Tony Romo to try and play with broken pinkie
Tony Romo is willing to do his part.
The quarterback informed coaches on Wednesday that he is ready to play Sunday against the St. Louis Rams, a high-ranking Cowboys source told ESPN.com's Matt Mosley.
He suffered a broken pinkie finger on his throwing hand in a 30-24 loss at Arizona on Sunday, and Dallas medical staff said that he will miss a month. The injury did not require surgery.

Where will you be when the Sixers hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy? Hopefully Liberty Ballers.

Yes, but is it worth the risk of losing him for the year?
I’m not so sure…

If the fracture becomes displaced
He’ll have to have pins to set it annd that means about 4-6 weeks

Let BJ give it a go and if all goes to hell then get in there but you would think he could at least sit out the Rams game to be safe.
If Romo further injures himself just to placate the MSM, I will be really worried because that means that BSPN has gotten in his head.

Man
Let him rest this week.. See if he can for Tampa..
After seeing Brad in the last pre-season game I faith he can put up 21-24 points on the STL D.. Our D has to hold.

Yup
Plus I want to see one week without Romo so the rest of the team gets their shat together and stops waiting for him to save the day. If our O-line can’t make holes for a stud like MB3 and our D can’t hold the Rams to 14 points, this team has no hope of doing ANYTHING this year so they may as well pack it in.

Brad is capable of putting a win together. He doesn’t make mistakes.
If I were the Cowboys, Romo wouldn’t play until AT LEAST the Giants game.

I also believe Romo will return for the VaGiants game.

I dunno about this
Give Brad the go ahead and see what he can do..
All it takes is one knock down with Tony breaking his fall on that hand and that pinkie could require surgery. Try a simple experiment and drop both of your hands to the floor while you’re sitting down. See if you can do it without putting pressure on your pinkie. It’s not possible. Now imagine being pushed down by a D lineman and having to break your fall. Maybe instead he tucks and tries to land on his shoulder to break the fall instead.. It’s his throwing shoulder!! Ack!
Worth it? I say only if Brad comes in against the Rams and entirely blows the first half.

it all depends on how bad and where the fracture is
really!!! does anyone know (I have not heard yet) where on the finger it is? Also, what degree it is? Is it a true fracture or a hair line? These things can really make a difference with regard to future injury.
If there is no real threat to making it any worse (like requiring surgury) then suit up buddy and air it out to your new weapon.
This is a man’s sport, their is risk on any play!
I love me some T.O....I ain't skeerd!!!!!

Its broken near the base of his pinky
In other words, the end closer to the palm. I think it isn’t broken all the way through.

Did a little more research...
Its a non-displaced fracture of the 5th metacarpal. So like I said before its towards the base. If he plays he runs the risk of displacing the fracture.

just out of curiosity
how much does a pinkie affect throwing??

Depends on how you throw...
Some qb’s spin the ball off their thumb and index finger. Romo uses mostly wrist flick which apparently would use more pinkie. This is according to Mickey.
by albyman32 on Oct 15, 2008 7:38 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
pinkie has little to no effect on the grip or release of a football...
Tony has smallish hands, so the splint itself may be distruptive, but It actually may help him with his delivery, cuz he’ll have to focus more on use of the thumb, index, and middle fingers to get zip…..I’d rather he sit out 2 weeks though…The first two weeks are crutial for the bonding proccess of factured bones…

Did you catch Trent Dilfer on BSPN explaining why the pinkie is used by some QB's?
It was interesting. He said there are 2 grips commonly used by Pro QB’s. One, like the one you are talking about, would not be affected by pinkie injury. The QB keeps the ball up higher and the grip is different.
The other is the one albyman was quoting from Spags. The QB holds the ball lower and comes around in a circular motion with his arm. At the point furthest back during the arm motion there is a lot of torque placed on the pinkie finger. Then the wrist flick is used to adjust the touch and rotation speed.

I know Tony's tough and all that
but he should back down against the Rams. This is one of the worst teams in the league and he has a broken pinkie! This is an unnecessary risk, if he gets hit one time, it could be the end of the season. And we played him all hurt in a meaningless game? Wade ought to keep him out of the Rams game and I can see Tony playing against the Bucs and Giants. Those games are very important for us to win

everybody lies
da boys are posturing
forcing next opp (Rams) to prepare for BOTH Romo and B. Johnson

I tend to agree with this theory
At least I hope that’s what they’re doing…

if it were a game to decide making the playoffs or something id want him to tough it out
but he can sit this one out…
the preceding post was a great success.
