Kevin Burnett is the latest injury problem in Dallas

From the DMN blog:

Add LB Kevin Burnett, who plays in nickel and dime situations and leads the team in special teams tackles, to the Cowboys' lengthy injury list.

Burnett is sitting out practice and has a protective boot on his left foot. We'll let you know when we know more about his injury.

What the...? Another injury? I guess we'll have to wait until Wade gives the press conference to know what the extent of the injury is. Bobby Carpenter anyone?

Hat tip to Philosopher for posting in the comments.

wow, if Barbie plays

our defense is in a world of hurt. I really hope the Rams are the Rams of week 1-5.

getting to be a joke...

I love how Wade is on “the hot seat” according to BSPN yet, the majority of our starters are injured.

They've been saying he was lame duck all year

So is he lame duck, or on the hot seat, or what?

ESPN has turned into an absolute joke.

Case in point, Ed “they’re definately not giving up a #1 for RW2” Werder.

It all depends on the outcome

I don’t know about the rest of Cowboy Nation, but I have received more emails from fans of other teams this week than at any other time. Everyone is poo-pooing the RW2 pick up. Everyone is calling Jerry “little Al Davis”. I think that we won’t really know if we overpaid for Roy until January.

Jerry doesn’t get enough credit as a GM. I admit when I heard we went and got Roy I had visions of Joey Galloway doing nothing in a Cowboy uniform – except collecting a check. That said, sometimes Jerry’s moves work out. We overpaid for Deion – but it resulted in a SB win. Snyder overpaid for the older Deion and he skipped away with the Danny’s dough. If Roy allows T.O. to get off then it was the right move for this team. Sadly it all depends on the outcome. The Buc’s over paid for Jon Gruden – but the result was a Bowl win.

Jerry plays Fantasy football – but he’s not stupid. He could have traded up for McFadden – but he didn’t, and we all agree that 28 is the truth. He had a well-graded Mel Kiper draft and waited on a WR when every talking idiot on ESPN said he should go get one. Now that he has, all of the talking idiots are saying we overpaid. Which is it?

We really won’t know until January. If 11 catches the winning score in a playoff game, then suddenly he was worth every penny. That’s the league. We got Zach Thomas for nothing and he has started every game for us a MLB. Not all of Jerry’s moves are garbage.

I am not as concerned about the so-called Roy “draft fleecing” as much as I am the cap hit we will take for him. Word I heard is that Jerry is paying him $45 million over 5 years. That’s $9 mill per year. You know who else makes that? Terrell Eldorado Owens. So far everyone is saying the right things. I read a quote where T.O. said, “I already have a contract in place – why would I be worried about anything else?”. To that I say, “Uh…you also had one in place in Philly”. But I digress.

Roy allows us to get T.O. the ball more, which should help us win more and if we’re sitting at 7-2 by the Washington game then all of this other crap will be long forgotten. It all depends.

At the start of the season all of the MSM idiots were complaining about the fact that we didn’t draft a WR in the 1st round. Now Roy Williams was too expensive? We traded a 1st, which is what it would’ve cost us to draft one last year. And we spent a 3rd, which ensures we didn’t have to wait 2-3 years for production from that 1st round WR. Doesn’t seem so expensive to me.

Pardon my ignorance

But what is MSM. I keep hearing about it.

Around the horn is talking about

Williams being a bust, Jerry has become Al Davis, blah blah, blah. I hope they win the next three games ans shove it up Woody Paige’s air-tight a**.

Yeah Shawn King said yesterday that are only chance at going to the Super Bowl

is the players coming to stay at his house that is close to Raymond James Stadium. He seems to always hate on the Boys as well, thats why I don’t get it when other team’s fans say Espn loves the Cowboys because all they seem to do is find ways to hate the Cowboys.

If he wants to talk smack

We’ll send BIGG to his house to Kimbo Slice him.

how was it fixed?

CBS built up Kimbo to be the face of MMA, when he was merely an “urban legend” if you will. If Kimbo fought in the UFC or Pride even, the heavyweights would beat him just like pink hair did. Kimbo is just a backyard brawler

Maybe it's just a case of Butterbean

Amazing at Tough Man competitions, and looked good fighting nobodies in boxing…but got killed when he fought anyone that you heard of.

You’re right about the ‘just a backyard brawler’ thing.

well, so far RW hasn't lived up

to his draft status as a perennial all-pro that he was supposed to become with the Lions. Everyone is saying here how RW is worth all those picks, if so, then why didn’t anyone else offer that? I think there are a lot of teams worse off at the WR position than the Cowboys.

What I’ve read, heard and actually witnessed when watching the Lions play is that RW doesn’t work hard, doesn’t run good routes, drops too many balls, isn’t that explosive and gets hurt a lot.

To me, those are red flags when giving up so many picks. I do, however, hope I’m wrong and he turns out to be a great player, but I can definitely understand people saying he’s been a bust.

Only Pro Bowler on that pathetic team

I think he has “Bigg Disease” – you look worse and play worse on an uber-crappy team.

Don’t think they haven’t talked to people about his attitude, work ethic, abilities and weaknesses before pulling the trigger. These guys do more than due diligence on the big deals like this, Bigg and Owens.

Like I said, I hope I'm wrong

and turn out to be pleasantly surprised by his play with us, although I doubt anyone will see his true worth until Romo comes back.

All those picks?

I really think the only pick that is of any significance here is the first rounder. We swapped a low 6th for a high 7th, and traded away a low third. In the grand scheme of things the players we would most likely get with those picks won’t make much of a difference to this oganization. At best we would get a Jason Hatcher type player, at worse a James Marten. Now there are always a chance of getting another Witten, but that is a 1 in a 100 type pick, and even getting a Bradie James is pretty unlikely.

People don’t realize how often players beyond the 2nd round don’t pan out. You guys need to sit down and look at past drafts and see how many third rounders actually make it.

by quincyyyyy on Oct 15, 2008 4:27 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

as an example the '05 draft

I considered the ’05 draft to be a pretty good draft and by my count the number of players who made it from the third round are around 6, and most of them are in the top 10 picks of the third round.

See for yourself:

Look at it this way

A good team like Dallas won’t have room for 8 or 9 rooks anyway. Jerry was always planning to make some kind of deal with them.

2 of the best players on our team

and the entire league are 3rd and 4th rd picks (Witten and MB3) so you never know.

If you plan on hitting on another MB3 in the 4th round

or another Witten in the 3rd then you are more of a gambler than Jerry

every draft is a gamble

as is every trade, you really never know what you’re getting until they start playing for your team.

Hey

does anyone know where I can find a link to this week’s Inside the Huddle show…the full version?

Where will you be when the Sixers hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy? Hopefully Liberty Ballers.
