RW2 vs the NFC East
I'm not sure why I care, but this kinda got to me. Looking around at the SBnation blogs of our NFC East brethren, nobody mentioned our new acquisition. Now, I don't want to sound like a stereotypical cowboys fan who wants attention for our team. The part that really got me is that, at least on the giants blog, there was news about Pacman and his new stupid antics.
Do they not post because they are worried, or are they just the type that only revel in bad news for the Cowboys?
Either way, this makes me hope that TO and RW2 torch the secondaries for two scores apiece, one for each that is a 50+ yard bomb.

Check the Philly Blog
There are two fanposts I know of that are all about the trade – with very bitter comments that are a joy to read.
But the Giants and Redskins blog, yeah, I didn’t see much about it.

You're right..
..and they make the following comparison (ajay under the “Absolutely Great” Post):
“Roy Williams: 17 receptions, 232 yards, 1 TD
Hank Baskett: 17 receptions, 245 yards, 2 TDs”
This means that, for this comparison to be credible, he must be saying that McNabb and Kitna are equivalent QB’s.
I love the logic over there at BGN

The Philly fans are criticizing the trade
over at BGN. I really don’t think the Giants or Skins fans really care.

Well
from a loyal blogger on BIGBLUEVIEW, let me say this. We are more concerned with our team after that loss. And personally Im pissed Gonzo is not catching Eli’s passes this year.
We all know Pacman was going to a hot topic simply because of his past. And we were all waiting for the Pacman to implode.
Your acquisition of RW2 is only indicative of Jones seeing this year being the Super Bowl year. You guys have become the Yankees of football. Getting stars in hopes of getting a title, where it isn’t talent but team unity and a strong D that does it.
Quite honestly how many playmakers can you have on one side of the ball? It didn’t make sense for you guys to go out and trade all those picks for a guy who you could have added for no picks in the offseason. Granted JJ has wanted him forever, but watching all the turmoil take place in Valley Ranch, more offense was not the answer.
You guys had the same team that got within 30 yards of the NFC title game last year. Is RW2 going to make that difference? Probably not. Plus acquiring him has to be a blow to guys like Austin Miles out of Monmouth U (I party there all the time, I actually rooted for him).
RW2 will obviously make your O pretty much unstoppable, but how bad were you guys to begin with on O. Let’s see. Your up there on points scored, TD’s, yards ppa, almost 60% on 3rd downs, etc… It wasn’t the O that was the problem. It was the expectations, bad D, and media which has unraveled this team.

Go Jints
and unless the young guys in our secondary take another leap in progression, I can already see Witten T.O. and RW2 undressing my secondary. But we won last year so anything more this year is a plus. We’re not shouting SB or bust in NY/NJ. Have fun sweating out this year with all these expectations.

The Yankees of football?
Not possible with a salary cap in place. :]
by hiafex on Oct 16, 2008 1:56 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
just because
there is a salary cap doesn’t mean your not buying, trading, picking up superstars everywhere. I mean we all know the laundry list of stars on your team. Romo, Witten, T.O., Barber, RW2, that O-line, Ware, Pac, Tank, etc.. they may all be affordable under salary cap regulations but that still doesn’t mean they are not stars and you are not bending backwards to get them.
And I heard they may be doing away w/ the cap when the PA contract is up. Anyone know if that’s true?
Oh and how many of your stars have you guys drafted, just wondering?
by ProudYankee on Oct 16, 2008 7:32 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Let's take a look at your claim now
Let’s just go with the starters on each side of the ball.
Romo-Undrafted rookie free agent
Barber-Drafted
Owens-Free Agent
RW2-Trade
Witten-Drafted
Flozell-Drafted
Koiser-Free Agent
Gurode-Drafted
Davis-Free Agent
Columbo-Free Agent
Columbo was a free agent, but hardly a star. He was a castaway that we hit big on and turned out to be a good player. Koiser, free agent but hardly a star. Davis and T.O. obviously big time star free agent signings. RW2, we gave up draft picks for…I don’t look at a trade the same as free agency. We gave up something to get him.
Now the defense:
Spears-Drafted
Ratliff-Drafted
Canty-Drafted
Ware-Drafted
Thomas-Free Agent
James-Drafted
Ellis-Drafted
Newman-Drafted
Henry-Free Agent
Hamlin-Free Agent
Williams-Drafted
So 8 of our 11 starters were drafted. 2 of the free agents, were once again castaways that nobody else wanted….Hamlin and Thomas. And Henry was a big signing years back.
So more than half of our starters were drafted, 12 out of 22, and actually if you count McBriar and Folk, 14 out of 24. I counted 16 Giants starters out of 24 that were drafted by you guys. 2 more.
The Yankees teams are full of free agents. Anymore, they have very few of the guys they drafted left. That’s not us.
And no, the cap is gone for 2010. The owners will never agree to a contract with no cap. It will be a cap or a strike in 2011.

And the beatuy of this one
Spears, Ratliff, Ware, and Barber were all the same draft class. Talk about hitting a home run. And also Burnett in that class, a very solid contributor.

Ok
Pitchers
Wang———Drafted
Hughes—-Drafted
Joba———-Drafted
Pettite——-Drafted
Moose——-Free Agent

Ramirez—Drafted
Bruney——Drafted
Marte———Drafted
Coke———Trade

Damon—-FA
Melky———Drafted
Abreu———Trade
Molina——-Trade
Nady———-Trade
Ransom——Drafted
Matsui———FA
Christian—-Drafted
Betemit——Trade
Giambi——FA
Gardner—-Drafted
There are more players but these guys saw the most field. Out of 32 players 18 were drafted. That is a remarkable amount. And is a product of the Yanks rebuilding their farm system. Don’t call us out b/c we sign guys like Giambi, Damon, A-Rod, Matsui, and Moose who command approx. 75 mill of the 200+ million dollar payroll. And guys like Jete Mo Posada and Pettite who all were the foundation of our dynasty and draftees. Those guys command about 65 million. Thats 135 million on 9 players. 2 or 3 of which will be leaving us this year.
And a side note on the ‘dynasty’ players, we re-uped Mo, and Posada after letting go of Torre and briefly A-Rod. The Yanks needed to save face and make fans happy so they threw all sorts of stupid cash to the best reliever ever and a great catcher and leader.
Mind you we may shell out the most dough, but getting bang for your buck is something we haven’t done. Moose never was Moose in Bmore, Giambi was a roid head, Damon can’t play centerfield and never was the top of the lineup guy we envisioned him, Matsui was the best signee and he can’t walk on his balky knees.
Soooo in conclusion just cause we sign the “marquee” players doesn’t mean they pan out. Look at A-Rod, guy hits like.190 in the postseason lol. If anything MLB teams should thank us for getting these guys off the market and letting them suck with us than other teams. And we also draft a multitude of players. Come holla at me when we sign CC and Tex lol. Cause chances are we will. (Even though I’d rather them not)

And to think....YOUR 210 million dollar lineup couldn't even make the playoffs....
LMFAO………GO SOX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A true diehard Cowboys fan since 1975.
"If you don’t take him off the field as a coach, he will just about die out there," Jerry Jones said. "That impacted my decision. It’s a Michael Irvin-type work ethic. That’s what we are talking about with Felix Jones."

Actually
it was about 220 million lol. But that’s ok. I can take a shot. Ya know it’s not like they didn’t rifle off 13 or 14 straight postseason apperances. No that never happened.
And if you really are a Sox fan, which I highly doubt, you guys are just as guilty as us when it comes to high payrolls so drop it. And don’t go saying, ‘oh but we made the post-season’ b/c last time I checked your payroll didn’t get you to the playoffs a year after you broke the curse (2005).
Parity is a large part of sports, which is why the G-Men and Steelers can rifle off all those away playoff wins and the Rays and Diamonbacks can contend.

BTW
And you can see where the yankees problems stem from. All those drafted pitchers you have up there. Almost every solid hitter was traded for or signed by giving them loads of money. You need to change petite from drafted, I dont care if you drafted him or not you acquired him through FA from the stros with this current roster.

Don't worry
a conscious effort is being made to rebuild from within. However, every team will need a big time player and if the Yankees are willing to dole out the cash to put a quality product, year in and year out, onto the field who is anyone to say that’s not right?
Shit they pay the the cheap team taxes for the money they spend.

Notice
I love it. He calls us the yankees of football. He thinks the giants are the only team in the world that knows what there doing on draft day and in the front office with free agency. Where is he now that you posted this list?

Relax
Tiger. I was just inquiring on whom you drafted. I knew it was a lot because I could only name a few FA off the top of my head. And the offseason with Pacman, Tank and now RW2, yea it’s a lot of big namers your going after.

What you have to realize is
Draft picks don’t always pan out. Proven talent in Jerrys’ eyes is worth far more at least in the short term than blowing money on unproven talent (at the professional level).

Thanks..
…for the insight. Nice to hear a post with logic and thought from “the enemy.”
I hear you on your opinion about the trade. The only things I would say to combat that are these:
Yes, we needed a CB, but who was on the market?
Getting Roy does seem like a move to get to the Super Bowl this year, but really it is dual purpose. JJ really wants a ring this year, but also, TO is getting old, and we need an upper level wideout for years to come. Roy is only like 26, and now we have him rapped up for 5 years. He is part of our future, but hopefully can make some impact here and now also.

Regarding a CB -
Was Oakland listening to offers for Nnamdi Asomugha? I am the worlds least informed guy on contract stuff so for all I know that might have been impossible for some reason. Anyhow does anyone know?

Signed the franchise tender only
Free agent next year, but they WILL franchise him again. This guy is a superstar. One of the 2-3 best CB in football IMO.

And
He is an awesome guy too off the field in case anyone cares. Just read an article about it, I dont remember where… But ya, seriously, he is a top 3 CB in the NFL easily…

I disagree that we could have gotten him for no picks
I live right outside Detroit. It’s pretty much unanimous in the media up here that he would have been Franchised for at least 1 season.
by mhuff13 on Oct 16, 2008 2:38 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think yes, he would have gotten us the 30 yards.
Hey, are you guys all turning on each other and accusing each other of not being real fans because you are concerned about your team after a loss? I’m just curious if that’s everywhere or just here that you’re not allowed to want your team to improve when they don’t play well.
by Baked Potato Soup on Oct 16, 2008 4:13 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
If that
comment was for me, then honestly we have what we have. We won it last year with a cast of no namers who made names for themselves. And after Mondays debacle yea we all were worried but noone was panicking. Just because you don’t win the games your ‘suppose’ to doesn’t make your team lesser.
And yes we want our D to start looking like some of the better ones. We started nice but as the season has gone on, O’s have been able to expose our blitz packages. And when the 4 lineman we put out alot don’t create pressure it puts more onus on the linebackers and corners. That D that seemed relentless last year through the playoffs doesn’t look the same.

Manning, Burress, Toomer, Strahan just to name a few
Don’t give met his no-namers crap.

Will Roy have gotten us the 30 yards?
Who knows.
But I know one thing for sure. Jacques Reeves is no longer covering Plaxico. The drive before the half was the difference in the game, and it was all on Reeves. Eli and Plax basically played pitch and catch against him.
I’d trust 2 rookies, Jenkins and Scandrick, more than Reeves. They still couldn’t really contain Plax, but they wouldn’t give up such easy plays.
