Brooks Bollinger? No Thanks!
After seeing Brad completey blow for the past 2 weeks we've been hit with all kinds of QB talk. Should we let Brad keep doing what he does? Should we get Bollinger in the starting line-up? Well after reviewing his stats you could make the case that Bollinger may be a slight upgrade over Brad. His mobility for one is quite a bit better. His acuracy can't be any worse, can it? People keep talking about Brads ball security, but frankly I don't see that either. It's a damn miracle we made it out of TB without a turnover.
Yet after I watched this video, there's no way I want Bollinger to be the guy.
I think it's time to find a legitimate back up. Both Brad and Bolinger blow. I know backups aren't a priority but there HAS to be something better. Hell, I think Bartel was a far better option than either of these guys.

Not sure about your point
Watching a guy say his canned responses about being a backup makes you not want him to play? How about watching Brad throw ducks instead of 5 yard passes?
Neither one of these guys should be the future backup but there is no reason not to start Brooks this sunday. Watching Brad play QB is like tying a lit fuse to your nuts and watching it slowly burn – scary and you know its going to end bad.
We have TO and Roy as well as MB3 and tellus – All we need is someone to get the ball into their hands, not 10 feet over their head. If our coaching staff wasn’t so damn stubborn, they would stop this mentality of “we do what we do even if we lose by 50” and try to get a little creative until Romo and some other guys come back. Let Brooks use his wheels and give him a dumbed down playbook of short hits to TO, Tellus and RW2 with a couple of bombs to Miles to keep the D honest.
If I have to watch BJ play again, I’ll either be passed out drunk or have a heart attack by the time the game is over.

I have a theory...
Brad’s been playing possum JUST for this game.
Seriously though, I gotta believe that he’s just shaking off the rust. As for Bollinger, I have no idea what to expect. When is the last time he took gametime snaps?

A wag of the finger
To Cowboys’ management for:
1. Not looking far enough ahead with Moore and…
2. Not considering a late-round pick despite Brad’s age.
Yes, Romo is the Messiah, however, bad luck is also a part of the game.

Any better than Brad or Brooks?

Anyone is better than Brad....i do mean ANYONE....
I would take any arena QB or street FA right now, and i’d have a better QB than Brad…I hate Bollinger, and he’s better than Brad…Quincy Carter is better than Brad…I’m better than Brad….and i’m the same age……seriously…I am so glad i work on sundays now, and missed the Rams game, and only saw about half the Tampa game……but what i saw was the worst QBing performance I have EVER seen…..I’ve been watching pro football for over 30 years, and i have never seen worse QB play…period….Jerry really really blew it by signing Brad…..his worst FA signing in his 20 years of ownership….hands down…..Jerry has nobody to blame but himself for the situation we’re in now….

He still would have to develop. No rookie QB in the 3rd round this year would help us win this year.

I would be willing to use our 2nd-3rd rounder on a quality rookie #3 QB, future #2
There are very few clear cut top 5 pick QB’s available for next years draft….I mean that in a sense, that not too many NFL teams are in need of a franchise caliber QB….maybe you would think KC(Croyle), Chicago (Orton), Detroit (Kitna),San Fran (JT O’Sullivan/Alex Smith) and possibly Minny (T Jackson) are the ONLY teams in dire need of an upgrade at QB….and it’s unlikely that all five of those teams will use their #1 pick on a QB, as some will probably look for a quick fix via trade or FA…
So the likelihood of Dallas having a top notch quality QB available to choose from between picks 48-68 is greatly adhanced, and should be seriously considered. Of course we can wait till the 4th-6th rounds to get a decent, servicable back up…but when the durability factor of QB’s comes into play…do you want just a servicable QB, or one that can come in and win the game ? My personal favorite is Chase Daniels, who reminds me so much of a bigger, stronger, better Doug Flutie, has great vision, touch, toughness, running ability, mobility and feel for the pocket, and can throw the long ball with accuracy..Can probably be had in rounds 3 through 5… and NO, half these QB’s will be career back ups, and won’t be bitching for playing time, or demanding trades, or holding out for huge dollars….so to put a lid on the nay sayers who don’t believe we NEED a career back up, to replace the mockery of QB depth we have now…..Jason Garrett made a pretty good 12 year career out of being a back up QB, and this draft coming up , is loaded with all sorts of Garrett types…
My list of QB’s that should be available in next years draft, that will proabably get drafted, and be on an NFL roster:( Final order far from final)

I agree we should draft a qb
in the mid to late rounds….2nd or 3rd rds is too high. However, whoever you draft isn’t going to help you for a few years so we still need a serviceable veteran qb who has experience.

talent wise- QB position far outweighs any LB, OL, DL, S position available to us in rounds 2 or 3...
meaning there will be a better QB available to us in round 2 than any other position of need we can possibly select….
Would you rather have a top rated QB in round 2, or a LB , or OL that is graded to be a 3rd or 4th round talent ? You use your grading charts, and weigh that against the positions available to us….IF there isn’t some stud O Lineman, who slipped from his late first/early second grade, why would i just select whatevers available ? ummmm.. Rodgers/ Petterman anyone ?? Or the fact that this is a poor LB corp, would you select a LB in the second round, even though he grades out to a 3rd or 4th rounder …I sure hope not…Carpenter anyone ?
This team is so stacked that even if we had a selection in the 1st round next year, that player wouldn’t even start (unless it’s Will Moore SS-Missouri or OG-Duke Robinson-Okla) 2 players i highly doubt will be available in the late first round, but would be my prime targets going into the draft.
We draft BEST AVAILABLE PLAYER, regardless of position, based on GRADING SYSTEM …………MEANING QB as well….I am not saying we should or will draft a QB in round 2….but if a 1st round graded QB is available in the late second…Jerry would be a fool NOT to select him…..similiar to what Miami did with Henne, and NE did with O,Connell…..two teams who surely had more pressing needs to take care of. If we wait till the later rounds to select a QB, your going to get exactly what you drafted….a 6th round QB talent., who’s probably no better than the 7th round or UDFA QB’s available…….were not looking for a future #3 QB body to hold a clipboard, we NEED a bonafide potential Starter at QB…..A Kevin Kolb, A Matt Schaub, A Trent Edwards, A Drew Brees…….That’s what quality teams, that look ahead, evaluate, and select by grade, properly do……

Everyone Forgets
Brad was signed to give a veteran voice in Romo’s ear… He was supposed to help Romo eliminate his BAD PLAY PERCENTAGE, which is the worse of all starting QBs… he hasn’t, and now we need him to play meaningful snaps.
Very bad general management…. the thing is, ALL of us fans knew he was washed up when we signed him before last year. Why didn’t the Cowboys?

As Terry had pointed out,(and i have no knowledge of the actual transaction) this was a Jason Garrett decision, and as we’ve seen, his decision making has been less than desired.
I would bet the house that this is Brad’s last year, and that IF we drafted a QB in the top 4 rounds of next years draft, he’d replace Bollinger as our #2 QB by the end of training camp.

I was saying that we should have kept Bartel
Rather than wasting our time on Bollinger. For the most part I think Bartel=Bollinger, but I see more upside in Bartel. Plus, he already knew our system and had a rapport with the guys on the team. I still don’t understand the point of bringing in Bollinger when we could have kept Bartel on the practice squad for less money and freed up another spot on the 53 man roster. Granted, I haven’t seen a lot from Bollinger, but I remember seeing him start some games for Minnesota a year or two ago, and my take was that he sucks.

One thing I do like about Bollinger is his ability to roll out and pass effectively
B. Johnson has the foot-speed of Bledsoe. Anyone care to watch a “sprint” between those two lead feet?
One thing to consider — even though Brad didn’t turn the ball over (THANK GOD) against TB — is that #14 has turned the ball over a lot in his last two visits to the Meadowlands as a member of the Minnesota Vikings.
The last time he started for the Vikes — on a road game against the G-Men — the Vikes D won the game. I believe Darren Sharper returned like two INTs for touchdowns, and the Purple People Eaters also may have had a fumble return for a TD. It was before they had Adrien Peterson.
How do I know?
I actually watched the game and was surprised at the outcome. It was one of those games that Bad Eli lost the game for NYG more than BJ winning the game for Minny.

Aikman weighs in on Brad v Brooks debate
Troy Aikman:
“Brad Johnson. It seems like a real stretch to think that Brooks Bollinger, after 10 career starts in six seasons and not having joined the Cowboys until September 8th, would be the best candidate to give the Cowboys a chance to win on Sunday against the defending World Champions.
Better mobility appears to be the primary argument on behalf of Brooks. I appreciate the fact that the game has changed in the eight years since I retired but I feel certain that there is more to playing QB in the NFL than escaping a pass rush.”
And you gotta love this quote, I’m guessing it could be Mike Greensburg from Mike and Mike, ESPN Radio since he’s a self proclaimed Jets fan.
Network TV type who is a longtime Jets season-ticket holder who has actually seen Bollinger start nine games for his beloved team.:
“Brooks Bollinger was probably the sorriest excuse for a quarterback the Jets have ever allowed to play in the Meadowlands this side of Rick Mirer.”

Aikman’s right. Plus, this Oline shouldn’t have to have a mobile QB back there to prevent sacks.
If Dallas played Brooks, that would just be plain stupid. Now is the time to play smart and Brad is the best chance for managing this game. Nuff said.
