Has Tony Romo lost his Swagger?

Romo has turned the ball over atleast once in the last 8 games.  Seven Turnovers in the first 5 weeks. Some of these turnovers have been very crucial or thrown in the red zone.  Things just don't look like they're clicking as they should on the field.  Crayton's numbers have declined as well as Owens.  He seems to force bad throws and make poor decisions. He just does not seem very confident anymore.  He can be seen sitting on the bench with his helmet still on (a la Ricky Williams).  He just doesn't seem to have that swagger that we have grown to love about him.    Sure the touchdowns and yards look good, but the turnovers are and will be costly.

I don't know that he's lost it...

But for the entire second half he looked distraught. In pregame warmups he was laughing, smiling, jovial Tony. In the second half, he walked on and off the field with his head down, emotionless. Strange, to say the least. If I didn’t know any better, I’d have thought Ocho-Cinco had his kid and dog held hostage. (Like that movie "Bingo"). Let’s see how he responds next week – we’re going to need a big day from our secondary and from our passing game.

Yes

He isn’t mentally tough and when the game turns the wrong way, he starts to get down on himself up like a fat high school girl with acne.

"Well, we didn't block real good but we made up for it by not tackling."

actually you couldn't be more wrong

Romo is probably the most mentally tough QB I’ve ever seen the way he can forget about mistakes like they never happened. The Bills game last season was a perfect example of his mental toughness and fortitude., its actually pretty amazing.

This kid has mental toughness in spades and never, ever gets down on himself, probably one of his greatest assets.

I'm starting to get worried

Tony didn’t look too confident yesterday. I’m honestly doubting that he’s lost it, but I really hope he shows it more in coming weeks. He really looked down yesterday…

by mhuff13 on Oct 6, 2008 10:05 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I disagree

I don’t think he looked down, just frustrated which is natural. One thing about Romo is that he’ll never lose his confidence, there should be no worries about that.

Yea maybe it was frustrated

But to me frustrated is more of a pissed off look. Romo at times was on the sidelines looking down. He’ll be fine when January rolls around and we’re 13-3 or 12-4 and getting a first round bye.

by mhuff13 on Oct 6, 2008 10:43 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

How he was

on the sideline really worries me. He seemed to have lost confidence during the game, but he was able to pick himself up. He just didn’t look like the Romo we’re used to seeing.

by bryangene on Oct 6, 2008 10:48 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I dunno, I think he just got pissed off

Basically from the time he threw the pick until that touchdown to crayton he looked more pissed off than anything. I think thats just how he looks when hes mad; and he was just focusing on getting locked in during that stretch.

If you just look at the numbers, you would think Tony Romo had another special Sunday afternoon – three touchdowns, one interception in just 23 attempts, a game-clinching TD pass with 1:52 to play.

But if you watched Romo perform in the Cowboys’ 31-22 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, you would know that Dallas won in spite of having the NFC East’s fourth-best quarterback at the controls.

That’s what Romo has been this season. Washington’s Jason Campbell is on an interception-free roll. Philadelphia’s Donovan McNabb is playing healthy for a change. Eli Manning’s confidence obviously is soaring after his team’s Super Bowl run.

I disagree

But, we are in a great division(best in the nfl), and the NFC is the best conference.

I can see how you can argue it though.. Oh well..

I do think Drew Brees is playing better then Romo.. Cutler is not..

If I had to Rank it..

1. Tom Brady
2.Peyton Manning- still hasn’t healed
3. Drew Brees
4. Tony Romo
5. Eli Manning

Rank your QBs

based on this year alone and not the past. Things may look a little different.

Romo is playing as well as any QB in the league

his numbers and the team’s record proves it.

Romo is playing scared and has no confidence. This team is too soft, lacks discipline, and the coaching is terrible. Felix Jones, Witten, Pacman, Keith Davis, Hudson Houck, and the Offensive line seem to be the only bright spots so far this year. Until they seriously start pressuring the quarterback there will be no 6th Super Bowl win.

Stepping back

Romo has 100.5 passer rating. 11 TD’s 5 In’ts and we are 4-1.. I think if someone told you before the season started we would be 4-1, I think you would take it..

Romo looked better Peyton yesterday.. Quit over analyzing it, he isn’t perfect, but he is getting the job done. I think he will continue to get better..

I agree

I think Romo is still as confident as ever and is making great plays to win games. Fans want perfection which will never happen.

Its funny that they complain about 5 INTs this season, but QBs like Brees, Manning and Rothlisberger have 3 or 4 as well.

Fans around here act like he’s throwing 2 or 3 picks a game.

He's throwing picks

on crucial drives that shifts momentum to other team. When we’re in the red zone I get worried. These aren’t passes tipped for an interception this is throwing the ball when there are three defenders on a receiver or nobody in that direction. Along with the interceptions he’s fumbling the ball.

by bryangene on Oct 6, 2008 1:23 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

so what?

He hasn’t thrown one INT that has cost us the game yet, so as far as I’m concerned those INTs are no different than any other INT thrown by other QBs in this league who are supposedly really good.

He hasn’t thrown one INT that has cost us the game yet,

Did you forget about the Redskins game? His INT was the difference between a 26-24 loss to a 24-23 win.

Int's

link

Every QB in the top 7 in TD’s has at least 4 int’s.. You throw the ball that much, you will throw an Int..

we shouldn't be throwing the ball as much...

there in lies the problem….IF can ever get his crap together, we would be rushing the ball 35-40 times EVERY GAME…..2 TE sets, and run the damn ball……You run to set up the pass….This team is not built to be a pass first team…ONE legit WR, ONE great TE…..If we pass more than 30 times a game, It is a poorly designed game plan, OR we’re losing the game…..Once Garrett learns this philosophy, we’ll become a better offense, a better team………Romo has NOT been on his game for quite some time now.I can’t figure out why or how he’s been struggling, but he has to pick it up. Contrary to some on here who think he hasn’t lost confidence and is playing well, obviously aren’t watching him play objectively…He seems unfocused, his accurcy is off, lost his touch, and is pressing to be perfect…He needs to run when reads aren’t there, He needs to roll out and improvise when needed….I actually think his “happy feet” were an asset to him, as it kept him unpredictable and hard to read. He appears to be concentrating too much on staying firm in the pocket (alas Tom Brady), when in fact the center of his pocket seems to collapse way to early and often (O Line to blame)….The few throws he’s actually made that impressed me, ALL were while on the move either running forward, or side stepping, or rolling out. THAT is the Tony Romo we all know and love………He is NOT on his game….I just wish he’d snap out of whatever funk he’s got going on…

A true diehard Cowboys fan since 1975.

"If you don’t take him off the field as a coach, he will just about die out there," Jerry Jones said. "That impacted my decision. It’s a Michael Irvin-type work ethic. That’s what we are talking about with Felix Jones."

that INT didn't cost us the game

our poor defensive showing cost us that game.

8 straight games

in which Romo has an INT. The longest streak in the league. The part that bothers me the most is it came when the game was still in doubt

he got to have better ball security

yesterday he turnovers gave Cinn 6 points – could have been 14 points

hm if my math is right we would have lost the game

because we now how stellar our offense looked yesterday

He has thrown an INT

in 24 of the last 28 games. Pretty interesting stat line.

yep

He is more Favre then Montana..

I think he can reduce is int’s by spreading the ball around.. That is the next step for Romo, not forcing it to TO and Witten..

here is how Jerry Jones answered this questioned
Owner Jones went as far as to praise his quarterback for his determination in battling the Bengals to the end.

“When he came off the field [after the touchdown pass to Terrell Owens], he had a look in his eyes,” Jones said. “I thought I was looking at Troy Aikman.”

Does that sound like he’s losing his swagger to you? I think not.

He has, but it's not his doing

they tried to change him from a Favre type QB to a pocket passer, that is not his game, if they would let him alone to do it his way, he would be fine.
