ESPN: Adam Jones suspended indefinitely; Roy Williams trade rumors flying

Per ESPN, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Adam Jones for at least 4 games, and will evaluate his status after the Cowboys' week 11 game.

In announcing his decision, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Jones' "disturbing pattern of behavior was clearly inconsistent with the conditions I set for your continued participation in the NFL."

Time for the rookies to step up. It was why they were drafted.

Hat tip to Bloomth and CTBoy for their fanposts breaking the news.

In other news ESPN is reporting that the Cowboys are actively vying for Detroit WR Roy Williams. Currently the Cowboys are offering a first round pick, yet the Lions are asking for more. At this point all talk of a trade is mere speculation but anything is possible as we approach the 4 PM (EST) trade deadline. ESPN is reporting that the Lions are hesitant on the deal because they do not have a general manager.

The DMN blog is also reporting about the trade offer, quoting an Adem Schefter report. Pro Football Talk is also reporting the same story.

As much of a homer as I am...

I can’t get mad about this. Obviously he just doesn’t get it or has some mental condition that keeps him from getting it. Either way, this is one risk that didn’t pay off for Jerry…time to move on. Good luck in Canada Pacman ’eh.

by MuchMadden on Oct 14, 2008 2:04 PM CDT reply actions

I'm not mad

But I’m not sure that the incident that occurred deserved an indefinite suspension. It really irks me when I think about the non-punishment delivered to Belicheat after the video taping incident.

Uneffective

in the return game as well as pass defense. How big of a loss can this really be besides losing a player with a unique nickname? Scandrick is lookin good and hopefully Jenkins comes into his own.

by bryangene on Oct 14, 2008 2:10 PM CDT reply actions

Part that bothers me the most

isn’t that he screwed up, rather that Jerry tried to sweep it under the rug and assumed nothing happened like he did in the 90s. Thankfully Goodell stepped in and backed up his threat.

Time to cut Pac lose, get back our draft pick, and end this mess.

I gave the man as much of a chance as anyone this off season, and was defending him left and right. But for now, he just isn’t worth all the destraction and negative media hype. Plus the fact that we basically gave up a 4th round pick for a player for 6 games, is just worthless.

by Zach22 on Oct 14, 2008 2:14 PM CDT reply actions

I agree

He’s simply not worth keeping around now. Cut him, and let Jenkins and Scandrick learn on the job. Should we manage to win a game before the bye week, I think we’ll be in good shape assuming Newman can come back.

Man, when it rains, it pours. I don’t particularly like the Roy Williams talk either.

Is that Austin is included with the 1st rounder offer for Williams…any corroboration on this?

Please

You can’t be serious. That’s a pittance for an established, elite #1 receiver.

by jthig32 on Oct 14, 2008 2:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Its more about depth to me.

I know we have Stanback, butt we have most likely lost Hurd for the season. Austin has shown he can make plays when needed (Or tip the ball to andrickCrayton).

So you lose a receiver, give up a first, and give up another receiver?

by Brandon Worley on Oct 14, 2008 2:29 PM CDT up reply actions

Also

Hasn’t RW had some injury problems the last couple of seasons? If so, depth would be that much more important.

I don't think RW is an established, elite #1

He is a decent #1 or a very good #2. An upgrade, but that is a lot to pay for a pending free agent.

It’s not like getting him will put us in the Super Bowl, not how we’ve been playing anyway. Then sign him FOR MUCH CHEAPER next season. IMO, he’ll have a crappy year and his stock will plummet…

Selfish piece of crap. Got in a fight with his baby sitter. Jenkins its time to step up boy. Newman, earn your money. Henry, stop sucking. As for the rest of the roster, Felix was a luxury for us, MB needs to earn his pay right about now. WRs besides TO suck, need Roy. as for Romo, we kept BJ for a reason, he has to win at least 2 out of 3 if the OL helps a lil.

well...

everyone wondered what would happen when adversity hit…it is definitely here…

i can understand the decision. i don’t agree with it. the conduct policy is to broad and gives goodell too much power. he’s the commissioner not overlord of law and justice. but jones knew what he was getting into. if he can’t follow the rules in this ideal situation than maybe he can’t follow the rules ever.

but despite the fact that we lose pac, we come out the deal with draft picks. so jerry definitely covered his butt. and pac’s contract was reasonable so no big loss there.

by Tuna Helper on Oct 14, 2008 2:29 PM CDT reply actions

Unreal..

the suspension is a load of bull… no police report was filed, and they incident stated, that “he MIGHT have been drinking”.

if Matt Jones can blow coke of his dashboard with enough of it to be legally selling, and not be suspended how can pac be suspended for 4 games? if you are all ready to cut him, thats fine whatever. but the fact is he is a great “talent” and he has been pretty effective in pass coverage lately.

the fact is he shouldn’t have been suspended for 4 games, if at all. it’s bullshit, sorry for the profanity. but seriously think about it

by iCowboy on Oct 14, 2008 2:35 PM CDT reply actions

So which is it?

Are we keeping him becaues of no police report or becaues he’s talented?

Another? Wade Wilson suspended for 4 of 5 weeks for using HGH; not distributing it or giving it to anyone else, but personally using it. Head coac caught blatantly cheating? No suspension.

Here's a comparison

Person #1 has been convicted twice for felonies and gets arrested for Hitting someone with a rock during an argument.

Person #2 gets arrested for armed robbery, yet has no criminal record, before this.

Who gets the harsher sentence?

by Taylor on Oct 14, 2008 2:40 PM CDT up reply actions

If said person has been convicted twice

Then you can’t compare that to Pacman. I don’t think Pacman has been convicted of any felonies.

But, just using your argument above, I am more worried about someone that would prey on an innocent victim with a weapon and rob them than someone that gets hit with a rock in an argument as they may have provoked the other person in some way. One is a crime of passion, the other a crime of planning and forethought.

"So you can’t stiff arm at all? What about the throat?"- Marion "Barbarian" Barber

by DC_fan on Oct 14, 2008 2:43 PM CDT up reply actions

true he was never arrested

but he was suspended several times, which put Jones in the position that any actions he takes will be dealt with much harsher than what others would receive. He may not have liked it but it’s what he agreed upon.

But in my argument above I was going more for the history rather than the crime itself, I should have used the same crime for both.

by Taylor on Oct 14, 2008 2:46 PM CDT up reply actions

I knew where you were trying to go

I would like to see someone compare the history of Chris Henry and Pacman Jones; their crimes, arrests, suspensions, etc. I think this would be the best comparative case. It seems like Henry has had less punishment than Pacman, but I seem to remember he was doing stuff just as bad and also has a history like Pacman. I guess that’s the best way to compare.

"So you can’t stiff arm at all? What about the throat?"- Marion "Barbarian" Barber

by DC_fan on Oct 14, 2008 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm not sure about felonies

But Pacman has copped several pleas already, which are convictions. He probably wouldn’t be free if they were felonies, but it’s not like his record is clean. Not that it takes away from the discussion, just saying.

by grapejoos on Oct 14, 2008 2:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Unfortunately, P. Jones has quite an extensive criminal history compared to M. Jones

And that’s probably what factored into da Commish’s decision.
