wildcat formation - cowboys style

all the cowboys news is completely depressing...so for fun i was thinking, what if the cowboys were to run a wildcat formation?  who would receive the direct snap, and who would be the the wingback that cuts across the backfield?

crayton is the obvious choice to receive the direct snap, as he's a starter and former quarterback, and i would trust him to run the offense.  but i think he might be a little small to try and run out of the formation.  so what about stanback?  he's a former qb too, and much bigger and faster (although i think crayton is quicker) and can explode through the line.

felix would be perfect for the wingback (as that is what he played at arkansas) but he's out for several weeks.  who would you put in, crayton/stanback, austin, t.o?  what about tashard or even scandrick?

given that the offense is hobbled for a few weeks, do you expect to see us actually try this?

I think Felix when he comes back

and Stanback would be so sick.

Where will you be when the Sixers hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy? Hopefully Liberty Ballers.

They did this with Crayton way back in 2004 against Seattle.

It was on a 2 point conversion try. Crayton tried to run but got stopped. That was a great game. I really thought we had star running back in the making after that night, what a disappointment Julius turned out to be.

Fun thought.

I saw some guy post something about switching to a 4-3…that’s no more nonsense than this. And to me, any distraction is welcomed right now.

My vote for the Cowboys “wildcat” AKA “Wildboys” (hey the formation’s already got a theme song) would be for Stanback to take the snap. I’d put Crayton in the slot so now you’ve got 2 receivers that can throw the ball. For a change up, I’d replace Crayton with someone who actually is fast and quick like Amendola if he gets called up because of Hurd’s injury.

Felix or Barber as the back, TO and Austin out wide and Superman at TE.

Man, that sounds fun…gotta go lab that one up in Madden:)

I don’t see JG actually trying the Wildboys but I’m all for spicing up. Even with our injuries, we have more talent than most teams in the league. But who knows? The Browns did some uncharacteristic things last night and jumped all over the Giants…and to think the Browns secondary got more picks in one game than we have all season!?!?!? (but that’s another thread).

Weird... I was writing this exact diary yesterday

But couldn’t come up with enough stuff to fill the 75 word limit!

I think you are right on that Crayton would take the direct snap. He was listed as our emergency reserve backup-backup QB for a while, when we only had 2 QBs on the roster.

Option to Barber or Felix… could be scary. But one dimensional. But we might have to have some junk plays to use without Romo for a while.

I feel strongly that Dallas needs to run the Wildcat in practice

if, in the least, to prep for teams running it on them. Even the Browns ran it last night on the Giants. It’d just be best to get on that boat, especially with Tony out right now.

The guy I’d really like to see run this would be Stanback. He’s the least (in years) removed from playing QB. He could hand off reverses to TO and Crayton—both could throw passes to each other, Witten, or Brad, or they could hand it off on counters to MB3 and Choice.

By the time Felix gets back, everybody will know their assignments and he can just come in and run with it from college.

That #38 sure should wrap up!
