To be honest, I have to say I am a little disappointed with the sense of hopelessness within this blog, regarding next weeks game with the New York Giants. It is as if everyone has conceeded this contest, and is content with being 5-4 at the break. I can only look at football through the eyes of a player, and I'm not ready to just lay down and take this one. There are plenty of reasons that we can win this game.
1. This team has nothing to lose. There is no expectation of a win, therefore no pressure. Therefore, we can play loose and roll the dice when possible. A couple of bounces and this game gets a makeover.
2. This is a division game. You don't have to worry about our guys coming out flat because there are players on the opposite sideline, whom they truly, madly deeply hate.
3. Playmakers. Yes Felix Jones is hurt, but there are still guys on this offense who can make huge gains on short receptions if we can only manage to get them the ball in space. We dont always have to throw it 50 yards to get a 50 yard completion. T.O. and Roy are two of the best in the business after the catch.
4. The Eli Manning we all know and love could show up at any moment.
Yes, a lot of things will have to go our way. The defense will have to duplicate last week's performance. The D-line is gonna have to get Jacobs going east and west before he can get going down hill. We are gonna have to get constant pressure, continue to cover well, and play solid special teams. We are gonna have to tackle well and cut the penalties in half. The O-line is gonna have to get nasty again. Yes, the quarterback whoever he may be will have to make some plays and take care of the football. But this is all possible.
I dont see a clear cut loss. I see a team with nothing to lose, with a golden opportunity to steal a huge game and shake up the NFC.
Yes, this is a loss on paper, but you gotta play it out. Stranger things have happened and I'm not marking this one down in the L column just yet.
