Philly's Take on RW2
How I wish we played Philly before Week 16 after reading this. I picked up this morning's enquirer to find the following snippets about our latest addition:
"He's a good receiver with the potential to be great who was mostly another first-round disappointment for a Lions franchise..."
I wouldn't call him a bust... not in the most liberal of senses. Without consistency at QB, every receiver suffers.
But here's the thing about the Eagles: If you make an objective list as to why this team is off to a disappointing 3-3 start, it won't include problems at wide receiver.
Actually, they're leading the league in dropped balls.
The article will probably be placed online at some point today, take a look. My point? Living in Philly is hilarious - it's like being Jack Nicholson's character in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".

I live in philly too
prior to the trade the general sentiment was “we better get RW, he’s a beast” or they talked about how if not traded he should be their #1 target in the offseason.
now they are talking like we just traded for JJ Stokes or some stuff.
most def sour grapes

I live in NJ and
the talk around the draft and until a week ago was they wanted Roy Williams. Funny, now that he is with us Roy is the next Freddie Mitchell…..lol
Look up... get up...Don't ever, ever give up!!
It's just all rationalization
They have got to be frustrated right now. Go over to their blog and count the number of posts dedicated to this trade and enjoy the Ph-antasy “Dallas implodes” scenarios they are dreaming up. The word is jealousy my friends.
If Philly is leading the league in dropped passes
then acquiring RW would have only contributed to that stat even more as one of RW’s biggest weaknesses is bad hands.
In Romo we Trust
-1 on the bad hands
He defintely needs to more consistent, but having balls that are on target more often will help..

Do you have official stats?
I am really interested.

Catch Rates
Are tracked by Football Outsiders. That’s how often a pass intended for a receiver is caught by him. Wililams this year as a catch rate of 44 percent, Owens is 48 pct. Last year Williams was 63 pct, and Owens was 57 pct.
That's a good start
But doesn’t show drops. Only accounts for passes thrown to, and catches. A crappy QB throwing uncatchable balls will affect these numbers.
At One Point
I found a website that tracked drops. If memory serves, it was Stats, Inc, but their stats are used by Sports Illustrated, and the SI website doesn’t show the drops. Maybe it was Elias, but I don’t think so.
The problem with tracking drops is that it’s pretty subjective, except in the cases where a receiver blatantly lets the ball goes through his hands. Drawing the line in the other cases gets tough to do, especially is there are environmental reasons (lost ball in sun, wind, freezing rain, etc.).
That may be why Stats no longer tracks them.
so doesn't TO, Crayton, Austin, and just recently Witten....
where’s the point here ?

But ....
if the Eagles got RW2 ….. biggest trade ever. he’d be the best WR in the league!
But since we got him …. he sucks. Typical Eagles hatred.
You want to know why Philly thinks he sucks? It must be this...
In 2 career games against them, Roy’s lines are:
9 catches 135 yards 2 TD
9 catches 204 yards 1 TD
actually..I'd love to have Desean Jackson and Hank Baskett on my team...
