to dominate…in all aspects, that’s run AND pass blocking, any more of Flo’s Olay bulldoodie, and we’ll be starting Brooks Bollinger.
3. The Defense is going to HAVE to carry us until Romo returns, this is a tall order for a confused looking bunch.
Well, I gotta go to sleep now. I’ll be dreaming of success, and keeping my vision of a Super Bowl victory STRONG!

+1 on Bruce Read
Jerry could even make a promotion about it – “Enter on dallascowboys.com for your chance to fly to Valley Rance and kick Bruce Read square in the family jewels!”
I’d enter.
